Puregear Screen Protector - Fits like a glove - OnePlus 6T Accessories

First time for me to use a screen protector. I've used the factory ones on my previous OP devices (6T, 6, 5T, 3). The 6T screen protector appears to be utter crap. After one month of normal usage it not only developed a few small bubbles but also a nice tear in it right over the keyboard making it a downright nuance to use. I could deal with the bubbles but the tear in it was the catalyst to get rid of it. Iit was like a zit and was rough to run your finger over while using keyboard. No bueno.
So I dug around a few threads didn't see much success. Poor fitment. Poor seller. Rainbow effects. etc. etc. etc.
Decided to make a trip to my local T-Mobile store. Bought the Puregear unit they had in stock. It's a bit pricey $39.99+tax but fits like a glove. Screen looks nice. The stock case fits over it without anything obvious protruding.
Other than cost cannot complain. Weird it's not listed on Puregear's website...
EDIT: Edited as I got a second camera to take the photos of it on the OnePlus 6T.

So is it slightly wider than the screen? Cause it looks very similar to the Nillkin which is only 10 bucks.

I think it lines up well with the screen. For some reason the last photo I put up isn't showing so I"ll throw it here.
Upon further inspection, there may be a faint rainbow effect actually on the edges.

So it's the same as the Nillkin. I will stay with my 10 dollar protector.

Go to my post 294 for some tips. Make sure you align it perfectly. There is really no room for error on the sides.

The puregear doesn't do it that badly and not near the top. It's on the sides near the middle and minimal at best.

The top and bottom of the Nillkin are perfect it's just the sides that are not forgiving it skewed to one side. If you align it as close to perfect you will be happy with it.

You win some you lose some. Opted to pay for easy return and easy testing. I use the phone enough that I didn't want to wait thanks to the stock one getting messed up badly.
Now, I need to find one for the OnePlus 6 (not the 6T). My wife wants one for her device. Any recommendations on that front?

Don't have a 6 but Nillkin I think makes one for the 6 too.
By the way if you are happy with yours that's all that matters. I was real close on buying the Puregear. If the Nillkin did not work out I would of bought it too.

I went with the official op6t tempered glass protector. Works great perfect fit.

Thanks a lot it seems like the best choice after the PureGear one

I just picked up a Puregrear today and I have to say I'm a little disappointed. The install was fine and adheres smoothly without any bubbles. But it's slightly too narrow. It fits well on the top and bottom but on both sides there is a sliver of visible screen that is not covered by the glass. It's not all that noticeable if looking directly dead on, but if the phone is even slightly angled you see thick line across the screen and it's a little annoying.

Exactly what I said. It's no different than dozens of protectors on Amazon for under $10 in that regard. Totally not worth it

I also just applied a Puregear and have a small strip on the right side of the screen that isn't covered, but on the left side it lined up. I had also ordered and returned the XtremeGuard TGSP because it didn't cover the entire screen, and the Puregear does significantly better despite not quite covering everything.
Overall, I really like the look and feel of the glass compared the preapplied protector, and I don't notice the uncovered part unless I look for it. I'll keep it for now, but if I needed a new protector I'd probably try the official OP glass or whatever else is performing well for other folks here.
FWIW, I was able to use a coupon code to get a $10 discount when I ordered it from their website, so at least I didn't pay full price.

Thanx its ordered
thanks, i ordered too!!!
Count me in as well...
Bought one last night
I purchased a few screen protectors off eBay.... and NONE of them actually cover the entire surface of the screen.
This looks pretty amazing!
But I must say that it feels a bit strange to spray the fluid on the back of the protector and then squeeze it out, can't this fluid get into the earphone, speaker and around the buttons below the screen?
this doesn't look bad, but i think i'll stay with my Brando screen protector, which imo is cool enough, and will get a rubber-ish backplate as soon as one with a correct price will appear.
I have been searching for a skin like this for my Diamond2. I have read that this Zagg skins all have a orange coat on top that makes a very undesirable effect. Any one can confirm this?
And what about phantom skynz? They provide full body protection, but the model for the D2 its not available yet ...
A little money saving tip for anyone else buying from zagg - enter ZAGG20 in the coupon code box to receive a 20% discount.

Just ordered.
Thank you bro!
Just installed the InvisibleSHIELD...
I just installed the invisibleShield I ordered from Zagg a few days ago. Installation was a little tricky, but using the solution made it easy(ish). I used a lot more spray than they recommended, but took the battery/sim/SD card out first. I left it drying for 12 hours, and everything switched on fine.
My advice to anyone getting this is to watch some installation vids on YouTube.
I bought it for the screen protector really as I am very clumsy with other WM phones in the past.
The main issue I have, which is a major one, is that the kit for the Diamond 2 is actually 7 pieces which you install piece by piece. Some of these pieces (like the brushed metal pieces on the edge) are very thin and warp easily. I thought when I purchased this that the screen piece would be one part, where the edges would 'fold' around the sides. This is NOT the case. As a result, the actual edges are not covered at all. These pieces don't meet to form a solid shield, but leave gaps between the edges. I have included some pictured to highlight this.
The actual effect on the screen is ok. The screen is bubble-less, but there is a slight sheen on the front. When the screen is on, its not noticable. Also, the shield is a little 'tacky' - not a lot, but it does help feel more snug in your hand. However, for the same reason, the touch screen (when using a stylus) it doesn't feel as smooth as without.
My overall opinion is that if you are looking for something to stop scratching the screen then its great, but if you are looking for something to make your phone indestructible, look elsewhere.
So you bought the protection that coveres the entire phone?
I'm planning to buy the cover for the display only, was the display cover hard to get in place?
agento
7 pieces....so you have 1 piece for backplate,2 in front and 4 for the sides?
Is that correct?
Thanks for sharing the info. Does the IS make it difficult to get the backplate off?
Does it make the front, back or sides feel or look noticeable different?

There is the front piece, the back piece, 2 thin strips for the sides and 2 small rectangles for the bottom side near the stylus. So 6, not 7. I can't count!

No, the IS covers the back plate, but it doesn't wrap over the sides. The back slides off just as easy as ever.

The front just looks like a normal screen protector. The back looks glossier. The touch though, as stated earlier, is slightly tackier. The only thing is the gaps where the IS doesn't meet.
Not trying to bum you out, but... the pictures you posted show a pretty messy device. Doesn't have a "clean" look anymore, is this because of the ZAGG?

Good Screen Protectors?

It is simply amazing how trashy most of the oneplus 5 screen protectors are. Just ordered idlehands tempered screen protector (goo.gl/i9x6xS) and it didn't fit as it claimed to (even the preview pictures show this!). The blacklines on the protector are spaced enough and go cover up part of the display! Most others are apparently trashy and low rated.... Anyone have luck? Having removed my factory screen protector, my screen is now vulnerable!

The lines fully enter the onto display, which immediately makes my display area a few (about 4-5 from my own judgement) millimeters smaller. This is unacceptable imo.

You should see the first glass protector I got, it wasn't even close with how much screen was lost.
But from what I've heard, even the official OnePlus glass protector covers the screen on the edges, doesn't it?

Assuming your referring to the Orzly tgsp, I'm surprised with your comment that it covers part of display screen. In the review video from the post in this XDA section, the review shows the Orzly installed and the bootloader screen displayed. The bootloader's left side text gives zero room for a screen protector to overlap and the video, to my mind, shows zero overlap of the text. Are you positive you applied it as well as the reviewer?
I've order the Orzly and am waiting for it to arrive so hopefully I'll get the same results as the reviewer and a couple of the installers who had zero rainbow effect. If it doesn't work out I'll be going back to a film screen protector as I've used on my devices for many, many years. The Orzly is my first tempered glass protector.
I'd like to echo the calls above: any good experiences with any plastic SPs?
I was happy with the preapplied SP, but I was putting some stuff (nice beermats I was nicking from a pub!) in my pocket and I managed to lift it on the bottom right, and it got covered in pocket crud straightaway. So I replaced it with the official OP TGSP, which I'm sort of 80% happy with. I have two (v small) bits on the right edge where it won't stick to the screen, and the borders covering the display bother me, particularly when I can't see the scrollbar to show me where I am in a page. Fond memories of my Nexus 5 and its perfectly flat display, I only ever needed one TGSP and it fit like a dream!
So what I'm looking for is ideally a) a TGSP with no border, as close to edge-to-edge coverage as possible without unstuck bits at the edges, and full screen adhesive so no rainbow effect. Failing that, option b) a plastic SP with coverage as good as the original preapplied one. Any tips? Preferably ones available from Amazon UK.
Many thanks in advance.
For me plastic SP are way better in looks.
Also never took the original one from OP devices.
But what's the plastic SP offers to OP5?

Yeah, I got it direct from OP as part of a bundle when I got my 5. I already knew it covered part of the display though, it says so clearly on the product page on their website. The one advantage it has over third party ones is that it's fully adhesive, so no rainbow/dot effects.

Here is a link to the Orzly tgsp on YouTube. Starting at the 4:27 mark he boots into the Bootlader screen and checks for screen protector display overlap.
I'll surely post my impressions once I get the Orzly tgsp myself but the video would probably give you all the info you need. Also here's the Orzly's amazon link and the XDA thread for this product. There is differing opinions but on the whole it seems like the only reasonable tempered glass option for the OP5.
I'm willing to try Nillkin's one ... I saw there is already a review of it in this forum, but I think i'm still gonna try it as it has no black border ( hate that ).
But still, from all reviews so far, Orzly SP looks like the best SP currently
I've always had great results with Skinomi, both their TechGlass and TechSkin. They currently don't offer the TechGlass for the OnePlus 5, but I just finished applying their MatteSkin protector and it installed perfectly . If they ever do release the TechGlass for the 5, I'll be picking one up.
Edit: I emailed Skinomi Customer Support about a TG protector and received this reply.
"Hello,

The Nilkon one sucks.
I received it yesterday, 1 side does not stick whatever you try, glass does not cover the entire screen so you get an horrible rainbow effect since the screen protector edge ends still on the display..

seems to be the only one that is good so far... even with its flaws (oil/rainbow stain, fingertips on the glass, ...)
Just on balance: Phone manufacturers (lots of them) have gone with this 2.5D curvature and obviously it's a tough thing to make the perfect fitting cover out of glass, so none of them are going to be perfect. What's the obsession anyway? It's just a protective cover. I've had the Orzley for a few weeks and it works great. Since mostly people with bad experiences are posting in forums (go on and check out any thread and see how many threads are saying "this works fine!"), you can't tell much from this thread except to only stack up bad experiences. It sure doesn't attract dust or prints.
Here's my experience: I applied it using the "steamed up bathroom to settle dust" technique, it took maybe 45 seconds to apply, went on perfectly. It is designed not to overlap any case, and only to "meet" the visible part of the screen. Yes it's close, but not as bad as the OP one. I've never heard a tap from the glass protector. I've never seen a color or rainbow on it, nor any dust underneath. The edges are sticky after 2 weeks. If you think about it, no adhesive that is removable is ever going to be able to hold down a piece of cut tempered glass in a way that doesn't create at least a bubble somewhere, not that it's a big deal. I don't think I've thought about the screen protector once until I read this thread after I applied it.
For some of us, the Orzly works fine. I'm going to take a wild swing and guess that I'm not the only person that this SP works for. I've used it with two cases and it works perfectly with both of them. One is a bumper like case from OP https://oneplus.net/oneplus-5-silicone-protective-case, and the other was one I got for nothing with the OP (A folio case?) . I'm fairly sure the Orzly will work with any case because it doesn't extend over the edges.
If you are one to believe every bad review will be your experience then just stay with the factory applied plastic. It works fine but you'll likely have to clean it pretty often since the fingerprint attraction is high. Other than that, it's fine. It might not help you if you drop it as well.
Iqshield. Good coverage, smooth feeling. I like their products

Are they any good screen protectors out there?

I've been reading all the threads in the forum after I brought my OP 5 yesterday (supposed to arrive to me in the next 2 weeks) and I cant find any solid recommendation.
There aren't any brands making screen protectors to our devices and even less reviews.
-I saw people saying to stay away from the original screen protector made by Oneplus due to the few millimeter lost cause by it.
-I looked on the Orzly screen protector and it looked quiet well but after searching the web I saw multitude negative reviews due lack of adhesiv, dot metrix and rainbows showing up on the screen. but some other who claims the protector is completely fine
In conclusion: In the Glass screen protectors section, there is no good product that will be fine with guarantee ?
If so, there is any other kind of screen protector (not glass one's) such as Skinomi or IQ Shield that are recommended?
I have to order any kind of screen protector as soon as possible before my device will arrive.
thanks for your professional support !
Every single option, glass or TPU, sucks. The best option is the non-glass protector that ships applied to the phone. Baby that one as long as you can.

Still the best, even covered in 2" of lint lol
As much as the screen protectors suck, the Orzly is stil the best of the bunch. I have it installed with no rainbow effect in the middle. Again, I think this is a case of people who have the issues are the ones you see. It depends on how you install it I guess. I know a few others who have also installed it without the rainbow, but I know people who have installed it and have had the rainbow. At least it is a fully screen protector, that doesnt cut off a millimeter of the screen basically, and at least they aren't a company that blames the user for obvious issues with their TGSP *cough* Oneplus *cough*
Take it from someone who has been through 5+ different screen protectors... About the only one that was semi worth a damn was Orzly. You run into ones that don't fill the entire screen and leave the edges exposed, don't stick, cover the front camera or ones that just flat out don't end up sticking. I wish I didn't end up taking off the one that the OP5 came shipped with but oh well lesson learned. As I said as of right now the only semi decent one is Orzly but even that one I had issues with the glue towards the edges peeling so the screen wouldn't respond because the protector was coming off the screen a little. Still though - Orzly or Manufacturer screen that was originally on the one are your best options at this point.
I really like the IQ branded film protector. I've had no problems with it and I only really notice it when I swipe along the edges and feel the film.

I'm using the clear one. It's definitely not as smooth as glass but it's smooth enough. It's more smooth than a glass screen without a oleophobic coating. Fingerprint residue is minimal. The only case I have is the sandstone one from OnePlus and I have no problems with it.

Using the clear IQ protector here too. So far it's the best I've found. I've used the official TGSP, Orzly TGSP, and a couple other cheaper TGSPs. The wet application film screen protectors are the way to go for this phone it seems. Helps a lot with finger prints and I haven't had any issues with it not being slick enough.

I went and removed the factory installed protector, it was a bad idea. Now I have small hairline scratches on the bottom right corner. I've now ordered a tempered glass in Amazon to hide the scratches.
The one that came with the phone is fantastic imo. I haven't enjoyed tgsp since my nexus 6p because of the 2.5D curved glass craze, no tgsp fits any phone good anymore. Axon, Samsung (ROFL, you thought OUR screen was bad?) , I haven't looked at the screen protectors for the G6, but the screen doesn't appear to be 2.5d so that's a step in the right direction..
When my stock screen protector gets unusable, I'll buy the 30$ crash guard from rhinosheidl ?????? Just to see if the hype is real...
Unless someone already has photos of it....

When my stock screen protector gets unusable, I'll buy the 30$ crash guard from rhinosheidl Just to see if the hype is real...
Unless someone already has photos of it....

Any idea when the crashguard is shipping. I don't wanna drop that type of money without looking at reviews.

No idea whatsoever, my stock screen protector from oneplus is still in fantastic shape, so I don't imagine ordering four a couple more months at least.
The ones for the oneplus 3 are 13 dollars on amazon, and ship with prime in the US.. So I imagine in a few weeks the price will become more better.
I've recently seen this on the taobao site. GOR branded TSP. I've used their flat ones on other phones and am quite satisfied with the performance. They have 2 versions, one with the black border, one with a edge sealant sort of thing. I'm planning to get the sealant version next month since my option to add items for cheap shipping is exhausted for July....
If anyone's in China or has bought one, some feedback would be appreciated.

Spigen NeoFlex wet application screen protector

Hey guys,
Thought I'd share my experience with this screen protector.
I've tried damn near all available on the market (tempered glass specifically) except the official OnePlus tempered glass. None were up to par. They all only have adhesive along the edges only which imo is a poor desicion. I see no plus to this.
The ones i tried all got dust under in a matter of days, and some even fell off completely after small drop tests.
Although this spigen is not a tgsp, it's is worth every penny. Application was easy, the wet application makes it to where alignment is 99 percent perfect. It covers at least all of the lighted display, of course it doesnt follow the 2.5d curve.
After application it took a couple hours to clear up any haziness that remained after squeegee/drying process. Don't apply too much pressure as I seem to have wrinkled a corner.
All in all, very satisfied with the product and will continue to buy after they get ugly...unless they make a perfect tgsp im the future.

It's pretty much the same as the one comes pre-installed on the device.
Hoe does this protector goes with dust? Not underneath, bit on top? The pre installed protector is a real dust catcher ...everything I get the phone out of my pocket I have to clean the screen from dust

Its far less of a dust/lint magnet. Id say 80 percent less attraction.
I just bought this protector as well, and installed it today.
It is exactly the same size as the pre-installed protector, which personally I like. That avoids issues with the curved screen, but is still large enough to protect the screen adequately when using a case. Of course the second benefit is that this is a case friendly screen protector. I have a cheap black TPU case similar to the spigen rugged armor, and they fit together without issue.
This is one of those healing/indestructible type protectors that have been around awhile, like an IQ Shield. I have used these on older devices, although I upgraded to TGSP on my last phone. I would have bought a TGSP for this phone, but apparently, the manufacturers have no clue what they're doing. I do like this type of protector. It is a wet application. This protector makes the screen appear slightly textured when viewed from extreme angles, but not much viewed straight on. I need to give it a full day to dry before I get too critical of it. The package came with two, and I'm likely to use these until a decent TGSP rolls around.

Yup, forgot to mention that. Still don't have any cosmetic problems with the film. Even the wrinkle I mentioned in the first post has corrected. I can actually see the film "heal" when I scratch it with my nail intentionally.
1 day followup: All the bubbles have disappeared. There is still very mild visible distortion that is present with every protector of this type. It doesn't bother me, but screen clarity perfectionists will probably complain. Again, its not a TGSP, but its great for what it is. No other issues.
Really waiting for it to get released in Europe.. So far only America, India as far as I can see. :/

You could go for the ultimate shield, which is basically the same type of screen protector.
Unlike the spigen it covers the whole front, I mean the area below the fingerprint scanner especially.
I don't know if there is any difference in thickness or coating.
The ultimate shield also has the same "orange skin effect" that was mentioned earlier in this thread, but u will barely see it when using your phone.
How's the scratch resistance on this one? I'm on my last Orzly TGSP, which lets in dust from ever side, I'm looking for alternatives that at least don't scratch.

After a quick clean an inspection i noticed one single micro scratch. This is since day before original post.
Just installed this today. Haze from the liquid went away within hours and so far so good!
There is an "orange peel effect" and it doesn't feel like glass but those are a given, and expected, so no points off for these two things.
It's much better than any tgsp that I've tried, simply due to the fact that it's edge to edge. I couldn't stand
1. The lack of adhesive on the sides
2. The sides being significantly cut off
The "wet install" allows for you to have a perfect install as well, as you can slide it around and adjust it perfectly, before finally setting it in place.
I'll see how it holds up over time and will update this post if anything unusual happens with it!
I will also try and get some pics soon (if I remember lol)
For those of you with this screen protector, how did you end up aligning it correctly? There's a small amount of space around each cutout and I found with my initial installation that while those were lined up, with the Rugged Armor case installed I had a small gap on the right side.
Amazon's instructions say to install with the case already on but Spigen's does not so thought I'd ask how others got theirs to line up correctly.
I installed one of these tonight. I did it with the Spigen case installed, and centered the protector on that. Waiting for it to cure and lose the bubbles. It didn't look that bad to start and 3 hours later it is looking better.
At this point I would pay a premium for flat glass! I just don't enjoy these phones like I used to without a nice perfect TGSP!

How'd you end up getting rid of the excess water? Did you remove the case after putting on the screen protector?

I removed the case and wiped it down with the cloth. I left it out of the case to dry / cure.

On the Spigen install video at install.spiegen.com for the case friendly S8, they show putting it on with the case on. That's what I did. Spigen calls it full coverage but compatible with Spigen case.
After installing it then removing the case for drying and curing, the bubbles disappeared after about 18 hours, but I have one piece of trash trapped. After putting the case back on, it seems compatible but the film goes out to the border of the Spigen case without touching it, except it barely touches on the bottom. It is a very close fit, I believe putting it on without the case would cause problems with alignment.
Overall not bad, it is easier to align the film with the case on. The touch feel is OK for me.

Spigen TGSP for 6T

I'll be the guinea pig for this one, I'm always impressed with Spigen products so fingers crossed on this. Looks like it has much narrower borders and a neater notch cutout ?
Should arrive tomorrow, I'll post up my findings ?

Oh cool I've been waiting for this. Wasn't happy with the Oneplus glass tbh but I've used the spigen on my P20 pro before and it was just perfect for me. Hope this one performs as good.
Let us know how it is. Curious to know if it will work with cases since they claim it does. The TGSP I have now peels up with all of my cases.
Any news on this? I'm super curious....
So, super impressed. Absolutely no adhesion issues on the sides or anywhere else for that matter.
The borders are noticeably smaller than the Orzly protector I had previously.
I'm using this with the Spigen 'Liquid Air' case from Amazon so no issues with compatibility.
I had a couple of air bubbles to work out but this was easy enough.
Fingerprint scanner doesn't seem any less responsive.
The only minor thing I'd say is that I've noticed my phone is attracting more dust and lint than previously but not the end of the world.
Sorry about the poor pictures, my old Xiaomi Mi5 is showing its age.

I'd say no, if it does you are talking a fraction of a millimeter - virtually unnoticeable.
The Orzly one bugged me because how bulky it made the notch and ate into my status bar, not an issue now. Plus the fact it didn't stick at the sides ?

Did it come with any type of guide to help line it up properly while applying? Kinda like the orange thing included with this one? https://www.amazon.co.uk/OMOTON-Compatible-Protector-Anti-Scratching-Anti-Bubbles/dp/B07KCWKZ3W

Well the protector has a couple of large tabs coming off the top and bottom so that you can line it up then they just peel off with the top film, they aren't great - found it difficult to see where I was landing on the notch but managed to get away with it ?
If you keep a case on then there isn't too much margin for error although I'd recommend heavily cleaning your case as the last time I did it with the case all sorts of crap got hoovered up by the protector ?

I can also confirm. This TGSP works very well. Full adhesion (even after refitting the glas because i had to remove dust). Bubbles also go away pretty easily.
I didn't notice the black border covering any screen at first. But now i notice maybe one pixel beeing cut off on the sides - barely noticable at all.
Thanks for testing! I bought a second one as backup - just in case.

No worries, I'm just happy to have something decent now. That Orzly one was so bad they refunded me and withdrew it from sale How you finding it for attracting dust? I'm constantly wiping mine around the edges.

Question, does light bleed out the side with you? Literally just noticed it there - both sides you can peek under the black borders? Funky.

Yeah, same here. Although i only see it in one specific angle. The lip on my case kind of hides it a little.
My guess is, thats how all the SPs with a black border work - they are not really adhering to the border and are more or less giving the illusion of having a "full screen protection" because of said black border.
The lightbleed is only noticable when looking directly from the side - otherwise not noticable at all (even if pitch black).
The only negative point i see at the moment, is that dust accumulates in that space. Seems to be easily removable though....
Edit:
Regarding the dust: It seems kind of ok. I am getting some dust. But it's easily cleaned off.
I would almost say that it was the same with the preinstalled screen protector from OnePlus.
Edit No. 2:
Added some pictures. Sorry for the quality. Only have a ****ty webcam on my notebook.
Is it available in Spigen US online store? Searched for it but unable to find this one.
