Mate 10 Pro benchmarks Android Pie - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

Hi everyone,
I received the Pie update today and did some benchmarks for fun.
Turns out the results are much lower than the registered ones on the websites for Mate 10 Pro with Oreo.
My device:
Mate 10 Pro 9.0.0.161 C432E4R1P11
Tested with latest versions of Geekbench and Antutu from Google Play Store.
Geekbench on Pie, my device
Single Core 1787
Multi Core 5446
Geekbench on Oreo, website
Single Core 1902
Multi Core 6673
Antutu on Pie, my device
139803 (for example Mate 20 Lite scores 138890)
Antutu on Oreo, website
209042
A friend of mine also got the update today and reaches slightly higher scores in Geekbench.
I did some benchmarks in the past and remember I didn`t really reach the high numbers on the websites but it wasn`t that far away, so no big deal.
But now it looks weird. I guess some compatibilty issues might need a fix or the apps are just not updated.
Would be nice if you could also check if you encounter the same "problems"
Thank you

I'm not on Pie, but I heard they have performance mode disabled by default now.
Also, they used to artificially boost benchmark scores by running the processor higher than normal when it detects a benchmarking app. Did they fix it in Pie?

They cheated.
You have to activate the performance mode on pie

Thx for the info guys, much appreciated. I activated performance mode and results are even slightly better than on the websites.

Do you can tell us how to activate performance mode ? Is the performance in games much better as in emui 8?
Please install for test Shadowgun legends and put settings on ultra and 60 FPS and tell me if it's smooth if yes it's awesome because in emui 8 it was always lagging

Performance mode is located in battery options and there are two modes more - power saving and ultra power saving mode. AppAsisistant is also new and this is one more option to get a better performance by activating game acceleration mode.

Game is not playable at those settings, sry. Doesnt reach 60 fps and has heavy lags when explosions etc. happen.
Device gets really hot

Porting blackshark miui rom for poco

Can anyone port blackshark miui rom ( stable / beta ) for Poco f1
Reason - Blackshark is highly optimised for gaming and there must be some serious optimisations in terms of performance too on the software side
Poco scores like 300K on Antutu
But i have seen many a times its 3Dmark scores are way beyond low
Links provided below -
Xiaomi Black Shark Review
https://benchmarks.ul.com/hardware/phone/Xiaomi+Black+Shark+review
Xiaomi Pocophone F1 Review
https://benchmarks.ul.com/hardware/phone/Xiaomi+Pocophone+F1+review
No matter what tweak you do yours scores never gonna reach that level
Why ? I know benchmarks are just numbers it doesn't matter when you have fluidity performance
But the 3D scores test are really low and i have noticed some serious frame drops in games like mc5 ( MODERN COMBAT 5 )
I hope someone will look into it and make available for such
I been searching for the same thing. Hope someone comes up with it
I wonder how the note 9 performs so high in 3d mark? Have you seen the scores?

Not just note9, all the flagships from samsung this year show extraordinary performance on 3dmark which is a more renowned benchmark in the gaming world for both mobile and desktops.
Although these are way bad in Antutu where the Chinese devices have taken up the top spots.

Maybe they are being paid AFUC gpu used in Exynos is not that powerful compared to Adreno by a huge margin
This could be a nice ideea, a rom made ONLY for gaming performance (with the best gaming optimisations, latest GPU drivers, mods etc)

Exactly!!! That's why the Exynos variants have about 1k less scores as compared to the 845 variants.
I honestly don't see the point. It will still share the same drivers and that's where the problem lays. Let's take the GameCube/Wii emulator called Dolphin, it runs better on the Nvidia Shield TV than it does on any phone even though the SOC is older on the Nvidia Shield TV because the drivers are far better than what you find on a Snapdragon device
Stock Rom Score Update...
Nope...guess what scores I have got on stock EU rom 8.12.27...
No need to guess see the screenshot...
Completely in sync with the other phones... including the Black Shark...and I repeat I am on stock Rom with the stock kenel.

We all know how benchmark score works. If I pay some handsome amount for my 5 years old Lumia 1320, Antutu will show insane score for that device as well.

Mate 20 PRO - Is performance mode worth it?

I've been using performance mode since the day I got the phone, so for the last 10 days, but I wanted to know - is it really worth it? I rarely play games, if I play them at all. I don't edit videos, do some photoshop work or whatever. I mainly use M20P for whatsapp facebook insta reddit and browsing.
So do I really need it or should I disable performance mode and get even more battery juice?

TBH, I've never used that and the mate is the fastest most fluid phone I've ever used. I really don't think it's needed at all.

I see. So you would reckon I dont need it enabled?
Not really seen any difference in performance with it, I tested but don't use it at all now.
Sent from my HUAWEI LYA-L09 using XDA Labs
The performance mode increases the GPU performance and doesn't have this much impact on the CPU.
So you will only notice it while playing games or doing some GPU-accelerated video editing - the everyday performance won't improve this much..
I think it changes the cpu's governor to respond faster to any solicitation (for me it unlocks a bit faster for example).
If you don't need extra battery life you can stick to performance mode.
But like others said, it's not a big change, it will still feel smooth and fast without performance mode.
Alright, I'll just do a test and if the battery lifr difference is significant, I'll turn it off. Thank you everyone
I didn't realize we even had a toggle for that. Too bad they treat it the way they do - it should be a list of apps that automatically turn it on when they are running. EMUI 9.1 has something kinda like that, except it is a group of optimized settings that have been pre-made for specific games. There are only about a dozen or so games on the list so far, which kinda makes it pointless. There were reports that Huawei had changed their mind and remove the performance toggle from the Mate 20 Pro at the last moment, because it made the phone heat up and didn't really gain anything. I have a zillion games on my phone but none of them are so GPU intensive that the phone struggles, haven't seen a need for this mode - yet.
I play tekken 6 on PPSSPP emulator, it runs the same with or without it, pretty much perfect.

In other words, what you're saying is basically there's no need to actually run it as the perfomance isn't significantly improved, likely not at all? And I don't even play games, I guess it's even more pointless for me? Lol

I see. Could it be Huawei just put that with the EMUI 9 to satisfy those who complained they couldnt get the same or similar antutu or geekbench scores that were advertised?

I think this is what "Game acceleration" mode is for...you select the apps and they will get a performance boost at the expense of battery. Never tried it myself, but I wonder if this is a "Performance mode" limited to those apps...that's how I look at it.

Game acceleration is the gpu turbo, performance mode is in battery settings,2 different things.
Be that as it may, general consensus seems to be that it is pretty much useless...
The performance mode was meant for a higher score on benchmarks. Huawei and a few other OEMs were accused of detecting popular benchmark apps and purposely tune their software to score higher on benchmarks. The performance mode was a result of public demand.

Yes. It is useless. There is no need to keep your CPU running at maximum in everyday usage. The phone can auto detect graphics intensive and CPU hungry apps, it will adjust automatically to the needs of different apps. Use the phone as it is for the best stress free experience.
(Damn, I sound like some Huawei salesperson)
Lmao! But yeah I figured as much. thanks haha

this!
I think people have forgotten about the benchmark cheating controversy.
"optimisation" in benchmark apps (that is detection and different settings for benchmarks vs real world apps) was considered cheating (and rightly so)
so instead, huawei made the optimisations an option for the entire phone. only affects benchmarks afaik. maybe some intensive apps... but which apps right now would be considered power intensive for a phone (not a benchmark, an actual app).

Game Performance and Rom Differences

So I have recently got my k20 pro and joined the family. Now I have a question, how is the game performance on graphic heavy games for you? I am using the miui global and I can say I am not impressed. You might think that there shouldn't be a game that works slow on this phone but try Marvel Future Fight (yeah not everyone plays pubg) and my fps was so unstable it was even going below 30 time to time. I will now root my phone and try to change the cpu governor (as schedutil is not a good governor for performance) but I wonder if others have tested out different games and different roms with similar experience. I saw some people doing gpu overclock but I actually dont want to do that for now. And I saw a custom kernel so I wonder its performance as well.
For me the performance is quite good
Graphics heavy games? No problem at all
List of games that I've played :
- Traha
- Call Of Duty Mobile
- Perfect World
- Black Desert M
- Vainglory
All of that with maxed out graphics @60fps
ROM : xiaomi.eu
Antutu : 377k
Overclocked : -

you have to disable google voice match to avoid this, and sometimes it breaks so you have to reboot but it hapens once every 3 months or so
Playing honkai impact 3 on max, 60 fps. Works without lag but the phone heats up. Global stable latest version
I'll try playing a game on Pixel Experience official if you're curious about the performance. You just have to tell me what game you want me to test.

PUBG Graphics Update

I've been using Mi A3 for over a week or so. This phone is really amazing as we don't get to see much stock android phones today. But the main problem is that PUBG is locked at very low settings. We can unlock it by PUBG Gfx tools but still I feel that the processor is capable of running the game at atleast HDR Ultra.
Can we expect to get those graphic options? Because even the Mi A2 performed better in PUBG than this. Is it because the SD 665 is a new processor or is it something with the 720p display.

The problem is not the phone but the game it self...i remember back then when the game in v0.13.0 where you can get smooth/ultra settings in game but in v0.14.0, ultra setting is gone so if you want a better setup then simple give some feedback the games devs so they can add HDR/ultra in the next updates...

Yes. I've tried with gfx tool and I must say it works flawlessly. The SD 665 is really good. The CPU+GPU even outperforms the Samsung's 9611 found in M30s. I'll write to the game devs. We can just hope for the update xD

Have new updates improved Mi A3 gaming performance?

According to some Youtube videos, Mi A3 was performing poorly with gaming, as its firmware was supposedly unoptimised and full of bugs. One Youtube reviewer claimed that (I didn't bookmark the video so can't post the link) Mi A3 4/64 version was struggling to run PUBG even with Balanced setting (second from lowest), while Redmi Note 8, which has same chipset ran PUBG with Medium setting (3rd from lowest) quite well.
Now that I am planning to buy this phone, I wonder, if bugfix and optimisation updates have resolved the issues that this phone supposedly have.
In a nutshell my question is, how well can you play games on this phone right now?

PUBG runs quite well on HD settings with extreme FPS. However, I had to use GFX tools to unlock the settings. I'm on stock rom with no root.
