Camera shutter sound - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

Hey everyone
I just got this phone and so far it's been cool and good, I really like it despite the display quality being off in perspective to my galaxy s6
Anyways, I digress, in the camera app I can turn the shutter sound off but it seems that any other third party app like Snapchat or Instagram keep this shutter sound
It's really bugging, I need it gone so I don't disturb people around me or something...
Things I've tried:
Screenshot sound off
Camera sound off from camera settings
Phone to silent
Phone to DND
All volume sliders to 0
Nothing works, any idea before I throw root on it and delete some files?

I didn't find anything that'd work.
Decided to unlock and install LOS 16.
All good now, except IR Camera and hotspot.

I'm going to wait before throwing a custom rom on it but I'm probably going to root and take the files out

Hello there, can you point me to the directory for Instagram and Snapchat files? I am currently rooted and would really like to remove the shutter sounds as they are very annoying. Thank you.

I'm pretty sure you can delete the file camera_click.ogg from system/media/audio/ui
Make sure to keep a backup first of the file in case something goes wrong.
Additional files related to camera sounds that may need to be deleted to are: camera_focus.ogg, videorecord.ogg, videostop.ogg

[Q] How to disable camera shutter sound?

Is it possible to disable the camera shutter sound on the SGS2? It's very loud and kind of annoying.
I'm going to a wedding at the weekend and it would be nice to be able to take pictures without pissing off the entire church.
Put the phone in silent mode when using the camera that should do the trick without any trickery
Silent mode doesn't make any difference, it's still the same.
Anyone know if there's a good camera app without shutter sound I can use instead?
Even when i have it on silent mode, it still makes the shutter sound
There is no setting to disable it in camera settings anymore?
You could do it on SGS...
Try turning media volume down
You need root
Go to /system/media/ui/
Then delete the files got to do with the camera including the shutter

Yup, someone wanna chuck us the camera apk? Should be possible to fix it that way..
Or, as someone said, try renaming the sound file in media to whatever.ogg.OLD
I think all UK phones have to comply with anti-voyeurism laws which is why all phones there have the camera shutter no matter what. If you have rooted your phone I think you could easily delete or modify the shutter sound though...

Sorry guys, new to this, I've tried to rename the file using fs explorer and it will not allow me to either re name or delete the file, any advice would be gratefully received

Use root explorer, you can and need to enable write access in order to change/rename files at root level.
Got the shutter sound deleted but there is still a beep when it focuses. Any ideas?

From the code, I see there should be a setting to enable or disable autofocus sound.
Can you please confirm if this exists before I go much further into this. Usually you tap menu, or press a settings button on-screen in camera to get some options.
Looks like it can be disabled.

OK. You can try pulling the APK, then removing the file in res/raw/. Delete the ogg file with the obvious name like AutoFocus.ogg (not got the file to hand)
Back up the old one before doing this! Then replace the file on the device with this one. Reboot, see if it works. If it doesn't and camera doesn't appear, then you need to restore the backup and reboot again. That should fix it
If it crashes when focussing, we need to replace the OGG with an "empty" ogg, but then re-sign the APK, which will involve editing packages.xml
while were on the subject, is it possible to remove the parental control set in place, that prevents the camera from being opened if the battery is >15%, and where it kills your music, when you open the camera? i will personally donate $25 dollars if you did that. and forever praise you as the best developer in the world
(very serious about the donation tho)

Hi mate, I'm on stock... And I'm not in silent mode, everything in my sound is max out... I just noticed today that my camera sound is gone as Im not always using the camera. I do't know if this is because of the BLFB Firmware update (currently Im still in BLFB)...
It seems that no one is experiencing this again... well that's Android... now I know..

In every operating system you'll find problems noone else seems to have encountered.
Do you mean the recording sound the device emits when going into Camera mode or the audio capture of the video?

I'm not sure when did this happen but I know that there's a shutter sound when I last used it..

The camera sound files are stored inside a system folder on your phone. I was going to say to check to see if the files are there and play them to ensure they aren't corrupt. However, if you are not rooted, you may not be able to access them.
If you reflash your current stock rom or update your rom to the latest version from Samsung, I believe that can fix your problems.

How can it be corrupted mate if I didn't do anything to my phone (Just regular use). Previously I also had a problem with OTA update and I needed to clear the data of Software Update for it to run again.
I'm really starting to believe that this is really a buggy piece of software (Android or maybe TW of Samsung)... Even the Accuweather widget is not auto refreshing if I restarted the phone and I need to clear again the data for it to auto refresh again or run normally.
Sorry I'm just frustrated
After doing everything I could (Except the Factory Reset), my camera shutter sound is still not working.
I tried to Clear the data of camera app, restart the phone, shutdown and reopen the phone, shutdown and remove the battery then reopen the phone, tried to uninstall some apps I recently installed, and still no shutter sound
I'm about to try today the "wipe cache partition" but first I tried again to shutdown and reopen my phone and guess what, now my shutter sound is back!
Only difference is currently I dont have any internet connection on my phone (No Wifi / Mobile data). Weird! :silly:

Everything stock mate... Everything is working fine now... I guess this is a Touchwiz problem or worst this is an android thing. I searched the net and there are others experiencing this using different devices... Maybe this is an android bug, I'm not sure as it hard to replicate this problem and theres no accurate solution... :silly:
Check this if you are rooted
How to enable on/off button for Shutter sound:
Edit /system/csc/feature.xml with text editor of choice.
Add following lines:
<!-- Enable/disable the camera shutter sound -->
<CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>true</CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>
Reboot, Voila, now you can enable/disable shutter sound from camera menu. (I'm on BLG8)
Credits to PaWill
I'm also having this same problem...
Let me start from the beginning...
I got the phone from Vodafone Portugal. It came with the ICS rom, but right away I updated with the first polish JB rom. Also put root on it.
I'm constantly updating roms, so I tried most new roms that were releasing, mostly unbranded roms, from France, UK, India, etc... I did some dirty flashes but sometimes I flashed from the ground, full wipe...
Also, never used a custom rom for example...
I don't remember when did it happen, but somehow, camera stop making sounds, shutter sound and selection sounds... I also lost the sound setting from camera menu options...
I never, but never modified that aspect. And with a option do enable/disable sound shutter, why would I need to disable sound shutter with another method?!?!
A few weeks ago, I was on XELLA, and I added that camera line on the feature.xml file. No sounds I got...
By the way, the camera sounds are on a folder inside /system/ and they work perfectly , they are not broken
Today, I updated, dirty flash over XELLA, the new vodafone rom XERM2. I was with no hope to get the sounds...
I remember to check feature.xml on the system/csc folder to see if it was there, but the file was removed. I had a couple of modifications (including the line for the shutter sounds). So I restored an old backup that I had from the file. I set permissions and reboot.
I got a half surprise, guess what, I regain the Camera Sound settings from camera menu options.
The bad thing is that I still can't get any shutter or any other sounds from the camera app
Any ideas?!?! Please!!! I want Camera sounds back!!! Need help please!!!

Cerberus Caused Loss of Touch Sounds

Hi I installed Cerberus (remote locating software) for my S3. I have CF root, running on stock firmware LG8.
I used a zip to flash Cerberus (from the website) using CWM so I could get extra features which I did about 6 days ago. I tried to use Cerberusapp.com to test if everything is working today and it wasn't responding as it should. The feature I used was take an immediate pic using front camera.
I exited from the webapp and then tried to use the camera and it would open but then I was met with an error message saying Camera: failed or something similar to that and then the camera app would close.
I restarted the phone and camera was working fine. But now the keypad tones when you press back button, menu button, or when you swipe to unlock screen have disappeared.
Loudspeaker works when I play music and other things. Earpiece works when I make calls.
But the splish/splash sounds won't work at all. Also, when I boot the phone up, the sound the accompanies the Samsung animation boot logo doesn't play either.
How do I rectify this? I don't want to reflash with stick f/w through Odin if it can be avoided and if there is of course a simple fix.
Thanks
at a guess the app disables sounds so as not to alert the thief that you are taking photo of them. I would imagine the app developer is your best bet for a solution, but check and see if in system/media the app might of places a .nomedia file or some such disabling file

I think I'll have to e-mail the support team because it doesn't seem like it's intentional.
The keypad tones and sounds have gone but the shutter sound when taking a photo is still there. Also, why would it affect the sound on the boot animation?
Using rootexplorer I've looked through the system/media and other folders but there's no sign of anything that shouldn't be there.
It was all working as expected before this little error occurred. When taking pics using Cerberus the camera wouldn't make a sound but the key press sounds would still make a sound.
Anyway, thanks for your help, I'll give the developer a shout and if nothing can be resolved I might just reflash and do it all over again.

[ROOT] RoidDroidVoid's Silent LG V20 Camera Mod v.0.99 -UPDATED 2/3/17 (SELFIE BUG)

RoidDroidVoid's LG V20 Silent Camera Mod
(Now with Less Sound!)
THERE IS A BUG THAT CAUSES A FORCE CLOSE WHEN SWITCHING TO SELFIE CAM
ATTENTION: I am re-posting the download links for those of you that do NOT care about the selfie camera. I have been using this mod since I first made it but I never use the selfie camera so please take this into consideration before deciding to use this mod for now.
I am working to resolve this issue and I'll post an update as soon as it is fixed.
***IMPORTANT - If you accidentally click the camera switch button, it will keep force closing until you clear the camera app data.***
Since there are no negative repercussions to clearing the camera app data, it hasn't been much of a bother to me personally.
Disclaimer: I take no responsibility for any harm that may be caused by your negligence, my mods, apps, kernels, ROMs or anything else! This is not likely to cause any major issues but in the unlikely event that anything does go wrong, remember, you FLASH AND/OR INSTALL AT YOUR OWN RISK! Backing up first is always a good idea.
This replaces the stock LG Camera app with my modified Silent Camera app. No more jarring and distracting camera noises!
This is based on the 10d Camera app for the time being. I am moving to the 10j Camera on the next version. That version will not have the selfie bug. (I'm absolutely determined that it won't. :fingers-crossed
You MUST be rooted! I have only tested this on my H918 LG V20 (which is on Tilde88's NotSoStock ROM) so let me know if it works for you and what model you have so I can add the info to this post.
This is in ALPHA. Once the only known issue (broken selfie cam) is resolved, I'll increment the version and update this post.
I have included the APK if you'd rather handle the camera replacement yourself. (Copy to /system/priv-apps/LGCameraApp then remove the existing LGCameraApp.apk and make sure the correct permissions are set)
I have also included a TWRP flashable ZIP. (Flash from TWRP)
At the very bottom of this post, you will find the stock camera as both a flashable ZIP and the APK if you want to return to stock.
I hope everyone enjoys the fruit of my labor! If you do, please let me know!
*** Please DO NOT use my work in your ROM or otherwise include it in your work without giving credit where credit is due! ***
*** As long as you give due credit, you may use my mod without my permission! ***
I may make further enhancements to the camera app in the near future but I couldn't think of anything else to improve yet.
(Thank you Jeep447 for finding and reporting selfie bug)
(LG built the camera, I just silenced it.)

Thanks, testing it now! I created a titanium backup in case there's issues. If it's easy and on hand would be great if you could create a restore package with the stock.
So does this camera mod decreases the added noise LG adds to there camera or is this a mod to remove camera sounds (audio)?

This mod removes the loud annoying camera sounds. Are you referring to visible noise?
Thank you for your work on this but I'm on a rooted stock H-918 V20 (T-Mobile) and unfortunately the manual way is not working for me, I renamed the original Apk, copied the one you provided to the same folder, corrected the permissions, and then rebooted.
Once it booted up the camera app and icon were there and looked like normal, and when I first opened the camera everything looked good and I was even able to take a picture from the rear camera. The problem is whenever you swipe across the screen to switch it to the front camera it almost immediately force closes (and then every time you open the app after that it just keeps force closing until you clear data so it'll open with the rear cam first again), so then I tried clearing the app cache and data and then it'll open like normal again but anytime I'd try switching to the front camera it would always force close?
Anyway just thought I'd mention it and see if I'm possibly doing something wrong? I didn't flash the zip because I wanted to be able to revert back but now that I've backed up the original Apk once I finish my nand backup in TWRP I'll give it a shot and post the results. If you have any suggestions or need more info from me just let me know and I'd be happy to help anyway I can, thanks again!
Edit : One step I did that I forget to mention is that I renamed the Apk that you provided so it was exactly the same name as the one I was replacing, and I'm pretty sure that's what you're supposed to do but just thought I'd mention it just in case I wasn't supposed to. Thanks

When I first tested, I wasn't seeing the FC but I just checked it again and I can verify that it is FCing when the camera is swapped. Thank you for testing and reporting the issue!
I will figure out the issue and post a new link when the problem is resolved. In the meantime, I posted the original APK and a flashable ZIP to return the stock camera.
(BTW - Renaming is fine but it is not necessary)
I hope to turn this around tonight but it's really late here so I might not get the links back up until tomorrow.

Hey RoidDroidVoid, i had a similar experience to others--appeared to flash ok and camera would initially open but then FC when going to selfie mode. Also I still had shutter sounds when taking pics. Is it supposed to silence camera entirely? If so let me know where the setting for that is.
Also as an FYI, my titanium backup did not restore correctly so i had to restore my NAND backup. Just so others know to use that method on future mods that involve system apps.
Thanks for you efforts!

Instead of having to go through all of that and having to restore a nand backup all you have to do is use a file manager and go into SYSTEM - PRIV-APP - LGCAMERAAPP and make a copy of LgCameraApp.apk and save it somewhere on your SD card, that way if something is goes wrong you can always just copy it back to that folder and you're good to go [emoji106]

Yeah that's actually why I didn't flash the zip at first and just did it manually, because that way if something went wrong I could just go right back to the way it was without a lot of work. That was also before the OP posted a "Revert back to stock" zip though, so now that he has whenever he releases an updated zip I'll just go ahead and flash it this time.. because if something goes wrong it's as easy as flashing the revert zip to go back to normal.
It's always a good idea to make a backup before you do any kind of mod though because it's better to be safe than sorry, I guess it's just my luck but for me at least it seems like everytime I do something without making a backup first, it always happens to be the time something goes horribly wrong lol. So yeah it doesn't take too many times of having to start all over again from scratch before you learn that it's always best to have a backup first before trying something lol!

Thanks for letting me know your experience. I know the camera swap issue is present as we've already covered but I don't understand the shutter sounds you are hearing. I am unable to reproduce this issue which has me a little confused.
Is it possible then that you have the sounds saved in the '/system/media/audio/ui' folder still? On most phones, removing or renaming the relevant files in that folder will remove the camera sounds but LG decided to embed their noises and compile them into the app. I did not think to remove them with the package since I didn't notice any reference to them in the code and removing them did not remove the sounds.... but they may be causing the issue which would be interesting.
Maybe Jeep can tell us whether or not he renamed or deleted the external camera oggs beforehand. I did that first and forgot about their existence after that failed to remove the noises.
Let me know and, in the meantime, I'll see what happens if I put them back.

I have been bogged down at work and losing sleep so I did not get a chance to resolve the issue. What I did do is get a logcat and do my best to analyse it. Also, I rather thoroughly tested every aspect of the modded app and it seems that the camera swap is the only functional problem. Maybe you could confirm the same?
I think I'm onto the source of the camera swap issue but I'll need to pull everything apart and start over to see if my hunch is right so please be patient (not that you haven't been).
Also, thanks for helping jay.

I just got done with work so I'll try to accomplish something this evening. I hate it when work gets in the way of the things I'd rather be doing.
On an unrelated note - I wish your Coleco tag was true... that would be bada$$. [emoji23]

I know exactly what you mean because work is always getting in the way of the things that I always want to do too, but it's just a vicious circle because without work I wouldn't be able to afford to do the things I want to do anyway lol!
Anyway no worries at all man take your time and if there's anything I can do to help please let me know and I'll be happy to do whatever I can for ya, I pretty much came to the same conclusion about switching cameras being the only problem because it was the last thing I hadn't tried and everything else worked like it should. I did not mess with any of the camera .ogg sound files and the shutter sound was muted on mine so that's just strange, the only thing for me that wasn't working right was the switching cameras and everything else was golden.
And yeah I wish my tag could be true too [emoji23] [emoji23]!!
I mean I'm good and everything but I'm not THAT good!! LOL

Just thought I'd check but I'm assuming you must've hit a road block on this unfortunately? Either way thank you again for the time and effort you put into this because it's much appreciated!

Hey... sorry I did not abandon this. I recently started a business and business has been pretty good so I have neglected more than this project lately.
Tomorrow I would like to give another shot at getting the selfie cam to work without the fc issues.
If you are on 10j, could you pm me and we can coordinate so you can test?
I haven't updated at all but the versions are likely different now so I'll grab what I need from the new rom. I don't want to take the time to upgrade right now so maybe I can get this done without.
I have been using my silent modded camera and I'm very pleased with it but I don't use the selfie cam like ever. It does suck pretty bad, however, if I accidentally hit the button with my hand and then have to go through resetting app data.
Let me know if you would like to help me expedite the fix.
Thanks!

No need to apologize at all man I completely understand, I actually run my own business too so I know exactly how easy it is for things to get lost in the shuffle!
I'll do whatever I can to help out but I hate to say it though I'm actually still on 10d too, I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing but I'll pm ya either way and see if I can still help! Thanks for responding and no worries at all I'm glad to hear your business is going well man.. that's what's really important!!

Disabling Instagram, Snapchat camera shutter sound off

Hello,
I saw a similar thread on this but no answer. I have disabled the main camera app shutter sound but third party apps still make the sound. It's pretty annoying. This is my first time using MIUI, so I guess it's a Xiaomi thing. I am rooted, so even if someone can point me to the right files to delete for Instagram and Snapchat, that would be really helpful.
Thanks!

Can't you make your phone silent or DND when you're using these apps.
You could program Tasker to make your mobile go silent temporarily while using these apps.

That's the thing, even when I silence my phone or turn on DND, these third party apps still make that camera shutter sound. I am guessing I have to manually remove the media files for these apps.

Maybe this issue is exactly like how someone was unable to mute notification sounds from WhatsApp in silent\dnd. Search for that thread.
