How can I force the mate20 pro phone to use the built-in mic on phone calls?
I am switching from an iPhone 6s - so far it is a bit of a mixed experience: great device, but curved edges are... pointless, blue tinged screen when looking at an angle, play store downloads get blocked by photo sync (very non-obvious), terrible terrible plastic portrait photos that remove half my eyebrows, and face id is somewhat unreliable.
But the one that will see me return this device is phone calls are not using the built in mic. I have an (expensive) mic-less 3.5mm headphones I use via a google USB-C adapter (the one supposedly supplied with the phone wasn't in the box). When the headphones are plugged in I can hear the person talk, but they can't hear me. The phone doesn't seem to detect the headphones don't have a mic and revert to the in-built microphone like my iPhone 6s does.
Is there any way for me to force the device to use the built in microphone and ignore the headset - for phone calls at a minimum, and everything else if possible.
Changing headphones is not an option. I love them more than I could any phone.

well i will let you know the moto h700 worked like **** on mine the volume was low. If i wasnt in a busy restaurante and in my car with windows up i could barely hear anything i want to know what people think also

I have the exact same problem with my Motorola HS820 bluetooth headset, extremely low volume, voice command never understands what I'm saying........it sucks!

Ones I have tried:
gennum nxgen 5500 plus - http://www.gennum.com/audio/index.htm - the only one that was worth using it actually cut out the background noise i had a bus drive pass me my gf never even heard the bus i could talk on the phone while in the bathroom and my gf could not hear the echo it worked everywhere it took a while to charge but its not bad and was a bit flimsy it broke after about a month and a half because the ear clip broke off in my pocket now having read around i wish i had kept the broken one and contacted gennum because as i have been told other places if you call them and tell them they just ship out replacements barely even asking what happened the one i want to try that i haven't is the gennum zen headset which looks to do the same as the 5500 plus but is a little more stylish in my opinion and has a technology called leap which helps with face to face conversations with people in crowded areas as well although the downside to these units are there are not many places that carry the 5500 plus especially around me here in tennessee and the only place that carries the zen headset is ecost.com which if by some odd odd chance i didn't like the zen headset i couldn't return it because because ecost.com only allows you to exchange for other items on their website and with 179.99 price tag for it i am not gonna risk not being able to get my money back being more then half as much as my phone
nokia n80 - not to bad but so small it would miss direct the mocriphone and pick up something else and not my voice and hurt the inside of my ear picked up alot of background noise
jabra jx10 - had a big problem with it charging i tried 3 none charged turned out to be a bad charger once charged it picked up alot of background noise
motorola h500 - picks up background noise is loud enough most of the time but gets uncomfortable and rubs the outside of your ear canal raw if worn all day
motorola h700 - does better with background noise and is loud enough most of the time love the charging time 45 minutes to do a full charge but also get uncomfortable and rubs the outside of your ear canal raw if worn all day
plantronics m3000 - don't bother just background noise everywhere
plantronics voyager 510 - picks up less background noise but is just a bit big even though it is light although for the most part it is secure all the time and fairly comfortable
plantronics discovery 640 - great but after long perisods of wear after about a month or so the eargel begins to wear thin on the back and get rough and ended up rubbing my ear raw on the inside
plantronics discovery 645 - haven't tried it yet but from everything i have heard the battery life goes way down the drain when used with the dsp turned on and doesn't work that great anyway
motorola - hs850 just flops around to much on the ear as well as not loud enough and doesn't have any noise reduction and pics up all background noise
plantronics explorer 320 - really hurts the inside of my ear didn't even give it enough time to try thoroughly but from what i could tell it picks up background noise everywhere

Im using the hs500 and for the most part its been good. I agree as it may pick up background noise but its the most comfortable headset ive ever worn. The range is also pretty good but i havent compared this to other headsets.
I also have a jabra bt800. This headset is feature packed but is just too bulky. It bothers me when i have it on too long and i dont really want to go out in public with it. It even has caller id though.
My question ..
Is there any headset that works with voice command? Im suprised microsoft havent pushed out a fix for this.
Also anyway to listen to media player through my motorola or do i absolutely need a stereo headset

hbh-662 works great, good sound volume and the sound is better than using the handset itself.

I am. I had nokia phones for years, that is why I have the ck-7w. I have the speaker going into an adaptor so it is using my car audio speakers instead of the speaker they include.
Sound quality is very good, and there is plenty of volume. I have had conversations with the windows down at 70 mph. No one has ever complained they cant hear me. Although, I do naturally raise my voice when I am talking on it.
An issue is the voice dial. I didnt have many problems with the included voice tag software (although there were times it did not work) But using MS voice command has been a problem. When it does work, it works great, it always recognizes what I am saying. But it seems after making a call or two with it, the car-kit button stops working. A double press will redial the last call, and then a single press will end it, but a single press or press and hold (what is supposed to start voice command) no longer does anything. And voice command works great from the phone.
My only other issue, is when I get an incoming call from someone on a cell phone in my contacts list, sometimes I cant hear them at all and they can barely hear me. I never had this problem from an incoming land line phone call, and all outgoing calls are fine.
Actually one other thing (though it is not an issue for me) anytime a call comes in, the phone (I have an 8125) sends a generic ringer to the car kit. Whatever ring tone you have specified, rings from the phone itself, but not from the car kit. I really dont care about this, but others might.
I would just really like to get the bluetooth connections fixed.
Cardo Scala 500
I am a big fan of the Cardo Scala 500. I bought one three years ago, and was very pleased with it. When it was broken earlier this year, I decided to try some Moto products, none of which provided the noise cancelling that I needed...I spend alot of time in my car...so I went back the Scala 500, and I absolutely love this headset.
It's comfotable to wear for as long as you need to, the noise cancelling works exceptionally well, it comes with a lanyard and a belt clip, and it's inexpensive! It is compatible with voice recognition programs, and the volume is fantastic! I actually find myself turning it down. I have bought both of mine on eBay for about $40 shipped.
I highly recommend this headset.
SCALA is cool
Yeah Scala is really great, I amazed at its capacity to remain charged. I have charged it less often and it remains charged. Real value for money, connects smoothly to my O2 Mini S. No problem with voice activation. Great volume. Simply super.

I have just purchased and tested this product. It cost just £22 from Ebay. Quite a bargain really. The build quality is quite poor. However, the D2 does fit quite nicely and you don't need to fiddle with it too much to get the mini USB connected. One strange thing is the side flanges. They do overlap the green and red phone buttons slightly, so you could find yourself accidentally calling someone when inserting the D2 into the cradle.
Once in, it is an excellent product. The sound quality through the car radio is superb. Even driving through London (where the airways are filled with legal and illegal radio stations) there is no interference with this transmitter. I have tried a few of these type of FM transmitters and can happily say this is easily the best so far. The volume on the D2 needs to be turned down to about 13 or 20% on the HTC, otherwise you will get some distortion when playing loud music.
Re-tuning is a breeze with the back-lit LCD screen, if the frequency you have it on has some interference.
One problem is making or receiving a call. When a call comes in, you can hear the ringing through the car speakers. However, this device disables the D2 microphone and does not have one built in itself. The only work around for this is to have a bluetooth headset. Therefore, once a call comes in, the bluetooth headset will then provide the sound and microphone and so you can speak/hear as normal. The car speakers will be disabled once you accept the call through the bluetooth headset. Obviously the headset will need to be connected first. Personally, I use a small programme called bluepower. This turns on bluetooth on my D2 when it is being charged and then turns it off (to save battery) when it is not being charged. Therefore, as soon as I put the D2 into the cradle, it links with my already paired bluetooth headset
So, I can now sit in my car with my D2 charging, playing music through my car radio and make/receive calls using my bluetooth headset without any problems....
All sounds great doesn't it?
However, there is one small problem.
If I choose to listen to a different radio station, I will not be able to hear my D2 ring or hear when an email/text comes in, or to the voice guidance on my iGO8 (not that I use it).... You may consider this a safety feature because you don't want to have this distraction whilst driving do you? Obviously you can still see these events in the usual way, if your screen is turned on. This is not such a huge problem I don't think, but some might.
Perhaps it will be easy to be able to somehow link up a working microphone with this system and have a rather decent hands free system, but I don't know how to. I have seen other threads which have also described this problem with other such systems, but never a solution except the bluetooth headset one. Maybe someone can suggest a registry tweak for this or a Mortscript programme???
Anyway, to conclude, I am very happy with this purchase, especially at the price.

will the Pure fit in a TD2 cradle?
Will the Pure fit in a TD2 cradle? The bottom ends appear to be differently shaped. Is it close enough that the two can be interchanged for a cradle like mitsi posted?
I want a nice cradle with a built in usb plug so I dont have to figit. The proclip one is too darn expensive. Whereas the custom fitted car cradles for the TD2 are plentiful...
Mic For the FM Transmitter ALMOST !!!
Well like you i bought one of these fine products I did come across a couple of issues (and work arounds).
1. At certain output frequency's the GPS did not work ??, noticed that when the power to the FM Tx was removed the GPS signal returned. as I tried different channels the interference varied so worth looking out for.
2. Again at different output channels I would pickup the mobile trying to make a connection to the network (approx every 10min), again changed the channel the effect varied from bad to zero.
Microphone, I took my unit apart and the pcb has the position for a MIC marked on the pcb but no mic fitted. I took out a mic from the supplied handsfree kit supplied with the phone this fitted and off I went to try but no luck.
On further investigation the mic needed to be wired pack to the usb plug BUT the pins for the plug are enclosed in the glue used to hold the plug in position and there were no leads off the plug to wire too !!!!!!!!!!!!
But like u the unit is still worth the cash

I'm thinking about buying bluetooth headphones for my Touch Pro 2. So far the only one bluetooth audio device which i used was BH104 from Nokia but it wasn't for listening to music but for talking - so the quality of sound was very bad.
I would like to don't have a cable connected to rhodium in my pocket - so bluetooth headphones could be good for me. For example this one : http://www.jabra.com/Sites/Mobile/ee-uk/Products/Pages/JabraBT3030.aspx Anyone used this or other similar headphones with rhodium, blackstone or similar device? I would like to know something about sound quality. Is it better or the same like from Creative EP630 which i use now? What about battery usage with bluetooth headphones?

I don't have any experience with the headphones you mentioned, but I have the Moto S9 HD's and they're pretty great.
I use the jabra bt3030. it's okay, but due to the design, has no noise cancellation and picks up wind and background noise during a call.
Note, the bt3030 are not really headphones, but a small dog-tag looking adapter for any 3.5mm headphones you like. the included chain is too long for comfortable use and the detachable clip is a bit flimsy. i use them primarily with retractable cable over the ear headphones from sony to listen to music and generally just have the bt3030 dangling from the headpones at whatever length is comfy. sound is good, using with video can be a bit much if you're watching divx or similar heavy codecs.
Firstly, thanks for info's. Yes, i know that i can connect every headphones to bt3030. I have headphones to connect, all i want is the wireless listening to the music. So if the bluetooth connection is good, then sound quality will be good too. I just wanted to know about dog-tag. How about bass level with it?

I use sony hbh ds 980 stereo bluetooth headphones and they work great. you wear a necklace which has two ear buds on a wire. on the controller you can see who is calling, scroll through contacts, call history and use voice command. as far as music there is a volume rocker, track forward and back, play/pause. Music comes through loud and clear as does calls. I never had any complaints as far as people hearing me either. the batterey lasts a full day of heavy usage. Let me know if you have any questions.
I use the Sony HBH-DS970 and it's AWESOME! I've had it for many years, used it first with my Touch Pro, now with the TP2. The battery is getting weak though, when I first got it it lasted for about 6 hours now it's about 3. When I get a new one I'm gonna get the new version (HBH-DS980). Both versions have great features: Caller ID, separate volume controls for calls & music, you can pause/play, skip (forward, & back) music & videos, The "call" button on the cord not only lets you take and end calls but it also lets you access "Voice Command" which is great. Oh, and it pauses your music when calls come in & starts it again when you're finished. These are "stereo" headsets and the sound is incredible, deep bass and all. They come with VERY soft in-ear "buds" that you won't mind wearing all day (different sizes) VERY comfortable. I can't say enough good things about this headset. The only bad thing I guess would be that it doesn't have replaceable batteries. Oh, one other thing, if you are overclocking your device make sure to disable whatever overclocking program you're using before connecting & using the headsets (that causes all kinds of issues and freezes when you're pausing & playing; among other things, not quite sure why). When you're done with the headset you can turn overclocking back on.
P.S. DO NOT buy this off of eBay! I did that to save money, they are fake, they last for about two months then fall apart. When I got the "real" one I could NOT tell them apart even though I knew which one was the "real" one, those fakes are that good. Get it from amazon or somewhere you already trust.

I use the Plantronics Backbeat 903, they work amazing for both music and call quality...I've experienced with MANY good bluetooth headsets, they ALL at times fail with in call quality...from motorola, jawbone, plantronics...Ive never purchased the cheap sets, and regardless, theyre bound at some point to have an occasional call where the other party mentions some sort of weirdness to the call quality...the Backbeats have had very few instances of this...they're "considered" multipoint as they can be sync'd to multiple devices, but only for music, they do not have "true" multipoint, as the jawbone does, to handle calls to two phones simultaneously...regarding the music playback quality,...amazing

Okay, this one confuses me, just came from a Motorola Droid X and when I had the phone docked in my car with it connected to my stereo via 1/8" (headphones) jack it would feed the sound from any incoming calls through my car speakers. I really liked that as it made for an easy hands free system that I didn't have to pay any extra for.
I have noticed with the Rezound however that when I answer a call it uses the phone's speaker just as it would if I had the phone on speakerphone. This is annoying because the built in speaker is not that loud when you factor in the road noise. I find myself leaning forward to be able to hear the phone and not focusing on the road as much.
Is there any way to make the phone feed the audio through the headphone jack to the car speakers?
It seems like it would just assume that if you had a headset/speakers hooked up that you would like the audio to go through them, or there would be a setting somewhere but I haven't been able to find one.
The "headset" icon is displayed on the notification bar when I plug in the audio cable so that leads me to assume that the phone knows it has a "headset" connected even though there isn't a microphone.
It just worked on my previous two phones (Droid X, BB Curve), can anyone else tell me how to change this behavior? Or at the least test it for yourselves and see if you get the same results?

The only way I have found is to exit Car Mode.

I have had various handsets in the past two years (HTC Desire, HTC Desire HD, Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus) and I have used all those in my car hands free via the AUX socket, i.e. successfully making phone calls and playing music whilst driving
I recently got the S2 and when I connect it to the AUX in the car, music is loud and clear but when I when in a phone call the other person is struggling to hear me even with all volume levels set at max. I can hear them clearly though.
I know when the S2 was first released there was a hoohaa about poor call quality especially the microphone volume being set too low by default etc.Could this be what I am experiencing? I am in doubt because on normal calls (no AUX) the other person can hear me clearly and I can hear them.
Is there a fix for this issue? It is important for me to be able to have calls in the car.
I am completely stock I9100 ICS 4.0.3.
I have tried with and without cases without success, currently have a barely there case on.

First off, you said you have an i9000, which is the Galaxy S1. Did you actually mean an i9100?
Second, it could be a hardware issue. There is rubber housing on each mic; the lower mic is used during regular voice calls. The upper is used for noise cancellation, but also it is used for the primary microphone for speaker phone mode and car mode. I had an issue with speaker phone mode where the rubber housing on the upper mic was not seated properly, so on speaker phone, my voice was muffled. I had to open the phone up and re-seat the housing on the upper mic to get it to work properly.

Sorry it was a typo, I do indeed have an I9100 aka S2 (corrected it on OP).
So the NC mic is used for car mode? The thing about the S2 is it doesnt visually show on screen when a headset/mic is connected hence I didnt think there was a car mode as such.
I may have the same issue as you, was it relatively simple to disassemble the back and relign the rubber?

Yes, the NC mic is what picks up sound for speakerphone/car mode.
Overall, I personally found that breakdown is pretty simple. Check out this post. It details a fix for echo due to issues with the rubber housing, but it gives you an idea of what to do. Focus on the top mic; if you're not having issues with regular voice calls, don't mess with the bottom mic.
You'll need a phillips screwdriver from an eye-glasses kit, and something to pop the case apart. I used an old credit card. Be careful when popping the case apart, the power button and volume rocker can be easy to lose.
If this seems daunting to you, and you are still under warranty, just take it to an authorized Samsung repair center.
