Samsung S7 shuts down - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I have a Samsung S7. It boots up fine, you go into APP's or messages, pictures, but after 10 or 15 seconds it reboots or and or, it never operates normally. I would like to know if there is a way to fix the phone. Or if there is a way I can get all the information off the phone. Pictures and text messages.

I can't believe no one out there has had this problem. Can it be a battery problem? Can I load old firmware with ODIN? Any help would be great.

If you're unrooted , it's really strange to witness such an issue . Backup your stuff including the internal storage and then boot into recovery using the Vol UP + Home + Power button together . Scroll down to wipe data/reset . AFter it's complete .. reboot .
WARNING : This will wipe your phone completely including the internal storage . SO backup
If the above solution still doesn't work - FInd the latest firmware for your device from sammobile.com/firmware and flash it through odin

All set. Loaded the latest firmware this morning and I am all set.

The screen of my gs2 twinkles/flashes in some apps. Help please

[/YOUTUBE]Hello,
I've had my gs2 since last year and i'm happy with it. I have used the stock Rom 2.3.5, CheckROM v4 and now I'm using v6 of checkROM.
But.. Sometimes the screen starts to twinkle / flash when I open some apps. I have found this error with facebook, twitter (oficial), video (stock one) and open feint screen. I cannot use the app while it's twinkling, but the status bar does not twinkle and I can open the notifications, I can hold the home button and the recent apps dialog appears and I can select an app from there or just press the home button. However, menu and back buttons don't respond (the last one does it if I press it as a crazy kid).
If I kill the app in the task manager, the app starts to work but not fully. The first screen of the app works but if I go to other screen -> hello twinkle. For example, Facebook timeline works but if I open a notification, a profile, a groups the app starts to twinkle.
If I reboot the phone it works for a while but after few hours it appears again. I've seen this error in the stockROM and CheckROM v4, v6.
What could it be? Has anyone seen it before? Any ideas of how to solve this problem? Reboots eat and drink my battery.
Here is a video!
Thanks
EDIT: I thought I posted this on the Q&A Section, could somebody move it?

+1 .I have the same issue from the day I bought my S2 but to claim warranty I dont know how to recplicate it to service center. Have observed it many times in FB app... I dont think its ROM issue its purely a screen issue
@JJEgan I will try to do that. I'm downloading the correct stock firmware.

I don't think is a screen issue. If I kill the app, it starts to work in a way (unless I move inside the app). If I reboot they all work.
Unfortunately, I cannot take the phone to service center because I bought through expansys usa and I live in Venezuela

It worked! I formatted everything, flashed the stock ROM and the problem seemed to be gone.
Now I'm back to CheckROM v6. Thanks!

After 9 mo, starts freezing and rebooting itself...

I have i9300 w/stock 4.1.2 rooted. The last few weeks, it started freezing and sometimes rebooting itself. Sometimes it will freeze and not respond with lock screen on. Sometimes it will not respond to pushing a button to wake it up when screen is off. In the beginning, it was once a week. Now it is once or twice a day.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions?
Thanks!!!!

I can link you a quote about the freezing

The phone freezes when writing data to an affected eMMC block.
An eMMC block is affected, when it's internal block pararameters (as f.e. write count for that block) are in such a state, that these parameters trigger a corrupted block without SD-fix (4.1.1) or trigger a freeze with SD-fix (4.1.2).
When a phone is hitting an affected block with a writiing operation is completely unpredictable.
So these freezes can occur on almost each situation on the smartphone when it writes data.
But you have indeed a higher chance to trigger a freeze when writing much data.

Here is a link to that tread click here
If you don't like the freezing i would suggest to flash a stock rom like MB5 or something newer many people reported that they newer had freezing with those roms including myself i used MB1 , MB5 and MC2.
Instruction on how to flash a rom (THIS IS ONLY FOR GT-i9300 International S3 model)
Instructions For Flashing Firmware:
1. Download the firmware (download I9300XXEMC2 here provided by Faryaab)
2. Extract the firmware only once when you get a .tar file don't extract it any further you should also have another file there a small one named something like SS_DL.dll
3. Open the included Odin (click here to download uploaded by Faryaab)
4. Turn off your device
5. Put your device into Download MODE (Home + Volume Down + Power)
6. Connect your device to the PC
7. Click PDA and select *.tar.md5
8. Then finally click START!
When its done your device should boot normally but its recommend that you wipe data and cache for best performance (this will reset your device)
9. Put your device into recovery mode (Home + Volume Up + Power)
10. Chose wipe data then wipe cache and then chose reboot .
Here is the original tread were i got the firmwares and the guide click here
What is strange about my experience is that I never had it at all before a couple of weeks ago. And now ... Nothing changed except perhaps a couple of new apps.
Hummm....
Try a factory reset first.

I linked you a tread about the issue , the bug is in eMMC and the phone dies after about 9 monts but as you have an early 4.1.2 rom with a bug fix that prevents it from dying it starts freezing but the rom i suggested should have a newer fix that doesn't involve freezing . I installed the newer roms because i feared my device was going to die and i don't have warranty , also factory reset should help you but it would only last a few days if you have the SDS issue then it would start freezing again. If you have warranty on the device then stay on that rom and hope your phone will die so you can get it to samsung to fix it for you or you can flash the newer official samsung stock roms and hopefully get rid of the freezing .
Sorry for my english i learned it by playing mmorpgs

[Q] It keeps rebooting

Im Argentinean first of all and I'd bought my new GS2 3 days ago on mercadolibre.com.ar (a site like ebay.com) to a guy that imports it from factory. After of almost 50 days of waiting, i did got my new mobile phone, when i got it i'd upgraded to JellyBean with the official samsung rom, and that's when the problems showed up, the top left corner come overheat turning off the device, over and over again. So after some failed testing I'd chosed to change the kernel to Siyah expecting some performance improve but it become kind of worst because when the screen blackout the device just reboot itself, but if i keep doing something on it nothing happens, just when the screen comes black.
So i guessed that it may was related to the kernel, so downloaded another official rom jelly bean, this one was a Pre-Release rom, that some time ago i'd installed on a friend's galaxy s2 and it worked fine (despite the increased battery drain). This wasn't any solution though, because it keeps rebooting when the screen comes black.
I did tested to turning on without the simcard and microsd card, with the same results.
Another fact is that if i left the music playing and turn of the screen with the power button, nothing happens, it works perfectly.
It seems that is some kind of trigger when the mobile actually suspend itself doing really nothing.
Now i dont know what to do, should i test some custome rom/kernel?? should i get the chances to use the warranty? (implies to send again the device to china i guess ¬¬)
Please help, and thanks in advance.

You should try custom rom. Try to Flash Neatrom or any stock custom rom.
Hope it solves your problem.

Firstly, you need to verify that it's a genuine S2. Turn the phone off, take the battery out and post on here EXACTLY what you see on the sticker in the battery compartment.... Just don't post the IMEI number...

Because your phone is now in Bootloop.
Bootloops can occur pretty easily, it’s mainly caused because system files interfering with each other which causes instability and/or crashes at the boot sequence.
Think of system apps that are compiled incorrectly, permissions that are not set correctly, files from other devices and even an init.d script, everything is possible.
To find the cause of a bootloop you have to think about what you did before getting the bootloop.
Choose one of the following reasons that caused the bootloop for you and try out its solution.
– After flashing a new rom
If you flash a new (base)rom on your device it may not automatically wipe your dalvik-cache, This means your old dalvik-cache will be used for the new system files which would result in a bootloop, to fix this problem:
1. Start your phone in CWM Recovery
2. Go to Advanced
3. Choose “Wipe dalvik-cache”
4. Now go to “Mounts & Storage”
5. Choose “Wipe /cache”
6. Reboot your phone
Note: by wiping “/cache” and “dalvik-cache” you make sure it’s completely deleted, some roms use /data and some use /cache for the dalvik-cache
If the problems still exists after doing that, you could try to wipe your /data partition. before you do that first make a backup of your phone (in it’s current bootlooping state)
1. Start your phone in CWM Recovery
2. Now go to “Backup & Restore”
3. Choose “backup” (it may also be called “backup to internal/external sdcard)
When that’s done you are free to wipe /data, you can achieve this by doing:
1. Now go to “Mounts & Storage”
2. Choose “Wipe /data”
3. Choose “Wipe /cache”
4. Reboot your phone
If the rom still doesn’t boot correctly it’s probably the rom which isn’t working, contact the rom creator then and try an other rom for the meanwhile.

No is not, the cellphone starts normal, and while im using it nothing wear happens, but when i left it the screen goes black and the device reboot itselfs. But now im seeing that doesnt happen anymore, i dont know why.
Still with cyanogenmod rom, i connected the phone to charge the battery, and i saw a tendency of reboots and turnings off while the percentaje comes to 100% and a increasing overheat on the left-top of the phone, i suspect that the problem may be related with the amount of charge from battery and the overheating... Hardware problem?
Well... After all this time my cellphone went through the argentinean official service of samsung and the tech guy told me that he couldn't do anything on my device because he tried installing a lot of samsung official roms and the device was still malfunctioning. So he gave up on it, so i'd tooked it to another service (non official this time) and that guy told me that it may be a non official device, so he wouldnt do nothing on it, because i couldnt get the hardware that possible was malfunctioning. So here im now, with the all money spent for nothing.
My question is, what can i do to know if is or isnt an ORIGINAL samsung device? Knowing that i'll choose how to proceed. Txs!

[Q] S6 Edge keeps random rebooting after OTA update MM 6.0.1 update

Hey guys,
since 2-3 weeks i'm using the 6.0.1 official version which i got via OTA update (everything original on my phone, no root, no flashing any software) for my international S6 Edge.
First i noted havy battery drain and uninstalled a few apps. A weather widge forced the heacy battery drain and my phone worked fine.
Since 4 Days i have problems with random reboots. It started with some reboots a day and now it keeps rebooting after i unlocked sim card and want to use my phone. I managed to put my phone in flight mode and i were able to make a backup of my userdata via samsung smartswitch. I initialized the phone via the software and it flashed the newest version. After it finished it booted up and in the language selection screen it keeps rebooting.
I read about corrupted files due update from version 5.x to 6.0.1 and thought to wipe the phone and flash newest software via smartswitch would fix the problem but my phone is not usable anymore.
Maybe you have any advice for me?
Thanks for your further help!
greets
Bastian
Hi borth87
As it won't get worst, I suggest to flash a clean Stock version.
From SamMobile find the latest firmware for your device model.
After, for the download, I suggest you to use:
[TOOL] SamFirm - Samsung firmware downloader & checker
Just provide Model+Region and it will find you the newer firmware available. Please, before download, check the boxes: CRC32 & Decrypt
Flash the above using the lastest Odin v3.11.1
- Open Odin
- Reboot Phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
- Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
- Add the firmware file downloaed to AP / PDA
- Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
- Click the start button, sit back and wait few minutes
Let us know your path.
Nice regards.

Hi.
I has the same problem. I tried to flash all of firmwares (always STOCK), but it's failed with ODIN all times. Samsung Smart Switch PC software say system repair succesfull (with emergency update repair), but the problem keep joke with me.
Phone don't repond without charger. With PC connection, i don't allow to run restore mode, only ODIN mode. With Wall charger adapter, i allow to run restore mode, odin mode, safe system mode, normal system, but i wiped cache, i do factory reset, i rebooted in bootloader and rebooted system as normal. When i run system in normal mode, language selection show up, and when i press next, phone reboot. When i run system in safe mode, i can select my language, and i can connect to my WiFi, but after i press NEXT at wifi list, phone reboot.
So in safe mode i able to do more one step, but system keep rebooting. Charging screen show battery at 89-90% all times, system start updating battery status from 1% to 100% (1 percent/ 1.5 sec).
Some times red-green-blue-purple rows show at Samsung logo and i got bootloop. Like when i put off my battery from my old phone.

Facing strange Black Screen Problem even after booting of the Phone successfully

Hi,
I'm facing a strange Black Screen Problem even after booting of the phone successfully every time. I can see the lock screen every time for like 2-3 seconds then suddenly entering to black screen automatically if I try to unlock or don't attempt to do so. The phone is able to ring if I try to make a call from other no. but won't able to pick up because there is no option to answer or decline the call. If I hit the power button all power menu buttons are coming like to reboot, power off , airplane mode etc but some how I'm not able to access the phone from inside.
Please note that last time when the phone was running fine I saw one error like android.system.mui has stopped working and everything was crashing so I had to reboot my phone and ultimately landed into this issue. Also my internal storage was like 600-500 MB free that time.
I'm on miui 9 official for Redmi Note 4 ( 32GB version SD 625).
I'm a new member of XDA and I haven't read all the rules yet, so I apologies if I do any mistake please correct me if I'm wrong as this my first post in XDA. I respect all the community guidelines.
Please provide the working solution for this.
A few quick questions as follows
- Do I have to install TWRP recovery for the same to clear cache which i think it may resolve the issue just removing the cache?
- I'm not sure about Miui recovery 3.0 clear data option to clear cache as i don't really want to erase my all important documents, photos, videos, notes in my phone.
- How can I recover my data if I had to reset my device ?
Please guide me for the above issue.
I really appreciate all your concerns.
Thanks & Regards,
Gaurav Kumar
I have exactly same problem, please help with solution.

Are you able to boot into the recovery and use it? Or does the recovery shows the black screen also?
hey I`ve just got the same problem in Redmi note 4, did u find any solution?...
so far what i did till now is, flash Red Wolf Recovery, wipe, DALVICK, CACHE and DATA (not the internal storage where is your info), the wipe is like a factory reset, is the only solution I`ve found so far.
any ideas?

Do you have a unlocked bootloader? If you don't then possibly resetting device from recovery is the only thing.
Does this issue already solved? I also have the same issue but I don't know how to fix it. Please help me
HI
I have the same problem, I tried using the fastboot (power+volume down) and nothing happened, I tried the recovery mode (power + volume up) and I got three options, (reboot, wipe data, connect with mi assistant) the first would reboot the phone to the same problem, the second one I don't want to wipe all data or reset the phone as I want to retrieve the data on it, I tried the third and downloaded the mi pc suite, but the phone doesn't show on my pc, I receive the no device detected even after connecting my phone with USB
I have the same issue on my Mi Max 2!!!
And the developer mode isn't possible to enable, because of this black screen!

I updated my Mi Note 4 system software yesterday to MIUI 9.6 (me thinks), but it is having booting issues. I struggled 2 hours last night to get it started but in the morning I noticed that the fingertip sensor isnt working. I cleared cache, added new finger print, still the problem persisted and then I read on the forum to power off and restart the phone. I clicked on power off and since then my phone is not rebooting. The screen in black, I can hear phone calls, msg notifications. I have tried pressing the power button for 40 seconds (as per the MI Support Tech's advice), followed by using the fastboot (power+volume down) and nothing happened, I tried the recovery mode (power + volume up). Still nothing is showing. The Mi logo and android restart option isn't showing only. The phone is black. I can see navigation light and the blue light blinking on the top left when msg/notification comes. I haven't taken a back up since many many months. I don't want to lose my data. Please help.

No I haven't done flash method. I don't know how to do it.
i experienced the same thing with my mido . boot logo and splash screen appeared normally . when it goes to home screen , it is totally black (but the backlight in blackscreen still working if i press finger scanner or power button) . press power button , the menus shows ! restart , shutdown , boot to recovery , fastboot , et cetera ... i've already clear cache , dalvik & fix context in twrp , but after all it's just the same .. just black . when somebody's calls , the phone's ringing but i can't answer it . the daily alarm's still working but i can't snooze it . please i don't want to clear my data / install any other roms .. Thanks ..
please apologize my bad english

Why don't you throw your data in a PC or a memory card? Also guys if im not mistaken you can not rollback from MIUI 10 to an earlier version if you update via the OTA right?Or else your phoned will be bricked am i right? Someone confirm this cause its risky.
Solution for mi black screen.
Hello friends,
I think the issue in sensors, because when i bump my mobile on my hand the screen wake up suddenly but some time screen in hang position but when i try it one or more time its working normally .
Same issue
Hi, I recently updated to the 9.6.2.0 in my Mi note 4 and after reboot it started to go off and on (only the backlight (touch layer worked)). I rebooted several times and get it going. after few minutes went black again and after reboot the fingerprint sensor stopped working (HW diagnostics saying error if you try to test it) and then the battery status started act weir. If i plug phone to charger, no matter how many % i ve got it charge only 1% (after hour or so)and if i unplug it lose 5% in 5 seconds and stays there for amount of time till the battery reach the same percentage as the indication is sayin.
TBH pretty weird and pretty annoying.
And yes it is probably sensor ( or a driver? ) because turning phone up-side down or covering the proximity sensor osometimes help.
I dont want to wipe my phone until it is necessary.
Is it because of update?
Thank you
