Screen pinning - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

Once screen pinned, then it's not coming to normal state by pressing and holding the back and recents buttons together.
Can anyone help me

Any update

Nope still the same on stable MIUI 10 global. Which is disaster especially if you use navigation gestures as it's very easy to pin the screen. Does anyone on Android P beta experience the same issue?

BTW I'm on MIUI 10.1.3.0 (Poco f1). I've tried everything to turn on Screen pinning but I couldn't find that under settings. Please help.

How to avoid screen pinning.
I have found a way to avoid restart when screen pinned button is pressed accidentally which is always annoying.
Method: When screen pinned button is pressed it will show you instructions to unpin. Just press the power key, there you go you have successfully avoided the screen to be pinned.
Note: Don't press ok button when it shows how to unpin, if pressed ok then only way to get out is restart.
This method will work for both button and full screen gestures users
Hope I've helped.

Yyayyy indeed that works! Thanks buddy as it's been so annoying since I've been using full screen gestures for navigation and would always have to restart the phone. Thank you

Steps to activate/disable Screen pinning:
- Install Settings Database Editor ( play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=by4a.setedit22 ). Add https://
- Open App and go to "System Table"
- Find or Create a key (it didn't exist in my case, so I created it) with name "lock_to_app_enabled" and set value "1" (ON) or "0" (OFF)
Tested in miui global beta 9.3.21 and works flawlessly.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, this "feature" has been really getting on my nerves, and I've managed to get out of the screen pinning by getting tap happy with the buttons and keys but without really working it out and not wanting to test. Well I got stuck in it again today to the point of Googling again for a solution (which I didn't find), but I found my own so thought i'd post it, i'm using a Xiaomi Mi 9 running MIUI Global 10.2.30 but expect the same to apply to the POCOPHONE F1 also.
When your screen is pinned press the physical power button and the home (middle) soft button and screen pinning will be removed, hopefully that helps someone else out !

How you pin your screen? I am new in miui (10.3.8.0) please help.
I use full screen mode.
I couldn't find any option to pin screen

Yes bro it works fine and now i can use DMR in oubg for tap tap tapp Thanks bro

This technique also works on RN8PRO running EEA MIUI 11.0.2.0. Many thanks for sharing the tip as it is a really useful feature.
However would anyone of you know how to enable password feature when unpinning?
Since that pinning feature does not seem to be 'supported' natively by our Xiaomi phones I'd be curious to know what key to add to also have the password supported when unpinning.
I'd guess we could get that value from any other phone running stock android and supporting the pinning feature natively.
Thanks
UPDATE:
Sharing if it may interest someone like me.
So I grabbed my old non MIUI phone and dig its settings.
Turns out we can enable lock on unpinning by just adding an other simple value key in Secure table.
To be allowed to do so, you first need to grant extra permission to app through adb:
It may not be the case for all devices but for my RN8PRO I needed root (su) to apply the adb command.
Code:
pm grant by4a.setedit22 android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
Once permission granted, select Secure table, and add the following new key:
Code:
lock_in_app_exit_locked 1
All set, you will now be asked to unlock screen once you unpin pinned app by long pressing back.
Hope this helps.

New DeviceLock Release v1.2

First, the important stuff:
Download Link:
http://www.mr2-power.com/downloads/DeviceLock.CAB
Here is the old thread discussing the app from the time I first released it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=261277
I have released a new version of my Device Lock application. There is one primary enhancement in this version, but it is one many people have asked for.
Upon installing the new version you will notice a two new options in the Device Lock control panel applet. First is "Easy Unlock". What this option does is allow you to unlock the device with a single click of the left menu button (the button directly under the Unlock menu that appears when the device is locked) and not need to touch the button on the screen or type "*" on your keyboard. The second option enables a vibrate alert when the device is unlocked using this method. This is to avoid having the phone unlock in your pocket (fairly unlikely) and not notice it.
If you want the least number of button presses to unlock you can always select the "Do not lock buttons" option in the Lock tab of the Buttons control panel applet (same place you assign programs to different buttons). This means that even if your device is suspended you can simply press the left menu button to unlock the device. One click, easy, but also prone to accidental unlocking (so you should probably use the vibrate option).
The safest (and my preferred) method) is to select the "Lock all buttons except Power button" or "Lock buttons if device is locked" option. Then, if your device is suspended (mine usually is when in my pocket) you have to first press the power button, then the left menu button to unlock. Still only two button presses and easily done without looking at the device. If the device is not suspended.
Everything else is the same as it always was.
Enjoy!
-Matt Armstrong
Terrific, almost perfect. It miss an important feature for me: turning off display after lock, which is important for listening music.
Good job.
Updated: Found the option "blank screen" is what I want. Shouldn't it be "black screen"? My understanding of "blank screen" is unlock to today screen.
Perfect now.
Hey Matt! First, thank you very much for this great software and for the improvements. Also a special thank you for sending me an email that my request has been heard
Still, I have problems on my Hermes using your new "Easy unlock feature". I assigned DeviceLock to the left SoftButton in my TodayScreen. When I press it it locks the device and for unlocking, I have to repress the left soft button. When repressing, I still have to touch the screen and it also doesn't vibrate.
Could it be that it's because of me using WM6? Do you have WM6 installed on your device? Can anyone confirm it with a Hermes running WM6?

No, I do not have WM6 on my Wizard and the software has never been tested (by me) on WM6. The issue could be that you are mapping the lock software to the same button required to unlock it.
Here's a simple test, when you press the left SoftButton to unlock the device, does a dialog pop up with a title of Unlock? If so, does the dialog say that you can press the button on the screen or type "*"?

Yes, that's what it does - as it was always doing before . I hope this issue can easily be resolved. Maybe you're using some functions that are different for WM6.

Also with the EasyUnlock feature? No additional touchscreen press necessary?
Someone else who has it assigned to the left Soft Button for activation and working EasyUnlock?
There are still a small issue left. When the devicelock is activated and display is off (with blank screen option), only pressing the left or right soft keys can turn on the display. Even worse, pressing the softkeys will trigger the commands of softkeys before the unlock windows shows up. For example, in today, pressing the left softkeys will run email.exe in my treo 750v before " unlock " shows up, which is very annoying.
When can't it just lock/unlock without any extra effect?
This is probably a problem with the microsoft lock mechanism. I'm using the method described in the MSDN to turn off the screen, so I'm not sure how I can do it differently. I can search for an alternative method to blank the screen, but I don't have much hope of finding one. I did not write the locking mechanism itself so I have no control over the way it locks/unlocks. All I'm doing is automating the process that is built into the OS. So I cannot fix bugs in the lock itself. Even the Easy Unlock solution is simply an automation. The solution turned out to be very simple, I simply keep the device lock application resident in memory after locking the device. It continually searches for a window with the title "Unlock" and then simulates pressing the * key... That's it. After sending the keypress it vibrates (if enabled) then terminates. So the application is only resident in memory while the phone is locked.
And I'm not sure what you mean by lock/unlock without any extra effect. The only "effect" I add is the vibrate on unlock, which is optional.

Sorry, Matt, I didn't make me clear. As to the extra effect, I mean the side effect of triggering commands before unlocking. Since it also happens to other lock program, I guess i have to settle with it.
Well, this may be a problem specific to the Treo. I tried the scenario you describe on my Wizard and had no problem. I changed myoption to "blank screen" and the device unlocks just fine for me when I press the left app button. However, the difference with my phone is that the only way to turn the screen back on is to press the power button (just like waking it up from being suspended). Unfortuantely, I doubt there is anything I can do to solve your problem, I'm sorry.
Edit: Just to clarify something, are you pressing the left app button (the one with the mail icon on it) or are you pressing the left menu button? I may have made a mistake in my initial post Basically, you need to press the button that is directly below the menu item that says Unlock.
-Matt
Hi, this device lock works fine on my orbit.
One small issue as previously stated with the left soft key.
I use wm5 new menu.
With first press new menu pops up
Second press, bye bye new menu
Third press unlock and vibrate
Thanks for the app, I was already using the previous release and this is now more convenient for me.
Great update!
On the easy unlock, could you make the vibrate much shorter?
I have SPB shell and get the "now screen" on wake up
It would be nice to have the unlock app the way it is right now but separate so that I could map it out on the "now screen"
Thanks
I mean left softkey ( the key corresponding to the two big buttons on bottom). In treo 750, once devicelock is activated, only the softkeys (left or right) can turn on the screen (same in vjdevicelock), all hardware buttons and keyboard keys are locked.
Maybe it is not related to treo. You see, both uniqueboy and Kikouyou has the same problem as me.
oh my, please port this to smartphone!
GREAT !
An absolutely superduper great and VERY useful little app !
Specially using the "Lock all buttons except Power button" approach

hi
was checking out Slide2Unlock just now and I actually set it to be launched by DeviceLock (launch program when device is lock feature) and the result is not desirable. there's some 'violation' error.. = ( anyway of overcoming this?
think it will be cool to have the phone auto lock when it's off and launch 'Slide2Unlock' when it's awake!! = )

Once a tab is pinned it doesn't unpin.

When I pin a tab and try to unpin it doesn't let me. It shows the message to press back anfd overview together but it doesn't unpin no matter how long I press them together. Tried it on multiple apps, I get the same result. Anyone else facing same issue or know how to correct it?
if you mean the tabs in the recents you havr to swipe the app down to lock and down again to unlock
Problem is with gesture mode. When gesture mode is enabled, screen pinning should be disabled.
There is no option in MIUI to enable or disable screen pinning. So need to wait for MIUI to fix it
For now need to be careful, not to press it. Rebooting the phone for this issue is a pain now.
I'm facing the problem in button mode
I too am facing this issue in my poco F1 in button mode as well. Seems like a nasty bug as I NEED to reboot my mobile everytime for this.
Same here when pin the app it doesn't come out of it and the only way out is to restart the phone. Hope it's going to be fixed soon.
Anyone find a work around to this pinning problem yet? I think that the developer team is not even aware of this issue. As even after so much time there is no fix. Can anyone let them know of this irritating bug?
Omg glad a read this. Just pinned YouTube for my son to realise with gestures on it can't be unpinned. Was worried it would be a full reset
Workaround
This is a workaround. This is how unpin is done in android.
Press & hold power button & home screen ( middle) button together, you'll be taken to home screen.

Solution for screen unpinning in gesture mode
Download the app soft keys- home back button app from Google Play Store. This will give the phone virtual home button even if your phone is in gesture mode.

Disable screen pinning completely without root

Hi! I've been using Pocophone for about two weeks now, so far I like the phone for the performance and simplistic UI.
But I've been experiencing some problem, especially with the Screen Pinned
Sometimes when I'm using the phone, I accidentally get into Screen Pinned mode and because I'm using gesture mode for navigation I can't press home button / back button. I just can't get out of the Screen Pinned. The only way to get out of it is to restart the phone, which is kinda annoying.
Is there any way to get out of Screen Pinned while in gesture mode? I tried to use the shortcuts to kill the app, but it still doesn't work.
Or is there even a way to disable the Screen Pinned?
Can someone please help?

This problem is available on miui devices. Im using a redmi note 7 and this is the most annoying bug in the os that the first app in the recent apps have the screen pinning button and every time i accidentally press it i have to reboot my phone to exit the app properly and make the phone system function again. If anyone knows a workaround, please help.
If you still wondering, try downloading setedit from play store, and change the value of "lock_to_app_enabled" to 0

[Q] It's possible disable shutdown option with Poco locked?

Hi,
With stock rom (stable or open beta), when Poco F1 are locked and press Power Button, there are an option to shutdown phone.
This is a security problem!
If the phone is stolen, the thief can easily turn off the phone and prevent us from locating it, deleting its contents, ringing...
It happened to my stepfather, who only regained its Pocophone thanks to video surveillance of the space where it was stolen because the phone was immediately shut down and we cannot get your location.
Is there any way to disable the power off option when the phone is locked?
Preferably without Root access.

There is no way to totally disable the power button.
Even if you were able to make the shut down option to disappear, pressing the power button for 10-15 seconds will make the phone reboot.
Yes, press for 15 seconds reboot, but don't shutdown! After reboot, I can localized the phone again!
I only want remove the "Shutdown" option on power menu.
interested cuz it happened to me yesterday, i guess its a security thing. cuz someone turned off my phone and luckily i was wearing my Bluetooth ear piece and i noticed it got disconnected so i barely found it.
i think there should be a way to like put a password or fingerprint when u wanna reboot or shutdown the phone!!

There's no option like that in 10.3.7
I have that option on custom miui by xiaomi.eu
Its very useful but still i would prefer if the power button was completely locked by password so the phone cannot be rebooted to recovery by the thief.

Question Fingerprint doesn't work after update MIUI 12.5

Hi
After update MIUI to 12.5, I normally use an application (screen off and lock) to lock the screen, since double tap doesn't work.
Turns out that after the update when I lock the screen through the app, I can't unlock with fingerprint saying that "device locked by admin" and I have to use the pin to unlock.
Anyone knows how to overcome this?
Thanks in advance.

This was not funny at all i have to say,my wife is absolutely crazy because of this issue and think´s the whole phone is ruined because of this,okay..
Isn´t it anyone out there who has a solution for this or do we really have to wait for another update to come before we can have the fingerprint to work again because i really hope they going to fix this for us or?

Same here on mi 10T
I have learned not to update MiUI, as the updates rarely fix old bugs and ALWAYS introduce new bugs. Best just sticking with what it came with until a custom ROM comes along and then leave the MiUI crap in the past.
Problem is 3rd app lock method.
Here is solution:

I use NOVA LAUNCHER and I have same problem after 12.5 update. So I changed LOCK method in NOVA and it works.

So easy but still so difficult to figure out...
This was really good to learn about i have to say, thank you very much for your help!
I solved this issue after updating my Mi Note 10 to MIUI 12.5.1 by switching from 3rd party screen lock / turn off app to an official built-in widget simply called "Lock" (go look for it, it should be near the top in Widgets section when you press and hold empty home screen area).
To remove unofficial screen lock app you must first revoke admin rights, of course, otherwise its ghost will keep reappearing after each uninstall attempt.
I simply like stock MIUI Launcher, so using 3rd party ones to solve this was unacceptable for me.
if u guys are just talking about turn off screen without using side button, then there are some options present in miui...
1) [if u r using button navigation] setting> additional setting> button shortcut> turn off screen> choose as ur choice
2) You can also use the quick ball, 'setting> additional setting> quick ball' with quick ball u can use 5 shortcuts like home, menu, lock, clear cache, ss etc
3) the widget option... Just like d789 said
And 'double tap to wake or turn off screen' option is present in the "setting> always on display & lock screen"...
Thanks, I overlooked that buttons shortcuts in Settings can be configured to lock the screen as well (e.g. long hold Back or Home on-screen button).
Yeah, double-tap to wake or turn off screen is also very useful feature I use since day 1.

I use NOVA LAUNCHER and I have same problem after 12.5 update. So I changed LOCK method in NOVA and it works.

For me this doesn't work.
I use Nova and always have.
In Nova I go to "Gesture and Inputs" change the "double tap" to "screen lock".
I then choose "Accessibility" and add Nova.
After that if I double click nothing happens. If I remove Nova from accessibility and then double tap it asks me to use device admin or accessibility. I use this way on every single mobile I use but on 12.5.3 I can't pick accessibility as it refuses to do anything when Nova is added.

Thanks, I didn't know about that.
Now the only thing for me that is still broken is the fact that I can't use gestures with Nova launcher.
To everyone who's still facing this issue. This fix helped me and a lot of others as well. Try it out.
It's a rare but annoying glitch in MIUI, you can easily solve it:
1. Go to TWRP -> File Manager
2. Browse to: /data/system
3. Delete file "locksettings.db"
4. Reboot.
You will need to set the lock screen password/pattern again, if you had any before.

I have learned not to update MiUI, as the updates rarely fix old bugs and ALWAYS introduce new bugs. Best just sticking with what it came with until a custom ROM comes along and then leave the MiUI crap in the past.

That's a bit harsh. We have had Redmi 4 prime, 5 plus, note 7, 8, 10 and mi 11 lite and I have not had significant issues during upgrades.

Dear friend, my phone is Redmi Note 7 Pro. I had no issues after doing this. It worked perfectly for me. So, as I saw this forum thread before fixing my phone, I just shared the information I knew. Not everyone will get the same result from this, because not everyone has the same phone. So, whether or not you didn't get the expected outcome, you shouldn't tell others to not follow this. It's their choice, not yours. Maybe atleast some of them will find it useful than you did.

Thank you very much.
This works for my RN10Pro using MIUI13.0.6, change the lockscreen setting in Nova, from admin to accessibility.
I can't double tap to close home screen anymore, but there's still home button in the lowest middle to do that.
The most important thing is, I can directly go to home screen just by touch the fingerprint button.
Thanks for your advice.
If you guys are talking about the fingerprint button then i suggest you just use the gestures that are provided by default of the settings since there nust be a spatial consisting of failure of recognizing the algorithm of identifying user by fingerprint method or they just didn't implement the algorithm that is stored inside the operating system of the phone.
So gestures is the only way to go you can apply gestures by using monetary apps that may give access to other gestures like slide down to view user statistics or usage and slide up to reveal system settings but i couldn't blame the operating system though for having not enough gestures but I'm also. Thankful that they have custom gestures so i wouldn't imply to an app that can be placebo or popular in playstore who knows it can be money cashgrab(just stating the fact that i had to cancel so many subscription on a gesture app)
