Anyone in the U.S. buy one? - Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 Questions & Answers

If so, can you let me know which seller, and whether you had to pay duty or import fees?

Bought it from Hong Kong Goldway. No duty/import fees. Delivered by DHL in 1 week. Bonus, it came with the bootloader unlocked.

Yes, that is it. It came with Mokee preinstalled. I immediately flashed stock MIUI to try it, then flashed other AOSP based ROM's and decided that Mokee was the best for me. Definitely flash yourself to make sure there isn't malware on it since it came with the bootloader unlocked.

Yeah it is better to flash the latest China Stable as soon as you get the device, I bought mine on Gearbest and it had a fake MIUI Global rom on it, that didn't have OTA updates and could have contained malware.

Build JDQ39.I9205ZHUAMG1 (3.4.0-1025373 Kernel). SamMobile lists it as Hong Kong ROM. Got my 9205 on eBay in the UK & it updated OTA when I switched it on ... nice surprise, as I felt getting the 8G device was a bit of a risk with no apps 2 sd!

I got mine automatically via OTA.
Looks like you can get it if you go to "Check your firmware" on SamMobile & enter GT-I9205 as the model & TGY as the Product code. I have no idea if you can flash that version onto anything other than an original TGY device ... at your own risk!! I take no responsibility for anything untoward that may happen if you try!

As I said above - absolutely no idea. No indication that its different hardware, so I might expect it to work? Don't know if I'd take the risk myself. Maybe someone with more experience with different ROMs etc can comment?

Pure Android on lemax 2

Hi
I have ordered le max 2 x822 from China, to Poland. Is it worth to install new rom? Is it possible to install pure android?
Best
Mokee rom is your best bet if you like stock android experience, but try EUI first, you might like it.
I Like eui if you put away the chineses apps it's a very nice system
Can anything goes wrong? I never did it before
My Le max arrived 4 days ago and I installed Cm13 in the same day. Was my first time too
The "worst" part is install custom recovery (twrp), after that everything is easy.

How to Flash TWRP and ROOT Xiaomi Mi Note2

I had posted tutorial on How to Flash TWRP and ROOT Xiaomi Mi Note2 in miui forum link below
http://en.miui.com/thread-415853-1-1.html
Not a single response?
Tested and working fine people with the GLOBAL ROM version?
Thanks, new Mi user here and I used parts of the tutorial and have working root. I did not flash the root zips proposed, as I do not know them, I flashed SuperSu for root as soon as I had a working TWRP.
My bootloader was already unlocked by reseller and some unofficial global ROM was flashed on it. :crying:

I am using v20 at the moment and really hoping to get root. It's a better phone with root, but without is really making it hard.

Moved from OnePlus 3 to the Mi Note 2 6GB 128GB.
The method works... Thank you, I downloaded the latest SuperSu to root and that works too...
Flashed a clean ROM from: http://mi-globe.com/index.php/rom-builder/
Flashed Xposed Framework from SolarWarez 64

Non-existing ROM?
Hello guys,
I received my Xiaomi Mi Note 2 Global version from Gearbest, but I gues there's something not right with it. I have MIUI v8.2.9 (I just read news about 8.2 coming for some Xiaomi devices today). I have this system, since I got the phone (more, than a week). It really is global ROM, since I have a lot of languages, it supports B20 4G, however this ROM is soemthing non-existing stuff. It says Android version is 6.0, MIUI is v8.2, that quite not right. Any suggession on what the heck this is, is very much appreciated!
Check out my screenshots!

International Version?

On Gearbest they are selling an international Mi Pad 4, I'm pretty sure this rom is a vendor rom, so I've a few questions.
1. Is it safe?
2. Does the bootloader come unlocked?
3. Does it still receive OTA updates and all the normal things you'd get on stock china rom?
I bought my unit (4/64GB International - BLACK) from gearbest.com.
1. I received it in two weeks with the free shipping option, although i believe the nominal timeframe is ~25 days. The online package tracker indicated the shipment having departed from Belgium.
2. Yes, at least mine was unlocked.
3. I couldn't update mine using the MIUI Updater app.
The unit i received was loaded with something that looks like the Chinese ROM (MIUI 9) bundled with google play.

I think you must have the vendor rom then, nothing is wrong with this rom but I don't think it gets updates much or at all.
You can flash the official Xiaomi rom here:
http://bigota.d.miui.com/V9.6.27.0....DJCNFD_20180907.0000.00_8.1_cn_174c740a1b.tgz
Please be aware you will have to manually install the Play Store as it is a China rom.
Yeah, the device doesn't receive any updates in its stock configuration. After flashing the latest stable Chinese ROM i went with phh's AOSP GSI without the Play Store.
Be happy when you get unlocked Bootloader.. Normaly these days it needs 720hours to unlock = 30 days.
And use xaiomi.eu ROM for "international feeling" (it is based on chinese version, but has translations).
Update: I received my Mi Pad 4 with the "global" rom, it was a shop rom with no updates and a few system app force closes such as the Weather app. I flashed the official China Stable rom and it's working great.

I am in Britain, I chose the China ROM as it is by Xiaomi so most stable and won't brick my device.

You should buy one with the China ROM and sideload Google Play. The vendor ROM doesn't get OTA updates and isn't fully stable.
However if you want an unlocked bootloader, buy one with a vendor rom and then flash the China stable ROM, this is because the vendor ROM is already unlocked so you won't have to wait to unlock the bootloader.
Isn't it better to buy one with unlocked bootloader and flash xiaomi.eu rom?

Yes, buy the international vendor room one that comes with an unlocked bootloader, then flash the China Stable like I did or a custom room of your choice like xiaomi.eu

Hi, I have just ordered an MI Pad 4 plus. Only after it was shipped I noticed it is one with "international Rom" or vendor Rom. So I am guessing it will have the bootlocker unlocked already but how do I update it to the Original Rom so I can get future Updates? Any guidance would be very much appreciated. I am a little bit new to this and not that tech savvy.
Thank you

As soon as it arrives the bootloader will be unlocked, this is required for the tablet to boot a vendor rom. Just follow this once you get it: https://en.miui.com/thread-4590474-1-1.html
Feel free to message me if you run in to any issues.

If you need a bit more information, download the fasboot rom from here:
https://en.miui.com/thread-4590474-1-1.html
And flash it using this guide: http://en.miui.com/a-234.html
Remember when you flash it use one of these options:
flash_all (Flashes and wipes data keeps bootloader unlocked)
flash_all_lock (Flashes and wipes data and locks bootloader)
do NOT use the option to save your data, doing this coming from a vendor rom will cause a bootloop.
Hope this helps.

Black Shark 3 Pro Bootloader Unlocked Global Rom

Got a few PM on this already, and saw that videos are starting to be posted on this.
MOD EDIT: LINK REMOVED
Clearly shows that it's done just like mine. And shows the global rom as well.
I can say my experience has been great. Signal on att and TMobile seem to be the same, they work great. I also have used Verizon as well.
The phone has got 5G on TMobile in a lot of places.
The software now on global seems faster, no Chinese pop ups etc, no forcing you to use the stock browser when clicking links etc.
The telegram user posted earlier in another thread here on xda, is the same person who generated the key to unlock mine.
Thanks for this. The only thing not clear yet is whether people who flashed global will get OTA or not
People who flash global rom with unlocked bootloader do not get any OTA updates
which means you are stuck forever on the leaked beta 20.2.24 until someone releases a new version
