Hi everyone,
My Mi 8 was on miui_MI8Global_V10.0.3.0.OEAMIFH,rooted with Magisk
version 17.3.
Received Ota notification from the builtin updater app, then itself updated
to miui_MI8Global_V10.1.1.0.PEAMIFI(with boot.img patched by Magisk).
After update,everything works fine,except root is lost,so I use Magisk(version
18.0) patch the boot.img again and rooted again, still everything works fine till now.
Anti rollback value = 1
This is my report.
Updated to miui_MI8Global_V10.1.2.0.PEAMIFI_e42df0352a_9.0,lost root again.
Follow steps mention above , Rooted again.

Thanks for your report mate. Have you done the update to the latest 10.1.2?
My phone updated itself even I had not to do so and now I am on pie with lost root.
I have the latest update over the air and wondering how to update and get root again.
I have unlocked bootloader
Twrp
And unfortunately android pie 10.1.1 with ARB. :/

Successfully updated to 10.1.2 with stock updater. /it rebooted to twrp and istalled the update/
I had bootloop into twrp
I flashed magisk 17.1 and Disable_Dm-Verity_FEC_v1.1.zip with wipe dalvic and cach. Booted into system and in magiks manager updated to the latest v. 18.
Got the system booted and works. Annoyingly auto brightness ? jumping all the time. Battery life is a joke. Notch CANNOTBE HIDDEN!!!

Thank you.
Now I can discount unmodified Global ROM to be the cause of the Region issue.

Oreo stock root

It seems it is impossible to get root with magisk on latest Oreo stock. Maybe someone found solution?
I asked and I answer =)
To get the root it is required to
- install latest TWRP (current version twrp-3.2.1-0)
- reboot to TWRP
- install 16.2 or higher magisk, link for 16.2
- install f2fs bug workaround
- reboot system
- install magisk Manager
- enjoy your root =)

its not work for me:crying:
Try to follow this guide then: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z-play/how-to/guide-how-to-magisk-root-xposed-oreo-8-t3743273
But use latest magisk beta instead of suggested 15.3.
And keep in mind that it is possible to easily restore working state with magisk uninstaller.
Do you have any errors during magisk or workaround installation in twrp console?

There is magisk uninstaller provided in official thread.
To remove twrp you just need to flush original recovery via fastboot
Hello guys, can I have some advice on whether I should install this latest Oreo update on my moto z, how is the battery doing on this update? And overall experience?
@dolar4ik
i reflash the stock oreo ROM,then flash TWRP,flash magisk, flash f2fs bug workaround, stuck at bootloader logo, how can i do it??
Flash the Magisk uninstaller, reboot to recovery (you have this option in TWRP) and flash again only the Magisk 16.3 (without the f2fs bug workaround). This worked for me two days ago.
Today I updated to the latest Magisk 16.4 without any problems.

This is right.
I re-flashed my phone using the OPL27.76-51 firmware. Now, no way to install Magisk (old, new, any version).
The solution, I restored a TWRP backup made at the first bootloader unlock (when the ROM was updated only using OTAs, not flashed). Immediately I was able to install Magisk 16.4 - without any F2FS workaround.
HERE is my TWRP backup containing the partitions: Boot, Data & System. Hope it helps!

Uninstall magisk with it's own uninstaller.
I installed Magisk on the full Oreo release and everything is working.
I did make a "less bloat, less bs" zip version but I doubt it would make a change.
If you guys want, I can upload it when I get home.

how to root the device by magisk?

In next 2 weeks my mi pad 4 LTE will come to me.
Could you tell me, how to root it by magisk?
1) unlock it by xiaomi (360 hours waiting)
2) flash twrp
3) flash magisk
4) reboot
That is all I need to do to get a root ?)

Usually you don't even have to flash TWRP recovery if you want to keep original recovery, you can just boot it with "fastboot boot twrp.img".
Just a FYI, the latest magisk 17 has not been working for me. Magisk 16 works just fine.

On what Rom you have this problem with Magisk ?
I use Mi Pad 4 LTE and Magisk 17.1 on AOSP 8.1_v25 and everything works as it should.
Magisk it has nothing to do with Modem/Baseband he patching Kernel.
After using Magisk uninstaller or restore stock Kernel works for you LTE ?

I use MIUI10.I cannot understand why.But after I flash magisk again,LTE works well.
Could you please explain where I find the mipad 4 boot image when using this method to patch it?
When choosing the option in magisk manager to patch boot image I have to search for the original boot image to patch as the app doesn't point staight to it...
Many thanks
@Tysovwik, I see you want keep miui. You have to block overwriting recovery by original one. I have seen option for it in twrp, but i have not tested it. The same you can have if you use special zip package.
Twrp has second option for auto install magisk 17.1, but i installed it from zip file (twrp labeled 20.12.2018 can have 18.0)
is this the best way to Root a Mi Pad 4 LTE ?

Does anyone know if I still have to do step (1) ? or how that is done ?
Some noobie questions.
I already have TWRP installed in my Mi pad 4, and want to keep my original MIUI rom
To install Magisk what should I do next?
Just flash magisk from twrp?
Do I need to flash no-verify-opt-encrypt.zip?
Select any option of wipe in twrp before flashing Magisk?
If I get a bootloop can I just use Magisk unistaller?

I would wipe cache /dalvik cache before and wipe cache again after flashing. But yeah, just flash the magisk zip. You check in the settings under security if your device is encrypted, which I'm guessing it probably is already. In which case there's no need to flash no verify encrypt zip. Unless you want to have no encryption. In which case you'll have to start all over, complete format in twrp then flash magisk and no encrypt zip before first boot.
If you want to stay encrypted (assuming you are already), just flash magisk. I haven't done it in a while! So not sure if magisk manager will be installed with zip flash, if it's not there when you boot to system, just download and install latest magisk manager. You can always then download a root checker app from playstore to be sure all went well.
Good luck dude

H850 Oreo flash/Magisk fix?

Anyone have any solution for the flash to work with magisk?
If i uninstall and install SU my flash will work?
Replace the kernel with the MK2000, flashing it with TWRP after Magisk, and the flash will be back.

It's still a beta version, but on my phone is working perfectly.
You can find it here, in the same thread of the Nougat version: h850 mk2000 kernel
I installed the kernel and after magisk again but the flash light is not working again.
I get the same error.
I have to wipe everything again?
Never mind i just flashed mk again without flashing magisk again and its working.

I get the same problem.
After flashing TWRP I do this:
don't wipe Data, but "format" data (you have to type "yes" to delete encryption)
intall Magisk-v17.1.zip
install xposed-v90-sdk26-arm64-beta3 (optional)
install driver Adreno 530 rev21 non treble (optional)
install as last zip: KERNEL MK2000 v1.0 Beta5 (for OREO)
reboot system
now flashlight works fine.
So installing "no-verity-opt-encrypt" (DM-verify) is not necessary.
P.S.
I was on Fulmics 5.5 (stock 7.x) with unlocked bootloader, the correct twrp flashing for me was this:
with LGUP
flash kdz android 7.x (flag on refurbish) (I tried upgrading directly to 8.x, but the G5 was gone in bootloop)
flash kdz android 8.x (flag on upgrade)
(the bootloader still remain unlocked, so you have not flash unlock partition with unlock.bin file)
Phase 2
Boot, skip all settings, Enable Developer, enable Debug USB and accept request permissions etc...
open ADB and type
reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
don't reboot!
remove cable, remove battery, reinsert battery
power on in recovery mode (correctly, or you have to return at Phase 2)
double yes for reset factory (to enter in recovery)
you should enter in TWRP recovery
Is there any way to fix the "flashlight" bug with the stock kernel, still with the stock recovery
and rooting with Magisk by patching the boot image beforehand and flashing it in fastboot ?
I tried using the mk2000 kernel, but no img image is provided for this, only a zip,
but I don't want to root by using TWRP and flashing zips.
Why, I want systemless root, in case OTA updates will appear.
Thank you.
Even though I'd really suggest you to install TWRP permanently (if you accidentally enter in the stock recovery, the whole internal memory gets erased permanently), you may try to install Magisk from TWRP and then flash again the stock recovery.img using fastboot.
By the way, the Magisk zip is systemless: it doesn't flash executables on the system partition; it's just packed as a zip file for convenience to be easily read by TWRP.
On the other hand, if you want both original kernel and Magisk with a working flashlight, you can't. Flashlight with Magisk only works with MK2000 kernel at the moment.
It's new version mk2000 kernel v2.0 stable version from 04 January 2019, for Oreo try it. I want to unlock BL and make root, pls tell us it is flash work ? Sorry for my English.

I din't try the latest version, but I'm currently using mk2000 with unlocked bootloader and Magisk, and everything (both root and flash) is ok.
Edit: I now have the latest version of mk2000, and I can confirm everything is ok.
My flashlight and camera flashlight are not working too. I have to back read just in case I am not the only one with the same problem. I see there is a lo of suggestion and I tried it and it worked like a charm. I used H850_v1.0-mk2000 to make it work.

As its downloaded already I would suggest to install it as it will get installed during the next time your device gets rebooted ?
Just root it again. and then disable updates if you dont want them.
To use OTA update you have to flash the stock recovery_ramdisk of your version.
Then do the OTA update.
Afterwards you can reflash TWRP etc. and magisk.
It's just a few minutes of effort so totally worth to do it every 1-2 month from my point of view.
Can you help me ? How can i get the recovery ramdisk and how to flash it alone

Download an ota file with FirmwareFinder of your current firmware version. Extract the UPDATE.APP file and use HuaweiUpdateExtractor to get a stock recovery ramdisk img file.

Uninstalled Magisk, done latest OTA, but can't install Magisk to inactive slot

Hi there,
i'm rooted and i installed the latest OTA (oxygen os 10.3.7.hd01AA - india rom maybe because i used a patched boot.img in the first time months ago) right now and just like all the times before i made the usual steps:
1) Restored Original Image via Magisk Manager
2) Downloaded and installed OTA
3) Didn't reboot and tried to Install Magisk to inactive slot
Unfortunately 3 didn't work. More than that - Magisk Manager doesn't even recognized Magisk was uninstalled. So there is no Installation option.
Tried to Uninstall it again (Restore Original Image) but that didn't change anything.
a) Was the 2nd "Restore Original Image" after installing the OTA a bad idea?
b) How can i install Magisk now?
I don't reboot the phone as i think it could be bricked after that.

Well the procedure is disable all magisk modules. Reboot. Take the update don't reboot when the updater says to. Go to magisk select patch to inactive slot let it do it's thing then reboot
for now make a new patched one based on your current is to obtain root like you did initially
Ex pull your current non root boot img patch it in magisk then flash in fastboot
If you need I can grab the India ROM from Updater and make you a patched boot image?
I've already done it for HD01AA EU and HD01BA
Hey, i could manage to install Magisk into inactive slot after updating Magisk manager to the latest version. I would try to reboot now?
If I would like to patch my current boot.img - how can I do so?
