Easy Projection and huge fonts and icons - wrong DPI - Huawei Mate 20 Pro Themes, Apps, and Mods

Hi,
so I've switched recently from Samsung S8, when using DeX mode quite often and today's tried EMUI Desktop for the first time from my new LYA-L09 (UK EE EMUI 9 version 122).
And was really disappointed seeing huge icons and big fonts, which almost renders EMUI Desktop useless. TV shows 1080p (same resolution as for S8, hub Ewayfa). Even tried to wipe cache and finally restored factory settings with no joy.
Also spoken to Huwaei UK support line and was advised there is incoming heaps of fixes within month.
Anyone having the same issue?
Thanks

i want to try it with the HP elite x3 Lap Dock. Can say more on saturday.

Same for me
Hi
It all seems to have started after updating from emui 8 to emui 9... It was not like that in emui 8

I agree. Happened to me immediately after I upgraded to EMUI 9. Having said that, when I FIRST plugged my HMDI into my device after the upgrade I had an option pop up onscreen. It asked me if I wanted small, standard or large Icons. Having zero point of refernce, I chose large. When I saw that this was clearly a mistake, I decided to go back and look for an option to try the other sizes to no avail. There was no way to retract that fateful first decision. Never saw that option pop up again-- not after a restart, not after trying 2 other monitors and a TV.

Hi, no changing that has no significant effect, to get that popup again right click on free desktop point, 'change size' or something similar.
I think the only way, at least for me knowing too few on how the desktop mode works and which system files it uses, is to make the customer care aware and hope in a future update.

Upgrading to EMUI 9 - lost 1080p on Desktop mode also

You, Sir or Madam, are a godsend. This solution is so ridiculous, i would never have been able to guess it. And no-one on the whole wide internet seems to have discovered this either. This error has been driving me crazy! Thanks!
Also, i made an XDA account just to say this.
Fix playing Netflix video (There is a problem playing the video. Plse try again (5.8)
Go to setting, select wallpaper. Select its default (still wallpaper), not any animated or other still wallpaper. Select the default wallpaper for, Home and Lock screen. Then, click set as wallpaper. Restart or Power off. On your tab, walah...magic. Your Netflix video will run smoothly. It works like magic, as simple as that. Mine is Samsung Galaxy Tab S, Android of course. Try it. It solved my hectic & stressful life without Netflix for days.

The update is for carrier devices, not U1 devices. Your have to ODIN to N950U firmware then apply the OTA.

My device is a carrier device on stock nougat. It is a Verizon Note 8.
Hey guys, I just got the OTA update on my Sprint Galaxy Note 8 as well, and so far I'm loving it! But I'm experiencing a Google Play error, "DF-DFERH-01, error retrieving information from server"
So I went ahead and cleared cache and data, uninstalled Google Play updates, and did the same thing to Google Play Services. I went as far as factory resetting my device, and I'm still recieving the same error. It wasn't like this before I installed the update 2 hours ago.
I wanted to know if anyone else was experiencing the same thing?
Edit: Just like magic, Google Play seems to be working again. Finally to enjoy Android Pie at last!

^^ Also had / have same issue as well. Mine however is a carrier unlocked Galaxy Note 8 and using Sprint service (not rooted). I did clear cache, have not tried factory reset but thank you for informing me as I've been trying to determine the next course of action. Also, my menu / ui / settings / colors (font / backgrounds / forms) have partially inverted, so that all titles are almost close to #000 (solid black) with form boxes inverted to white, (making this close to impossible without some guess work what invisible text says) and it seems like there's an error with the themes (now back to complete stock and it does not change the colors at all from the inverted manner nor will it allow me to even switch to dark mode). However, I just got this installed maybe 15 minutes ago, so I will continue trying to figure this out and test to see if any other functions are not working properly. Have you found any other others yourself and or a way to fix the Google Play error?

Ah, that sounds odd. As far as I know, Samsung made changes to the way themes work on the Android Pie update, so I'd guess it might be possible that your themes were screwed up in the process. Is it also like that on the default theme? Everything seems to be working normal on my end, I'm still using the default theme
As for the Google Play error, I didn't really do anything else after I had cleared cache and data, and uninstalled app updates. I went off to continue setting up my Note 8, came back 25 minutes later, and Google Play worked normally as if nothing had happened.

So what I learned from a couple of quick experiments, to ANYONE downloading & installing Pie for the first time, I highly advise uninstalling all forms of themes, launchers, roms, etc. that are not stock as with the theme changes in Pie, that is what seems to mess it up and I am going to test to see what can be used with it after. The Google Play thing lasted me a few hours since it was earlier today.... but makes me wonder if they did a silent correction as I've heard others that didn't get that error after mine seemed to magically work again too.

I see. In your first post you asked about N950U1 devices, which is the unbranded factory unlocked model.
Yes this update will work on your device. But you can't apply it directly over your current build. You'll have to update to whatever the current Oreo build was first.

Samsung S9+ display has blurred, whiter color after latest october 2020 update!

Hi folks!
I have an issue with my Samsung S9+(G965F) display:
After locking the screen and reopening it, my display turns into a blurred, whiter color everywhere, menu, settings, no matter what I check.
These issues came for the first time after the Android 10 update from April 2020, now I got the latest update on the 30th of October 2020 which didn't fix this issue!
My software version is G965FXXUCFTJ2/G965FOXMCFTJ2/G965FXXUCFTJ1
Security patch level: October 1, 2020
One UI version is 2.5
Android 10.
After hours of Youtube, forums and other sources I got a temporary solution for this:
If the Always On Display is set to Show always, then after reopening the phone has its original color like it should be...weird! If I tap the screen after locking it then the AOD appears as well and the colors are fine.
The problem with this solution is that if I lock the screen and want to reopen it quickly in 1-2 seconds (before the AOD comes up on my screen) then the display color is once again blurred, whiter.
The problem appears only if the AOD is off or appears too late on the lock screen.
I have tried also many solutios but until now this is the best that I found.
Other tried solutions:
Google Play Books app, blue light off doesn't work!
Samsung factory Blue Light filter settings doesn't work!
Display settings don't fix this issue!
No other themes are installed, only the Samsung stock, blue theme is installed on my phone!
After I installed Nova Launcher I tried to find the Night Light app in it , but I couldn't.
Maybe in the old Nova launcher version there was one but now there is not.
Wipe cache partition delete, doesn't work!
Reset and Factory Reset doesn't work!
Check the attached screenshoots which were taken with an S8 because my S9+ takes just blurred, whiter screenshoots, strange!
First and third photo are after AOD appears on the lock screen, 2nd and 4th are without AOD on the screen lock, blurred and whiter!
Any other ideas maybe?
Thank you in advance for your replies (hopefully I will get some) and sorry for my poor english
Love , peace & understanding!
Best wishes: adrianonimus
Find app called "OLED Saver" and install it. It's available on google play store.
App will control your phone light but before you start using it turn on your screen light to maximum then adjust from app to what ever level you want. I had similar problem and this worked for me, using it for more then 2 weeks, not happened even once after.

Hi ivica122!
Thank you for your reply, I tried this app also, not so bad, wonder if the factory brightness has to be set always at max, how will this influence my battery....any observations about that?
In fact my problem will be if I want to sell this mobile to someone and have to say something about this whiter screen...
I was waiting for the latest software update with big hope that this bug will be fixed, but unfortunately they didn't....
At least with this app I can turn off the AOD
But anyway, this is a solution, but still waiting for a software fix or whatever...
Thank you for your answer, have a nice day.
Yes, it will be a problem if you want to sell it, i also hope some update will fix this but starting to doubt.
About battery life - with oled saver you can lower down phone brightness as much as you want, you can even use auto brightness from oled saver, it will keep your screen problem free and battery will be used like you lower down brightness from your phone. I didn't notice any difference. Look at the app like override of phone brightness functionality.
You know what, maybe you can try downgrading it to the latest android 9? If that fix a problem you can sell it like that, because when i was reading about this all people that has a problem said that problem started after upgrading to android 10.

Translation: Going back to android 9 and android 8 did not work, the same goes on
Hi! Just want to inform you guys that even with the latest minor updates from the last 3 months I still have this problem, I'm now on the latest version: G965FXXSEFUA1
Android 10
One UI 2.5
Security patch: 2021.February 01.
So no fixes here at all.
As I said before, my phone display colour is clear only if I open the phone with the AOD always on, so that I can see it.
If I will open my display before I see the AOD, (1-2 second) the colours are blurred, whiter, so no change here at all.
If I don't use at all the AOD then the display is always whiter, blurred!
My phone is not rooted, I don't want to root, and the OLED Saver app is only a kind of solution...of course the display is better with this app, but if I will sell my phone I will have to say something about this issue, so I'm afraid I will not get a good price....
I want to change my phone and I want to believe that this issue is not a common problem on other Samsung phones, even if I read about this problem affects Note 9and 10 also...
So, help me GOD!
I'm not in to this anymore but have you tried to find the way to downgrade it to android 9? Here on xda? I will try to find.

OK, but for me is not so easy this, I use my home also for work and if I do this with Odin the security changes will stop for my enterprise stuff....so only the factory reset is my solution, anyway let me know about, thank you.
Factory reset will not delete that? I'm not so sure I think it will delete all installed software and remove all logs and cookies and stuff like that, but good luck, i'll downgrade mine as soon as i have time and will write here if the problem is solved.

Tomorrow I will make a factory reset, I will tell you what's up after, waiting for your downgrade result, thank you.
Btw, if your downgrade is successful you will upgrade also to the latest Android 10? Or you will stay on the 9?
I already did factory reset to my phone a couple of times and that didn't help, because the problem is in firmware and some people noticed that problem started with ui 2.0, which is part of android 10, so i will not upgrade again to android 10, i will stay on 9, i don't care about android 10, i really don't see much difference, i only want camera firmware upgraded and that happened with latest android 9 for this phone (night mode, for example), that's all i need so i will be very happy if 9 is working like i remember it, with no screen problems at all.
I don't know why i find this now and not earlier but it seems that samsung phones can't be downgraded, at least not from android 10 to 9. I bet people who new this are now laughing instead of telling us that it's impossible but i just tried and failed, you can't downgrade from newer binary to older. So oled saver app will have to be enough.
This is very disappointing from samsung, first they update my phone with faulty firmware and then don't allow me to go back to older one that was good.

Yes, I guess is only possible if you root your phone before the downgrade, I saw here something about, but I will not try with my phone as I'm not interested, I just wanted to know if somebody else has this problem and maybe there is a fix for it, unfortunately it looks only this OLED Saver app is an option.

I honestly think mine started after I dropped the phone. I could be wrong.

UI 3.1 crashes Default Launcher Tab S7+

So, my tablet updated to UI 3.1 but now anytime iI try to open a folder on the home screen, with it be a folder of normal downloaded apps or side loaded apps, it crashes the launcher. Luckily I have Nova Launcher on here as well and that opens and runs fine with no crashes. Has anyone else seen this or am I the odd man out?
I had this last night, attaching files to Gmail or one drive crashed the files app.
You need to go to settings, apps, files, press the three dots at the top right then uninstall updates.
Sadly the app will likely update at some point so if it happens again you'll need to redo this, hopefully a system update fixes the issue.
As for nova launcher, I have been using the tablet for two days now and I have noticed that it drains battery and uses quite a lot of system resources, default ui doesn't have these issues.

Hi there Johnnio and thanks for your info sharing. I had the very same problem with my S7+: couldn't attach any file in emails or similar. I followed your advice, unistalled to previous version and now it works! What was it anyways? I'm now in android 11 since some days but with android 10 everything was just fine.
By the way, since I'm here I take advantage to ask you another thing. In android 10, while moving up the 'recent apps' line on the left I could scroll the apps holding them with my finger. Now with android 11 I cannot anymore. If I move up the recent app line I see the apps there but cannot scroll them. Im' I missing something or it is an 'improvement' (?) of the new os?
again, thank you for your advice.

Hi there, I'm guessing that the update to Android version 11 has introduced a few bugs, I expect that the files app issue will be resolved with a future update.
As for your question, I unfortunately think that this is simply a change in the new android version, there may be a setting some where to change the behaviour but unfortunately I haven't been able to find anything relevant.
Sorry that isn't much help.

You have been of great help indeed! I have been struggling to solve the app file for hours and in several forum included the Samsung members one. You have been the man!
As for the recent application scrolling I'm afraid it is a choice of the designers. In fact I have a Samsung phone with android 10. The phone settings for the recent app feature are identical only it allows the scrolling while the S7+ ain't.
Will see what's comes in the next update.
Is there a way to mention this to Samsung so to ask to get it back?

Roku app with Expert Picture Settings

So for the last year and a half or so, the Roku Android and iPhone apps just completely crash with "Operation Error" whenever you try to change Expert Picture Settings on them. Which makes HDR significantly worse on them, especially the 2017 models which need some serious calibration to look decent.
Roku keeps updating the TV software and the Android app, and the problem persists. They even have the gall to just close any topics made about this issue on their forums as "Resolved" any time they're made.
I'm guessing this is being done deliberately. Would anybody be capable of creating a custom version of the Android app that will let you use Expert Picture Settings?
Unfortunately, none of the older apps work. Any of them that don't immediately crash when opening Expert Picture Settings don't actually work with the newest TV OS updates.
No idea if this is the right place to post something like this. But since Roku is clearly not going to fix the problem...
EDIT: According to this Reddit thread
https://www.reddit.com/r/Roku/comments/jwg3rj
the problem appears to be the Android version. Android 11 devices will auto-crash. Older devices running Android 9 work fine.
I do not have a working Android 10 device so I can't test that out.
EDIT #2: Managed to raise my Pixel 1 XL from the dead. Android 10.... auto-crash.
Unlocked the Bootloader and flashed Android 9 to it. It works with even the newest Roku app! unbelievable that this would be the problem. Is it possible to fix this for newer Android versions, maybe?
Does anyone know if the official Roku Remote app works fine with an Official LineageOS ROM without Gapps, especially private listening
Thanks

I literally just calibrated one of the Roku TVs in my basement. I also checked and there are a few versions after this one that let you access advanced picture settings and these versions also don't prompt you to update. I skipped ahead to 6.0.15 and that does prompt for an update so definitely not that version or beyond.
Anyways, I found the advanced picture settings page may have a never ending loading icon when you click on it with Android 12 (at least on my OnePlus 9 Pro). I dug out my old Nexus 7 and it worked perfectly. Also, I had used this on Android/OxygenOS 11 many months ago on my OP9Pro and it worked with no problems, other than the app sometimes wanting to freeze, but you can still get your calibrations in.

ah yeah so I have Pixels. I didn't have an unlocked bootloader on my main phone, but I happened to have my old Pixel 1 XL laying around. the battery LITERALLY died in under 5 minutes when fully charged, so it was worthless, but I kept it plugged in and figured I might as well try it out with this since some people with older devices said older versions of the app still worked for them.
On a whim, I tried installing older Android versions, and eventually it worked! The older Roku apps only worked if I had Android 9 on it. Android 8 didn't work with versions of the app that still worked with my model of TV, and Android 10 had the same "Operation Error" issue.
I'll give the APK you linked to a shot, but I have my doubts it'll work on my Pixel 4a 5G with Android 12, and I'm definitely not gonna downgrade the OS on my main phone just to get this one app working for advanced picture settings lol

Why don't you just use the old Pixel 1 and keep it plugged in while tuning the TV?
And the version I linked is confirmed by me to work on Android 11 (well, at least on OxygenOS). I have no clue if it'll work on your Pixel 4a 5g, but it had an indefinite loading animation on the advanced picture page on OOS 12.

No, yeah, I can do that. I'm just worried the phone will literally stop functioning at some point. I'm not exaggerating when I say the battery lasts less than 5 minutes on a full 100% charge. And any repair shop charges like $200 to replace the battery.
So I'm hopeful that I can just.... use my main phone, y'know?

Yeah. And I can understand the concern. If it does get unplugged in the middle of calibration, I will say that everything you entered into the TV so far is already in there...you don't have to save anything.
Lmk if it works on the pixel with Android 12. That would be even better!
