[ROM][Exynos] Aurora ROM - Oreo 8.0 ROM for Note 7 - Note 7 Guides, News, & Discussion

Note: I am not affiliated to the Dev team of this ROM, just a Note 7 user who would like to share the ROM with everyone here. Hence, NO dev support will be provided.
Some elements of the UI/ROM options are in Chinese, but I will not be providing translations unless there is demand. Thank you for your understanding
A Chinese dev team has recently released an Oreo port for the Note 7, and hence I am sharing it here for everyone to enjoy.
The original Dev thread (in Chinese): Here
Once again, I am not affiliated to the Dev team, so don't direct any questions/bugs as I will not know how to solve them.
Most of the info listed below is translated from the original thread.

3. Perform a full wipe (system, data, cache)
4. Flash the installer zip (download link below).
5. Follow the pictures in the album: How to install
6. The first boot may take 10-15 mins. Be patient.
7. Once the setup wizard pops up, change the language to English (or any language of your choice)

FAQ section (translated from the original dev thread)
Q: Google play services keeps stopping
A: Go to app permissions in settings and enable location access for Google play services.
Q: Unable to sync Google contacts
A: Go to app permissions -> Contacts, and enable all 3 settings for Google play services.
Note: The ROM comes with Google Play store installed but disabled by default. Refer to bomcoi1402's comment to see how to enable it.

Can you help me to install Google services? (Google play, Gmail, Maps, Google account manager, ...)
Thank somuch!
Update: I was installed. In Aurora app.

Hey guys, if you like using your device, DO NOT INSTALL this rom, it has a lot of chinese apps, and if you try to flash another rom your device would constantly be restarting itself.

I couldn't figure how to install google ?
After checking Aurora App setting WHAT?
Can you help me ?
I installed a gapps but Play services Stopped. @bomcoi1402
@IcyDevil_ can you translate FAQ section?
Edit: Thx for answers I will try again

10 cmt for upload picture

@ReTekno: do not install gApps. You can factory reset, then see pictures and do it.

Are you sure we installed the same ROM? As far as I can see, the only Chinese app installed is the ROM settings, no others. Not quite sure about the flashing another ROM part, but have you done a full wipe before flashing? Dirty flashing may cause issues sometimes so it's not recommended to dirty flash.

@ReTekno, have translated the FAQ section. Do take a look to see if it solves your issue.

Guys, how can I remove chinese text on the control panel ?

Yes i installed the same ROM, i did a full wipe and i still have random restarts. Thanks to this ROM i can't use my phone anymore. I'll see if i'll manage to get it working eventually.

You can try it.
Only one problem, this is don't push notification of Facebook, Messenger, Zalo.
I still don't know how to fix it.

You can easily fix it by uninstalling the brevent app
Brevent prevents apps from running in background that is why when your screen is off you wont get any push notifications

Sadly i don't think there is a solution, I tried everything, factory reset, full wipe, re-root, nothing works, still getting random restarts, and the worse is happening whenever i try to update or install any apps, either from play store or from galaxy apps. Thanks to this crap, i now have an unusable brick of a note7.

And who asked you to do this? It looks a lot like a personal problem to me. I am running the other Chinese Oreo ROM for a long time with no problems. Tried this one too and it was good, but I just didn't want to fix all the Chinese again. I might try the Aurora kernel when I have the time.
I really suggest you study all the information available on this forum before you share nothing but frustrated rants. BTW, I can't see a way how you can brick this phone permanently. In the worst of all cases there is always Odin.

What made you think i have a personal problem or that this simply is a frustrated rant? I simply told my experience in trying this ROM, and apparently i'm not the only one having issues with it. Due to all the chinese apps, and various other issues, i simply didn't like this ROM, and when i tried to flash another ROM, i got the problems i mentioned. I've been installing ROM's on my various phones for many years now, i'm not a noob when it comes to rooting, ROM's and other custom things you can do to and android device. I tried ODIN aswell, and still no changes, so i simply voiced my opinion. Next time try to be less frustrated yourself, and less judgy.

Well, there is a long line of posts by you in this thread that are indicating that you should not have started using a device that has been withdrawn by the manufacturer.
BTW, I did not mean to say YOU have a problem (how would I know?). I simply wanted to say your problems should not be generalized as indicative of what can be done with this device.
I still don't see any reason why you can't flash back an older Android 7 version with Odin and have a flawless, Chinese free experience of this nice device until it dies. Again, the problems you are describing are related to your device or environment, not to the Note7 per se.
In fact, I would like to understand, how you initially overcame Samsung's blocking of the phone and how you proceeded since then. This would provide an indication what might have gone wrong. Your ranting does not.
And only so you understand, I am writing this on my Note7 with the Soul Vip11 Oreo ROM where I added my own mods to eliminate 99% of the Chinese crap and the pay wall. Once I 8did a TWRP backup and installed this ROM without any problem and played around with it for a while until I restored my old one, again no problem. There was no incentive for me to polish up this ROM and install all my apps again, would have been a total waste of time.
This should explain to you, that those Chinese ROMs might be a PITA, but they are also not intended for us Westerners. So if you can't handle them, simply don't go there.

Maybe you didn't understood what i wrote in my first post. What i said was that i installed this ROM, tried to use it, and due a lot of chinese apps, i couldn't get used to it, so i flashed the ROM i was using before, and that's when the problems began. Random restarts, device would freeze up. I did backup, full wipe, factory restore, re-did the entire root process, I even tried ODIN, without any luck. Before installing this ROM, my device worked flawlessly, It was rooted before installing this, with the Nougat Note FE ROM, no issues. So for me this ROM messed up my device in some way.

All I can say: Do a TWRP backup first if you want to experiment. Has been said on XDA thousands of times. And READ the OP fully before you jump into it.
And if I had your problem, I am quite sure I would fix it silently myself. You may have to format (not wipe). Also, a remaining SAMSUNG function in the bootloader may try to keep you from going back to NOUGAT, so as a last option you might have to live with one of the Chinese OREO ROMs before you figure out what to do.
In any case, the real experts (besides the Chinese) have all moved on. Nobody around anymore who would help you. And I obviously don't like your style... :silly:

Crashes (red LED, black screen, reboot) with running Xposed

Yesterday I couldn't hold it any longer and unlocked my bootloader. Then, I rooted, flashed Xposed and run some root apps.
Every now and then, my Z4T freezes and fully reboots (Sony Xperia logo). In between, the screen turns blank and the LED flashes red 4 times. Does this have any special meaning on Xperia devices? Overheating? Or just a generic crash?
/edit: I have the feeling it is a System UI crash in my case, which then causes a total system reboot. I think so because when I try to do a Soft Reboot, which is a System UI reinitialization (or a zygote reinit?), it will also fully reboot. Tried that with the Xposed Installer and (Material) Power Menu.
/edit2: It's probably not a System UI crash, but if it is, it's definitely Xposed related. Also, soft rebooting is broken on the Z4 Tablet, it'll result in a crash and a full reboot. Right now, there is a scenario in which Xposed causes either random reboots or reboots right after booting into Android after the 'optimizing apps' stage (after wiping Cacvhe/Dalvik after flashing Xposed). Uninstalling Xposed fixes these issues. Research is ongoing, if you have any experiences yourself, please share your findings.
Hi,
I don't have the answer to this unfortunately, but I have had exactly the same issue with the blinking red light and it happened after I installed Xposed too, a few funny things have happened since I rooted and flashed Xposed....
I also get the red light if I use soft reboot but its fine with a proper full reboot. I would be interested too if anyone knows the answer to this.

Is this with just Xposed and no active modules or apps that use root? Have you applied the Camera crash fix mentioned in the Xperia z4 tablet[root] and xposed thread?

Same here. So it looks like soft rebooting is definitely broken on the Z4T, so I think it could be the ROM or kernel. What are you running? I'm on latest stock ROM (CDA 1295-4711, Germany, Customized DE, 28.0.A.8.260 / R6A) and kernel is AndroPlus v10. Xposed is v79, SDK21, ARM64 (xposed-v79-sdk21-arm64.zip).
Right now my suspicion is on the app GMD Auto Hide Soft Keys root that casues a System UI crash...
Hey!
Had same issue, started about 3 weeks after unlocking, rooting and xposed out of nowhere ... reflashed Stock, rooted again and problem solved!
No more reboots even i set up my system ecxactly like before ...
Don´t know what was really causing the issue but reflashing helped me
Cheers

Thanks for the feedback. This seems like a common fix so I'll try that (after I have completed my Titanium backups). I should use Flashtool, right?

Yes, restored via Flashtool did the trick!
Downloaded the FW directly there and flashed it then rooted again with AndroPlus Kernel ....
Reboots startet after updating from V7 to V8 if i remember correctly ... when rooting then again i needet to start with V5 and updated then to V10 ... every higher Version than V5 gave me an error in ADB ....

That could have worked back then maybe, but the .260 firmware apparently needs v10. I just flashed v5 and my tablet didn't boot anymore. That got fixed though, phew.
I re-flashed .260 with Flashtool, reflashed the kernel, SuperSU and Xposed. I somehow had my apps still there, so I hope that's OK for this fix.
Let's see if it's stable now...

Everything ok so far now, yeah. I re-flashed with wiping everything and this time just rooted, no Xposed. So far, so good.

Hi Jelbo
Sorry I haven't replied sooner, haven't been on XDA for a few days! I wasn't aware of the camera fix, i'll check that out, thankyou. Aside from the camera not working, Audio settings and MusicFX have gone right up the wall, I had to freeze them because of all the FC messages popping up.....was driving me crazy in the end!
Yes I am also running the same ROM, Kernel and Xposed version that you have, and I also think that something with Xposed and the soft rebooting causes a System UI crash too, I don't know why I didn't mention it in my first reply to you as that was one of my suspicions, a soft reboot is a an unclean shutdown (I think?...) and the Z4 doesn't seem to like it!
I had some problems with Xposed modules too, I haven't got the GMD one installed but Gravitybox was the first one I installed straight away, I was really missing it without having root and aswell as numerous other modules I have installed I had the newest version of xStana running and everytime I went into the Recent apps either via softkey or BKB50 , I was getting a full system UI crash so I disabled gravitybox as I have navbar tweaks enabled....rebooted and still same issue, disabled xStana and all was fine again. So to my relief it wasn't Gravitybox and to fix the problem I installed the oldest version of Xstana and it has been working fine.
Also.....do you have or want viper4android FX installed? I just thought I'd ask because I cannot get it to work either Apk or ZiP install. I flashed the ZiP after no success with Apk and I was convinced I had bricked my beloved tablet after that, I couldn't get it to boot then it turned to bootloop and after nearly 2 days of trying alI I could think of I managed to rescue it by removing the ZiP via TWRP......I dont know if its SONY or Lollipop that causes problems but I have had things that won't play nicely it seems.....
EDIT: Sorry I just realised you asked if I had a problem with Xposed itself or wether it was with modules/apps that were active that were causing problems, I'm afraid I don't have the answer as I have had active modules as soon as I rooted and flashed Xposed.
My guess is that it is Xposed framework that is causing issues, I don't know if you have this too....but the system logs on my device have wall after wall of error code displayed in red and they nearly all mention Xposed, honestly I have never seen such a vast list that repeats over and again of errors, it made me think about uninstalling Xposed but I just can't live without it!!!

I don't think it's an 'unclean shutdown', as it reboots. I think a SystemUI crash has more or less the same effect as a soft (or hot) reboot. These should immediately show the boot animation, but on the Z4T they cause a full (or cold) reboot, beginning at the splash screens, showing the Sony and Android logo's.

I haven't installed Xposed yet on my fresh install. It's been running great so far with all kinds of root apps and tweaks. When I had the reboot problems I also had it with no Xposed modules active.
I'm very hesistant now to install Xposed, because of stories that the uninstall.zip didn't fix problems and that's the only rollback option since TWRP restore is broken.

Yes, like said running same setup as before the re-boots occurred. Root/Xposed/Same modules/ same apps, etc.
System was running w/o problems for about 3 weeks and out of nowhere came those re-boots. Didn´t update any app/module/etc. in this time only thing was the BK50 but i had it for about 10 days before it started acting weird so don´t know what was really causing the problems ....
Sometimes after seconds, sometimes after minutes, sometimes after hours ... out of nowhere black screen/Red light and reboot ...

I just flashed xposed-v79-sdk21-arm64.zip, after I was running great for a few days, rooted. Guess what? After the boot and when all the apps were 'optimized': black screen, red LED and a reboot. So, this issue is definitely caused by Xposed.. What I still don't understand is why it's working for @Mr. Schnabel. Guess something is different and the cause of my issue.
I just flashed xposed-uninstaller-20150831-arm64.zip, hopefully things will be stable again.
Anyone else running Xposed, but without issues?
/edit: seems like we're not alone in this. I'm currently searching older Xposed framework .zip's, these are somehow hard to find as the old versions are replaced with the new in the Xposed thread :S I want to try xposed-v78-sdk21-arm64.zip.
/edit2: Just tried it with xposed-v78-sdk21-arm64.zip (found on a flaky Chinese Baidu mirror) and this also resulted in a crash, very quickly after booting. I'll have to delve into how to get some logging on this so people can look into this.
/edit3: @dl12345 once compiled an unofficial v74 build that worked great on a Z3+, but a Sony ROM update killed compatibility. At least on the Z3+, according to @DHGE, who ran the unofficial v74 on his Z4 Tablet. I just read now last week he was running v78 on his Z4 Tablet, so I guess he is also running it without the rebooting issue on the latest .260 firmware...
@jelbo
typing this on my tablet:
all fine here with xposed v78, now on v79 - no random reboots
only Sony camera app is crashing, deodexing according to AndroPlus did not help. That could be a tablet issue.

All right. Just to be clear, this is with:
firmware 28.0.A.8.260 (mine is CDA 1295-4711, Germany, Customized DE, R6A)
AndroPlus Kernel v10
AndroPlus' TWRP 2.8.7.0
xposed-v79-sdk21-arm64.zip
No other, special things like disabling SELinux?
I really wonder what causes the difference here. I completely re-flashed the stock firmware a few days ago, including the kernel, recovery and Xposed. First thing that happened was the crash. So it couldn't have been any other 3rd party apps or Android settings.
I then redid everything, but did not install Xposed and things run fine. As soon as I flash Xposed (have tried v78 and v79) I get the crash. I do wipe cache and Dalvik cache after I have flashed Xposed. When I uninstall Xposed, the problem is gone.
I did not do the deodex trick for the camera app this time, but that would not bother me anyway, I don't use the camera.
Do you have any idea? Life without Xposed is hard.
Here are some logs, one from a normal boot without Xposed, two with Xposed v79 flashed; an initial boot and a second boot, both of where the device crashed and rebooted.
I also filed a report on rovo89's Xposed GitHub.
From similar Sony Xposed issues I have the feeling that some of my odex files are corrupted (which ship on several Sony ROMs) and that people who are running Xposed on a Z4T just fine are running a slightly different build than me (e.g. a non German one), in which these files are OK.

All right. Just to be clear, this is with:
firmware 28.0.A.8.260 (mine is CDA 1295-4711, Germany, Customized DE, R6A)
AndroPlus Kernel v10
AndroPlus' TWRP 2.8.7.0
xposed-v79-sdk21-arm64.zip
No other, special things like disabling SELinux?
Do you have any idea? Life without Xposed is hard.

I do not know the exact numbers of the german ROM but since I got it via XperiFirm we should have the same version.
SELinux is enforcing.
I have deactivated lots of bloatware like VideoEditor, Google apps, myxperia...
I have disabled all autostarts of apps via Xprivacy (or Titanium Backup?) that I deemed unnecessary/nosy.

Thanks. More or less the same here. I disabled or froze a lot of system apps using Titanium Backup and My Android Tools Pro, based on this Xperia LP 5.x debloat script. I did miss a few, because they were not listed and I don't know what they do, so maybe one of those that is still running is the culprit here. Rather difficult to compare between you and me.
Here's the Xperifirm list as of now, by the way. Maybe I'll try the US variant.

Hi,
I just can confirm that soft reboot doesn't work. (Without Xposed installed)
Sony Xperia Z4 SGP771
Androplus Kernel V10
Twrp 2.8.7.0
SuperSu 2.46
28.0.A.8.260/R10A Customized FR
I tried xposed-v79-sdk21-arm64.zip (three modules loaded: greenify,3c toolbox pro,Ownorientation) two weeks ago and my only problem (I think) was the Sony camera app stop working, so reflash stock rom, androplus, twrp,SuperSu and restore UserData via twrp did the job.
I try to install xposed and the deodexed trick for the sony camera app next weekend if i'm not busy.

Have TWRP software but don't know how to use it

I have a Samsung Galaxy S III that I purchased on eBay. It have TWRP on it, and I know absolutely nothing about it except how to open it and get back to the phone. I'm looking for someone who can be patient enough to answer questions and give advice
Ok, to help you with this, in case you haven't fully understood TWRP yet.
It is a very powerful tool that has many features. It can create(backup button in TWRP) and restore(restore button in TWRP) backups(most important feature), it can save those backups to whatever storage location you choose, you have to find the option and select where you want the backup to be stored. You can also choose to backup other partitions along with the default partitions.
It can install(Install button in TWRP) various recovery flashable .zip files including ROMs, Kernels, Modems, newer recoveries, and various other mods/tweaks such as the Xposed framework. It can flash .img files also, provided those .img files are for your device.
It has the ability to wipe(format) the various partitions on the device to clear all data in the selected partition(s), these include the normal wipes when flashing ROMs and such, To do the normal wipes, select the Wipe option in TWRP, you'll see at the top it says Factory reset/wipe data, wipe cache partition and wipe dalvik/ART cache(newer ROM and recoveries use ART, dalvik is older stuff(swipe the slider to wipe). In addition to the normal wipes there are the advanced wipes(select Wipe option, then select Advanced Wipe), typically the advanced wipes are only used when doing a "clean install", it is used to wipe only the System partition and the Data partition to clear any junk that might cause issues with a new ROM you want to use, some ROMs even require a system wipe/clean install to use the ROM. You must be careful when using advanced wipes, if you wipe the wrong thing you'll be screwed. To be safe, only wipe System, Data, Cache, Dalvik/ART, and maybe internal storage(this erases everything you have on internal such as pictures, other media and other downloaded content). Also, when you wipe system partition it removes your OS completely and will have to be flashed with a ROM before rebooting, if you reboot without flashing you'll have nothing to boot to and in some cases it is difficult to revive the device.
It has a file manager that you can use to browse through the folders and files on your device while in recovery.
It can be used to connect the device to ADB where you can do all manner of things with the device. ADB can be used to boot the device to whatever mode you want, it can be used to push or pull files to and from the device, it can be used to capture logcats from the device that give technical live data of what the device is doing below all the layers of software to pinpoint bugs and issues. ADB is used to flash .img files to the device and even pull .imgs from the device using the dd command line, it has many, many things it can do, its all pretty advanced though.
There are other minor, rarely used features as well such as fix permissions, mount and unmount various partitions, etc. You can learn all of them by googling the various features to find descriptions of them.
If you have questions, just ask.
Where were you 4 months ago lol. I searched and begged and googled this with no answers. I didn't know anything about ROMs or kernals or recovery until this phone wanted to update. I followed the instructions and found myself in TWRP and thought my phone had been infected with a virus. That was around October 2015. It took me months more to find XDA, months more to figure out where to post a question, and months more to get information. I manged to flash the MOAR rom in July, but didn't see that it was from 2012, so the developer won't answer any questions I have. I couldn't figure out how to restore what I had before and subsequently deleted the files from my exSd.
My frustration is that I didn't get into this because I was interested in it or knew about the workings of operating systems and wanted to make my phone awesome. I thought I had to in order to make it work right. I was seduced by ideas of having an awesome phone when I read about custom ROMs while trying to find one. The problem is, I don't understand the power I have in order to use it.
Sorry to ramble. I do thank you for your information. I also welcome ( beg for) any help or suggestions about what works with what devices.
Thank you again

You should be able to flash any of the sprint S3(d2spr) ROMs, recoveries, kernels and mods for d2spr and of course the general mods that can be used by virtually any device such as the Xposed framework for ARMv7 devices. I have an S3 that uses the (d2vzw) stuff so I can help you a lot with your S3.
Actually all of the US variant S3(d2vzw, d2spr, d2att, d2usc, d2tmo, etc..)devices can use the d2lte ROMs, on top of that, the d2 devices can all flash each others ROMs without harming the device, they just won't have signal or buttons will be backwards and little things like that, the S3 ROMs can easily be converted from one device to another, the d2 devices are 95% the same.
You could easily flash the newest TWRP and then choose a d2spr lollipop or marshmallow ROM from the Sprint S3 forum as these are the most up to date and readily available ROMs, there's very little support for Kit Kat and older stuff.
And of course, you could always go back to full stock with no root or TWRP if you just want the device to work and would rather avoid all of this custom stuff and its complexities.
For that you just need to do a google search for:
"Return to stock (your model number)"
Or you can go to Sammobile .com or samsung-updates .com and use your model number to find the stock firmware for your device, download it then download the newest version of Odin and install it on PC then boot your phone to download mode(volume down+home+power, press up at the caution screen to enter download mode), connect to Odin, if you get a blue or yellow comm# box you're connected. Click the AP button then browse to your stock firmware .tar.md5 file, select it, back in Odin click start and it will flash the device and reboot into the restored stock firmware, sometimes it bootloops and you have to boot to stock recovery(volume up+home+power) then factory reset and wipe cache in stock recovery then reboot.
I can help you any direction you want to go, just say the word and I'll get you there. Do you want custom or stock? If you want custom, do you want Kit Kat(4.4.x) lollipop(5.x)or marshmallow(6.x), maybe even a Nougat(7.0) ROM?

Wow, you are my hero! I don't know how to thank you enough.
First off, I promise I have put in lots of work on my own trying to find answers. Also, I may be underestimating my own understanding.
As far as ROMs, I haven't worked this hard to give up now! Not only do I want custom, I want to know what kernel does, what a governor does, what mods are. I think everyone else thought I wanted to be told what system to install while I only wanted to be educated so I could decide for myself. Basically, I'm asking for a teacher

Here, may I suggest the ROM linked below?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3033797
This is OctOS Marshmallow, OctOS is pretty much the most stable custom available, they don't try to cram it full of every feature they can, it isn't featureless, its just that their focus is stability and not the bells and whistles. I've used OctOS on my d2vzw S3 for 2 years without a single issue. In fact, I've liked the ROM so much I joined the OctOS team as a beta tester(kinda pointless because even the test builds are rock solid, takes the fun out of testing). I've even built a system for one of the developers on the team to use for developing ROMs. Anyway, that's all unimportant.
Try the ROM, I think you'll like it. It requires using the advanced wipes in recovery to wipe System and Data partitions before flashing the ROM to do a "clean install". I'll help you with that if you need it. I hope you enjoy.

Kernels are what integrate your hardware with your software, the kernel is what loads all the software that is installed and the kernel has to be made to work with your specific hardware.
Custom kernels can be used to do things like overclock your processor and your graphics processor to increase performance. Governors do just that, they govern how your processor responds to your usage, such as you can set it to run full speed at all times or you can set it to only respond with full speed when you need it. There are different governors and they each perform differently, it just depends on which ones were included in the kernel. I could explain it all but you wouldn't understand it until you've used it a while and gotten the feel for what they do. There are other things you can do with kernels but its pretty technical and you'll probably never use/need most of what it does. The OctOS ROM actually comes with its own Kraken kernel and the Kernel Auditor app built in. Other ROMs don't have their own kernel, they typically use the stock CM kernel. There are also other stand alone kernels for d2spr that you could use, you just have to verify which kernels work with which ROMs(kit kat kernel for kit Kat ROMs, lollipop kernel for lollipop, etc..., some kernels can be used with kit kat, lollipop and marshmallow, you just have to read about each kernel to see what they work with).
Mods are modifications, not all devices can use all mods, mods can be all kinds of things major and minor. A mod can be absolutely any part of a ROM that someone modifies for whatever reason. There isn't any one thing I can put my finger on and say "this is a mod" that would help you understand what they are. Just know that there are mods that only work on specific devices and mods that can be used by many or even all devices, you just have to know which are which.
By the way, I figured you'd stay with custom, everyone does when they get bitten by the android bug, lol.
Thank you. My dilemma in finding one is that I read where you need a certain firmware or modem. How do I know if I need it? I looked at the section in my phone that I sent the pic of. Where is the information I need, and how do I know if I can install something?

I don't know of the d2spr devices requiring flashing a modem. Can you give me a link to see what you're talking about? If not I'll see if I can find what you're talking about. Or I might get in private chat with the d2spr guys on the OctOS team to see if they know.
You do know that there is a d2spr device and the d2spr refresh device, don't you? You can't use the d2spr refresh stuff, that's a different variant. I think it is the one with the certain modem because it is a tri band device I think.

I just want to be sure I'm doing the right thing. I went to the link you sent and clicked the link for "stable", then "Samsung", then s3 lte, then sprint gs3. I assume that since you have my current phone information to know what I'm running, you gave me something that is compatible and doesn't need me to modify any of my current settings in order to install, but I'm just double checking. Also, how important is gapps if I use titanium to backup any apps I want to carry over? I've never downloaded gapps before a wipe

I flashed this and the screen flashed the whole time with the TWRP screen and the file images over it. I could see an "ok" option and pressed it. When I went to reboot, TWRP said there was no os installed, so I went back and wiped and reinstalled MOAR. Now I can't install titanium. I get some kind of error. Did I lose root?

The file may have its own md5 sum attached to it instead of a separate md5.
As for the issue with Titanium Backup, you don't need root to install it but you do need root to restore the stuff you backed up in Titanium Backup.
When I asked about what you flashed, I was asking for links to what you used so I could go there to where you got it and see if its for your device or not and what might need to be done with it to make sure it comes out right, in other words, I'll check to see if requires the modem you spoke of.
If you think you lost root, download SuperSU.zip and flash that in recovery like you did the ROM and you should have root.
When I ask you questions I need the answer, not partial responses. If you don't give me the answers I need about exactly what you're using and what you're doing, it makes understanding any issues you might have a little harder to understand and troubleshoot. Work with me and I'll work with you.

That screenshot you gave me is not a ROM. That is a flashable zip to fix your APNs so you that your mobile data works.
This should be your ROM.
https://www.teamoctos.com/download/M_release/d2spr/OCT-M-R2-6.0.1-20160812-d2spr.zip
For the gapps you'll need, do a google search for:
Open Gapps
When you get to their page, select ARM(not ARMx64), then select 6.0, then select mini, pico or nano packages then download.
You have to flash the Gapps with your ROM, they are system apps, apps you install aren't system app, they're user apps, different animal. When flashing a ROM different than what you have you can't use Titanium Backup to back up system apps because they won't restore properly in your new ROM, especially when going from one android version to another.
Flash the Gapps and then only restore apps that you downloaded from Playstore.
The link I gave you was to the thread for your ROM, it should the info you need to know to flash it.
By the way, when you flashed and it said you had no OS, that's because of the advanced wipe when you wiped system partition in recovery, I told you that it removes your OS and that you'll have to flash the ROM AFTER doing the wipe, you can't flash and then do the wipe, that wipes what you flashed.

This should be your ROM.

Yes I wiped, then flashed. This is the path I took that got me to what I flashed
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3033797.
On the first page in the thread, I found a link that said it was stable and followed it for my phone.
I only backup user apps to titanium because I did read that system apps can cause problems when carried over to a different rom. Sorry about the lack of information.

OK, I'll check out some details and see what might have happened when you flashed. Doing the wipes a d then flashing ROM then Gapps should have worked with no issue, let me do some digging to see why it didn't.

Ok, I'm chatting with my OctOS colleagues, some of them have had d2spr, hopefully they remember whether there is anything special you need to do. I have helped others with d2spr but its been a year or more so I don't remember details.

Hey how's it goin' guys! This is my first ever ROM I built, so here it is! Introducing AeroROM!
DISCLAIMER: You should bear in mind that flashing this Custom ROM will void your warranty. Therefore, I am not in any way responsible for any damages (Bricks, Fried Accessories, etc.) that may occur from performing these modifications. You are choosing to do this, it's not me forcing you to flash this ROM, lol
FEATURES
Systemless Root w/ SuperSU (Which is why you don't see "KERNEL IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING" at boot)
Built In BusyBox
Killed Knox
Obliterated all unnecessary Samsung bloat
DeOdexed apps
DPI Tweak for more screen real-estate
More under-the-hood build.prop tweaks for improved overall performance
Minimal AeroROM breathing boot animation so it doesn't attack your eyes
Lightweight, Fluid, and Snappy
INCLUDED APPS
Viper4Android FX | A feature-packed EQ app For an enhanced audio experience
Nova Launcher | One of the most widely used launchers
ES File Explorer | An advanced file explorer app, includes root browsing
UC Mini | A reliable web browser
SuperSU | Root management
(New with v1.1) AdAway | Blocks Ads
COMPATIBLE DEVICES
Samsung Galaxy Core Prime MetroPCS variant (SM-G360T1)
And *possibly* the T-Mobile variant (SM-G360T), I do not own it so I would definitely appreciate someone confirming that for me.
INSTALLATION
1 Make sure you have the right device, if you do then you may proceed.
2 Install Root and TWRP if you haven't already
3 Copy the ROM and GApps .zip files to your Internal SDCard
4 Now this is the fun part, lol. Reboot into your recovery, swipe to allow modifications if you haven't already. Then perform a factory reset by wiping the Data, Dalvik/ART Cache, Cache, and System. Once that's out of the way, flash the ROM itself first, then the GApps package.
5 Hit Reboot. Then STOP RIGHT THERE! Once the part that says SuperSU doesn't appear to be installed, hit the Do Not Install button. SuperSU does come with this ROM, it's just the method of installation.
6 Proceed with rebooting, and give it a couple of minutes. It takes this long to boot because of the DeOdexed nature of the ROM, but don't worry, this only happens once!
7 Now it's all yours to enjoy!
You can use either TWRP 2.8.70 or 3.0.1, they both work well in flashing this ROM
GAPPS
To keep a minimal file size, GApps were removed as part of the debloat process. You can get some really good GApps packages from Opengapps.org. Be sure to choose ARM as the Platform, 5.1 as the Android Version, then the GApps flavor is all up to you!

EXTRAS
Get the newest emojis on your device!
Samsung's firmware for this phone in particular comes with a set of outdated emojis that may interfere with how you see various emojis, new and old, that may be on your screen. Some new emojis come as black boxes, which isn't really good. Therefore, I'll walk you guys through updating the emojis on this ROM (or whatever ROM you may be using on this device)
Prerequisites: Any root explorer app and root access.
1: Choose your emoji flavor. Some of them are...
EmojiOne (Select emojione-android.ttf)
Android Oreo
You are not limited to these options!
Now, make sure the emoji file you downloaded is a font file (.ttf) and rename it to NotoColorEmoji (That should already be the case if you downloaded the Android Oreo emojis)
Head into system/fonts and back up the existing NotoColorEmoji to somewhere else. Then go back to the new emojis you just downloaded, and move that over to system/fonts.
Lastly, set the permissions of the font file to rw-r-r so the system can detect the new set of emojis. This is important, otherwise it won't work.
Now restart your device, and boom, enjoy your brand new emojis! Use with Gboard for best results.

I will try it when I have time however I can say rather confidently that this will work on the SM-G360T. The two phones are exactly the same with different branding.

35 Minutes, and still only see AEROROM. Vibrations occur every few seconds, like 15s. Tried first without wiping DATA, and then was taking excruciatingly long, so I went back and wiped everything twice, and then re installed without GAPPS, and 35 minutes so far. Will report any further changes. BUt honestly, this phone bootloops for literally nothing mostly. Haven't had such an unstable Samsung device ever. Kinda hate this phone now, always fixing, never can get calls or anything. Bout to just toss it in the trash. I appreciate the work you've done op, thank you. I've been looking, but is there anyway to port Resurrection Remix 5.7.4 from the 360h over to this phone, It's my personal favorite rom, and on every device since it dropped. I dont mind spending a few hours trying, but I can't build it from source.

That's not good, I think I gotta take this down if it isn't very stable. Weird though, I flashed it on my G360T1 and it booted up just fine. If a few more people report instability in this ROM then I'm taking it down, I've given up hope, CM or lineage won't be built for it at all, I doubt it'll happen at all.
But yeah what I would do is wipe every single thing including internal storage, then turn the phone off, flash stock firmware via Odin, and it should be able to fix things up

Went go take a bath, and phone is still on AEROROM, slowly fading in and out. I'm going to put stock and try from there. I'd really like a different rom other than SLIM PICKINS. Effing gravitybox causes bootloop, can't theme it black like every other device, even though I do a bit of **** for TBO, but not offically, I just want evrything to be black, but everything I try crashes and bootloops. Good thing I got this phone for free from a repair job. I appreciate your working on a new rom though, hopefully I can get it to work. I'll see if I could pull a logcat for you. Someone needs to dev a phone emulator so people like us could test on devices. I was all excited to see this, so I'll blow through a few hours, and anything I can devise from it, I'll post for you. Maybe together something might happen. I'd hate to see you have to pull it.:crying:
EDIT: Does the versions of twrp that are available work well on your device? Any twrp3 I put, the touch refuses to work. So I'm stuck on 2.8.7.0. blows dogs for quarters...

I'm not necessarily developing a totally AOSP-based ROM as this is a totally different case for me, but I'm getting used to making these stock-firmware based ROMs
And the twrp 3.0.1 I used was made by another dev, not downloaded from the official twrp site so I can give you the link to it if you're interested:

What's really stupid is that it's 2017, it's been rooted, and there still hasn't been any AOSP ROMs such as Lineage or MiUI made for it yet. Like, has this phone been abandoned?

Dude, thank you. I had already visited and downloaded that one, but it never worked, until last night. OK, so I tried multiple things, wiped every single partition clean, installed stock, (and didn't on the 2nd try) and tried using my own boot.img, and multiple other files, ended up falling asleep with phone in hand, Woke up to still AEROROM fading in and out.
I have a few jobs (I do pc, cell phone repair) and then gotta go sight in a rifle for my cousin today, so I won't be back and able to continue testing today. So sorry I cannot help further for the day.
I have a favor to ask, although technically, you've done a eff-ton for me by the twrp3 thing, but I would completely understand if you don't have time, or would rather not. You know the themes for twrp, fichl's flashable? If you know them, there's a multitude of colors, and bird333's darker purple theme, is my ****, ya knoso if you could possibly get me a flashable version of your bootanimation of AEROROM, (esp with the O with the slash, as that's how I write mine irl) in that color, I would be frigging ecstatic. And I feel like an ass, but if you would do that, I have a very small request to add to that, if you could possibly add my logo to the bottomof the bootanimation, I would flip out. I custom the **** out of everythingbut have yet to work on sammys, so it would be a massive learning curve for something so "simple" and I only ask because you technically have all the resources available to do so. If it's too much trouble, No problem, I totally totally, understand, but grateful is not strong enough of a word to express how I would feel. It's not that I want to "take" your work, it's just that it's an extra thing that gets people wanting me to do those type of things for them, since I'm unemployed, trying to start a small busisness, but I'm a total recluse, so pimped out phone is a great convo starter for me. Geez, Ik I'm rambling, but just woke up. I'll attach my emblem which is just the matrix font, on a matrix bgrnd, of XIIIMACHINE, because I'm not artistic. Sorry to type your, or rather everyone's head off here. sorry! Hopefully, this Rom can get sorted out, and as soon as I get home tonight, I will jump on it, give a hand wherever possible.
Thank you very much for your work, and effort. Keep it up.

GApps error after installing custom ROM

So I have got this Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 3G 10.1" that has been lying in a cupboard for a around a year, mainly because I've been busy Now there's a family member of mine who would really need a tablet so I thought this one would be perfect for her!
From thinking I went on to doing and started with getting rid of the stock software and installing some nice custom ROM.
As I found out i couldn't use USB (probably busted data-cable), I rooted the tab using KingRoot and went on installing CWM recovery. Afterwards long story short: I've tried both CWM and TWRP, different ROM and android versions (Lineage, CM, Slim etc.) and different GApps packages from different developers but the problem still seems to come up :crying:
The problem itself is that when I've installed any of the above mentioned ROMs, all the GApps seem to not have been installed correctly (even though the installation process in recovery went smoothly) and basically none of them works (notifications saying that any GApp has stopped keep on coming up and I can't find any Google app in the menu except something things like "com.google.android..." or "com.android.vending...") otherwise everything seems perfectly fine.
Maybe there are others here experiencing the same issue or there's someone who knows how to fix this here, any help will be very appreciated :good:
Hello,
First, have you checked that the ROM you flashed was fully compatible with your device? Yes, this is obvious, but I have to ask.
Second, I'm not a ROM flashing via custom recovery fan... The best way to efficiently flash a ROM in my opinion is Odin-Download mode but whatever (your USB port is screwed, so pfu.)
Redownloading apps doesn't work for you? (updating the apk may fix that!)

Yes, I do have used ROMs compatible with my device as they've all are made for espresso3g (which is my device).
I know it's not really the best way but I'll keep on trying with custom recovery for some more time and then perhaps try buying a new cable, and see if that works.
Tried installing Google Play Store from APK both on a clean ROM without GApps and with, but it still doesn't run and keeps on saying that either Google Play Store or "com.google.process.gapps" has stopped.
Alright...
I'm out of idea x/

Hello...!
You could try the following....
1. make absolutely sure you are using the correct version of gapps for the custom rom you are currently using. If your custom rom is on android 6, you need gapps for android 6 for example.
2. after flashing gapps wipe cache/dalvik and make a factory reset BEFORE exiting twrp. You will lose personal data but since you are preparing to give the device to somebody else that should not be much of a concern.
Let me know if it helps, if it does not, I might be able to try and provide additional suggestions.
Good luck!

Hi and thanks for your reply!
1. The ROMs I've been trying to install are all android 6.0.1 and I've been trying with different OpenGApps packages for the 6.0 version which should work (except CM 12 which is android 5.1 with which I've tried OpenGApps and A-Gapps for Android 5.1).
2. Tried that with 3 different ROMs today and the results are following: Slimrom gets stuck in setupwizard which doesn't start, CM 12 starts but the same error as first seems to appear (I get notifications about GApps which stop working) and Lineage bootloops the lineage start screen.

Ok...
This is what I would do if it was my device and I was facing what you are describing. It might take some time and a little patience to do everything described here, but it might also work.
1. Usin Odin, flash latest available official rom for the device. Let it boot and complete setup.
2. Use odin and use CF autoroot to root. Again boot and complete setup.
3. Flash Twrp. Enter Twrp and flash latest flashable supersu.zip. At this time I believe is version 2.82. Again boot and let it reach your welcome screen.
4. Enter Twrp. Enter advanced wipe. Wipe everything except external SD and usb at least 3 times. Do not exit twrp.
5. Install you rom. Do not exit Twrp.
6. After installing your rom, Twrp will ask you if you want to wipe cache/dalvik. "Yes" but DO NOT reboot.
7. Install correct version of gapps for your custom rom (correct both android version and architecture version). Again twrp will ask you to wipe cache/dalvik. "Yes" and this time reboot.
See what happens. If it gets stuck, try entering twrp again and do a factory reset only, only once and reboot again.
If that fails again... I will at a loss here myself too...
I did a quick search here on xda on P5100, I am providing some links that you can take a look at. You probably already searched yourself but you never know...

If nothing else helps, perhaps the best way to go around this would be to find a custom rom with at least some google apps pre-installed, in order to save you the trouble you are currently facing.

far as i can tell, everything works except my mic. probably something i did but you might wanna test it after first install. I mostly text so its not a huge issue for me honestly. and i use a bluetooth headset most of the time
UPDATE: fresh installed again and mic is working. must had just been a bug.
I use adaptive storage on my SD card and having issues running apps on the phone I have to switch the location for the apps to work
How to put TWRP on this custom?

I make this comment assuming that you already have installed factory image and flashed the copy-partition-ab.zip previous to doing anything I say here. I only say that because I wouldn't want you to brick. If you have already done all that then just flash rom and reboot system like it says in the op. Then boot recovery again: fastboot boot twrp.img and install your gapps, magisk, recovery installer zip or whatever because if you try and flash it ALL at once it may not boot. Also as the op says after you install the rom and reboot system your phone may boot into recovery (stock) and prompt you to factory reset. If so select yes and do it otherwise it will not boot. I use a USB stick and keep things on it for my phones just in case. Makes it so much easier!
If you're already using havoc just: sudo fastboot boot twrp.img Then in twrp flash twrp installer zip from twrp site and reboot system.
You should be good then and twrp should then be installed. If it freezes up on you (if touch screen quits working) just boot back into bootloader manually (holding volume down+ power buttons) and boot recovery again through fastboot again... If touch quits working on recovery it will eventually work again, always has for me, but that's what I did and it worked. I actually don't even install recovery now I just use fastboot to boot twrp (or orange fox recovery) when I need to and I don't pull fancy stuff when I'm nowhere near my house. lol. Seems like twrp works better and has no freezes if I don't install it but it does freeze up when I have installed it in the past.. ? Also if you aren't already a member of the Moto G7 Power telegram group definitely check that out. But I recommended using a free app to get another phone # to use for making telegram account because if you use your real one they will spam the ______ outa you! The app named Text Free worked for me for that and telegram accepted the VoIP #..
@Electimon You're awesome! Really appreciate your time spent on this!! Does Havoc have signature spoofing? Seems like i read that somewhere about Havoc having it.. Soon as I make this post I'll check and also see if the patch got updated here on xda for 10/Q to add spoofing if its not. If I find a way to make it spoof if its not spoofing I'll report back. ?? Thanks again!!! :good:
Yes It does

I wound up going back to latest stock I have nothing but bricks and softbricks anytime i flash twrp permanently on all roms I really wanted to try this also I guess ill wait a lil til things are more stable but i bookmarked the page I think its cause its a/b device so i mean the first thing I flash is the A/b retention zip then i flash the I try to boot to roms and they just send me back to recovery or will show logos for bit before freezing and bootlooping but the link you sent is first time ive seen it say flash roms to both a and b, amd twrp, what about gapps and magisk would they also need to be flashed to both a and b? I am guessing that is why I keep having issues I just figured id ask before I try this again I had thought th ab retention files made it where all things flashed would go to a and b on their own after flashing that but that appears to not be the case I wish I could find step by step instructions for flashing a rom to these ab devices I really want to try something beside stock but I have had nohing but probs last time i got lucky found a single command that put phone in edl mode no other way worked that I had found wish I had not been a bonehead and saved that command because it makes the blank flash work perfectly and was how i finallly revived my device.
I did all the steps and my g7 power is in hardbrick, model XT1955-2

I'm not sure whats up but the place to read up and learn or should I say another place to learn is telegram group for G7 power. I go read backwards there from most recent comment up for hours sometimes. I used to immediately rip my phones out the box when I got em and unlock bootloader and flash a Aosp rom but I've learned through killing a few to read everything I can first for a few weeks then operate. I was lucky to bring this one back all the times thanks to blank flash and the guys telling he keep trying it. I believe its all about the USB cable and having steady communication on the blank flash. I have no issues installing recovery but when i have it locks up on me so I just boot it when I need to and works good.

I have a 1955 5 aka metro by tmobile g7 power and ever since I joined the Moto G7 power telegram group and learned about how to do things I've not bricked but when this phone came out I immediately grabbed it on day 2 and hard bricked it and bricked it a few more times and brought it back every time using blank flash. Sometimes it took a while to get the blank flash to run atw through but eventually it did and I was able to boot to bootloader and fastboot factory image.. if you aren't already on telegram group it has a TON of information and everyone is really cool and helpful. Best group I've ever been around! The group is @mg7Power

Try installing everything without a micro SD card I. It was culprit that gave me hours and hours of troubke
I'm interested in this rom to run as a daily driver, have the VoLTE issues been resolved?

I sent my smartphone to the technical service because no method of his group served me, I will never root again, install rom, or twrp. To any smartphone that has a / b partitions, my moto x play has not given me headaches like this g7 power.
THANKS

I felt same at first. And not all A/B partitioned phones are like this one. My Pixel XL is A/B and I musta flashed it thousands of times and never bricked. I think with this forum there are a few different models of the same device and it can be confusing AF. Or the fact that my phone is a Metro G7 Power and it uses RETUS, retail US firmware and won't flash the metro firmware. I tried more than once early on. My other device is a xiaomi mi mix 2 I purchased off swappa a while back for $140 and it's a Aonly 64 bit device and flashes just like the last 39 or so phones and tablets I owned in the past. Maybe look at A only devices. There are tons of them. For some reason it took me a while to fully understand the whole A/B partitioning deal even though I read everything known to man on it here and other places. I've had to figure things out a few times through trial and error just because what seems to work for others doesn't for me. As soon as I get a tripod I'm going to throw some videos up on YouTube of how I install roms and flash firmware and things like that. I believe the big thing for this device that throws some people off is the different models idk... I hear you though. I bet money that maybe not all but most people who didn't get the blank flash to work didn't do it enough. It's a tedious mission. While im grateful that we have the blank flashes I'm definitely not trying to do it all again because it was a very long process for me every time I did it. Lol.
