I read in reviews that notifications are not showing in the notification bar? - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

I currently own a oneplus 6 , thinking of buying this phone and sell my oneplus and keep the cash difference....
But I read that the software on the phone has a notification issue, where they do not show up in the notification bar and also they cannot be acted upon (according to a review)
Has this issue been fixed?
Also, does the phone have a notification light?

There are no notification in the status bar.
The phone has a notification light, only in white colour.

Thank you for your reply, I presume though this is just a software bug with the notifications not been shown in the notification bar?

That does not sound correct to me, you can fit an icon notification or 2 or the left or right of the notch with ease really......on the oneplus the new ones just push them off of the notch .
where do notifications show at the moment ?

Notifications doesn't show at all.. Left side is clock.. Right side wifi, network, battery.. That's all.
Can you show a screenshot of how its handled in op6 and what do u mean by pushing off the notch?

Please see attached screenshot.
On the oneplus on the left handside is the clock and 3 spaces for notifications, when a new one appears, the notification icon on the left drops off and the new one appears to the right next to the clock....
The screenshot is taken direct using the phone, so the notch is not displayed as looking at the screen.
I shall take one of the phone also.
It works really well.....

This is well handled by OnePlus. However the Poco Notch is bigger, and right now, It's impossible to show notification icons, and that's frustrating. You need to check manually by sliding the bar each time ...
I heard that this problem is also present in other Mi Phones.

I was all primed and ready to buy a F1 today, but the notification situation totally stopped me in my tracks....I would have sold my Oneplus 6 8gb and used the F1 as my daily phone for work.....hopefully things will change in a software update.

@justwondering
I sold my op6 for my Mi 8 and I have only regrets and gonna buy a 6t soon after it release.

In fairness, my oneplus 6 has not let me down it is a great phone which I use for work so it has to be reliable, notifications are very important to me.
I too would like a 6T , I have had many of the Oneplus phones, the oneplus 2, 5, 5T and 6 , all of which have pretty much cost me nothing as I buy and sell my phones cheap and make a profit.

Not only that, but I don't see notification in lock screen too. At least had it been showing things would be better. I'm not sure if it's only in the 18 update or if it's happening in 14 update too.. Only sometimes I see whatsapp displaying in lock screen but if you open the phone and bring down the notification shade there would be other notifications too.

AOD and screen burn in

With the absence of the notification LED, I'd like to use the AOD to see notifications.
The big drawback of that is that it doesn't move to help prevent burn in.
Does anyone have a work around for that, or a good AOD app that you use?
Will we have burn in?

So you think Google disabled the AOD burn in avoidance feature on the Pixel 3?

Edit: I contacted support as well but all I could get was an ambiguous assurance that "AOD won't hurt performance". No confirmation either way about whether it avoids burn in.

Guys, it's easy enough to test on your own instead of asking some ignorant support guru in India. Put a post it on the screen with a corner on one of the dots separating the hours and minutes, and you'll see that it does still move around ever so subtlety.
I have kind of tested this and I can tell you from watching carefully where the AOD display in connection with where the lockscreen is which is stationary. I can tell you that the AOD does move from time to time and does not stay in the same place.

Clearly, Looks like you got intolerant against Indian geeks. Hah. Any given day, unlike you - I think, they're proficient and down to earth at the same time.
By the way, the answer to the OPs question is, On my Pixel 3, the AOD does move a very little bit randomly by a very little margin, you won't notice it until you pay close attention to it for a while. Alternatively, you can use apps like Burn check, in order to check if your display is okay.
I've just created an app called Pixel Pulse. I could use some testers if anyone is willing to give it a try. You can select the apps you want to have the app pulse your Ambient Display. There's paid customization for icons and colors but the core functionality of the app is free.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.compass.pixelpulse
If you had previously purchased Ambi-Turner, it has been updated for the new permissions, but because it was written for 8.0 and when Google's ambient display worked differently I decided to leave it as it is. You may however transfer your purchase status of Ambient Display to Pixel Pulse using both apps.

Global ROM 10.2.1 is out with numerous bugfixes, and new security patch

New Security patch is dated 01.12.2018.
Battery is also tweaked, it is only possible to choose graphical or percentage within the battery itself. Adaptive battery is there, maybe it was not new but I haven't seen it before.
Also, now we have several new option to choose inside multitasking window...

Meh, standby drain is something you can see easly if you have an app to monitor the battery .
What about the buggy status/bar + notch instead ?
Yes, there is still a battery in the device. It seems that the new version doubled the capacity. 10.1 -> 10.2. And there will be an XIAOMI coffee pot which can be connected to the USB-port. Just download the MIUI V10 coffee brewer app from fuggbatterydiscussions.com. :silly:

I can confirm notifications are now working in AOD, not all apps notifications are being displayed though. WhatsApp, GMail, Messenger ok, MS Teams and Outlook are not. Also the notifications appear but if you unlock and lock the screen without viewing the notifications they no longer show. Don't seem to be persistent like on the Samsung AOD. Maybe something to do with the notification/clock process which also only occurs once at screen unlock.
Auto-brightness is still shocking (I'm using Velis) and again AOD always turns off in low (no) light, making it very much not 'always on'. Full-screen mode seems to be working better, with animations following gestures being far less laggy.

On-screen notifications with screen off?

So, the LED is way too tiny for my aging eyes (also cannot get it to change colours with Lightflow anyway). I am looking for some sort of app that can show a notification on the screen when the screen is off. I don't want the screen to turn on. I just want some sort of icon to show up. I used to use an app called NoLed that would do this. You could customize icons for different notifications, colours, timing, duration, etc. Looks like that app is long gone.
I've been trying a bunch of different "edge lighting" apps, hoping to find one that will simply light up the edges to notify my (when the screen is off). So far, none of them work the way I want (or at all).
Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Ah-ha! Thank you so much sir!
There are several drop-in AOD replacement apps, and they work well, but... From all reports they drink your battery too much to be worth it. Too bad, not sure why Huawei didn't go that next obvious step and have control over 'per app' notifications and such. It pretty much makes the stock AOD useless unless you really, really like knowing what time it is.

I had all the settings looking like they were correct. I chose difference colours for different apps, but no go. It wouldn't even work when trying "test". It would only work with the screen on.

Same here.. 30% overall drain overnight.. Means at least 20% by the app itself
Just gave this app a try and it's got a few quirks to it. If I leave the "allow fingerprint functionality" after about 3 seconds the fingerprint location lights up and that's all that shows on the screen.
I also noticed when unlocking, face detection is no longer automatic. I have to double tap the screen to dismiss this app and then double tap again to start the face unlock.

Did you try it and does it work?
Just to know if the API that supports it is there.
It seems the downsides of all the led apps is that once you get the notification you can't unlock the phone with the fingerprint sensor, you have to double tap the screen or something to cancel the app and then unlock the phone.
Working pretty well for me this far. I added this app on my gf's and my S10 Plus's. Besides going through the bevy options we have it setup. The light only goes around the camera when a notification comes in. Still doing some tsing so I'll update if anything.

MIUI 11 - Ambient Display Breathing Light [BUG]

So it would seem one of the features of miui 11 which I looked forward to is not as effective as I hoped. That is the pulsing breathing light.
When the screen is locked, the ambient display brightness dims after a few seconds. If and when a notification comes, the brightness remains dim and you can hardly notice the pulsing effect or even the arrival of the notification for that matter.
I would assume the screen would brighten up and the pulse would be more prominent but unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case.
Yes it's pretty useless feature notification dont seem work very well since getting 11

Got miui 11 on my k20 pro yesterday, feels quite nice but the notification animation (rhythm) lights up continuously when, for example, the Google maps notification is active. Feature is quite cool but this makes it rather useless/annoying.
Got the MIUI 11 few minutes ago.
I thought the ambient display would work like the old Moto X, just showing something when I receive a notification or raise up the phone.
Showing all the time like this doesn't rises the risk of burn in? Or am I missing some option?

Messages don't appear on screen for me even after allowing notification permission
Since 11 I don't get any notifications like I did. Screen stays black with AOD turned off but sounds off. With AOD on it does not show any new notifications or any lights go off. Useless.

Got miui 11 on my k20 pro yesterday, feels quite nice but the notification animation (rhythm) lights up continuously when, for example, the Google maps notification is active. Feature is quite cool but this makes it rather useless/annoying.

Have you found any way to fix this?
I really enjoy the notification animation, as the notifications led is not always facing me/not visable.

AOD only works with some apps. Whatsapp and Gmail work. Textra and Outlook do not. It has never worked properly on MIUI. It's pretty useless like this. xiaomi.eu devs add each app (by request) to the AOD. I don't know why Xiaomi have such a poor AOD.

For anyone who is unaware, xiaomi.eu rom (11.04 stable) can display notification icons for all apps in AOD now.
