Does Honor 8x have the best camera for its price range? - Honor 8X Questions & Answers

Had to emergency buy a phone as my exchange is out of stock for 3 weeks (?!) and this seemed like the best option... Do you find the camera good having used it? It seems acceptable but debatable as to how good it is looking on my PC monitor. I don't want my Instagram photos to look disappointing on an upcoming trip ha.

I am using for 24 hours now and camera looks good

Pocket Now Axon 7 Camera Review

In this review the quality of the camera seems really good for the price, what do you think ?

Seems he put alot of into the manual customization and got a good product. Seems like the low light camera as is, is pretty much a lost cause. Nothing too new

I don't know if i would call it good for the price. It is a strange choice of camera sensor which seems like it was some kind of Samsung R&D experiment that didn't go quite right. The camera performs fine in prefect conditions, but the low light, the lens flaring, the AF hunt and slow re-focus, HDR ghosting, bad OIS, worse EIS... i hope it's software correctable but i don't think ZTE will put that much work into fixing it and I don't expect Samsung to help either (not in their interest). It has good manual controls except the focus locking, but that means you are bound to miss some shots or walk away with blur. Shame considering other specs, but camera is a big part of the phone now, it's probably the 3rd most reviewed feature after performance and design
Get a G5 if you care about the camera a lot. You can get them for $400 mint condition on ebay easily and the camera is pretty good. Not S7 good but close to second best.
Good, in-depth review

I would probably get HTC10 in that case, not a fan of LG. I am at this point waiting to see what new nexii will look like.
I agree that the G5 is also a good deal considering the price drop, but as I'm going to China next month I'm looking for the perfect chinese phone...
And yes, camera is an important feature of phones now.

Is the camera trash?

Been watching YouTube videos on this device since it was first announced. Looks like a fantastic device, except for the camera. The pictures taken by the 8X and posted on YouTube have been some of the worst detailed and softest/lifeless pictures I have seen from a phone is a LONG TIME. Is it REALLY that bad? It would seem that they had to skimp on something for $250ish and it looks like the cameras got hit the hardest. Oh, one other thing... I spent some time on Amazon India reading through like 800 reviews of the 8X there, and the majority of them listed the cameras as the weakest aspect of the Honor 8X. I'm in the USA waiting for the 8X to be released here, but I may need to give this one a pass. Thoughts?
Not trash but Depends on your taste
Honor 8x have 20+2 mp camera (decent)
Image quality from them have lots of details so don't worry about this
This camera boost the colours specially (red, blue, green)
Which produces artificial like image if you compare from other device from same price range(kinda pre filtered for insta and fb) so good for some bad for some
Honor will fix camera issue bya an ota so don't worry about that
camera is Good for this price range
I think the camera is good in good light. In low light it struggles a bit. Also helps to turn off AI which tends to saturate photos and make them look unreal.
Well, from my experience camera is fine. Especially for this price range. Some websites are maybe criticizing it too much, but for a phone in this price range, it is actually pretty good.
I have switched from P9 lite (well, I still use it as my work phone, but that's beside the point, 8x is my daily driver now) and it definitely feels like an upgrade, camera-wise. Images are sharp, colors are ok, amount of detail is higher compared to p9 lite. Dynamic range is fine - again, for this price point, but it definitely feels better than on p9 lite. HDR works wonders, night mode is pretty darn awesome. If you are into fake bokeh, object detection is actually decent. And pictures are not noisy during the day, indoors they tend to get a bit noisy, but it is nothing deal-breaking for me, and as I mentioned, if You have some patience for night mode, it really makes very good pictures.
In my opinion, you should keep AI off and You will get much better pictures.
Anyway, @xphyle1971 - if You want me to send You some samples, I'd be glad to - just let me know if You want them mailed or attached somewhere.
Also, this is a bit besides the topic, but 8x should get android pie in q1 2019, so that might be something to consider when getting it.
Oh, and battery life is awesome.
Camera is good can get some fantastic results with right conditions and light Gcam as well works well with nice picture results

How can you compare the camera of budget phone to pixel(the king of smartphone camera)?
Battery life is Excellent. I don't game but i watch lot of YouTube video. I get 7.5 hour if SOT
i'd say that with Gcam the camera gets very close to pixel 2 and even pixel 3...
but battery life is awesome on this phone... you can easily get 12 hours of SOT with a bit of tweaking for light use
and minimum of 6hours with heavy gaming...
For this price you cant get a better phone.
Consider buying a used s9 if you don't want to compromise.
The three worst features of the phone are the screen
It haa one of the best camera sensors but has no ois
the bugs good God so many bugs every month they promise so much they say dolby in November now look it's March and they still don't have it. Promised widevine now only released in March.
The Google camera port is amazing as it combines 7 photos to fix noise and shaky hands
As for the main camera the depth sensor is reallllly bad but google cameras portrait mode is amazing.
For video stabilization its only available on stock it is pretty decent for no ois because it is very warpy. Ois is better period.
Each community update they post the problems and say pending could be pending forever lol
Nov where is 4k 60
Dec where is 4k 60
Jan where is 4k 60
Feb where is 4k 60
Mar OK after 130 days we finally have it
When they say they have alot of updates it means security patches.
You can replace fonts with magisk and it's one of the most customizable phones with root and a sizeable battery. It is water resistant as demoed by their companies Twitter but not ip rated to save costs.
Upsides are that it costs little
Has 845 which does play pubg at 60 fps on hdr

you are so annoying, if you are so unsatisfied, why dont you stay with your oh so great samsung and stop spamming against poco! so many postings from you complaining how bad poco is, please let people decide themselves if it is good enough for them. i can tell that after 9 years of iphones (had all models from 3gs to i8+), poco is my first android smartphone and im totaly delighted how good it is, especially considering that it costed only 300€ for 128gb version. of course it isnt perfect, but definitely the best compromise if you are (like me) not ready to pay 1000€ or more for a "flagship".
Thank you everyone for your help
I've just seen an mi 8 phone for the same price imported as the Poco (uk) £220 and I've gone for that,
Ois and NFC sold it too me.

Question Camera suitable for a professional ?

I am looking at buying a phone with a good camera for work, I work in the property business and now and again I will need to take a few snaps of houses for sale for a website. The camera on the 11 LITE 5G seems to have a good camera.
Any opinions if the camera on this is good enough for professional use ? Maybe it's asking too much but the phone is within my price range and any digital camera for the same price is going to have a pretty crappy lense.
Thanks

Matching DSLR? No.
Find the relatively good camera within your price range is enough.
What's needed is the knowledge of photography. How to take a photo good, or at least fair enough to satisfy customer is what you need.
No matter how good the camera is, people can take bad photos.
You can search and compare specs of phones: https://www.gsmarena.com/search.php3?

Quite honestly I would not recommend any Xiaomi phone for its camera.
Especially the Mi 11 Lite 5G (I have it) is somewhat disappointing, it punches lower than expected considered the phone's price. I would not recommend any particular phone because I don't know what your preferences are in terms of other stuff (and price brackets) but don't waste your time on the Mi 11 Lite 5G if you really need a good camera. This thing does not even have OIS.
Do NOT buy any phone without OIS (except Pixel series) if you ever want to shoot free-hand.
The upcoming Pixel Premium might be a good choice for you (it's not released yet.)
Samsung Ultra series (S21 Ultra, Note 20 Ultra) are also good.
Huawei has godlike cameras, but they cost an arm and a leg, and they don't have proper (sometimes any) Google Play support.
I mean, if you get a tripod, it helps a ton of course. But it can't fix a very bad phone camera. OnePlus cameras are bad. Even the 9 Pro camera is "bad". Bad compared to any other flagship brand. If you are on a budget, Pixel 4a series might be OK, but they don't produce high res pictures.

Truth.
Or get a used DSLR body and some used L glass for it.
Example:
Canon EOS-1DS Mark II, 16.7 Megapixel, SLR, Digital Camera (Camera Body)

Question Horrible video chat quality

I own the Pixel 6 now for a few days and day by day I'm more disappointed with my decision.
In general the phone is just too heavy and thick for a 'non pro' phone. I wish they stayed smaller like in previous generations.
But what really shocked me today is the video quality of the front camera in video chats (WhatsApp in my case).
It's just super zoomed in and blurry. I look like a bearded baby. Even my 4 year old OnePlus 5 performs way better. Did you make the same experiences? Do you think this can/will be fixed in future updates?
I'm seriously considering selling it again and getting a Pixel 4a or OnePlus 9 instead, also hoping for better battery life.
There is just so many little things, like the fingerprint reader, that make this phone feel half baked and not stand up to its price tag. Are you guys happy with the purchase?
I'm happy but if you aren't just trade it for something else.
Don't hold on to something you don't like or have too many issues with.

Does that software allow you to zoom out? A *lot* of camera software assumes that 1.0 is the minimum zoom level, but these cameras zoom out to 0.65 on the away-facing camera, or 0.9 on the at-you-facing camera.
