Decent (price and quality) USB-C to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter - Huawei P20 Pro Accessories

Hi,
If you are like me, you like to have more than one accessory "in case of".
Huawei USB-C to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter is good and I search long time to find something not too expensive and that will do the same job.
I found this article: https://9to5google.com/2018/11/01/hands-on-apple-usb-c-headphone/ with this information:
"The new Apple USB-C to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter, though, seems to work flawlessly with essentially every device I’ve tried it with so far.
For Google’s Pixel devices, it works without a hitch. Simply plug it in and hit play and your tunes are good to go. The same applied for the Huawei P20 Pro and Essential Phone which I also tested out."
So I went to Apple store to buy one ($10 CAD, $9 USD, really not expensive) and it works really great.
Just a little pop-up about "using not certified adapter" but nothing wrong about music song during my test.
I thought it was a good news to share
Here are the link (valid in 2018 December):
USA Apple Store: https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MU7E2AM/A/usb-c-to-35-mm-headphone-jack-adapter?fnode=91
Canadian Apple Store: https://www.apple.com/ca/shop/product/MU7E2AM/A/usb-c-to-35mm-headphone-jack-adapter?fnode=91

The Huawei adapter cost 5€ on Amazon, it won't get cheaper than that.

Is the apple adapter any louder than the crappy huawei one? I'm trying to find a decent/louder adapter as the huawei is not that great in this aspect.
Cheers and happy new year!

No difference for me with the earbuds I use from a long time (and happy with it).
Sound seems the same at equal sound level.

Do you have any other earbud that you could test? I would appreciate it if you could check and confirm that their output is the same, as if it is there is no reason to buy another adapter.
My big problem is that when I am snowboarding I am using a helmet with earphone integration and since I switched phones and bought the P20 pro I notice a HUGE downgrade in volume, which is really noticeable when we are talking abt helmet earphones and not earbuds. The max volume must have gone to maybe half of the output of my previous HTC phone with 3.5mm jack.
Thanks!

I will do with other earbuds and one full headset I have and I will report you back shortly

Following

I can confirm there is a quality issue but not on adapter, on headset.
I made a test in a quiet room, using same software (Deezer), same song and same volume.
My usual earbuds were ok, also an old Samsung earbuds (surprisingly). But my cheap full headset was horrible : bad sound and not as strong as full volume compare to others.
I switched from Huawei and Apple adapter many times to confirm.
Hope this will help.
Please keep in mind that was done without material, only my personal feeling (but difference was huge)
Happy new year everyone

Thanks for your time spent to do the test mate!
So no any noticeable difference between the two adaptors huh? Only between some headsets I guess.
Thanks again and happy new year [emoji16]

I've just bought this 1. Volume is louder but I seem to have lost the use of controls via headset buttons, skip etc. I can play and pause still. Does anyone know if there's a setting I need to change or do I just have to put up with pulling phone out of pocket everytime I want to skip a track?

I'd say loud enough to cut out the outside noise I was getting.
With the adapter provided with the phone I could do the double click, this new dac one just pauses and plays

Been following this for a little bit and I'm still trying to wrap my brain around the audio path for the P20Pro. Looking for backup option and I'm settling on the apple usb-c to 3.5mm as a quick and cheap replacement for the huawei dongle as for canada, theres plenty of Apple and best buy stores around.
Thanks Saison for testing the dongles. My questions is that if the Apple dongle has a built-in DAC, does the P20Pro know to use the dongle for digital-analog conversion vs trying to push its own analog audio for 'pass-thru'?
Thanks!

Well, one person in this topic said that when he plugged the apple adapter in the phone that he got a msg saying it isn't a supported adapter but it worked. So my guess is that its just pass-tru

Lots of people talking about this dongle: Venture Elektronica Odyssey Type-C tot 3.5mm DAC dongle and its sold out due to high demand and no restock for months since they doing a dongle upgrade so guess ill wait for that one.

I also use the apple one, it's cheap ($10), but volume seems a bit low.
One added bonus, it works with apple-compatible cables with mic/volume/prev/next controls! At least it works with the Bose QC 25, iOS version.
The stock adapter didn't work so well for me, it only worked in one direction and the sound quality seemed pretty bad.

Hmmm just tested again, and yes, apple one is quieter. Ok that's annoying!

I had my huawei adaptor failing at me the first day of my snow trip a few days ago (that was a bummer[emoji35]). Now I will try to find the Google adapter which is supposed to work much better and is supposed to be much louder but it is not sold in my country, so my bets were for the apple one.
The bad thing is that even the huawei one was a lot quieter than my previous phones, so I guess the apple one is a no go..

Best stereo bluetooth headset with 3.5 mm jack?

Can somebody recommend a stereo bluetooth headset for the HD which has a 3.5 mm jack to use your own headphones?
Thx
I'm confused by this - Why would you need a 3.5mm jack if they're bluetooth??
I use the Motorola S9 bluetooth headset and it works perfectly - I also have iTech blueband ones, but not tried those as yet (no need to really)
I tried my sony wired phones last night watching a movie on it and they work perfectly as well (first time I tried the 3.5mm jack output)
I use the Sony DS980, and the sound is awesome. Its got a mic on it, as well as an OLED console display that lets you access your phone book, make calls, displays song title, etc.. but check it out on youtube.
I've got the Motorola S9 as well and can't recommend it.. the sound, the build quality, the features, battery life -- all pretty poor.

It's a simple explanation: I don't want to have to take it out of my pocket when I'm listening to music or taking a phone call and I want to use my own Sennheiser earphones.

STILL not with you on this dude - they're either wired OR bluetooth, certainly the way I interpret it (unless you mean a dongle of some description???)
Is there some kind of product out there that allows you to 'piggy back' into and use regular wired headphones into them or something??
I wouldn't dispute that the Sony's are way better than the motorola - I can't use earbud phones though [at all!] otherwise I'd love to give them a try - and yes, now you mention it the battery life really does suck too - I use mine only ever in the gym though so they're fine for a couple of hours at a time

I have tried both the SE HBH-DS205 (your bottom picture) and the Sony DRC-BT15 (your top picture). I think that the SE version has nice sound (good bass and highs, even without Audio Booster in stock Audio Manager), but it has no playback controls, so the phone willl need to come out of you pocket sometimes.
The Sony version has playback controls, but it is very thick and the sound was a bit "tinnier" to my ear.
With both of these units, I had issues with swistching between calls and music. Sometimes the switch back to music works, sometimes it doesn't and the music comes out through the handset speaker at full volume (much to the chagrin of NYC subway riders around me). I have read in these forums that disabling or adjusting the min/max BT bitpool can alleve these problems, but I like my bitpool high for the sound and am tooo lazy to fiddle around with min/max settings, sooo...
I just use Ultimate Ears Super.fi 4vi, a wired set with a very lightweight profile, a mic and (most importantly) the best sound (to my ears) out there for a 2-in-1 headset.

Then just get Blutooth headphones - like the motorola S9. You can take calls, listen to music, skip tracks etc. Most ones allow that.
The best
Sony Ericsson HBH-DS200, for me the best.
sk801, is it possible to use the Sony BT dongle to control the HD, while using your Superfi connected to the HD by the 3.5mm port (wired) for earbud sound?
Also, I assume your 4 vi control/mic is working on the HD? What controls does it have aside from call pickup/end?
perhaps stupid question, im looking for a stereo BT device and those sony ones look quite nice BUT do they work to skip tracks while you're playing music on the htc player and the pda has the screen off???
I have Motorola Pilot
MOTOROLA SOUND PILOT S705,
...Remote Control...Play, Pause, Volume And Track Control. Ability to take calls in mid music,3.5mm Headset Included... Or Use Your Own, Extended Range...Up To 330 ft., FM Radio, Wear Comfortably...Shirt Clip And Neck Strap Included, Caller ID And FM Station Display,Talk/Music Time...Up To 7hrs. Standby Time Up To 3 Days
I my case I am using it with my own Sony MDR-NX2 that comes with a convenient neck-strap, so I hang the bluetooth there, they are really comfortable, the sound is very good, you can lock the buttons, and you can find both things on ebay. I used to have and HTC advantage so it was very bulky to use it as phone, so these both products made my life easier, and now with my htc touch HD I am using them too, because I don't like the wires and the headset that comes with it. on the other hand you can use also the bluetooth with regular speakers if you own ones to streem and answer your calls from it.
the sony 980 doesn't work very well? both of you get the same results? i was thinking of buying that... if you could explain then it would be greatful thanks!
What do you guys thing about the new Sony HBH-IS800? You think they will be worth it? I mean will I be able to skip tracks with them?
Here a litte picture of the earphones:
Definitely thinking about buying them!
Ascenca
I bought a Samsung SBH650 headset BT kit for 49 euros, just wonderful with the HD ! And there's a 3.5mm jack to plug your own earphones.
You can try Jabra BT3030. It has 3.5 connector and suberb design. Quality of sound is no so perfect if you compare to wired connection, but this good compromiss between a player/phone management comfort and sound quality.

I love it every day [email protected]!
Hi,
as you noticed from the signature, after few months of happy use of the Shure Se-110 i got (thanks Pere Noel!) a pair of...
WESTONE3
The problem: my vocabulary is not good enough to describe the feelings they generate
...basses....middles...highs...
The first reaction, is to forget the audio booster and the equalizer, to learn how it should have been in reality...
Maybe the best comment is: It feels like being there.
Forgetting for a second the description of how good they are (check here for better poetry! http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f103/...thing-else-aka-w3-appreciation-thread-386477/ )
One comment specific to the touch HD: forget about the 100 dB limitation unless you bought it in EU (i got it in switzerland) and you are using stock roms. I am actually thinking to cook my ROM (see signature) to be optimized for audiophiles, all WWE ROMS are not affected by this tweak.
Thanks to everybody that answered my original question in the thread, actually the hint towards the westone3 came first from NOBELOVE - thanks NOBELOVE! - you made me see the world in colours!!!
For the best value get the Moto HT820's
The HT820's are still available from several places including Amazon and are only $38 (US)!! Really an amazing piece of equipment for the price. Great sound for music and phone calls and it does have a 3.5mm jack (cable even comes with it).
Oh, disregard my post. I was confused by the OP's question. The 820's are still pretty great for $38 though.

Best earphones with built-in microphone?

Which are the best earphones with built-in microphone for the blackstone?? Those who come with the Blackstone aren't that good...
sorry wrong forum please move this into accessories
Done.
I recommend the Moto s9s (bluetooth); worth every penny i paid for them.
Yes, Motorola SD9-HD has my vote. Comfort, sound volume are first rate. Battery life and Bluetooth range are also excellent. I was amazed at how close the sound comes to my $500 Shure SE530's (well, almost, since the Shure's are in a league of their own!). The bass response was a wonderful surprise. I was also very surprised by how nice Window Media Player on the Touch HD sounded and how well A2DP works between the two. A+ rating from me!

I think the best solution is to go to your local electronics store and buy a headset adapter w/built-in mic for the iphone, they work on the HD and allow you to answer calls. You can plug in any headphones that you like and use them in your laptop or music player as well.

Those sure look nice!
I'm no sound guru but do know that even tho the frequency range is wider than the skullcandy, that will only be noticeable with certain types of music. And the impedance will definitely play a part as well. Not sure whether the difference in the size of the speaker itself will be all that noticeable on such minute vessels but it might. If you really want to know you could post on an audio forum I suppose. I suspect the largest difference noticeable would be the in-\out ear types and everything else would be minor in comparison.

I'm in the same boat... does your MSVC work with the standard HTC headset? I had to tweak the registry to make it work. Now it needs a long press on the HTC headsetbutton to kick in. I thought that it should work with every 3,5mm headset. Can you please crosscheck with the original HTC?

Looking for headphones with mic + volume control

Hello.
I just switched to Atrix from Fuze which I used for last 4 years. One thing I'm missing is headphones with microphone AND volume control, so I don't have to pull out the phone to lower the volume..So far I wasn't able find any such headphones, just a few with mic, but no volume control..
Preferably earbuds that can be placed outside of the ear canal
Any suggestions?
Thank you.

Check those out, I just bought them, received them today. I heard many good things about it and read many reviews, almost all of them excellent. They have very exceptional sound quality, and come with a charger and three sets of ear buds. two of them larger, and one small. The larger ones work best for me. It works great for calling. It also has an added HD feature which can be activated or deactivated. The best part about it is... No cords! Even though it's bluetooth, the sound quality is so much better then normal headphones.

I have the s4i's and they do not work for volume control on the Atrix. The microphone does work however. I absolutely love the headphones and their sound quality is fantastic for music. Easily the best sub $100 headphones I've owned. Their remote however, is designed to work with iOS devices. I came from a 3gs to the Atrix which is why I bought them and they worked great with the 3gs. The remote does not function with the Atrix though.

Believe it or not the head phones sound better without the hd on due to an ear condition I have. Thanks for the info.

So are there ANY wired headsets that work w/ the Atrix and allow music pause/resume and phone call answer/hangup?
I love the phone, but every time I slap my SIM back in my iPhone 4, it's such a frickin' relief that I can count on pausing audio playback, and answering calls by clicking my mic button.
I realize that w/ Android, there is not only no standardized hardware, but the music playback apps vary in functionality. For the record, I use Double Twist, and mostly listen to podcasts. Man, I would kill for an in-ear headset that could be controlled by the mic biutton. I don't even care about volume control at this point, it seems like an absurd fantasy to hope for such a thing on the Atrix.

Search for Headset Button Controller on the market. It's not a free app but it allows you to play, pause, or skip your music and it allows you to answer and end calls. It functions with any pair of headsets that have a button control. This is what I'm currently using and it works great. The app is only $2. 25 and there is a trial version you can test out before you purchase it. But of course the paid version functions better than the trial.

Hey, thanks for the suggestion. The app didn't work w/ one pair of headphones (Skullcandy 50/50) I own, but seems to work w/ the other (some other super cheap Skullcandy). At least for pause/resume (the working cheap pair doesn't have volume control integrated). Worth the $2.50 considering how much I drop on a set of headphones. Much obliged.

Someone else suggested the Sony MW600 and they rock!
There's a bit of a delay when using the buttons, but the sound quality is perfect! Almost like actually plugging in your headphones.

I never liked using wired headphones to any mobile gadgets, especially the Atrix. Makes me feel like every other iPhone users out there. I like to rock my music and answer calls wirelessly and with style.

I guess to everyone is their own...I never cared much about how I look or what other think about me using wired headphones. If wireless headphones can be used none-stop for 12-15 hours on my bicycle trips without need carry extra batteries then sure, I'd use them, but I doubt there are any or even close to that exists yet.
P.S.
Your "wireless" headphones don't look too "wireless" to me...what's the point?
I guess alot would rather stick their atrix in their jeans and have a 20 feet wire dangling around the waist area. Thats rather ridiculous looking.
12-15hrs? are you trying to scale mount everest by biking uphill? LOL!
I bike quite alot too especially the summer weather here and having a wire sticking out either casual biking or terrain biking spells disaster. Also, for safety's sake, did u not read anything about bike safety? u shouldnt be biking while having ur headset on. You should be paying attention. I dont think u should be biking then. No such thing as accident bud.....
PS:
Rather than a 20feet wire dangling around your neck. Only wonder woman I know carries a lasso. ROFL!!!

That Sony adapter is interesting. Especially in that you can use it w/ any standard set of headphones. So does it pause/resume and answer calls fine w/ the Atrix? Does it depend on the app? I tend to use DoubleTwist, so that where I'd want the button control to work.

Buy uldem earphones on aliexpress. They are cheap and acceptably good.
Sent from my HUAWEI MT7-TL10 using Tapatalk
I just buy them from aliexpress. Item: Huawei-Active-Noise-Cancelling-earphone-AM180 for only $ 74.89.
The seller sent me an email indicating they only have then gray colour in stock.
It is supposed to receive these headphones in two weeks.
I'll tell you...
:fingers-crossed:
Hi All,
I own that set and it's worth the price. Especialy that You do not need to charge noise cancelation by microusb but it's automaticaly charged from Mate 7. Sound is amazing, espacialy good if You using public transport or going somewere by plane. Mindblowing. Also if You press button twice it's working like "next" button.

Please tell us more about your experience. comparing it to other headphones possibly? Thanks!
Until now i was using mostly over-ear headphones, i have sony zx600, sennheiser hd238 etc. I also have small beats. But this is something diferent. Small beats just give You a lo of base and nothing more. Huawei gives you rich experience on high and low tones, also noise cancellation is great. If i had to compare it to something, sound it's simillar or better to bose qc20 but with better materials used to build. Check bose qc20 in a shop if you like it , you can easily buy huawei
i use soundmagic pl30, they are cheaper and awesome

+1.
I am rockin E10S(bit less boomy than pl30 but better overall sound IMO). Probably the best earphone for that price, they really perform like much pricier 'phones, plus you get little switch that makes them working with EVERY android phone. They're not noise cancelling tho, only noise isolating but isolation is quite good and enough for most environments.
I'm after Adagios III from Final Audio Design, which are completely different league from (already great) Soundmagic's. Sadly, they don't come with mic and music remote

I bought those AM180 in April 2015 and by December the plug started cutting out the left ear
Have yours failed by now as well?
Anyone know which plug I can order, if it's even possible to self-fix these special AM180 plugs that also charge the headset..?
Will charge function work with the mate 8?
yes it works with MATE 8

3.5mm jack is very bad quality! (or just software?)

I was really hoping to get at least normal headphones output from poco x3, its a poco device, no? I've used poco f1 for 2 years now, sound output from 3.5mm jack was nice and loud (at least), im using it with blon-03 and sound is, man, i cant listen to it more than a few minutes (ear fatigue is horrible). Can't believe that anyone didn't noticed this BIG issue.. cmon i havent heard such a bad sound EVER. Tried to use xiaomi's headphone presets, equalizer, sound calibration.. not even close .. after a few days (after update) tried it once more, aaand flashback, sound is simply said non usable. NO BASS, MIDS PAINFULLY SHARP, EAR PIERCING HIGHS.
im deeply disappointed, if this ENORMOUS issue is due low quality 3.5mm jack... not just software (writing this with fisical PAIN in my ears)
Nah its not that bad need some Viper to boost it and schould be fine ofc depends on what headphones you use maybe u need some external amp and dac idk

as i said.. on poco f1 i didn't expected hi quality dac, and i was satisfied with sound quality and loudness, i use blon 03 earbuds (iem) and there's no bass.. and overall quality is not good... ill try some apps, maybe it will help
Might be a dumb suggestion, but make sure you're actually plugging in the jack all the way in. I've heard complaints before on other phones, and the reason was because the last 0.5mm was not pushed in. Often times cases can block the full engagement of the jack depending on the design.

Didn't Xiaomi specify that the POCO X3 was HI-Res Audio certified?
I'm having doubts as to whether I should buy this phone. I want that sweet 24-bit/192kHz audio!
I'm still waiting for my phone to arrive, but this would be one of the first things I check. That said, there is a small possibility that your jack may be defective, or something else going on in the background. I've had my fair share of cheap crappy mp3 players in the past and the worst sounding DAC I've ever experienced was still passable to 99% of the general public.
This review of the Poco X3 tested the frequency response from the DAC and it looks perfectly fine.

What you described in the opening post certainly sounds as defective. The typical deviation in phone DAC quality is usually very subtle and only noticed by a very small subset of people with high end headphones. There is definitely something wrong if you are getting "NO BASS" and ear piercing highs.
Is anyone else experiencing the same?
That sounds like a defective unit, either that or you're VERY picky.
I don't know with other people but for me the sound quality is good with punchy bass, mid is quite good I can hear it clearly and high is good and details. Overall I'm really satisfied with the sound quality :good:
Can someone confirm the audio output quality via the jack by comparing with other devices.
Would really help me to make my buying decision ;/
