Xperia z3 tablet compact cant boot into recovery - Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

Hi,
I'm quite new to the world of custom roms and I would appreciate some help to get my z3 tablet working again. I wanted to install this ROM as my Z3 was still running on Lollipop with no update in sight.
I managed to unlock the bootloader following the instructions from Sony's homepage and I was able to flash TWRP using the version provided in the thread linked above. Unfortunately now I can neither boot into recovery nor do anything else with the tablet except start the fastboot mode (solid blue light after holding power up and connecting the power cable).
Is there any whay to start TWRP? Did I use the wrong image? I'm on Windows 7 64-bit. Thank you for your help!

I used this solution to get out of the very same situation on my SGP611.

If your tablet is soft bricked, stuck at boot, restart display SONY and keep restarting you can do the bellow steps, but after that you will need to root and install TWRP again.
To turn off your tablet which is keep restarting, press and hold POWER and VOLUME UP until the tablet vibrates 3 times and turns off.
On your PC open Sony Xperia Companion, click Software repair, check My device cannot be detected or started, Next, chose Xperia phone or tablet, Next, check I know my Google credentials, wait until instruction are displayed how to connect to your PC.
Make sure your tablet is turned off, press and VOLUME DOWN while connecting the USB cable to PC, when the program starts the next step you can release the VOLUME DOWN.
Now wait and do not disconnect the tablet from PC.

Hi, I used Lightheadeds link and I managed to install the stock rom that way. I also tried luk71s solution but Xperia Companion did not work because my tablet has an unlocked bootloader.
Many thanks, I now have a working tablet again!!!

Since you already unlocked your bootloader it makes sense that you do not have an OEM unlock option. In developer settings you must enable USB debugging and reboot in bootloader mode to flash twrp. What happens if you send the command 'fastboot devices'?

Thanks for replying my Sos.I did not have the unlock oem optoon before unlocking the bootloader. When I write adb devices the computer sees it in normal mode but does see the tablet in fastboot mode.

I checked my tablet and it has no OEM unlock option either, so maybe it is simply not implemented. This means you should be able to unlock.
To see your tablet in fastboot mode you must install the correct drivers on your PC. For me the easiest way was to install Flashtool from www.flashtool.net. It has an option to install drivers and it is also useful if you want to go back to stock. You may also want to backup your TA partition if you consider returning back to a pristine state.

You may have to disable driver signature verification: https://www.howtogeek.com/167723/ho...8.1-so-that-you-can-install-unsigned-drivers/
Also close Sony Companion and Flashtool if you run the fastboot commands.

Z3 tablet Root 2018
So I finally managed to root my lovely and Tiny Tablet. Info those interested.
Step by Step. My machine Windows 10 Pro 1803 : Did not work with this computer and changed on a second one Same windows Pro 1803
that does not mean it will not work on yours)
Phone is Z3 Tablet Compact with Marshmallow.
A On Computer
1 Installed Flashtool 64
2 Installed ADB FlashTool 5contains drivers also)
3 Installed Phones Driver (it may be included with Flash tool)
4 Installed Sony Flashtool
5 Unlocked Bootloader with Flashtool or Go to Sony's Site to obtain Unlockboot loader Code. Sorry Too long to explain ( I used Flashtool)
6 Downloaded SGP621_23.0.1.A.0.167_CE.ftf or other Firmware that fits you xperia device with Sony Flashtool :: ATTENTION This downgraded my phone to Android 5 Lollipop.
ON Phone
If you are here, you already know that you have to unlock your Developper mode, Allow Debbuging mode, Allow mock locations, Go to de security option and allow Unkown sources.
1 Installed Kingroot 4.50 (Install it even if Google says it may be dangerous)
2 Ran Kingroot 4.50 IT IS NOT the latest but it worked for me on Android Lollipop. (I had tried the lastests versions of Kingroot, Kingoroot, and other it did not work on Marshmallow and it did not work for me)
It did not work the first time. SO i tried a second time as proposed and it then worked.
2 bis I rebooted verified with a root checker afterwards: Rooted Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees
3 Then downloaded Root checker, Titanium Backup, Rom Manager, Official TWRP,SuperSU,Busy Box
4 Once rooted, I removed purify that came with Kingroot and other bloatwares and Installed the above apps. You don't have to do it but that is what I did.
As from here, you choose what you want to do. You are FREE to debloat and install what you want.
I will like to thank all the developpers on this site and thoses who a have showed my ways to find a solution. It is not always clear. But atleast they have tried.
So I am transmitting my experience for others.
Second stage finding the best Nougat or Oreo setup for me in a week or two.
Have a nice day

[Q] C6833 Sony Z Ultra - Can not enter fastboot but flash mode?

Hi Dev's,
verified the bootloader can be unlocked via *#*#7378423#*#*
installed the fastboot, flashmode & sony xperia z ultra drivers from the flashtool 0.9.18.2 installer (flashtool.net)
on windows 8.1 with deactivated driver compatibility check.
Now i've tried all 3 methods to enter into fastboot mode from here
(theandroidsoul.com/sony-xperia-z-ultra-fastboot-mode)
via volume up + usb in, adb & quick boot reboot (even if the device is not rooted at the moment)
, but no success. The device always starts into flashmode, and this is the only state being recognized by the flashtool in windows. All hardware keys are working fine.
Any more ideas how to enter fastboot? I am really stucked at the moment.
Thank you!
what does it do on vol down and usb in?
You are doing this from a powered off state?
Hi,
I really tried every method and button combination. it is just the same as in this thread I found later.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2716418
Seems like the fastboot mode is being hardware locked or something.
I return the device tomorrow, and check a new one (if I get) with android 4.2 stock Rom.

Help With a (Potentially) Soft-Bricked Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet

Hey guys,
I am sorry if I am in the wrong place or am asking something wrong. This is my first time using these forums (and forums in general). If I need to be somewhere else kindly redirect me.
Anyway, I was with Verizon for a while but after some shady stuff I decided to break up with them. Beforehand I had bought outright a Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet. Because I did not want anything Verizon on it I decided to root it, and flash a good ROM onto it (Cyanogenmod was my idea, but at the time I don't think they supported it? I'm not good with ROMS). Anyway, the rooting was completely successful and I had a custom recovery (TWRP) installed. I was ready to flash the ROM. Unfortunately, I wasn't paying attention and grabbed the wrong ROM. What ended up happening is when I attempted to reboot after "flashing", the device didn't show anything on the screen and just kept vibrating. After some digging around I found it might be "soft-bricked". I had at one time found a guide that told me how to undo this by using SDK Tools and Fastboot Mode (blue LED), but cannot find the guide anymore.
I was wondering if ANYONE could help me undo this mistake, and get the tablet back to it's original state or with a nice compatible ROM. I am currently in Fastboot mode and it is plugged into my ASUS Laptop running Windows 7. Any and all help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you so much for taking time to read this.
EDIT: So a breakdown is I cannot interact with the tablet directly. There is absolutely no interface. Just a screen that won't turn on. Meaning if there is a method it can't be done on the tablet. The old guide I found was explaining how to do it through Windows while the tablet was plugged into it via USB.
Also the bootloader was never unlocked so I think that was also an issue.
First of all, if your bootloader is locked, you cannot install CM because you cannot change the Kernel. You can only use Sony-certified Kernels which won't work with CM. So Sony-based ROMs are your only options
But what you can do is:
- Go into fastboot mode (turn off your tablet, connect it to your PC and press volume up. If the blue LED shows up, you are in fastboot)
- With fastboot, you should be able to flash a ROM (preferably Android 4.4, so you can root again)
- Then root, install dual recovery
- Flash the correct ZIP
Alternative:
- Unlock Bootloader
- Flash recovery
- Flash CM

Can you simplify this? Where do I find the ROM (again, this was a tablet from Verizon so I assume on top of the Sony ROM I need the Verizon version of it?) And I understand I cannot install CM unless the bootloader is unlocked; do you know how to do this?
I'm confused by the first set of instructions as I cannot use the tablet directly. How will I flash the ROM (and which is the right ROM and where can I find it?) through the computer since the tablet can't be interacted with. There is absolutely no interface to interact with whatsoever. Which ROM do I download for the Verizon Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet and how do I flash it using Fastboot? I assume I do it thru my computer?
Sorry, but you'll have to Google a little bit - I haven't had your exact problem.
But as long as you can get into fastboot mode, nothing is lost.
There also is the Sony ftf tool or so, the Windows program name is Emma. This should be easier than using fastboot.
Also there is a sony site for bootloader unlocking. You can check whether your bootloader can be unlocked at all.

M4 (E2303) stuck at Sony Logo - bootloader is not unlockable - Have NO recovery

Hi - have been searching these forums for days now but cant find a solution.
I am OK at flashing etc but am stuck now. Phone is stuck at Sony logo and won't go any further.
Phone is an Xperia M4 (E2303) and the bootloader is locked - have tried unlocking it but get 'Failed - command not allowed' so i'm guessing it is not unlockable!
I can't get into recovery (nothing happens when i try) and cant get into FlashMode either. I plug usb into phone while holding the volume down key. I CAN get into Fastboot mode which seems to work fine and is recognized ok by PC - drivers all installed ok.
Is there a way of flashing an FTF using Fastboot rather than Flashmode? or even installing any recovery. I have 32 and 64-bit Flashtool installed, i have FTF files and i have EMMA.
Can anyone help please? I would be very grateful - many thanks - ian
With bootloader locker you won't be able to flash anything. I had the same problem.
Desperately, my friend thought it was a good idea to put the phone on the refrigerator for a while.
Surprisingly, in the next day, I turned it on and the cold phone booted normaly and then I was able to set OEM unlock authorization on developer settings and unlocked the bootloader with sony unlock key.
Then I tried to flash a twrp, but I'm stuck back on boot loop again, and fridge didn't help this time.
Power OFF phone, then hold together for at least 30 sec in this order "volume down" + "volume up" + "power button". Then release 3 buttons and try to power on phone with power button. This procedure will revert your phone back to default settings.

Hi there,
Same problem as OP here.
I am trying to revive my wife ex-phone, model 2303 which has been forgotten for two years at least.
Stock rom
No root
Bootloader locked
Stuck at Sony Logo when starting up the phone.
Can boot in FastBoot (blue light) and is detected by PC
Can boot in FlashMode (green light) but PC doesn't detect anything. Nothing appears in Peripherals.
Any advices ?
What can be done in FastBoot mode with a locked bootloader ?

Also Xperia companion will install all needed drivers and could also recover device.

Thank your for your advices.
But in Flashmode the phone does not even appear in computer peripherals manager.
In FastBoot, Sony Emma does not detect phone neither.

Would it change anything as the phone is not detected in device manager anyway ?

Absolutely yes
From the use I note that the recovery doesn't read the internal data, but only the sd card. I still don't understand if it's the firmware that has bugs or the twrp that still isn't calibrated for Adroid Pie.
Edit: I found in the XDA site the recovery for the new firmwre and everything works fine here

Wait... I'm confused. I need an unlocked bootloader for this correct? Also, am I missing a step? I can't seem to unlock the bootloader. I have the key from Sony, but whenever I turn off the phone and try to enter bootloader mode (volume up + usb charger), the notification light turns blue, and that's it. Nothing appears on my screen, if I type fastboot devices, no devices appear as listed. And if I try to run the line of code, I'm just stuck "waiting for device" and nothing happens? Am I being stupid and missing something? Don't remember having this many issues with my htc m9.

Hmm, I think I know why it wasn't working? I got the xperia xz1 drivers off of the sony developer website, and I went to device manager and tried to do the legacy driver install, but I keep getting "This device cannot start (code 10)" Maybe that's the issue? And if so, am I installing it wrong or something?

I was under the impression that flash tool is used to get the latest version of the pi (which I already have as the update rolled out a few days ago)? Not for unlocking the bootloader? As for my bootloader, I'm stuck on that step. I'm following sony's steps on unlocking the bootloader, however, I'm stuck on the fastboot as my device isn't recognized. I guess I'll try again from the top, uninstall all the current drivers and reinstall them again.
I also want to add, whenever I plug my phone in into bootloader mode, the pc does recognize that a device is connected as the notification pops up, but again, "fastboot devices" returns nothing. Is there supposed to be a screen for the bootloader? Or is it just a black screen with the blue led?

Once you get your driver's fixed, just follow the directions given by Sony.. Your phone screen will remain black as all info will be done on your computer..

Absolutely no, flashtool doesn't need to unlock the bootloader, rather serves to re-lock it in some xperia devices. To unlock it you have to use cmd commands in adb & fastboot, but you can find it here in the XZ1 section.
The cell screen remains black and a blue led appears if you connect in fastboot mode, if you connect in flash mode the screen remains black, but a green LED appears.
if you have problems with the recognition of the device on your PC I can link my guide, it's in italian but if you use google translator you understand it well here

Xperia Z3 (D6603) bootloop after XZDualRecovery install

My first thread and my only device, please help.
My device was rooted 3 years ago downgrading to 23.0.A.2.93 then flashing a prerooted stock ROM.
Right now I was using 23.5.A.1.291 SLiMM 3.8 with SuperSU 2.82 and Xposed 89, but I think at some point I tried to update BusyBox and lost access to the recovery.
So my idea was to instal XZDualRecovery (2.8.26) then unlock bootloader and jump into some newer version of Resurrection Remix (my fav ROM) cause I felt I was quite behind and I don't really like any new device.
How I broke it:
I connected it to my computer (Win10), enabled USB debugging, clicked on the install.bat from XZDR and allowed debugging and root access, the script went as I thought it should, threw some "couldn't write" errors but I think the script figured out as I saw some mounting system partition and whatnot underneath, when it finished it tried to reboot and there I am, I cannot go past the Sony logo and it constantly reboots.
What I tried:
Using Xperia Companion's "Software repair", I shut the device down, I press volume - and connect USB, my computer finds a USB device but the software doesn't recognize it as my device, so it doesn't continue.
I also tried doing the same but this time with volume +, it recognizes my device but it says that is locked and to please unlock it (as in drawing the unlock pattern) but the screen is black and doesn't react.
Flashtool also cannot find the device.
My last attempt was to unlock the bootloader to see if that changed anything, fastboot doesn't do anything and shows < waiting for any device >.
The best of this all is that I didn't even have a backup of almost anything, as this process doesn't wipe anything I thought I was in the clear, the more you know...
Come on guys, I need some help, somewhere from where to start, either to recover my files or to revive my Z3.
