Boot loop after installing latest update from LineageOS lineage-14.1-20180719-nightly - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My fellows and friends,
One of these days, I received an update from LineageOS and when installing it from OTA ( using TWRP ), the first lines ( about 10 to 15 ) from the istallation sequence activities were all red, showing that something went wrong. Immediately I removed the batery to stop the process and installed the first version of the custom rom, using the TWRP. It worked fine and I received some notifications about the new revisions of the rom. I skipped the one that caused problems and accepetd the download the one on the Nov, 17, 2018 of the rom, and had installed. It appeared to me that everything was ok but, one day I turned the phone off during thje night. The next morning, I tryed to boot the phone without success. It started an infinite loop situation..... So, I tryed to repeat the same procedure to install the very first version of the rom using TWRP at the recovery mode. When I was using the TWRP to perform the advanced wipe, the dalvik cache, data and system could not be wiped. The answer about the problem was shown as : failed to mount /efes ( inavlid argument ).
I got the information that, in cases like that, the stock rom should be installed. I downloaded it from www.stockrom.net and had it istalled with the use of Odin. Unfortunately, the boot loop was there again.
What was worse now was that no TWRP was installed and Odin could not recognize the phone, although I had installed the newest set of drivers from Samsung, applicable to any devices from them.
Please I need your help to see if there is a possible solution to solve this case. Phone Model: GT-i9300 SSN -I9300GSMH - in Brazil
The message I got from the phone: E: failed to mount /efes ( inavlid argument )

I thank you in advance any help from you guys,

Flashing a stock ROM will always replace TWRP with the stock recovery.
Are you trying to flash the latest stock ROM?
Do you have a backup of the EFS directory? It's an important directory as that is where a lot of information, including the IMEI is stored.

Hi Audit 13, thnaks for replying.
No I don't have the back up for the folder you mentioned. I was trying to install the last stock rom downloaded from www.stockrom.net, which I suppose was the last one. The worst part is that to computer does not recognize the phone since then.... I do not know what to do. I suppose that there is not a way to back up the folder you mentioned. I think that I have to install something from the very begining, as if the phone was to receive the installation of the very first program, as if it was just coming from the factory, totaly clean. Is that so? Am I right? And, how to do it? I tryed to download the stock rom from Samsung, but I think it was difficult and could not have it accomplished.
Thanks a lot and I'm still waiting instructions of how to solve this problem.

You should try using different USB cables and different USB ports to recognize the phone.
I assume you are using Windows since you mentioned Odin. When you connect the phone, do you see any new devices appear under Device Manager?
What is the phone's model # in download mode?
Is the the ROM you used: https://www.stockrom.net/2015/11/stock-rom-original-de-fabrica-samsung_19.html ?
Did you try using Odin 3.07?

Hi Audit13!
Thanks a lot for your help! I've already got hte files you mentioned and am preparing for trying to do the procedure you taught me.
Thanks again and soon, I hope, to be back to confirm whether it succeded.
Bie....

Hi Audit13,
Unfortunately the computer is not recognizing the SGS device.
I was ready to install the sock rom you suggested, had downloaded the Odin 3.07. I use Windows 10 and the latest drivers have been installed. The phone was in the download mode and tryed all available USB port. I've waited some minutes in each USB port for recognition with no success.
I thank you for your help. Is there any other method we could try? If you could please indicate, I thank you again.
Is there a method available using ADB procedures?
Hope there is.
Thanks, anyway for the help.

Hi Audit13
I think that the situation got a little worse. I tryed to do some recovery on the emergency recovery mode, but none of them succeeded. Now, what I get when tryng to get to the recovery mode is an android robot with an open belly with a red triangle coming out of it.... It gets to thedownload mode, but no recognition from the computer. This happened after trying to ionstall the stock rom obtained from the site you mentioned. The only thing that I could do was through the Universal-Android-Diag-Enabler-V2, what made the qualcomm start. Is there a way to make a comand to the phone that could star the USB debbuging? I tryed the various ODIN versions but with no success.
There is another problem - I'm using Windows 10 and the PowerShell uses different command lines not recognized by adb. I tipped devices and the program indicated that there was an mistake.
Is ther an Instructions Booklet for Odin?
What is your opinion? Do you think that there still exists a solution for my phone's case? If so, what to do?
Please, I ask you to help me on solving this problem.
Thanks in advance...

Hi Everybody,
I was trying to install a new version of cyanogenmod that held kitkat, worked, but heres the problem. After installing the new rom i wanted to put a different kernel. This specific kernel I wanted was not compatible with kitkat, but i wasn't reading, so when it was booting up it was stuck at the Galaxy S Cyanogenmod booting screen. I turned it off and put the device in cwm recovery. I was going to put the right kernel for the device but the SD wound't mount. I looked for a solution, which led me to odin. When I started flashing the status was frozen at nand start write. So I stupidly unplugged it, so now I am greeted with a Phone+!+PC please help me!

Without seeing a picture of the screen, I'm going to have to assume the screen is a blue color with a picture of a computer on it.
If so, that's not a problem at all. That screen is basically the same thing as ODIN/Download mode.
With your device on that screen simply replug in your USB cable and reflash with ODIN.
If you could provide a picture of the screen, I could definitely say for sure that your device is good to go, or not.

If you're talking about this above, then do as Higgs_Boson said above. This is just a force download mode, and happens when you improperly flash something.

I was JUST in this situation, after fooling around with Ubuntu and the UnbrickerResurector, I was able to come back from Download Mode using the .pit and bootloader files from this thread...Flash them in Odin and you should be set.

[Q] Soft Bricked Nexus 4

Hi there, first of all I need to say that I'm sorry if I started this topic in the wrong section, second of all sorry for my english. Hope that I will be undrestood.
On my Nexus 4, I was running CM 11 custom ROM, and I've heard about the brand new one named Lollipop 5.0 . I've found Mako build for that new ROM and tryed to flash it via Rom Manager (Play Store). It runned smoth without any issues even if it's just an alpha release. But one day I've checked my storage tab, seen there that almost half of entire memory it was full, and I didn't had than just a few low space requiered apps. I tough about it and I realised that Lollipop ROM was installed OVER CM 11, of course not the ROM by itself but even if it wiped all data before to install the Lollipop, all junk stuff from CM 11 remain there.
So i wanted to reinstall a fresh copy of that Lollypop by using Nexus Toolkit.
Things would have been fine if my computer suddenly restarted while processing the flashing ROM, right after it wiped everything or something like that. Bad luck, huh?
So now I've got a soft bricked Nexus 4, where bootloader apparently still works but without recovery wich now it's replaced by and android dead icon and over that big red triangle, and when pressing the correct combination of volume + power buttons should give me fastboot, instead of that I'm stuck on "Download Mode". One more thing I forgot to mention, If I'll boot up device and run straight without pressing nothing, it will pop out the Google loading screen and it will stuck there, doing nothing.

I've read many threads about how to unbrick devices. Still got no answer because they refer at other soft brick posibilities, that includes pushing backups or what requires to simply flash them by fastboot or ADB, the problem here is that those posibilities will be great if I CAN get acces to my phone, what that means is I cannot run "USB debugging" to get my device being recognized by computer in this dead stage. Even my drivers are installed and "Download Mode" is active where should, as I read, grant me the acces to device even if it's not waked up completely. And second option to unbrick it leads me to the recovery mode (wich is dead) and restore from there a previous backup, and even if I had access to it, I DON'T have a backup.
So the big question for you guys about this annoying mishap: "Is there still a possibility to push files from computer to device, or I need to visit an authorized service?"
Thank you in advance. Peace.

Can't root this phone, is there a possible fix?

Hi, I am trying to root this phone using the guide here: bbs.elephone.hk/thread-9919-1-1.html#.WGr04lzUHIU
However in Windows 10, nothing happens when I hit the download button, and in Linux this error happens when using the files I got from the guide:

}
this is the same PC, with Ubuntu and Windows 10 dual boot
I have tried the fastboot method, but I can't get my bootloader to unlock, the vol up button simply doesn't register on the phone.
So is there any fix? Or am missing something?
Problem solved! Windows 10 doesn't like the drivers provided. However Windows 7 does, so I advise that you keep your Windows 7 install somewhere
Follow this it will explain what you need to do. I had same issue with Windows 10 but rooted my P9000 no problem. I used FlashTools - all the info you need here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/elephone-p9000/how-to/how-to-guideline-install-mtk-drivers-t3344042
I gave up following tutorials on elephone.hk forum & just followed tutorials from here, but whatever your personal preference - hope it helps ;0)
Need my elephone back
Not sure if this is best placed here???
So....tried to flash my Elephone P9000 using the SmartPhone Flash Tool and all the steps provided tutorial at:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/elephone-p9000/how-to/how-to-guideline-install-mtk-drivers-t3344042
Using Win10 so it took me a while to disable the driver signature enforcement option to get the drivers installed. Got that done and all..so far so good.
Download all the files as the tutorial says...clicked download and connected the phone which was powered off. Up pops a messages "PMT changed for ROM; it must be downloaded."
Google search for this and came across some pages that informed me to click on the 'Format' section in the Flash Tool
Did this and then went back into 'Download' and hey presto, the flash worked and I got the big green tick.
Lovely stuff...until I tried to power on my phone....dead in the water. Power+Volume Up does nothing, power on its own does nothing. I've downloaded loads of instances of the Flash Tool, tried the elephone stock ROM scatter file, recovery image files etc and still nothing. Read loads of similar pages where it's happened to others but just wont work for me!!!!
Can anyone help?

this usually happends when your flashing with old preloader... try installing CM13 with updated preloader, it should work.
Thanks Ruben, I managed to get the green tick in the sm flash tools using the 'Elephone P9000 Preloader_Lk_Boot_Recovery update' scatter text file.
Phone still wont power on at all and i can't access the sd card to copy across any ROMS so I'm back to square 1 by the looks of it. I'll keep pluggin away at it.

factory reset and flashed another rom via fasboot, but reboot stuck at the start screen, just like the left one on the photo I submitted.
Do another unbricking, and everything back to the state I reported.
It's confirmed to be a hardware problem, when the monitor is replaced, everything back to normal.
I think there is problem with build.prop .. try google ... To restore build.prop
It seems that the Kernel is also affected so it must be hardware problem

I tried several qfill file from severals sources and always the same result. I even try to go on and flash TWRP and RR rom but screen stay that way.
Please, I'm seriously desperate right now... I need your help guys and looks like i'm not the only one.

It was solved without replacing the screen!
Ok so, I did as shown in the topic : https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-max-2/help/flash-eui-rom-fastboot-t3525831
download twrp (The one I know didn't had the touchscreen issue)
boot from twrp (wish I had know about it before!) and not from one installed
upload zip file to /sdcard ( here's the catch, while in TWRP in don't have access to adb, the phone doesn't connect to pc or I don't know even I mount it, could be me. So i just put the archive at the root of the phone before booting to twrp from adb)
install rom
reboot
And ... it's ****ING WORKING!*
Really big thanks to ThE_MarD for his help!

That's what I tried but as stated in the last link, I had no connection to adb while in twrp after cleaning up.
Anyway that's settled for me, it's mor for other that have encountered this as well. Replacing screen is not the only way.

my phone doesn't work,

I was trying to flash an MIUI ROM to my phone, so
here is what I have done:
- unlocker the bootloader.
- install the recovery.
- flashed the ROM.
- reboot the device.
after I finished all the above steps my phone have stuck in the boot loop, so the obvious solution for me was to reinstall the stock ROM so I have done that by:
- download MIFlash.
- download stock ROM.
- unzip the ROM.
- then I flashed the ROM.
the flashing process took longer than usual, so i have unplugged my phone and tried to reboot it, then the phone doesn't work, even the screen not working, the only sign that the phone is working is when I plug it in my computer I see MIFlash recognize it as COM20 port.
anyone helps me please.

Please tell us which versions you have tried to install. It may be that you will try to install Android 10 and you were already with Android 11.
In that case it may be that the phone has been bricked. You can check how to reset it in this other post https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/this-way-i-unbrick-mi-a3-no-qfil.4231465/

Greeting,
I ask good people for help, more than a month trying to revive my a3.
It’s a child’s cell phone so I don’t know if update 11 worked so it blocked or the display went off disinfectants.
I made a repair according to "We A3 UNBRİCK Solution After Update Android 11! For FREE exclusive 2021!
, everything went without a hitch.
The current situation is that the phone works if the call if I put the sim card, it normally charges, the display is black and there is no response on the display, if there is one I can't see.
If someone has a suggestion of what to do, how can I know which Android is on it now, how can I know if maybe the display itself is broken.
Thank You in advance.
I don't saw the video but the solution is: download and install miflash tool. Connect your phone to pc in edl mode with a normal usb cable Flash a11 fastboot stock firmware. That's all
