Way to lock screen (unrooted) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I have a LG G7 One which runs stock Pie. Sadly LG's knock knock features aren't included. Bootloader is locked, so no root options currently. This my first phone that doesn't have a root option. I feel a little limited.
I'm looking for a way to lock my phone without using the power button. Ideally double tap to lock. I've tried a few different options but they all seem to have the same limitation. They force me to use my pin after I lock my phone with them. Something about my phone being locked by admin. I would like to just use my finger print scanner. Is there any workaround for this?
I'd prefer double tap to lock, but I'd settle for a quick settings toggle. Are there any apps that allow this? And would I face the same issue, where it forces me to use my pin afterwards?

I have pixel launcher on my V35. The LG double tap to wake/sleep works but only when I double tap in the notification pull down. Near the top. This is still the LG feature so maybe not good for you. I thought stock Android had the double tap thing tho. Maybe not Android One?

Nova launcher can be used to double tap and lock

A problem with google assistant and lock screen.

So I'm getting inconsistent results from google assistant when the screen is off and locked (I use the dot pattern for locking). From what I can tell I have to reboot the phone and google assistant will unlock and answer my questions without any issue. THEN after a few hours or so, maybe half a day, when I say "Ok google", the device will perk up and register my request, but won't automatically unlock. so I have to draw the pattern for it to respond to my question.
What's the deal with this? Why does it sometimes work, but other times it doesn't? Has anyone else had this problem? It seems so random. I can't figure it out.
Thanks for any help.
David.
EDIT: Just figured it out myself. When I lock with the double tap it won't unlock with "ok google". The reason, so far as I can tell is that Nova Launcher is responsible for the double tap screen lock/unlock feature, and so Google assistant won't unlock through it. When I disable double tap through Nova Launcher but enable it through system settings I can only double tap to unlock, and the double tap for locking doesn't work at all.
I can't find a solution where double tap works to turn the screen both on and off, AND assistant always works. But at least I'm one step closer to the solving the issue.
You can double tap on the notification bar and then disable the Nova double tap lock. Not what you want exactly but since Nova can't do what you need, it may be the only way to have your Nova and Assistant.
Honestly though, I have Nova but have been pretty OK with the way the LG launcher can be configured.

I use Nova with a pin on my lock screen. Google Assistant works as advertised every time... That said I very recently did a factory reset. Do you have AOD enabled?

Ok, this is kind of a BS workaround, but here's your solution:
Go to Settings > Lock Screen > Voice Recognition
Set an unlock phrase different from "OK Google." (I used "hello phone," but whatever...)
Now if you "OK Google" your phone and your knock code / PIN / pattern unlock screen comes up, you can use "hello phone" as an alternate, and it'll bypass the lock screen.

Double tap the notification bar? When I do that it just shuts off the screen. Is there some other way of getting to this setting? I mean, I can go into Nova settings and assign 'none' to double tap, but then I still can't double tap to turn the screen off. Apparently Nova interferes in some way. It won't cede control double tapping to the system settings even when there's no action assigned to it.

Issue: Launchers when active disables the Double Tap feature to turn off the screen.

Issue: Launchers when active disables the Double Tap feature to turn off the screen.
I like to use Nova Launcher for several reasons. However with the new LG V30, when Nova Launcher is active the Double Tap to turn off the screen fails to work. Double Tap to turn it back on works fine, as does the Double Tap from the Lock Screen works for both screen on and off.
Is this a known issue with launchers, or is it an LG V30 issue?
I've not had a phone with the feature for Double Tap screen off/on before, so I have no idea if it's to be expected and find nothing posted about this either.

it is issue of nova launchers
May have to have the paid version, but it's in Nova Settings, then Gestures and Inputs.
That does work! Thanks!

Well I'll be... that works even when Nova Launcher is active. Thank you!
Nova has its own homescreen shortcut for switching off the screen: Widgets -> Nova Action -> activate lockscreen. Of course Nova needs the permission for that.
OMG this is great, thanks for that!

A pretty substance free coment: What was your actual expectation?
Since that shortcut switched off the screen on every Android phone I had so far as long as Nova has the required administrator permissions set. So I see no need to avoid it.

There are two modes, one of which locks the phone, after which the fingerprint unlock doesn't work, you have to enter your code to unlock the phone. The other one doesn't lock the phone at all, it just turns off the screen, and the AOD doesn't show up untill the phone actually times out and locks on its own (it says after 5 seconds, but it's actually 30 seconds for me).
I would agree. The present implementation of Nova Launcher doesn't really follow function or form with the V30's own lockup function. It doesn't really lock the phone up. It just darkens the screen... not secure it.
What I really would like for Nova Launcher to do is to enable the user to use the whole screen to implement the knock code to lock the screen up. I think the reason we can use the notification area alone, is that this is part of the V30's own infrastructure layout, and not a Nova Launcher area.

Yes that always works with Nova.
And if you configure this option, it will also work anywhere on the screen.

Yes but as other posters have said, it doesn't actually lock the phone - it just turns the display black and only locks after the display time out (60seconds in my case). It doesn't turn off the touchscreen, it just blanks it.
If you are rooted nova can lock the screen just as lg launcher does.

Turn off swipe to unlock, keep fingerprint scan

930DS, on Pie Stock.
Does anybody know of a method of removing the swipe to unlock please?
Must be a way.
I'm also using smart lock with a trusted device so it'd be nice if I can just get to my apps with a double tap rather than double tap, then swipe.
Thanks. I realise it's not a big deal but it is annoying and a pointless use of my thumb. I might need my thumb for other things (squelch!)

Problem with Third party launchers and double tap to wake up

Hello, I am using LG V30 with nova launcher. I lock it with the fingerprint. If I lock the screen with double tap with nova launcher and try to use the fingerprint to wake and unlock, it does not work and always asks for pin. With stock launcher there is no problem but with any third party launcher situation is same. It was same with my G5. Is there any fix so it unlocks only with fingerprint without askin for pin ?
PS: If I lock it with double tap on top of the screen (notification bar) then it unlocks with the fingerprint

Or just lock with fingerprint and instantly unlock with fingerprint...
I'm doing that too, but I wanted to know if there is a way with knock knock. It's way more convenient with knock knock.

You can resolve this if you've root or android pie. Nova launcher tells you about this when you set double tap
LG V30 Pie constantly asks about default launcher
I'm using the Launcher 10 for LG V30 (Pie) for last few months. Everything was fine, but since last week when clicking on home screen button, the phone constantly asks me about launcher I want to use. It's really annoying and slow down the phone's usability. Choosing always or setting it in settings gives no effect for longer than one click

I have also been getting this problem intermittently over the last few weeks, and have been choosing Accessibility to unlock and wake with FP.
Coincidentally I have been using MS Edge, similar to this person (although using release not Beta).

The next time it happens I am going to uninstall Edge for now and see if it fixes the issue.

Double tap

I recently got this phone, one of it's features are gestures, I don't see an option to double tap to lock, Am i missing something or is just not there?
I don't see this option anywhere. I'm afraid it's unavailable...
EDIT: delete this post please.

You can simply use a third part launcher instead of the stock one (i.e. ruthless, pear, cpl or the best one, in my opinion: smart launcher)
I have this problem on my new Oppo Find 2X pro. Double tap to switch on, not available to switch off. Could a software update solve this. Seems the only way to lock the phone is to use the external button. My Realme X50 Pro 5G has this option. Any other ideas please.
it is sufficient to connect the double tap gesture to the "lock screen" built-in app.
fast and easy.
