Help porting TWRP, root, etc - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'd like to see if anyone would be willing to help me port Twrp and/or root any number of devices.
I'm primarily looking to set up an alternative to TwrpBuilder and official TWRP

All devs welcome

Yeah, the information about what devices, what Chipsets etc is missing so there aren't much ways to help.

If I understand correctly, you wanna build twrp and root as many devices as we can.
That's kind, but to build and maintain for a device, we should own it, if we don't we won't test anything on it and TWRP may be buggy and crap some device.

I posted this before it was tested. Now its been edited.
I'll be posting my test branches in github and will link in this thread. Anyone willing to contribute is more than welcome.
So far the normal methods for booting CWM are not doing so well on the Moto X. Might require something proprietary.

Thank you very much. When I saw this thread it looked like you had already tested it. It was confusing when it said "tested. does not boot." so I tried it out to test it. I'm all for development but I was misled in your original post so thank you for editing it.

Please don't misunderstand me. As a person that donates, I do appreciate all developers and I will open my wallet for my appreciation. I just don't want anyone to be mislead and blame you for any wrong-doings. If you need a tester, don't hesitate to hit me up! There aren't many of us (yet).

Currently all my Recovery experience is minimal, and the basics are not working for the Moto X. Tried with CWM Builder too as a backup, and no dice even booting to a blank screen with adb. Nada.

mattlgroff - great to see you working on the moto X
There are many that are less concerned with bootloader than they are with root (myself included). I know you're working off a Verizon flavor, I'm on AT&T - what do you think the chances are of getting root without cracking the bootloader open?
I did a few searches and haven't seen anything come up.
Thanks again for your hard work.
Possible fix
Hey, I don't have a Motorola X, but I do have a Motorola Droid Razr M and I've been experimenting with getting the Moto X sbfs to boot on my Razr M, (which I have), but I ran into issues with the devtree loading up the touch firmware, so I'll have to wait for kernel source.
However, I did fool around with the boot images for the Motorola X and realized that the ramdisk offset isn't set in your BoardConfig.mk
Try adding:
BOARD_MKBOOTIMG_ARGS := --ramdisk_offset 0x02200000
And rebuild

please develop this OS for this device...
I will really appreciate your work if you will do that..
In your previous development you have developed Custom ROMs Like CyanogenMod, Resurrection Remix etc.... But Sailfish OS is an unique OS which is well polished (comparatively to Android).
This will be your last and most unique development for this device..
So please accept my Request...

I answered you already there is nothing more to answer. Sorry. I do NOT have the time to do this anymore. I am doing this as free work for the community(what I did). Nobody is paying me and I do not demand paying. If I told you I do not have time it means I will not continue developing.
Peace out. If you want to port this read the internet because you have all the sources needed to do so.

Use what's available. Most devs quit development for this Phone and don't ask weritos, he is busy with CM13 for our device.
If you want performance then install stock KK or JB.

This is a low end, low interest phone (and an oldish one too) so I think the search for a custom ROM is vane.
ROM are developed by people owning that phone. No dev owns one of this, so ther'll be no ROM.
I think the best we can do now is to debloat it in order to lighten the OS and make it work more efficiently.
I will go this path.

hello fellow xda developers community!

i'm sorry if i take too long to respond on twitter as i rarely hop there (can't blame me tho it's isnt the best place to be in anyway..)
to immediately go to topic here is the link of the Recovery: https://mega.nz/#!5gtmhCjQ!_utHIgyVgHvLW2qPoESeC_XeAlyBAD1sixQxYzIAZPc
my device is broken because bad battery so i'm not using it anymore, tho the recovery is 100% usable
finally if you please just don't contact me on twitter for the recovery anymore because there is a high chance that i'm not going to respond..
that's it enjoy the recovery !!!
an XDA Thank is highly appreciated!
EDIT: Looking back at the answers
There is NOT any custom ROMS for that particular device so please don't waste your time on looking for one and only debloat it
right now there is a TWRP for this device to use so that's that
thank you. yeah, i received the file by conctanting him on twitter because it was not here before )

It would be a good start to inspect a Chinese firmware AND inspect an international firmware.
I doubt it would be encrypted...pretty sure that's illegal as Android is open-source

As @winxuser said "I have kernel source but I'll have to make a device tree.."
It will be done I'm sure as he seems determined to find a solution for custom ROM. A tall task, but anything is possible.
I came from Samsung A5 (2017) and it took a long time to get that going.

So you don't have the actual stock image for this phone if you do I'd really appreciate it if I can get it from you. And I guess I don't understand what you're saying are you telling me that I need to upgrade TWRP or you use that and that's what bricks your phone. Thank you in advance
