[9.0|PIE][SEMI-GSI]Pixel Experience 9.0 [NOTE9/S9/S9+][10.12] - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 (Exynos) ROMs, Kernels, Reco

This is more or less a copy-paste from the same thread over the s9 section but whatevs. I thought you guys would like this too.
Pixel Experience ROM for the NOTE 9
What is this?
Pixel Experience is an AOSP based ROM, with Google apps included and all Pixel goodies (launcher, wallpapers, icons, fonts, bootanimation)
Our mission is to offer the maximum possible stability and security, along with essential features for the proper functioning of the device
Based on Android 9.0

Semi-GSI? what's that?
a semi-gsi (at least by my own definition) is a gsi built from source, with heavy patches intended for a specific device that wouldn't make the gsi necessarily as universal as a gsi should be. so in terms: don't flash this on other devices.
How does this differ from any other gsis out there/what are the features?
Well this includes a number of fixes including:
Dual speakers are working.
Ui lag is no more (at least 99.99%).
Aod is working/enabled.
Auto brightness is kinda working.
MTP is working
Other performance fixes and improvments.
What's working/not working?
First up:
Obviously Samsung's own features such as Samsung Pay, KNOX, Theme Center, Game Launcher, etc. won't be ported to LineageOS Pixel Experience. We may have our own implementation to similar functions, though.
Iris sensor does not work because AOSP upstream does not support that yet.
IMS services (VoLTE, VoWiFi, etc). Samsung has their own proprietary implementation. It is not really possible to easily port that to LineageOS PixelExperience.

2ndly the semi-gsi has a few quirks of it's own. Nothing major or worth noting but you should check the "anything else i should know?" part in the FAQ. hence why HWC is broken
Instructions:
Make sure TWRP has been installed and functional.
Download the latest build image and kernel linked below
Reboot to recovery
Wipe system, data and cache from the wipe menu
Select flash image in twrp, lower right side on the install menu
Flash the rom image as system (and gapps). DONT flash gapps. they are already included in the rom.
Flash the kernel image corresponding to your model as boot
Reboot and enjoy :victory:

You are more than welcome to provide any kind of feedback here.

For note 9 more specifically i hang around here too
Changelog:
12.10.2018:
Initial release Boi
Troubleshooting/FAQ:
Q:Can i use any other kernels with this gsi?
A:Nah, not really. I built this kernel specifically to work with this gsi and it includes a few major fixes (for example mtp won't work, major ui lag, no dual speakers etc if you switch to another kernel. But again. If you want to use other kernels, they should* boot. Endurance kernel even has my dual speaker patch and i confirm as working. But again expect bugs.
Q: Is there anything else i should know?
A: Ehhhhhhh, not really. I mean there are some stuff i'm really not proud of,for example to "fix" the ui lag i had to set the minimum gpu frequency to 455; this shouldn't create any issues(perhaps some battery drainage when screen is on) but afaik it doesn't impact sleep or anything else.
Q:Would this be preferred over a device specific rom?
A: Overall nah. The reason i didn't set on building device specific los16.....well actually i did and failed. But this is a pretty good placeholder until someone more skilled than me takes over and creates pie device trees.
Q: Safetynet doesn't pass?
A: Yeah, i guess that's a thing. Go into magisk and download some module called props hide or something. Don't forget to run it from terminal. It should work from there
Q: The rom isn't booting/camera doesn't work
A: Flash/make sure you have the BRI4 vendor, the linked kernel and try again.
Q: The rom is in a bootloop/google apps keep crashing
A: You did read the instructions and NOT flash any gapps riighhttt?? smh, wipe /system,/data and /cache and start over
Q: I have another bug; How can i tell it to you while slightly increasing my changes of it ever getting fixed.
A: You can tell me what's going on either here or on telegram WITH A LOGCAT attached(required);if rom isn't booting at all attach /proc/last_kmsg.
Q: I don't know what/how to logcat. Is it really necessary?
A: Logcat or gtfo
Q: How can i support you?
A: Awwww thanks; On most of my posts on the left side there's a "donate to me" paypal button; You can use that, donations are more than welcome, or if you don't have any $ to spare you can also post here about how awesome i am (this surprisingly helps very much)

Wonder if this Kernal image will work with other GSI roms to get them running as smooth as this rom.

Is it possible to add S Pen support in the future? I mean, that's one big reason why people buy the Note 9 rather than the S9+

Spen does work as a pointer and to tap and even draw..
The spen button does nothing though. And obviously, the spen settings and apps are all Samsung made so they won't be working here. Highly doubt Spen would work ever on aosp like stock due to Samsung apps incompatibility

Spen went work without Sammy's framework but there are plenty of apps on play store that offered similar effects to Sammy's own. I used them on my note tablet when I ran any other rom then sammy roms.

Yes! I've been waiting for this. Thank you so much. Flashing right now. Will report back!

Flashed it but no dual speaker or data. Do I flash the kernel to the system partition too? Doesn't say in FAQ?

I don't know what you mean by data but i do know the kernel is supposed to be flashed as boot

Problem with fingerprint here.
Only first touch for new finger is registered.
After that it's not working anymore.

Data as in mobile / cellular data as discussed in telegram.
For anyone who has no cellular manually add your APN info in network settings.
Fingerprint does work and adds, go to settings and add fingerprints the registration bit is a bit finnicky but it adds them and they work.

A theoretical question/crazy idea:
Will installing Magisk's xmlpak module enable us to download and use the Samsung camera and spen features in this mod? So we could get the super slow mo, etc, back? Thanks

I followed the instructions by flashing the proper kernel image without gapps, but still bootloops in the Google Screen.

No, there's no way to get these features to work in Aosp based roms.

Fingerprint is not working, too all other works fine thank you soooo much!

No, nur you can activate IT via ADB shell command

If I want to flash another rom after flashing this rom and kernel, can this kernel work well with other roms or should I flash another kernel instead?

My number 1 question is: does dual sim work?

[ROM] [5.1.1] Custom OxygenOS [04-04-16]

Custom OxygenOS OneplusX - COSX ROM
Intro
First of, I'm not a developer. I'm just a guy who put a couple of things together. I'm a bit above noob-level, so dont excpect high end stuff like some prestigious developers. That being said, I have put this ROM together because of the lack of ROMS based on our original software for the OneplusX. Don't expect to much, the most things happen under the hood. So no shiny backgrounds or boot screens.
Disclaimer
You know the drill, flashing happens under own responsibility. I have tested everything on two devices, and will not put anything online that can possibily harm or damage our device in any way. This being said, if you need support, ask in this thread.
Open Source
The ROM i have created is for the community, which in my opinion also means it should be fully open source. You can edit everything you want. You can use it as base for whatever you like. No need to ask permission or give reference. Seeing the amount of customized original software, I would be happy to see more custom oos roms pop up. No need to put restrictions on anything. Please just don't bother me with antutu benchmark related complaints.

Hi. @winesh...
I think placeholder threads are not allowed as per the rules...
However, thanks for your contribution ..looking for download link ASAP

I think OP managed to put most of the tweaks one can do to the Stock OOS and created a zip flash package.
IIRC, I did pretty much similar things on my Stock OOS before moving over to CM13.
Good Job OP saving a lot of time for those who want to enjoy the stock experience.

Good work :good: Might try this as I kinda liked OOS but I'm currently running Marshmallow and CM based crDroid, so also might not go back to Lollipop
Biggest issues I had with the stock OOS 2.2.0 were:
1. Camera in low light situations. I think it's fixed here with Snapdragon camera?
2. Random rebooting, sometimes few times a day, sometimes few days without. Mostly occurred when playing any game with stock ROM. Is this custom OOS more stable?
3. I could not assign Menu action to HW buttons e.g. long pressing and this led to situation where I had to install Xposed framework and some module to get Menu in Titanium Backup to change backup location to SD card. Is this fixed here with Custom Hardware keys remap?
I know I should test this ROM myself, just pointing out biggest issues I had with stock OOS.
can u include the stock camera which has manual focus, exposure and iso??? or atleast let me know can i implement the stock oos camera in ur rom cheers

Thanks for your work!
So proximity wake up ambient display works in this rom ?
And what type of themes are supported ? Layers or CM ?
Theme support
So OP, You have provided Layers or CM theme engine into rom?
Though Layers supported Stock OOS 2.2.0(Partially not all the themes were working) .

Here's a link to resurrection remix. It's pretty good. https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-max-2/development/x82x-resurrectionremix-m-v5-7-4-t3542355. Most N roms are stable. You have instructions how to install the rom and what gapps to use in the first post on the rom thread. It's also pre rooted.
For the future, when you want to install root just flash this: http://tiny.cc/latestmagisk
Heyyo, for the most stable Nougat ROM? I'd recommend OmniROM. It's not as bleeding edge in changes such as BlackX or Resurrection Remix but it is built for stability upon OmniROM and Darkobas kernel. Depending as well on the build of Resurrection Remix it could have battery drain issues as you'll see on and off in the thread.
OmniROM also has the advantage of signed builds by Google so they come with official SafetyNet Certification. No need of Magisk and Magisk module workarounds so things like fingerprint unlock with your banking app should work without issue unlike any other ROM I've tried with RBC app... That also means if the Le Max 2 had built in NFC that android pay would have worked without a hitch...
I believe the only other custom ROM with signed builds by Google for official SafetyNet Certification is Paranoid Android but sadly there isn't official builds for the Le Max 2 (yet). Maybe once GalacticSryder receives his Le Max 2 we will see that and built upon is custom kernel as well!
I tried porting it but I suck at it and failed haha oh well at least it turns out I'm good at vehicle repairs
If you want ROMs with as much optimization as possible? BlackX or Slimroms is what I'd recommend. Good device tree and vendor stacks and built with Blackscreen kernel for a good balance between performance and battery life.
Also, Resurrection Remix for Nougat has reached final versions so it won't be receiving updates. As far as I know for Nougat ROMs I think Slimroms and BlackX are the only ones receiving updates still as andr68rus and I believe the same with Shivatejapeddi have both changed focus to Oreo.

You're welcome
It's up to you which path you wish to go. As mentioned OmniROM is definitely the most stable ROM as it tends to not receive major changes as quickly as other ROMs.
The official signed builds are found here:
http://dl.omnirom.org/x2/
Any ROM is super easy to root. Only requires flashing Magisk via TWRP. I'd easily recommend it over any other form of root since it's fully open source software (FOSS) and the modules capabilities is amazing with stuff like Universal SafetyNet fix or other mods like enabling 60fps recording on the Google Camera Mod. I also really enjoy the ART Optimization mod for a little extra performance.
Magisk is found here on XDA and I'd recommend v14.3 right now because v14.0 stable has actually given me more grief heh
You can download and read up on Magisk right here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74158225&postcount=31
BlackX ROM is actually maintained by that other dude who posted here, KuranKaname and definitely has the most optimizations of the buch that I recommended. His builds are based on LineageOS with Blackscreen 3.6 kernel which is really nice. His ROM does require special Gapps which can be found in his thread with the ROM downloads as well.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-max-2/development/rom-blackx-unofficial-optimized-t3668458
Slimroms was the third I mentioned which is kind of is a balance between the stability of OmniROM but some of the optimization of BlackX.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-max-2/development/rom-blackx-unofficial-optimized-t3668458
Since there isn't any limit on ROMs to flash you can always try out a ROM for a few days and if it doesn't quite suit your needs you can try swapping to a different ROM to see how it feels. In the end only you will know which of the three I mentioned is to your liking the most.

[ROM][8.1.0][PRE-OFFICIAL] LineageOS 15.1 for Galaxy Note 9 (Exynos)

Note: This is not a ROM based on the ROM shipped with your device. Exynos variants such as International (F), International Dual(Hybrid)-SIM (F/DS), Korean (N) ONLY. In NO way it is compatible with Snapdragon variants including but not limited to American(U/U1/A/T/P/V), Chinese(0/8/6), Hong Kong(0), Japanese(SC-*), Canadian(W) variants.
LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 8.1 (Oreo), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.

Device Info:
Galaxy Note 9 (Exynos): TBD
What's working:
TBD
This build is an official LineageOS build. Compliance with our device support requirements is enforced and guaranteed. That means including but not limited to these hardwares will work:
Wi-Fi
Bluetooth
Mobile Network (Calling, Data, etc.)
Audio
USB
GPS
Camera
Fingerprint Sensor
NFC
Etc. Check device support requirements for more.
What's not working:
Applicable exceptions granted in device support requirements.
Obviously Samsung's own features such as Samsung Pay, KNOX, Theme Center, Game Launcher, etc. won't be ported to LineageOS. We may have our own implementation to similar functions, though.
Iris sensor does not work because AOSP upstream does not support that yet.
IMS services (VoLTE, VoWiFi, etc). Samsung has their own proprietary implementation. It is not really possible to easily port that to LineageOS.
Instructions:
Make sure TWRP has been installed and functional
Download the latest build (and optionally gapps)
Download the compatible vendor image (https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=284041)
Reboot to recovery
Wipe data and cache (required if you switch from other ROMs)
Flash the vendor image
Flash the latest build (and gapps)
Reboot
LineageOS updater will handle updates automatically (OTA).
If you upgrade manually from older official releases to newer releases, you don't need to wipe your data or reflash gapps.

Reporting Bugs:
https://wiki.lineageos.org/bugreport-howto.html
DO NOT Report bugs if you're running a custom kernel or you installed Xposed
Grab a logcat right after the problem has occurred. (Please include at least a few pages of the log, not just the last few lines, unless you know what you're doing.)
If it is a random reboot, grab /proc/last_kmsg. (Do not bother getting a logcat unless you can get it just before the reboot. A logcat after a reboot is useless)
If the problem disappears after running "setenforce 0" from a root shell, grab /proc/avc_msg.
Remember to provide as much info as possible. The more info you provide, the more likely that the bug will be solved. Please also do not report known issues.
Please use LineageOS BUG tracker to report BUGs. BUGs reported in the thread could be ignored due to large number of posts.

Flashed, stuck at bootlogo. Doesn't even loop?
Tried flashing with noverity, tried with magisk, without magisk. Maybe vendor is bad?

bootsplash stuck could be a kernel
Are you sure magisk script ran correctly? Try flashing magisk again and see.
Thanks brother

spen is for touch wiz aka Sam experience
for the rest if the android world it's a mouse pointer.
Thank you @jesec for the effort.. This is exactly what I was looking for.
I tested this on N960F/D got stuck on bootsplash as well, I tried both Stock Vendor and the provided Vendor Images, with or without magisk with no luck.
I tried restoring boot image from previous backup (this might sound stupid) but I got past the splashcreen into Lineage Loading screen, it would stay for a minute then reboot to recovery.
For people who got stuck in the bootsplash
To exit the bootSplash freeze use the download mode button combination: Down+Bigsby+Power until screen goes off then recovery shorcut Up+Bigsby+Power,
Did anyone manage to make this work?

Same problem here, Stuck on bootloop
Jesec is back
The ROM doesn't boot for anyone curious. I haven't heard of a report of one booting successfully anyway.

You maybe answer the sensitivity level but there is also the need to some kind of powering off the 500KHz signal send when not using the pen.
Then can we use the sensor to activate the pen ? What about the Bluetooth button ?
The wacom screen could be initialize from the begining with Project Trebble. What's the differences with LOS for S9s ?

Please don't ask about sailfish builds because there are NO builds for sailfish. If someone wants to build for it, be my guest
And please don't spam saying that something doesn't work, I'll tell the developers or edit it myself
Known Issues:
Popup saying something is broken in device - fixed when I use kingkernel for the next build
Update!
Changelog (Probably not full because it's unofficial)
-Add system-wide dark theme
Download here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=290004
Enjoy!
Always god to have new ROM developers here! Good luck with your project! :good:
Cheers...
Just took it for a spin, it runs well and always happy to have a system wide dark mode! A couple of Questions / requests:
IS it possible to have a night / dark mode Option like stock with "automatically based on time", please...?
Is the kernel based on your King kernel?
Thanks for your good work on our device, cheers…!

I'll ask the devs about the timed thing, but you can ask in the telegram link in the OP. This doesn't use KingKernel because I'm still trying to figure out how to use custom clang and GCC toolchains to compile inline

Hi, I went from Los 16 on my marlin and wanted to try this rom,
but all I ever got was error message when setting it up saying that ” the downloader keeps crashing” ( perhaps not exact wording since I use Swedish on the phone. )
Where should I look for a solution, I still want to test Cosp?
I'm going to be "that" guy, but rom possible for the sailfish (pixel)? I'd love to run this rom, if anything I can download source and attempt to build it myself. Thanks in advance!

What is this?

Our mission is to offer the maximum possible stability and security, along with essential features for the proper functioning of the device
Based on Android 9.0

This it not a GSI. It is built on actual device trees
What's working/not working?
First up:
-Sometimes after setting the brightness to maximum, it doesn't want to lower its value and gets stuck. is fixed only by a reboot.
-HWC is disabled
-The signalbar always shows 0, altho calling and data have no issue and should work as intended.

Troubleshooting/FAQ:
Q: Videos aren't playing on youtube
A: Make sure you don't have any kind of adblock installed
Q: I'm on a dualsim variant and (a) sim isn't detected.
A: Try reinserting your sim and rebooting. This wierdly nuff only happens on some* dualsim variants and no one has sent me a logcat yet.
Q: My mobile data (3G/4G) is not working/only 3g shows
A: Go into mobile network settings and select/create an apn, also select 4G as the preferred network type.
Q: How does this compare to GSIS?
A: Much better all around. Faster, smoother etc. I don't think there's any reasons to use pie gsis anymore.
Q: How good is the camera?
A: Actually,(by my standards), pretty good. Almost comparable to stock. Ofc the aosp cam doesn't have the fancy filtering, features and stuff but by far not bad. Alot better than 8.1 roms anyway.
Q: Safetynet doesn't pass?
A: Yeah, i guess that's a thing. Go into magisk and download some module called props hide or something. Don't forget to run it from terminal. It should work from there
Q: The rom isn't booting/camera doesn't work
A: Flash/make sure you have the CSA2 vendor and fw, and try again. This has been tested. It's prolly something on ur end.
A: Awwww thanks; On most of my posts on the left side there's a "donate to me" paypal button;. Send the seal some fish. Seriously. The seal realllyyyyy loves fish. You can do that, donations are more than welcome, or if you don't have any $ to spare you can also post here about how awesome i am (this surprisingly helps very much)

Note 9 users should be very glad that although there are basically no aosp devs left for their device they still got a build. Maybe if you guys give Alex some beers he might get motivated for you crownlte guys
thank u
Everything works so far. Will report if I find any issues. Nice work brotha
Always wanted to try a Pixel Experience ROM but I keep getting turned off by the Camera
Hot damn! We got a live one! Thank you for giving us some AOSP goodness, was beginning to wonder if it would ever come.
Do you think we'll see more AOSP ROMs start to pop up for the Note 9?

Does it keep up with the stock camera or gcam port even?
This is the moment I wonder what's more important - warranty or geek happiness...
awesome
glad this isn't GSI though i had no problem with GSI roms
Rom working great beside the known bugs. Sadly hwc isnt working, on the s9 forum they also cant get it working sadly. Google camera works great for the people thinking of switching. Battery life is just very bad because of no hwc. Gsi roms are very stable with endurance kernel.
Good to see your work over here , I been tested so far very good on stable initial release
Great rom! Must have!
Thanks to the xda writers for this making it to the news section.
Dear Ranibow_Dash
May I ask you about the boot animation?
Is this rom using zips for boot animation?
If so is there a way to get it to work on a stock rom as well?
