I am currently looking to buy Honor 10, however, after reading some reviews and comments on the internet regarding the slowness and unresponsiveness of the fp scanner, I am really hesitant to.
May I know opinions on anyone already using the Honor 10 regarding the fp speed/reliability compared to iphone 7, oneplus 5 etc.?
it's bad compared to regular FP in other Huawei models, when it works it's fine, but it doesn't work always, though face unlock in good lightning conditions it's superfast, not very usable in dark (obviously)
though compared to other brands even this is still decent FP

Can you have a comparison with other brands as well, for example iphone 6s, samsung s7, oneplus 3 etc.
No problem after the first update.
And it's important how the fingerprint is registered.
One finger is recognized everytime on first try. An other finger ist working in 90% of the time.
I came from a Honor 8, and this brand new Honor 10 is a BIG Disappointment. Doesn't work fast, sometimes only recognize the fingerprint at the 3rd or 4th try...
Actually it's horrible... It takes severel times to detect the finger print (can compare to my Mate 8 and the Honor 6x).
But the face unlock is surprisingly good, even in low light and if you not hold your phone perpendicular to your face
The fingerprint reader is embarrassingly bad and I really hope they can improve it with a firmware update.
Thankfully, as mentioned, face unlock works really well.
it's really a shame then would have been perfect if they just used the normal fingerprint technology. I'm still holding out of buying it until I can try it in shop but they don't have stock for demo yet.
Same experience here - FP reader is slow and inconsistent, however face unlock works so well that I just use this and am very happy with it.
It's a different type of fingerprint scanner on the Honor 10. Its under the bezzel of the display and works with pressure. A slightly unfair comparison to other flagships here. In my opinion the fingerprint scanner placement isn't useful. Face unlock is faster.
I agree what other said. The fingerprint sensor just isn't as responsive as other conventional fingerprint sensors. I guess that is the trade off on some usability for style (under-glass sensor). There is no lowered platform in this phone. And no fingerprint sensor at the back ties in nicely with the cool phantom colors of the back cover.
Face unlock is faster but less secure as it is not true 3d face unlock technology like Iphone X or the Mi 8. I personally still go with fingerprint instead of face unlock.
I find the fingerprint sensor to be pretty fast although you do have to have to put pressure on it. What is more disappointing is when you want to use it for off screen navigation swiping it from left to right or right to left is supposed to bring up recent tasks but it only works about 50% of the time. I have put the on screen navigation back but it's a shame because it uses up screen space.

I agree. The unresponsive fingerprint for navigation even after the update is what makes me want to return the Honor 10 and get the P20. I want to use the off-screen navigation but same experience, it's unresponsive and works only half the time. P20 doesn't have this problem whatsoever.
They wanted full underscreen scanner.
Drawbacks. As everyone have noticed, ridiculous sensitivity issue.
Kinda hoped they just use back normal scanner, although it would feel different than glass, it functions better.
Mine works pretty well, i have no problems with unlocking or navigation. The only problem is the recent apps gesture, because of the screen protector it dosent work all the time from the first try.
Bought this phone last week...yeah it's a little bit slower than other flagship phones but i never had a problem with my fp recognition, it always works pretty good and doesn't need that much pressure. Though i have to admit i prefer the face unlock, it's faster, more convenient and i can use it while driving.

True, unlocking and navigation works fine. Same with me that recent apps gesture works only 50% of the time and that's a bit frustrating to me :/
I dont want to remove the screen protector, i bet it will work flawless after. We have to swipe full FP and the protector kinda prevents us to do that.
As almost evryone said it's not the fastest on earth but it kinda works and do the job, even if sometimes I have to try 3 times before unlocking.
I first tried the face unlock but sometimes I just want to take a look at the notifications without unlocking my phone so I de-activated it and the more i am using the FP the better it seems to work (or maybe I'm just getting used to it). Also I use the FP to navigate in the UI and love it for the moment even if the recent apps is sometimes hard to get.
So in case Mi9 users didn't see this, Samsung is having similar issues with their S10. When I saw the news about Samsung, I tried and tested this on my Mi9 and low and behold it unlocks with any of my fingers if I put the included silicone cover on top of the screen. Of course it doesn't work when the cover is not over the screen.
Any Mi9 users care to do the test? I bet all the Mi9 phones come with that thin silicone cover included in the box.
P.S. Also worth mentioning I have a screen protector on as well. I heard some screen protectors can cause this issue as well (seems it isn't the case with mine).

Put a thin silicone case over the phone's screen and put any finger that is not registered over the sensor area. The phone will unlock.

Doesn't work on mine device too , with either registrated fingerprint or not , it's doesn't unlock at all with any finger when my stock cover that comes with the device.
Samsung ultrasonic?

Got notification from my bank app that fingerprint login for s10/note 10 is disabled, for mi 9 no restrictions.
You got me curious so I put the case on the phone the other way around so it covers the screen but the fp sensor doesn't work at all for me, correct fingers or not. Tried quite a few times like this and also with the back of the case on the screen, it always fails or in the case of putting the back of the case on the screen, it says the finger was moved too fas even though there's no movement at all. Quite odd if it unlocks like that for you, thought only ultrasonic sensors have that issue, I also don't think the screen protector causes it but I don't have any so can't say for sure.
My screen was replaced in like day two after buying the phone because it turned all green. Mi store here in Romania refused to give me a new phone. Could this be the cause of why this happens for me?

Do you have face unlock enabled?
Because when your Phone is unlocked via face unlock you can put any fingers on the fingerprint sensor and your phone will change to the Homescreen

In my case this is not true!
I have face unlock enabled and fingerprint sensor is working as it should!
I can unlock only with dedicated and memorized fingerprints regardless activated face unlock function!
Also, as I can see, title of this thread is little unfair to Mi9 because author in latest posts say that his phone screen is replaced!
After such big replacement I believe that factor reset procedure should be done because every peripheral have is unique ID and if this ID is not correctly recognized and maybe ID value from old sensor is used then all this "blind" recognition doesn't surprises me.

Hello! I have the same problem, I discovered it a few days ago. It is unlocked with any finger.
Doesn't affect my phone. With the silicone case from the back over the front, only the correct finger(s) will unlock the phone.
It works fine on my mi9. In addition, Samsung has a different type of reader, as its predecessors have already mentioned.
The samsung problem is simple, it has the tolerance set too high, this is because SS want to have a better "usability" of the reader.
Buuuuuut, it backfired.
They have to think a little and know that people will uncover this trick to have a "better reader".
This can happen in any sort of reader, it's only a matter of parameters in software.

Hi, after update to xiaomi EU 11.0.8 from 11.0.1 vodafone, the finger printer is more more fast and read nothing error. I used to have trouble reading the print of any finger. Things have improved a lot now.

I don't think that the fingerprint sensor is slow, i think the problem is that you didn't register properly the fingerprint, and the sensor is having a hard time finding matches.
Try to remove your current finger and register it again but this time register the sides of the finger first, try to cover all 360 degrees of your thumb, you have plenty of trials to cover all the finger.
I also had a problem, where i registered a fingerprint before i installed a glass screen protector, that made the fingerprint very slow, removing and registering the finger with the glass on did the job.

i have done this , i also done to add the same finger 2 times ... before i had an mi6 and it is 10 times faster. note is slow very slow. i don't maybe sensor is fine and the processor makes it slow cause is a mid range processor. Mi 10 lite which has better processor is also faster than note
You cant compare physical fingerprint sensor with an in display one. As far as in display fingerprints go, speed on mi note 10 lite is completely adequite, not very fast but not very slow either. Every review i have watched had no complaints about it. I think your expectations are wrong.
Coming from ASUS and Mi Max 3, it's indeed slower. But likely because of in-screen fingerprint scanner.

also mi 10 lite have fingerprin in-screen but is much faster .. processor ok is better but is not snap 8 series ...

Mi 10 lite fingerprint is not much faster. Its a little faster. And yes, that might be because of soc

You can get the same results recalibrating the sensor

the problem is the fingerprint at AOD ... it is really slow , on apps unlock works ok
i try this to change default animation, i don't know . i looks faster but i m not sure yet

Sunday night updated to the Jan security update on the Pixel 6. Prior to that, the finger print reader was working (but barely). I got distracted and forgot to check how the fingerprint recognition was working. The next day, forgot completely about the update and installed the Whitestone dome protector (which went mostly good but I've got three small bubbles, but that's another story).
After installing the dome, they recommend retraining the reader. However, even after training with multiple fingers, the reader, very, very rarely works probably less than 1% of the time if even that. Any ideas what I could try to improve the accuracy? The January update seems to have improved accuracy for most people. I just wish I had tested out the January update more thoroughly before adding the screen protector.
I bought the Dome glass,too. After replace it with the old glass protection the fingerprint was worse than before.
I trained the new, but not better.
What helped for me was to train the FPS again with more pressure of the finger on the FPS. Now it's working almost like the old protection.

No, I never activated it...
I just installed the Whitestone Dome yesterday. My fingerprint seemed to work the same but I went ahead and did a retrain. I think it is still close to without it (WD) except for 1 finger. I had an issue with that same finger on my old OP6T. Good Luck.
I also installed yesterday Whitestone Dome, the fingerprint reader works just like before almost every time. I never had any problems with the FPR, it only failed when I lifted the thumb to early. I did not retrain my thumb, increased Touch sensivity is still disabled. I don't know if it matters, but 4 finger profiles are my thumb.

Try enabling it. It's a toggle switch under Settings > Display.

I tried doing 4 finger profiles of the thumb but that didn't help either.
Does anyone one know if training indoors, does lighting impact the accuracy of recognition?
I did a quick search and found these other threads on the P6 finger print issue.

I've noticed that a lot of times I get a "face doesn't match" message even in very good lighting conditions where I'd usually have no issues.
I tried turning the screen off and then on again to scan my face in the same position, and it can display "face doesn't match" 2-3 times in a row before being successful.
I noticed that I need to use my fingerprint much more than on my previous device, before my face wasn't registered only in very dark situations, and now even during the day it displays this message a lot.
Did anyone else experience this?

Can confirm, the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro is really fast and good with face unlock, Samsung has sucked with this for years, that's pretty much the only gripe I have with Samsung, their unreliable Face Unlock.

Yes and with xiaomi 10 pro we dont need to puth the face front of camera you can easy unlock even if you are far from camera i dont understand why samsung not work well
Working fast and without any issues for me even at arms length. Try redoing face recognition in clear day light or with lights on, moving your face very slightly for different angles up down left right and then add the alternative one too.
I have try multiple time no succes even with friend face, same problem the device cant reconize

Is your front camera covered by screen protector, glass, film, dirt, fingerprints, or scratched? Are you able to take clear perfect selfies and videos?
Why pin instead of fingerprint?

Strange. It works perfectly and instantly for me.
Have you tried setting it up different distances from your face too? Bright light? Day light?
I have tried all of the above suggestions, even before posting this thread. I also have alternative look added in the daylight. Since I used s21u before this one, I can definitelly say that there's something off about the face recognition on this device. I guess it's a software bug. With all the same settings it was working amazing on my s21u, even from an angle, in darker environments.
I'd suggest that we report this on samsung members app.

Yep report please. It may be a software bug or glitch which they should know about so they can fix it.
I can't fault mine so there is definitely a difference in experience.
Same here, seems like the issue for Samsung to fix in the following updates.
