So whenever I left wifi area or turn off the wifi soon after the mobile data gets automatically turned off, the icon of it shows not just for specific app.
Even when I turn off the data saver, it doesnt help.
This is very bothersome as I will miss alot of stuff.

Anyone experiencing or heard such problem with Huawei Phone? Need help.
Are you talking about missing notifications?
If you enable Developer Options (settings/system/about phone...then press build number 5 times) then in Developer Options there is an option you can tick to always keep mobile data active. I use it for faster network switching and it doesn't have much of an impact on data use or battery drain.
But if you are talking about missing notifications that might not solve your problem.
You want to remove any apps that need timely notifications from battery optomization in the power settings. Make sure after you choose to manually manage the apps that they are allowed to run at startup and remain running in the background. (All 3 options should be allowed).
If that doesn't solve your problem then you might also need to remove Google Play Services from automatic power management since that service is normally responsible for syncing Android phones.
Huawei has more aggressive power management than most Android phones which provides great battery life but also annoys many people because they can miss important notifications.

No, the entire data just cut off after leaving wifi even thou the mobile data was on prior to leaving the wifi spots or just turning off the wifi. Does that make sense? I have had so many different phone this has never happend to me. I even turn off the data saver mode too.

If I turn that option on in dev mode "always leave the mobile data on" even when the wifi is on (even when wlan is active) does that mean it may sometimes suck up my mobile data while wifi is on, i dont want that.

Ok after tons of digging found the problem. a function i have never seen on previous phones.
basically you go to mobile data setting and go to more and then (wlan/mobile switcher) go in there and thats where the problem is.
I now select switch to mobile data.

I don't see that setting. Does this fix the fact that when you use hotpsot the phone is incapable of any data? I can't use hotspot at the same time as data on the phone itself.

I've always wondered that... I'm always turning off auto-sync when I also turn off every data connection. Does it help saving battery or it's pointless?
It does save on battery yes. Disabling all the settings does. Unfortunately it's not practical to run your phone that way for long periods of time.

If WiFi and mobile data are disabled it shouldn't make a difference whether sync is enabled then - however it may still send requests out to check for data connection and therefore drain battery.
I do exactly the same as you but for a business customer who needs e-mail on the go it is impractical and i'm sure there are other examples too.

ive noticed that every now and again even with wifi/data disabled i see a flash in the top notification area of the sync logo. so i disable mine too when turning of data. i never saw it in 1.5 though
Hi hoping some one can give me some help on this problem I have with my sIII. I keep getting this error\notification at the bottom of my screen "currently unable to download please try again later" I have installed watchdog to see if I can see where the message is coming from but didn't find any thing. Can anyone give me any suggestions on what is causing the message? Thanks

It's apparently in your smart settings or whatever area where you can set data limits for the device. Press the menu button while in there and you should be able to get extra options.

Ok I have data usage & data roaming and restrict backround data.
You want to make sure background data isn't restricted generally, and only turn it off on apps that are eating up your data if you're not on Unlimited.
Please explain me, I just dont understand the settings. What's the difference between 3 options: always, only when plugged in, never? I see that regardless of either option WIFI stays on during sleep. It is clearly seen from statistics. So what's the use of it?

well perhaps no one have seen your post.
anyway, i just saw that feature a while ago, and i think what it means is:
when your phone screen turns off (your phone is asleep because you're not using it), wifi connection gets disconnected -- to conserve battery.
the options are:
always (default) - will keep wifi connection turned on, no matter what
only wen plugged in - well, wifi connection will keep on ONLY when the device is plugged in.
never (increases data usage) - as soon as the device sleeps, it will disconnect from wifi, and possibly conneted to data network, hence the warning.

1. Always on even if screen is off (DS WiFi ON)
2. Only when charging WiFi is still on (DS WiFi ON while connected to USB or AC charger and DS WiFi OFF when disconnected from external power source)
3. Never online while in deep sleep - disconnecting WiFi in Deep Sleep (DS WiFi OFF)

Dear friends. Thank you for your replies but I suspect you didn't get the point. Again, regardless of one of these three settings WiFi is still ON during sleep. Try to set it to "never" (given that global WiFi switch is on of course, thus it should go to sleep along with device), disable your mobile data and run Skype for example. After your phone has fallen asleep you still online in Skype and available to receive calls. You're still on WIFI! It doesn't switch off when phone sleeps!
I know this is an old thread but did you manage to figure this out? This has recently been bugging me too. Thanks!
If wifi doesn't disconnect when it's set to "never", maybe your phone doesn't go to deep sleep properly.
It'd be good if we could read somewhere what this "deep sleep" really is..

I agree! phone may not go in deep sleep even after switching off screen.
And also also this question is really not stupid, but I say google is stupid, that he assume we have a data plan active always. I have wifi at home and office, so am not activating data plan. So I was having the same question/confusion about this option!
Keep wifi on during sleep -> never, so how come it increase data usage?? data means not data transferred through wifi but sim card internet!! Ha ha ha..
Google should clarify it that when phone is connected to wifi, it will not use sim card internet, but if wifi is off and mobile data plan is active, android will use sim card internet.
Also I'd like to add that wifi signal itself is not eating much memory, but in most of case, fb/gmail/google+/twitter etc which are always internet crazy (hungry) will not let your phone asleep. and they eat memory. if wifi is off then we can have two option, 3G and 2G phone internet. 3G signals eat more battery, and 2G internet use more battery because of slow speed.
Background activities option came in picture with invention of smart phone, but always misused by google+ and facebook!!!!
I always hate fb android app, it is too slow in 2G and surfing site in Opera mini is way too fast and handy, anyway that was my taste.
Take a look at green power app as this handles 3g/WiFi connectivity very well. Much better than juice defender

However, the connection manager (or some other app/service) on the Desire seems to take control nearly every time I hit the power button. The phone comes on and I'll be connected to Wifi. But then it switches off and connects to the 3G/4G data signal for a few seconds. Then switches back to Wifi. This is especially annoying when I've already launched an app and it disconnects me.
I tried using Titanium Backup to "freeze" an app that is called something like Connection Manager, but this odd connection flip still occurs.
Does anyone know what is causing this and how I can fix it? I'm still on 4.2 if that makes a difference.

I'm not sure how you do it after-the-fact but I know when I first setup the device on VM it popped up and you had to consent to use it and agree to the terms. If you say no to both of the those the app never bothers you again. I'm not sure how you get back into the app though to disable it after it being allowed to run.
You could try going to Settings -> Apps -> ALL and then force stop the program and clear all the cache/data/defaults maybe it will clear out your consent to use the program and your agreement to usage terms allowing you to say no the next time it runs.

Google either choose simplification or flat out removed the setting. As for why in some sense it makes things simpler for developers and virtually most (not all obviously). Linked two articles out of the multiple google search results below that pertain to the question.
I maybe totally going out on a limb to guess (and I am, not something I am to fond of doing honestly) since GPS/Location services only turns on when it is needed maybe the option was unnecessary?
Granted the choice would be nice, but so far I haven't seen anything in my usage that shows GPS location is a battery killer. In fact I get a lot more active use out of my phone now as it is then I did previously on Oreo, which is rather nice IMHO.

The option seems to be there.
On the Pixel phones you can enable it via "developer options" -> "featured flag"
Samsung decided to ditch this feature flag, why i don't know.
But with tasker and my unrooted S9 i could enable the battery saving mode.
Although you can't verify i think it works.
As i use Life360 which triggers the GPS when opened and haven't seen the GPS icon since i toggled to battery saving mode.
So as lomg as it works i'm happy.
