[STOCK][OREO] Upgrade to Official Stock Oreo 8.1.0 - Moto G5 ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, & Other Develop

DISCLAIMER:
I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed.
YOU are choosing to make these modifications,
and if you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
and I am also not responsible for anything happens as a result of flashing these files.
Finally someone captured the Oreo OTA and I'm gonna show you how you can install it and be on Oreo 8.1.0 July Security Patch.
First, you need to be on stock NPPS25.137-93-2-5 , fully untouched, no root, no custom recovery, etc.
Warning: for some reason, at least for me, IMEI/signal were gone after installing Nougat through fastboot, but it was back after updating to Oreo, do this at your own risk.
If you are not, then you can download it from here and flash through ADB with this commands:

OREO OTA
Now, how do I install this?
Method 1 - ADB Sideload
Boot your phone to recovery mode by powering it off, then press power + volume down until you go to bootloader, now go down with volume down to recovery and enter with power. Now you will see a message "no commands", maintain power button pressed and then press volume up button, if you entered to recovery now you are ready.
Connect your phone to your PC
Select "Apply update from ADB"
On your PC run
adb sideload <path to ZIP file>
Method 2 - SD card
Put the ZIP on your phone's SD card while it is in Android
Boot your phone to recovery mode by powering it off, then press power + volume down until you go to bootloader, now go down with volume down to recovery and enter with power. Now you will see a message "no commands", maintain power button pressed and then press volume up button, if you entered to recovery now you are ready.
Select "Apply update from SD card"
Navigate to where you put the ZIP and select it
Update takes some time, for me was like 30 min, be patient.
Huge thanks to:
@tfwboredom for his thread that helped me to go through every step.
@alanmax_tech for uploading the Oreo 8.1 OTA!
If I miss someone please let me know.

No - never Flash a stock ota in a custom recovery
You need stock firmware totally unmodified as explained in first post - if you don't have nougat stock rom firmware then flash it
Then flash ota via adb sideload or stock recovery (select recovery from bootloader mode then on the android screen hold Vol up & press power button)

Fedray, you'r on fire.. it will be great if u make twrp flashable zip

Will be software channel changed? My phone is (was on stock ROM) reteu. Can I flash this after locking bootloader and flashing stock Nougat with commands above?

@Fedray Can you make a twrp flashable version, please?

Thanks it's working & I guess this is the easiest way to restore IMEI & 4g

I am on NPPS25.137-93-12. Will this method work for me? Also I am on amzin software channel.

Fedray, the hero we nerd! Thank you Very much!

for those who got stuck in recovery mode , No Command Screen - follow,
1. With the phone powered off, press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power button at the same time until the device turns on.
2. Press the Volume Down button to highlight "Recovery mode"
3. Press the Power button to restart into Recovery mode.
4. You'll see an image of an Android robot with a red exclamation mark.
5. While holding down the Power button, press the Volume Up button.
6. Boom ! you are now in recovery mode , select adb or sd card method.
Edit:It Took 42 mins for the upgrade, so pls be patient
Edit2: speaker sounds terrible. 4g and volte are back. Battery life has increased a lot

Do I need to wipe anything before reverting to NPPS25.137-93-2-5, or do I just flash it over adb and conttinue the process?
And do I need to unlock bootloader and stuff in order to install Nougat?
Thank you!

Everything works perfectly, thank you very much!!
So I tested it, the software is really good, a lot of great additions. But be careful: The speakers sounds terrible now, it will be fixed on the final update, I guess

Updated steps for entering to recovery.
I have no idea about amzin users.
The only requirement I know that is needed is to be on NPPS25.137-93-2-5 stock, then you can update to Oreo. If you are not, find a way to do it, my way was to flash stock NPPS25.137-93-2-5.

Before I download 2GB on a 2MBPS connection, is Oreo 64bit or 32bit?

You unlock your bootloader?
if no, apply the steps in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2753110
If not work, go back to stock 4.4.4, not 4.4.2 and repeat the process to unlock bootloader and flash twrp and cm11 again.

Stock emui recovery image lost after twrp!!! Fail to get EMUI recovery to life

Hi all,
Im using honor 7 plkl01 5.0.2.
I just install twrp and my stock recovery image is gone and i wish to get it back. So i flashed the b130 stock recovery.img from TWRP.
But it ends up with error 11 (recovery) and error 2(load).
Is there any way i can get my stock emui recovery back to life so that i can update my firmware locally?
Ps, i tried adb to flash but ends up write recovery error and command not allowed. my phone is unlocked by the way.
fastboot devices
[should reply with a device]
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
[with recovery.img in the same folder as adb]
You should try starting with B100 files.
Which rom are you using? Open Multi Tool and flash your currrent rom's stock recovery by following instructions. It's so simple.

Hi,
And yes it's correct, but i help a little more, to get the recovery of B100 download the B100 firmware, then download HuaweiUpdateExtractor to extract the recovery.img, then you've said all ^^
Put the .IMG in the same folder with adb... Flash, it should work, then maybe a hardreset
Good luck
Edit 1 : By the way, i prefer flash the recovery manually

You can't flash a recovery if you are booted into recovery, it's like pinning down a person and asking him to get up.
Okay so to flash a recovery you must be in bootloader mode, to boot into bootloader mode you have to first switch off your device then press Vol DOWN+Power Button once booted into bootloader mode, fire this command to flash recovery:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
The recovery.img file should be in the same folder from where you are executing the command.

[Guide] How to root Moto G4 with Magisk on stock Nougat

*Download all necessary files*
Magisk v15.0 or newest available
Download ElementalX kernel @ elementalx.org
Download latest Magisk Manager from official xda thread
Download TWRP for Moto G4 (Athene)
from twrp.me
Unlock bootloader (Go to Motorola's official site)
Check Unknown Sources in Android settings under security tab.
Download and install ADB & Fastboot on your PC
Boot into fastboot by holding down vol down and power.
Once you see Android robot with text at the bottom, on your computer in cmd type "fastboot boot TWRP image path" ex: fastboot boot D:/TWRPimages/twrp.athene.img
Once phone boots to TWRP, TWRP will ask to make modifications to system. Keep read only. (Note: if is asks to install, always say no.) Next go to backup, and make backup. (Just backup what is selected by default: system, data, and most importantly, boot.img) Note: make sure to tell it to backup to SD, and make sure the SD card is formatted as portable, not adoptable. Note: you might need mount the card under Mount tab first before being able to select it.
Next, go to mount, and uncheck "keep system read only", and swipe to allow modifications. Go to install, and flash ElementalX, and set it up in the following screen. As we already have the turbopower charger, you don't need to enable USB fast charging.
Wipe dalvik cache, and flash Magisk. Then, wipe dalvik again, and power off.
Boot into Android to make sure everything works. Install Magisk app if it didn't appear in your apps drawer from the .apk you downloaded earlier.
Hope this helps! Good luck!
Note: If you would like to flash TWRP instead, use "fastboot flash recovery TWRP.img" instead of fastboot boot.
Thank you for this tutorial! Is it required to install the ElementalX kernel?

It appears to be. I tried it without ElementalX first and got to the point of installing Magisk then rebooting before my G4 went to brick with the flashing light. Same behavior occurred when installed SuperSU. After installing ElementalX everything worked fine.
To supplement this guide, here are a few more links and notes of what I did.
Links

After running commands, restart bootloader w/o rebooting
Go into recovery w/o rebooting
Reboot
After booting into the OS, turn on Developer Mode (tap About / Build Number 8 times)
Go to Developer Options and turn on OEM unlocking and USB debugging
Copy Magisk and ElementX kernel to / using Android File Transfer (if AFT doesn't connect select USB config, change to charging then back to MTP to enable file transfer)
Reboot into Recovery, then Install Magisk and ElementX from TWRP
Performed on an G4 XT-1625, resulted was a rooted Nougat.
@Sanras, I followed your instructions and they went great on a republic wireless xt1625, thank you! But your post just says to boot into twrp, which means if I ever want to use twrp I have to connect my computer. Is there a special way to flash twrp instead of just booting to it? Because I tried flashing twrp but the phone wouldn't boot afterward. So I had to flash the stock rom and redo everything. Let me know and thanks!

You should be able to flash TWRP. That's actually the most used method. I simply recommended booting and not flashing because it is easier to revert to stock for an update. However, you should be able to flash TWRP if you want with "fastboot flash recovery D:/TWRPimages/twrp.athene.img"
(Replace last part with image path on your computer)
Thanks Sanras,
Great guide, worked for me with no problems.
Anyone know how to approach security updates after rooting via this method?
Currently on Dec17 looking to update to Apr18 security patch just don't want to brick device.
Thanks in advance. :good:
Thanks. Sanras.
I got my phone bricked after restore my stock rom and try to install magisk to it. This solved my case also.
I just have to pay attention that just installing the kernel after try the magisk is not enough. Like you said:
* Install ElementalX kernel; wipe caches
* then install Magisk (again), and wipe caches again

Sure. Instead of making a backup to the card, backup to internal storage. Then, before doing anything else, on your pc copy the files from the newly created TWRP folder on your internal storage. These are your backups. You can then proceed with the rest of the steps. Honestly, the backup isn't even necessary, it's just good to have in case something goes wrong.
Hi
I know it's a bit old now, but I'm unable to root my Nougat XT1641
I already have the whole stuff :
- BL unlocked ;
- TWRP installed ;
- all backups done.
But everytime I try to flash ElementalX/Magisk, it fails and ends in a bootloop.
Can someone have an advice to help me ?
Well, I used this : https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html#patching-images
Patching my boot.img did the trick !

Moto G5S Plus - TWRP Recovery Boot Loop

Hey everyone, I just flashed my Moto G5S with a custom ROM (8.1 Pixel Experience).
Everytime I start it, it just goes into TWRP recovery mode. If I hold the Power+Volume buttons, and then select "Start", then it will boot into the Android OS. But if I leave it alone, then it just boots into TWRP Recovery mode.
How do I resolve this? it sounds like the boot order is not correct... but I don't know how to fix this.
EDIT: I have tried running the commands below in TWRP Terminal. They did not help
dd if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/fota of=/sdcard/fota-backup.img
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/fota
Thank you all so much.
Same problem
I'm having exactly the same problem.
I've tried every single thing I can think of so far, including reverting everything back to stock.
Even when I revert the recovery img back to stock, it still tries to boot into recovery and just has a screen with the android logo and one word: "error".
I think that we need the moto G5 plus equivalent of "blank flash". EDIT: I'm not allowed to post links, so replace DOT with . here: cloudDOTEvache-androidDOTcom/Moto/potter/blankflash/
I'll try flashing this and see if it works.
Solved!!
I was finally able to solved this with the following steps:
Download the latest stock rom and firmware. There are lots of links around (sorry, I still can't post links). I used the Feb 2018 version.
Extract the zip file to the same places as fastboot. Boot into the bootloader.
1: Check your device is connected in fastboot mode
Code:
fastboot devices
If your device is listed then proceed.
2. flash bootloader
Code:
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
This might be enough - I didn't test it but you could try booting back into twrp and reinstalling your custom ROM here.
2. flash stock ROM ( and everything else)
I got a couple of error messages about signing with bad keys here, just ignore them.
Code:
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash dsp adspso.bin
fastboot flash oem oem.img
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.3
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.4
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.5
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.6
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.7
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase customize
fastboot erase clogo
4: Optional: relock bootloader
Code:
fastboot oem lock
5: Reboot and rejoice! (hopefully)
Code:
fastboot reboot
6: Reflash TWRP and then sideload Magisk for root
Reboot back into bootloader.
Download lastest TWRP for Moto G5S plus. Mine is called twrp-sanders-r16.im
g:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-sanders-r16.img
Get the latest Magisk from their website. Mine is v16.0.
In TWRP go to advanced -> sideload. Then:
Code:
adb sideload Magisk-v16.0.zip[CODE]
And you are done! Good luck :D
Thank you. I will give this a shot when I have a moment. At least I can still use my phone and it's not a brick. I'll come back with an update!
Success!
The previous suggestion worked... thank you so much!
I don't want erase my user data... I'm good with pixel experience rom.. no major bugs.
Help with twrp bootloop.. I use twrp r20 for Sanders unofficial
Hi,
I got the same issue. Can load fine with Start from Bootloader, but after next Restart, it's stuck on TWRP bootloop again.
I installed Pixel Experience, TWRP 3.2.1 r20 and Magisk 17.1
I used fastboot to load each file as you suggested, but still don't work.
Any idea where it might be wrong?
Thanks!
Fix bootloop in twrp MOTO G5 PLUS, works too in G5 s Plus

[FIXED] So I bricked Mate 10 lite

Hi,
Here is a long story of bricking my device, I wanted to downgrade my device from Oreo to Nougat, and somehow I installed wrong software, mine is RNE-L21 and after successful downgrade with this method:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3vqb8hPZIQ
version of software I installed: RNE-L21C461B153CUSTC461D001
my device was NEO-something, in settings it showed 3GB of RAM instead of 4GB, screen resolutution 1280x720 instead of fullHD and 32GB of internal memory instead of 64, so I wanted to change that.
This time I downloaded (not so sure about this now) proper version of firmware: RNE-L21C432B135CUSTC432D001, and used another method because previous method didnt work, link:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76503686&postcount=46
the HuRUpdater scrpit worked fine, I booted up the device and nothing was changed, so I was like, well, ok then.
but then I noticed that my bootloader was locked, so I wanted to unlock it, and after typing the *fastboot oem unlock code* and selecting yes on my device, It rebooted and just stuck at the "Powered by andriod" logo.
I was trying to enter TWRP but id doesnt work, its stuck at the loading screen, I was unable to enter fastboot, but now I figured out that when I discharge it, I'm able to enter fastboot.
So now I'm stuck, I don't know what should I do.
I saw a guide for flashing .img files from UPDATE.APP, but that guide was for Oreo, and I've got diffrent .img files inside my Nougat UPDATE.APP so I don't want to risk:

you should format by using fastboot. First download your stock ROM and extract with Huawei Firmware Extracter. Select UPDATE.APP and extract following files:
erecovery_kernel.img
erecovery_ramdisk.img
erecovery_vbmeta.img
cust.img
erecovery_vendor.img
kernel.img
ramdisk.img
recovery_vbmeta.img
recovery_vendor.img
system.img
Reboot your device in to fastboot mode (recovery mode) and flash those files one by one:
fastboot flash erecovery_kernel erecovery_kernel.img
...
fastboot flash system system.img
//
Erase your userdata space:
fastboot -w
//reboot
fastboot reboot
Now go to your stock recovery and do factory reset, wide cache.
Now your device back to stock OREO

HOW I FIXED:
I downloaded this EMUI 5 Nougat, Thanks to bozka1:
https://androidhost.ru/5SZ
I extracted UPDATE.APP file using Huawei Update Extractor.
I was trying to flash everything via fastboot: BOOT.img, RECOVERY.img, RECOVERY2.img, CUST.img, SYSTEM.img but nothing helped me.
I found out what you can flash via fastboot here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/general/huawei-fastboot-commands-t3850123
There was no hope for me, so I tried to flash USERDATA.img
fastboot flash userdata USERDATA.img
Click to collapse
And then cmd promped something unusual:
target reported max download size of 471859200 bytes
sending 'userdata' (24576 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.646s]
writing 'userdata'...
(bootloader) success to erase cryypt info in oeminfo
OKAY [ 1.401s]
finished. total time: 2.049s
Click to collapse
Then I proceeded to flash: BOOT.img, RECOVERY.img, RECOVERY2.img and CACHE.img
I didn't flash SYSTEM.img because I flashed it before like 1500 times.
My phone didn't work yet so I used the DLOAD method because RECOVERY finally worked, so I shut down the device and used three buttons combo:
First holding Volume Up, Volume Down and then pressing Power Button.
There is a documentation in the firmware I downloaded, SDcard must be in exFAT format.
Thank You bozka1.

So I'll have to wait a little before I'll download Service ROM, my internet connection isn't the greatest, but I flashed Your TWRP and unfortunately it doesn't work;
If I hold the Power button and Volume Up - the same story as before, I see the loading TWRP screen and nothing happends,
If I let the device to boot up and then press only the Volume Up button - it says "Your device is booting up" and nothing happens.
By the way, what can happen when I'll use "fastboot flash recovery something.img" instead of recovery2?
EDIT:
I did some testing and Your TWRP doesn't boot at all on my device, I flashed another one, Catuva21 3.1.1 Nougat, and that is the one that I had before - it is booting but never loads.

TWRP will automatically overwrite Stock recovery, it's impossible to flash something from dload without Stock recovery .
Using command "recovery2" you will install TWRP over eRecovery .
Try flash Service ROM from SD card without TWRP & oeminfo flashing, but Im not sure... your system is heavily damaged and incomplete .

So the phone would boot up the TWRP without pressing anything? Damn, I might have done that typo error... Do You know if I can restore the stock recovery from the UPDATE.APP file? I mean flash it

Yeah, I've done it already, unfortunately nothing changed. How about BOOT.img? Can this influence something?
EDIT:
I also wonder about just following the steps in my first post, I've got UPDATE.APP for Oreo, but I don't know if it will only make it worse.

Do I have to install oeminfo to be able to use the "three buttons combo"? Because I tried it today and it doesn't work, phone is just stuck at "Your device is booting.." screen, guess I'm out of luck

Alright, so did it just happened randomly or did you tried to do something with your phone? Did you unlocked bootloader or flashed custom recovery etc? You need to explain what happened, that's quite important if you want someone to help you.
