Mediapad M5 Pro Lte/4G only SOLVED! - Huawei MediaPad M5 Questions & Answers

I'm trying to set the network to "Lte/4G Only".
I've tried many methods but failed.
But finally I solved it myself but editing setting with "settings database editor"
This works at least on my Mediapad m5 pro without root.
Do take note that by forcing to 4G Only means that you are not able to recieve sms or call except VoLte.
Follow exactly from my post :
1. Download Settings Database Editor from playstore and open it
2. Look for hw_networkmode_preference and edit the stock value "9,6,2,1" to "11,9,6,2,1"
3. Restart the device
4. Open Settings Database Editor
5. Click on + Add new setting at the top
6. Type "hw_add_4g_only" (without " ") and press save changes
7. Type in your country code, example "502" Malaysia. ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_country_code )and press save changes
8. Type "hw_add_4g_only" (without " ") and press save changes (YES, REPEAT STEP 6)
9. Type in your country code, example "502" Malaysia. ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_country_code )and press save changes (YES, REPEAT STEP 7)
10. Restart the device and VOILA!

I tried other's method but not working so I play around and finally successfully activate 4g only.
Hope it helps...

Great tutorial! I was able to enable the 4G option only. Just a quick question... Does step 7 mean that it can only lock now on your country? Say you travel to other country and bought a local sim to be used on the same phone?

Mine doesnt have "hw_networkmode_preference"
Just "hw_networkmode_gstyle"
Any help?

Works on MediaPad M5 8.4 on Telekom Network Germany
Thanks!

Not sure about that but it should be working without alteration. U can just replace the Country code in case you need it when you travel.

at the "hw_networkmode_preference", just change the numbers according to these.
each digit means a mode.. you can specify only the values you need so that there are no unnecessary modes.
0 - preferably 2G and 3G
1 - only 2G
2 - only 3G
3 - auto 3G and 2G only
9 - 4G / 3G / 2G
11 - only 4G -
12 - 4G / 3G

Hi guys!
I am on Huawei MP 5 Pro. and Unifi Mobile (webe). On Android 9 and EMUI 9.1.
I am unable to get the LTE only after changing the settings... followed instructions exactly.
The signal is in 4g but when put on sleep and turn on screen, the connection drops to H+. 4g in my area is full bars. When on h+ and turn on airplane mode and turn off, its back to 4g until sleep.
Please help

Has anyone ever gotten VoLTE to work on an M5, and if so, how?
I ask because I recently got an 8.4" M5, and want to continue making cell calls with it it on T-Mobile when they finish replacing the 2G and 3G on their towers in my area.

How to Flash U Firmware On AT&T and Keep Volte & video calling and get lte band 17
So after Doing some looking around i found out how to get volte and video calling working, and enable band 17 on G930U. I dont take credit for this. i seen it on a different forum and just wanna make sure people know how to fix it.
For starters if you dont have g930u or dont know what it is. heres a great thread about it with easy to follow instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s7/how-to/xda-community-love-g930u-t3415875
Okay so after you flash the U Firmware.
edit the others.xml in System/csc. Scroll to the bottom of the xml and change volte and video calling to TRUE. Save and then reboot. The options will be in settings and the video calling icon will be in the dialer.
and to re-enable band I7 Open the dial pad
Type: *#0011# to enter Service Mode (Be very careful with what you do here)
Note: You need to be rooted for this to work
Once in Service Mode, do the following:
Tap the menu button and tap Back
Tap the menu button again and select "Key Input" and enter an upper case Q and press OK
Tap the menu button again and select "Key Input" and enter 4 zeroes (0000) and press OK
Wait 5 - 15 seconds. You'll see the Main Menu

Choose option [1]: SETTING
Choose option [1]: PROTOCOL

Choose option [4]: BAND SELECTION
Choose option [4]: LTE Band Preference
Choose option [7]: LTE ALL (Or you can choose any band instead)
If you want to go back then tap the menu button and choose Back (Don't press the back key)
Once again guys i take no credit for any of this. ive just seen people looking for the information and decided to put it all together for you
I am just curious, what's the benefit of enabling B17 on the device given that AT&T has B12 MFBI enabled throughout its network?
Does this enable the enhanced LTE voice? When you go to About Device > Status does it show IMS registration status as "Registered"? None of the carrier specific features will work unless the IMS is registered on the AT&T network.

What I understand is that none of the carrier specific features will work unless the AT&T network registers your phone. They have certain models they will recognize on their network for those features. 930U is not one of those models.

I don't understand. Isn't G930U supposed to be used in US? If a band is used by a US carrier and supported by phone hardware, why firmware disable it?

IMO this is because of the stupid AT&T policy, not because the phone does not support it.
AFAIK not being able to use band 17 is Samsung's problem right?

The S7 has wifi calling on the ATT branded rom. It's the stupid (or smart in a business sense) way they change things to their own proprietary format. If you want wifi calling then you have to buy their phone, not the U version.

That's what I'm saying it has wifi calling, but it does not work on the ATT network because they changed their rom for their wifi calling, the built in Wifi calling in the U rom does not work with ATT.

Network mode missing

Hi, I just recently use LG G5 Model F700K Korean variant and I notice that it missing the network mode for switching 4G and 3G connection. I also try hidden menu but mine doesn't show network test at all. Is there any way to access this menu???
I'm on LS992 running a GSM card.
I can toggle 4G/3G by going to Settings > Mobile Data > Menu > Mobile Networks > Network Mode > "Automatic" for 4G LTE data, "GSM/UMTS" for 3G data.
Using hiddenmenu APK, I can do it by selecting Field Test > Modem Settings > RAT Selection > "GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto" for 4G LTE data, or "GSM/WCDMA" for 3G data.
However, these were not accessible to me either until I switched from Production to Lab network using the hiddenmenu APK.

My apologies, I meant to include the link but didn't save it last post. Link to the APK installation file for "HiddenmenuCall" app is in the following guide:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-lg-g5/how-to/guide-gsm-unlock-sprint-lg-g5-t3574819
Essentially follow the guide and skip steps 4-6 (unlocking carrier bands, unless you want to do this too.) It will prompt you to turn on app installs from unknown sources in step 2; do so for this app and turn off after this installation is complete to keep secure.

Force 3G 4G only.

Hi , is there anyway to force 3g/4g only on this phone..? I've seemed to try every hidden menu code and nothing seems to work.
The reason I ask this is that I've downloaded a global firmware (171) for this phone and unfortunately my carrier no longer does 2G and when im getting poor 3g coverage it switches to 2g and lose service completely. This never happened on my old carrier firmware as it was setup not to switch to 2g.
I also think it's because I have a single SIM version and this new global firmware is setup for dual Sim.
Anyone got any solutions? Sounds like downgrading firmware isn't a option at the moment...

Hello,
yes, now we finally found a solution.
Do exactly as described:
1. Download Settings Database Editor from playstore and open it
2. Look for hw_networkmode_preference and edit the stock value "9,6,2,1" to "11"
3. Restart the device
4. Open Settings Database Editor
5. Click on + Add new setting at the top
6. Type "hw_add_4g_only" (without " ") and press save changes
7. Type in your country code, example "502" Malaysia or "262" Germany. Press save changes
8. Type "hw_add_4g_only" (without " ") and press save changes (YES, REPEAT STEP 6)
9. Type in your country code, example "502" Malaysia or "262" for Germany and press save changes (YES, REPEAT STEP 7)
10. Restart the device and VOILA!
Now you have access to ALL network modes. Select "LTE" or "4G" for 4G only functionality.
Like this, you have stable Internet nearly where ever you go, without dropping back to overcrowded 2G/3G Networks.
Best,
Stefan
i know this thread a month old but i tried this and 4g only option is there but it also removes all other options which for obv reasons is not good if in a non 4g area, is there a way to add the 4g/3g option .
ps: i found an old thread to add the 3g again but have to manually switch between the 2 options
Hey,
My device updated to the new firmware yesterday and I have lost the '3G Only' option. Is there a way to unlock this?
Apologies if this has been asked before but I can only seem to find the 4G solution. Thanks in advance
No texts
I can't send any text messages over any network mode, and to make or recieve calls I had to change modes.

No guarantee it will work, but you can try inputting the following codes in Phone > Dial pad to disable carrier check (to re-enable it just input the same code again) :
For Enhanced 4G (VoLTE) :
*#*#86583#*#*
For WiFi Calling :
*#*#869434#*#*
For my case, WiFi Calling option appear but not working.
Good luck!

Don't need to reset phone, just restart if you want. Then check :
Settings > Wireless & network > Mobile network > Enhanced 4G > ON
Phone > Settings > Calling account > Sim1/Sim2 > Wifi calling > ON
Like I said earlier, may or may not work. In my case, wifi calling is still not working.

Thanks in advance
I just followed the guide and have both vowifi and volte enabled in my wife's mi A3.
It goes without saying that I had previously enabled the vowifi in her carrier.
