Custom themes for Moto G5S Plus using Substratum official Oreo 8.1 without Root - Moto G5S Plus Themes, Apps, and Mods

Finally after Oreo 8.1 update for Moto G5S Plus you can install custom themes to your device using Substratum and Andromeda engine without root. You'll require to purchase Andromeda app from play store (no patches would work, should be installed from playstore only) and another app Substratum theme engine and a windows pc or mac. Just follow this thread on xda for instructions.
https://www.xda-developers.com/custom-themes-android-oreo-substratum/
Since I couldn't upload screenshots here due to some network error on Xda labs app, visit this link for screenshots. I'm using Android Pie theme

Could you walk me through the steps you did after installing all that, I mean the theme setup using substratum.

yeah i am also using this theme and it's awesome.

Have you installed Andromeda and Substratum theme engine already in your phone??

I had everything downloaded and it was all fine.. But when I was building the theme, it said 'now able to connect to the andromeda end' but it said it's connected on Andromeda how it's shown here on the screenshots. Please help

Did you buy Andromeda app from playstore or installed from some another website??
If you've bought from playstore then you'll also have to download windows or mac link (whatever you own) for Andromeda to run the commands while connecting your phone to PC

I did purchase the app.. And followed the procedure to be done on the PC.... It still didn't work

Can you actually tell me what went wrong??

I have tested several themes and just a few works fine for me. I recommend you to follow carefully the guide and to check out the free "Substratum Pixel Theme", which works for me just with the settings menu colors.

Pie dark and light themes also work fine. I'm using both.

Pie dark works nice but Pie light doesn't, in my phone. Do you do something special or just install as usual?

Layers support

Did anyone try layers on stock o2os?
And if, does it work fine?
Yes, Oxygen OS does support layers. I just found this out as well. There are a few themes that need to update/fix, like the 3 dot menu area in the dailer. Other than that everything works well.

In which version of OxygenOS did you try layers?
Just yesterday I installed Layers manager, installed a Layers theme from play store, applied it, rebooted and stuck in bootloop..
I'm in lastest OOS 2.1.3-X with blu_spark kernel..

No, Kernel will not automatically install apps like busybox. I would start with the busybox installation and then trouble shoot from there.
How did you get past the bootloop of you don't mind me asking?? If you restored a backup, then good for you.

Yes. If you all the other necessary items installed (SuperSU, kernel of you're liking) then all you "should" need is busybox.

Could we have some kind of a list of working Layers?
At least the ones you have tried.
The ones I've tried are not complete. There some aspects of the theme that's not showing up.
Timberwolf
Skyblue
Inversion
Art
Vivid colors
Currently using Art theme by SPAstef
Thanks a lot.

There's a much easier way you guys can recover from bootloop due to a bad layer. Just boot into recovery, then select twrp file manager, and delete the bad layer from system>vendor>overlay folder. If you have many layers and are not sure which one of them is bad, just delete the whole folder, that will just delete all the applied layers.
I tried many of the free layers available on play store. Almost all of them were working on my device, except Art, iirc. Which was disappointing since I read on the OP forums it was working fine for most people
However, most of the layers did actually miss a few settings icons from getting themed.
Another interesting thing I noticed - dark colored themes work best if you set dark mode on in OOS, and bright themes with dark mode off. I had fewer bootloops that way, don't really know exactly why it happens.
Anyhoo, here's some of the themes that I liked and are working perfectly fine on my device:
-Navigate
-Pastelz Light
-Simpl
-Zed
I'm currently rocking Zed, looks great :good:
Can some one post ss?

i've tested a lot of layer theme. one common issue, if you install the framework overlay you will get bootloop when you reboot your phone. another bug, if you press the power button lil bit longer, it will soft reboot instead showing the advance reboot option. you can try install any theme but leave the framework first. try to contact the dev, or provide them with framework-res.apk so they can update the framework for oneplus x. hope this help you guys

1. Reboot to twrp
2. File manager > system/vendor/overlay
3. Delete all overlays
4. Say thanks to me
5. You just unbricked layers

U can use "custom nav bar pro" from play store for theming and customization of nav bar
See here
Yes I used that when I first got it, but with substratum the theming is endless and it you can also re-theme the nav bar animations.

Hello,i if is possible can you send me your BLPGU modem it can be found in System/Etc/MDDB via zip file to isikmuhamm @ gmail. com ?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jerbeck24.Spectrum
(Trying this again, I bought it last year, and I enjoyed it)
Rooted and running Substratum. I have tried Coalfield, Compound, S.I.X. Theme, J Dark Ice, and a few others. Is anyone else having problems to get the themes to install correctly? I mean, they build fine and install, but if I choose a red accent with black primary, I still get the teal accent with black primary. Coalfield has done the best, but still doesn't theme everything as I would like. Any advice?
Also, with other phones, I remember being able to set priorities for multiple themes. That option doesn't appear anymore.
Some substratum themes just won't work with aosp rooms, all of the aospUI rooms work flawless with our phone when you select compatability mode with pixel accents

You not only need the substratum app but you also need the sungstratum add-on, which is paid.

You have to open settings and tick allow dangerous overlays. Then they will be shown.

Yes, there is another one solution that you have to install the old version of substratum like 855 I'm using.
The reason why you didn't see other themes is the developer manages to keep your device safe with supported themes only.

It'd be better you uninstall the overlays first.Btw I remember they will be automatically deleted after you have uninstalled the substratum app.

To apply "dangerous overlays", that is, system UI overlays like the ones bellow you need to get a Samsung compatible theme. I recommend Swift Black for Samsung, and Black panel.

How to get custom themes?? [Android 7.0 Nougat][Root]

Hi, So i am new to the whole rooting thing i have a Samsung Galaxy J530F and i want to make the UI look better and i have looked everywhere online and tried downloading substratum but that is useless because you have to pay for it.
Can anyone please tell me how to get themes?
I recommended Substratum
They will use this
Nougat (RRO): Requires root, exposures unsupported, not all themes compatible
as the theme engine!
ALWAYS PREPARED SUBSTRATUM RECOVERY.ZIP Incase you got bootloop!
Just flash substratum recovery (aka remove overlay & etc).zip in TWRP!

Is there a way to get substratum for free? I have looked here on XDA and elsewhere on the internet but can't seem to find it, i install the normal substratum App from the playstore but it then asks me to pay for it.
