Best ROM that supports MIUI 10 like fullscreen gestures - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

Hey guys, I really love my Pocophone, but I can't stand the Mi Ecosystem apps, everything from the browser, calendar, clock, contacts, file manager, gallery, etc... as I prefer their Google counter part, now it's not a deal breaker for me, I can deal with them, but I wanted to start flashing different ROM on my phone, like the Pixel Experience ROM. The thing is that I saw how they handled fullscreen gestures and it would be such a downgrade to what I have on MiUI 10, so I wanted to know if there is a ROM with Google Apps and a similar navigation gestures that remove buttons on the screen or if there's a way to just remove those apps and replace them with their Google counterparts on MiUI 10 with a little tweaking.
Thanks!

^^^ This!
As a US user, I feel as though MIUI's gestures and UI is generally lightyears ahead of Google's and until the F1 starts getting dedicated developers or at least consistently updated ROMs I don't have many choices.
In the meantime, my strategy once the bootloader unlock timer runs out is to find scripts and apps to uninstall/disable the bloatware and just run it on every update. Currently xiaomi EU has a Poco f1 build but it probably has some of the default miui apps like notes, browser, etc. I'll have to test out some ROMs tomorrow

[Q] MIUIv5 questions

Apologies if this is the wrong forum, I was unsure where to post it as the MIUI rom is not fixed to one phone in particular...
I have just flashed MIUIv5 for my HTC one X phone, absolutely love the rom, the graphical user interface and just about everything.
Unfortunately I am struggling with the launcher. I really love the launcher, but not being able to edit the shortcuts or change the icons with a few clicks is a killer. All the big third party launchers offer this simple feature. Quite a few third party apps end up with ugly icons with a background.
Can anyone recommend an MIUIv5 style launcher that could allow me to edit the icon/app short cuts on the desktop? I have played with Nova, Apex, Holo and they all get close with the various icon packs but the layout just doesn't look the same. I don't need an app drawer either so the MIUI launcher would have been perfect but for the icon/app issue.
Also, as much as I love this rom, many of the system apps installed I really do not or would not use. Coming from CM and AOSP roms, I would prefer not to have the system monitor apps, root monitor apps, app control, MI credit, cloud and whatever non essential apps. I would prefer it more like a bare bones rom. So my question, which of these system apps can I remove without causing rom instability? I like to install apps, play in root etc without multiple warnings, notifications for this and that.
Otherwise, fantastic stuff. I can see me being an MIUI user for a long time.

ex jailbroken iphone user needs help

Hello kind strangers,
Have searched for the last two weeks for answers to my questions/needs/requirements but have come up with zilch.
Would very much appreciate your assistance.
I've rooted my htc m8 and flashed viper on it, I'm very pleased so far with the performance but and it's a big but, there are a few things lacking .
Here's a list of what I've been looking for:
1. Something that allows me to quick compose, quick reply, etc text messages from the lockscreen without me having to switch off my security password /pattern.
I've tried textra and glowfly, but none of these hit the spot.
I've been using Activator on my iPhone for years and am very surprised that Android doesn't have something similar.
Is there somethin like activator that allows you to make your own custom gestures as well as allowing you to change the functions of your hardware buttons?
Viper allows you to limited gestures etc, I want to be able to do gestures etc on my lockscreen, that actually opens apps and does things as opposed to taking me through the unlock process (am I goin too far now?:/)
2. I haven't used tasker yet due to being so new to Android, but have heard great things about it and will be looking into this more.
I'm assuming tasker allows users to swap profiles?
3. Multiwindows: I understand that Omni Rom comes with this function, but I don't want this Rom:/
What would be the best way to multitask without having to flash another rom?
4. What's the best floating app that you guys have used?
5. I really like customising my phone, viper does allow this , but is there another Rom that does this better without me losing sense? I thought I would dislike sense but it's started to grow on me.
6. Lockscreen apps - I've looked at both widgetlocker and dashclock and none of them appeal cause of the lack of security.
Is there somethin g that intergrates with the stock lockscreen, which will display notifications better, allow theming , widgets, as well as help with point 1 (quick compose and quick reply etc)?
I apologise in advance for the noobish questions, but I've spent more than a week searching for the answers and haven't found anything.
Would very much appreciate your input and thank you for taking the time to read this post.
Regards,
Swat Valley

Welcome to android.
Many of your wants and needs can be met by using the mod called the Xposed Framework. This little guy allows "hooks" on to various calls to the system and redirects them to the Xposed Framework and the modules that you add to it. With this enabled you can do everything from stop ads to mod the status bar, lock screen, themes, and so much more. One caveat: This is currently not working with ART runtime, but not likely you are running that anyway on the One yet. It's also already included in your rom.
Notifications from a a Pattern/PIN/Password locked screen:

(yes it says for the GS4, but the module is listed to work with the One as well) http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.labtech.mod
Custom Gestures:
Lockscreen -

MultiWindow:

Different interpretations of multitasking. There are also tons of different side bar type apps that you can access from swiping from an edge of the screen to activate shortcuts to your favorite apps, contacts, settings, recents, etc. that are accessible from anywhere but the stock lockscreen.

Glovebox https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fb.glovebox

And so on... (my fav is Swipepad, especially after the last update which improved the performance greatly)
Floating apps:
Sorry, don't really use them.
Custom Sense roms:
Not saying Viper is the best, but you won't really find much that will be MORE customizable than a Viper rom. There are a few on the same level though, such as InsertCoin, Renovate, SkyDragon, and RayGlobe currently.
Lockscreen:
You can enable adding widgets (also in Settings > Security) and the AOSP lockscreen (like on a Nexus device) from the Venom Tweaks app as well. I like some lockscreen apps, like WidgetLocker, but at the end of the day, the 3rd party lockscreen replacements are either lacking in functionality(there are some that do have good security options, most do not), use more battery power, and end up lagging because when you wake the phone it might take a sec for the app to turn on as well where typically the stock lockscreen will be instantaneous. As far as Notifications - well, the phone has that option too, under Settings > Security > Notification Settings. Another alternative is some like Metro Notifications https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nlucas.wp7notificationslite which displays notifications a la Windows Phone style (and iOS) as banners, giving you options to swipe to dismiss or click to launch.
Hope that will get you started on your quest.

Galaxy theme store for note 2?

I was just wondering if any one could port S6 r S6 edge theme store app to our beloved note 2?
& would it work or not...?
any flashable zip or apk, may be...
I can't say 100% because I'm not familiar with the S6 or the app of which you speak of but it would seem to me that Theme support needs to be built into the firmware and the theme changing app itself is only the front end of that whole system (kind of like the steering wheel, pedals and dashboard in car allow you to drive and operate it but are only a small part of it). Transposing the Theme app alone into a Note 2 firmware which has no theme support would be like taking that steering wheel out, sticking it on a couch and hoping the couch would take you places.
I can totally understand why you'd want Theme support though... Samsung's Note II UI is mind numbingly ugly. I have NII as well and am still on root stock FW as well. I personally don't want to flash a 3rd party rom. I've swapped out most of the samsung apps for more modern looking ones to refresh UI a bit (ADW launcher with marshmallow theme, google messenger/photos/calendar/chrome, k9 open source email client with daytime theme, true phone for dialer and contacts, VLC for video, PowerAmp with White Plastic theme for music, Clock L/Camera M from app store etc). 80% of the UI looks really good now: flat, bright and modern. The only holdouts are the notification menu, the system dialog boxes, the part of the dialer that actually makes the phone calls and the system preference app. I'm actually seriously considering decompiling these apks and modding the UI to make it look like Marshmallow or Lolli. I'd probably post them if I do. I'm still on 4.1.2 though and I don't know how many people are still on JB for the note 2.
If you decide to install 3rd party apps to modernize your phone, be sure to read very carefully the permission section (especially the Misc part) before installing them. The fewer permissions they need the better. If an application is asking you for a permission that doesn't make sense for it, install something else. I would highly recommend a firewall to block internet access to apps that have no business going on the net (like camera, dialer, contacts, clock, launcher etc). DroidWall is an excellent firewall, bit of a pain in the ass to setup initially but totally worth it.

rooting without unlocking? RR like experience on stock? second space on RR?

I'm happy (almost) owner of note5 (7SG) using it several days and still waiting my 360h... which little sux, but thats ok. I was using custom ROMs mostly RR all the time with all my previous phones.
Never used MIUI launcher before and I know why now after trying that... Maybe that is a taste problem, but not having drawer - sux.
And with this phone got several questions which can't find clear answers to... so :
Original ROM:
1. Is it possible to root without unlocking bootloader? Without TB it's pain to migrate everything from old phone...
2. Is there a way to have trebuchet launcher ported somehow from RR? (nothing that is close to it and works in play store)
3. To have Fling gestures navigation bar (like in RR)?
Probably that would be only problems that I have now... and why I want move to custom ROM. Otherwise there are things that RR will be lacking compared to stock:
1. No way to have "second space" like in MIUI ported/installed to RR? (not only for app like some "parallel space" app does but for whole desktop)
2. call recorder , automatic call recoding (on RR it's not working no mater what)...
Yes, you can root also install twrp and also install a custom rom with a locked bootloader but all of this require some carefullness methods, when you will tired to wait and have decided you have to use edl/download mode to try this.
I also dislike miui launcher without app drawer but I found finally an app from Play Store that doesnt change the icons the way it means that like this app it hasn´t its own icons so it uses exclusively from the system, its name is "My Drawer" cause the others really looks horrible and it´s like have two launchers.
About Trebuchet launcher you don´t need to port it, it´s compatible with miui and also you have better like Lawnchair launcher that is an open source with many features available.
For gestures there are many apps in Play Store so maybe this would be the one con, no fast responsive like aosp based rom, I didn´t try yet "Navigation gestures" from XDA devs
Im sorry...but under settings you actually have a way to hide the navigation bar and use the phones exclusively by gestures... is that what you are talking about?
mi phone is not in english, so cannot exactly say what is the option...but it should be something like "Full Screen Show" or something like that, it gives you an option to go "full screen" and then it teaches you how to use the gestures (cause you'll lose the nav bar).
Hope that helps in something...

Question Will there be ROMs for this device?

Just being curious ... will there be any ROMs for the Zenfone 9?
Lot's of small things really bother me and I would love to fix em by using a custom ROM. But I am not sure if I should keep the phone since my last one also had no chance of ROMs wich bothers me still.
The Zenfone 8 is supported by LineageOS, maybe the 9 will be too.
I sure hope so :/ I had zf8, now owned by my wife, and I hoped this would get similar support.
Chill out a little, its only been what? 2 months since the release. Porting a device takes time and effort and is done by volunteers. I expect there are going to be ROMs for this device, I think it is just a matter of time as IIRC Asus sends out devices to ROM maintainers for them to play around with and port out.
Chances are good as Asus shares Kernel sources and has a quite open policy. Also, software support by Asus is limited so chances are good someone jumpes in.
I agree, it takes some time before custom ROMs will come out. However I personally don't feel any special need for a custom ROM yet, the ASUS ROM is clean, fast, smooth, a bit customizable and with a good battery life
Which is true, but specially support of third party launchers is horrible on gesture navigation. When you go to your home screen, most of the time, the device thinks it needs to "stop" or "show" the launcher as an open app, which really bothers me. Never had this on any custom ROM so far.
Also, I would love to get more customizations. What we have is great and all, I really love the effort they put into it. But in some parts, I would love to see some custom juice here.
But that's just me being an UX designer, doing his thing
Well, with A13 not anymore. There is no more home gesture bug, it works smoothly on 3rd party launchers. I'm using Niagara and the experience is great finally!
Not sure what you mean on custom ROMs, as the bug was a A11 and A12 issue, not custom or OEM ROM issue. I had multiple ROMs on my previous OnePlus 7T Pro and the home gesture was the same on all ROMs on 3rd party launchers. It was due to how Android worked with the recent apps menu as it wasn't separate from the launcher, but was using the OEM launchers' recent apps, so if you had a 3rd party launcher, the original one was still running in the background, providing the recent apps menu. That is why the but was there. So no custom ROM could have fixed that.

This is awesome! My only main gripe with Zenfone 9 is that I can't make icons on home screen and app drawer bigger. Tried using Nova or Lawnchair but they were buggy. Now I can't wait for A13 beta to hit my device.

the interest of a custom ROM on a device like the zenfone 9 is obvious, it allows to increase the duration of the software support which Asus ends after only 2 years.

It requires some folks to volunteer to develop the custom ROMs, such as Lineage. It is unofficial if the person's efforts don't meet the long term requirements for Lineage and those who maintain the original.
I'm in the process of learning how to make an AOSP ROM myself, so if I succeed you'll see a thread from me about it!

How is the beta for you? Do you have any screenshots or links with the changes that have been made? Thanks.

Beta doesn't really feel like a beta, no major bugs discovered yet, nicely suitable as a daily driver. Here is the official changelog:
Please back up your data before upgrading to Android 13. If you want to downgrade your device’s software version to Android 12 by official software package, it will erase all data from your device’s internal storage
Upgraded system to Android 13
Revamped Mobile Manager, Contacts, Phone, Emergency Dialer, File Manager, Calculator, Clock, Gallery, Weather, Sound recorder, Settings, Data Transfer, Local backup, and so on
Adjusted Quick Settings panel, notification tray, and volume panel to Android 13 design
Added the notification permission feature. You can adjust the permission of each apps in the Apps & notifications Settings
System clipboard added "Auto delete" and editor features
Added the QR code scanner option for the lock screen shortcut feature, and the Control from locked device feature in the Security & lock screen setting
According to Digital Wellbeing setting, system color scheme can be set to automatically switched by the bedtime option
Adjusted the Vibration & haptic strength setting, Display and font size setting, and the width/length of navigation white bar when choosing gesture navigation
Changed to the Blocked numbers setting in Phone to stock behavior. You will not receive calls or texts from blocked numbers
Removed the Call duration setting
Added the Themed icons option in the Wallpaper & style setting. Support more color combinations
Added link quick share feature in ASUS Launcher
Some 3rd party apps are not compatible with Android 13 yet
Seems omnirom will be out for Zenfone 9, at least lots of activity at their git
