Mi 8 Lite, worth waiting 15 days for unlock? - Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite Questions & Answers

hey XDA fellows, i recently got a Mi 8 Lite, and when attempting to unlock, turns out i have to wait 15 days (360 hours), which is fine i guess (not really happy about it but Xiaomi is Xiaomi). now, if it wasn't for Treble, i wouldn't have gotten this phone since it clearly won't see much love from developers, but since Treble is available, i figured why not, but then i remembered that Treble GSIs aren't always 100% functional on all devices. sooo, my question being, is it worth waiting 15 days to unlock and test out Treble? did anyone attempt installing a GSI, and was it functioning fine?
im mainly curious because the site i got it from, ironically, has a 15 day return policy, exactly as much as the unlock wait time, and that won't be enough time to test out 10 different GSIs then actually test out whatever works. so, should i return it now and save myself the trouble or is it worth keeping it around? thanks ahead.

There are some attempts to maintain a Treble on the Internet but personally I haven't tried them because I am not interested in the GSI. Sources: https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/wiki/Xiaomi-Mi-8-Lite
https://www.whatsnewofficial.com/mi-8-lite-gsi/

Super late reply, but I've been using the Pixel Experience Unofficial 9.0 GSI on my phone (Mi 8 SE) since September 2018. It's worked very well for me. There are some minor things that didn't work for me, but no deal breakers. The biggest issue I have is that I can't make phone calls over bluetooth. I don't make enough calls for this to be a deal breaker for me and I typically prefer a wired headset anyway.

I would not do it, I got a mi 8 lite 15 days ago, did all the stuff needed and it told me to wait 360 hours and when it was up i went to unlock last night and it says NO......'I must use my device more' wait another 7 days LOL. So it's getting returned to amazon tomorrow morning I'm trusting a company that pulls that sort of scam but I'm only 16 days in and I can return with no hassle.

Definitely! I've been using the Xiaomi.eu ROM since a few weeks, I'm in love with it.

HAPPY!!. I have to say the Z3v has been the most solid phone I have owned out of all the ones I have had and that goes all the way back to that turd the Eris. I really dont see anything in the market thats worth switching to. I gave up on rooting my stuff a couple years ago so Im still without the ability to make calls and surf internet at the same time but that is the ONLY drawback to this phone. Very happy I left samsung for this phone.

You don't need to root to get advanced calling. Flash the latest ftf (.509) and you'll be on 5.0.2 There is a workaround that should get advanced calling working.
One of the reasons I dropped Rooting and Roms was it always had some bug or tick that showed up in reliability or I would get busy and be so behind my Ronm was out of date and there was n more support.
Is This .509 going to put me right back there again cause I love the way this phone never fuggs up.
Over a year in and I'm just livid at "Big Head Red" smh!! No support on this phone whatsoever and a broken promise on Lollipop... remember these words... Lollipop update in Early 2015?!?
Granted, I know the update promise was from Sony. FWIW - I heard the update has been available for some time now, but "Big Head Red" doesn't care to act upon it.
Lesson learned - I will never buy a carrier phone again! A Nexus 6p has been ordered and very soon, waiting for software updates will be a thing of the past. Shame on Big Head Red because the Z3v is a really good phone.
Agreed!!!
Traded mine In over the weekend. Had the phone a year and just got pissed and couldn't stand it.
Had to pay 40 dollars to hit 75% on my z3v then they ate the 150 I had left.
Got a note 5 and it is a tremendous upgrade. Nearly the same size with .5 inch more screen. Battery life is consistent where my z3v would get 7 hrs sot then sometimes 2.

Voice over Wi-Fi, it just got released on vzw advanced calling 2..0 but only for Samsung S6. Sony Z3/compact has marshmallow already,we don't even have an official lollipop release.

Voice over WiFi has been out much much longer from T-Mobile. You should be able to tell that Samsung had Verizon up to their necks with bags of cash to have priority on their flagship phones.
Sony's Z3 series having marshmallow is a test run, and of course I understand there still isn't an official Lollipop release for the Z3v. Regardless really, blaming Verizon is what we've been doing and we're still on it, so why bother to stop complaining now?

Future P9000 user. Worth to buy?

Hello.
I have questions for current users of P9000. I do not have this phone. I can buy new P9000 for 180 USD. What you think? It is good idea? Chinese phones are always good "on paper" but always have bugged stock roms. We have any stable rom for P9000 for daily use without pain in ass? If you had to choose, would you buy it a second time?
Please help me decide.
Regards
I bought it but I am not hapy with it.
Camera from the biginning was not well, and now stopped at all by itself. I did not drop or do something just in one day it stopped to launch.
Edge of display came of from the body. Battery drain is good if you don't use 3G.
If you want good phone search among Xiaomi , Meizu or ZTE.
For me "ZTE nubia z11 Mini" is good.
Definitely not. Gps, fast charge and camera are not good enough. Android pay does not work..buy one plus 3
Its is a good phone , interesting phone, but google pay not working, when it is working its is a great phone....

I think its all about expectations. For me after rooting and flashing Eragon ROM I am happy with what I paid for. Don't expect Samsung/Apple standards for its camera its really bad compared to those. I dont use google/android pay so that doesn't bug me.
For that price I don't think you can get anything better.
I'm not sure what Google pay is but there is no problem buying apps with the phone.
GPS is not perfect but usable, same with the camera.
Battery time is very good at least for me. Twice I have left the phone fully charge at 10 pm and att 5 am I have 100% & 99%. This is with wifi and sync on. When I hade 99% there was a Titanium Backup of all user apps 200+ in the middle of the night.
Fast charge I don't know anything about, I charge the phone during night so that would not be an issue.
I have Eragon ROM on the phone.
The physical device itself is pretty solid but the stock software, as of present, is similar to that of an early beta build.
I'd advise you don't take the leap as I believe Elephone shouldn't be encouraged for releasing an incomplete phone.
I would not buy again. External SD doesn't work at all. Had to factory reset after update to get fingerprints back. Spontaneous reboots & alarms unreliable since last OTA update. I'd spend more money and get OnePlus 3 or used OnePlus 2.

External SD works just fine. Fingerprints dissapearing after an update of software is a known issue but a very minor inconvenience - all you have to do is add them back again. Which software version are you currently on?
20160810
I knew about the fingerprint issue but misread something from the release notes that caused me to think it had been fixed. It's not that they go missing, it's that they remain used but unrecoverable, so I went for a few weeks with only one fingerprint. No biggie.
My SD Card has never, ever worked. It's as though it's not even there. SIM works fine in that slot though.
In general I find the phone is not quite stable enough that I would recommend it to anyone else to buy, but it's not quite unstable enough that I sent it back, although I might have done if I'd had a decent spare.
Sent from my P9000 using Tapatalk
On paper it sounds good but too many bugs for me to use as a my daily driver so sent back to Amazon. GPS not great, fingerprint unlock not reliable. Unable to send or receive text without rebooting occasionally which was the biggie for me.
You get what you pay for, all phones have problems at one time or another no phone is perfect, GPS after lock works fine, finger print a bit slow but never had a problem as such, Camera isn't the problem it's the software use a different app and it's not that bad and I still have an Xperia Z1 so i can compare, Android Pay i live in the UK all bank card are contactless why fiddle about with a phone when it easier to just pull out your bank card the number of time i've stood behind some one trying to pay for something with their IPhone is mind numbing, you can make calls you can send texts you can receive calls and texts, if you have a higher budget then try something else if not this phone is as good or as bad as any.

I suspected exactly that, Carl.
I am considering this phone, too. Most of my friends have Apple and Samsung high ends (that what's absolutely dominates the market here in Singapore), some of them are already on the 3. device while I still have my 2 yo crappy beaten-up Zenfone 5 ... it's as well not without flaws but surprisingly solid. I'm 100% off the high end stuff. The time we payed high end money and really got something feelably and visably better is long over. Yep, more money buys me better, but now it's not always, and not 3 - 4 times better.

New 6P Owner!

Hello fine people,
I ordered a Nexus 6P last night at 10 p.m., it arrived at 10 a.m., and after spending 1 hour reading on this forum, I am now bootloader unlocked, rooted and running Dark ROM (for now).
This was the easiest thanks @Heisenberg
Never had an easier time getting unlock and rooted.
Have any of you experienced a Huawei Mate 8 - I picked one up last month and soft bricked it 3 times in one week. You don't want to go there - with EMUI - a headache (but fun challenge) to mod. So, this device was juuuuuust a bit easier.
I am late to the party, but happy to own this great device as an upgrade to my Nexus 6. I look forward to reading, experiencing all the ROMs and great development for this device.

but you do though
not a best buy unless you get it for $100, i paid $400 for a 128gb last year and it is still worthless,
the phone is useless garbage it overheats with nothing even running, and SOT is less than 2 hours no matter what you do to it ,it's pure garbage
also good luck making voice calls nobody can hear you on the other end the mic sucks it's noise cancellation is broken and google never bothered to fix it , also they remove miracast

and what do you get for SOT?
my phone can't even get 2 hours with doing nothing at all , if i actually were to use a demanding app it would be considerably much less
and today i put it on hotspot for like 20 min its screen was off and it was in my pocket and it was considerably hot
just about any app i run on it it gets hot right away , even doing barely anything in chrome it get hot
it is nearly impossible to get it to get more than 2hr SOT even with brightness almost all the way down
the phone is worthless garbage it is dead after not even 2 hours of lite use , i never even bothered putting any games on it , it would probably explode
most demanding thing i tried to do was watch a movie on kodi , i get about 20 min into it and the phone is alredy going dead and at 15% after 20 min
it's a piece of ****

Well, if you insist, though I'm not getting any of the problems you're experiencing, like voice calls and overheating, at least no more than any other phone. It looks like your definition of a best buy reflects your experience. I bought my 64GB in November and for the price I paid for it in my region, it was a best buy compared to other phones. It's even cheaper now. Haven't experienced a single freeze till now. A friend bought the Mate 9 a couple of weeks ago. Stock and froze twice since then.

the standby time is a lot better than it was on MM though , on MM it would lose 65% from when i went to bed till when i woke up , now it gets much better standby but SOT is even worse than before

that is utter horse ****
you tell me what settings i can change that will miraculously quadruple the battery life of this hunk of garbage then
I love my 6p. This is #2 6p for me and I doubt I'll ever get a pixel but looking at the One Plus for my next one once I flash this one to death in about a year hopefully it lasts that long. Bought it used for cheap. Excellent device imo. My favorite device I have ever owned. Cheers. ?

Whatever you're doing, it's all on your end. I easily get 4 hours SOT everyday, with 200+ apps installed.
Also... Any phone that you turn the hotspot on and throw it in your pocket, of course it's going to overheat. ?

i think it is just defective then and probably 60% of them are the same way from what i read other places it does not seem isolated , and i don't usually do that i only did it today because i went to best buy to look for a new phone and their wifi sucks and none of their phones would go online and i wanted to test them , was looking at the axon 7 and the moto x pure as a replacement to this hunk of garbage, unfortunately they are all plugged in and no way to gauge battery life on them
and i have used hotspot on an old iphone 5 before and it never once got hot even after over an hour of being on , this thing was about to go all note 7 and burn my **** off after just 15 min of use
why would having more apps negatively effect battery?
this phone has barely anything on it and when i got it let almost nothing but the stock apps on it and it was always draining this fast , i left it with almost nothing but stock apps to test it and it never got more than 2:15 SOT
with nothing running, any app i run it gets warm chrome youtube doesn't matter what it gets really warm in 2 minutes and battery drains at like 1 or 2 % per minute , brightness at little over 1/8th no bluetooth on no gps no bluetooth location on
I think I got 5½ hrs before last year. I normally don't use more than 2 hrs cause of work. I had elex kernel with custom settings and it was still responsive as usual. I think the sot variations have to do with quality of chips and like with binning a cpu

So long and thanks for all the fish...

After 3 good but at times frustrating years I say good bye to my LG V10. Welcome Pixel 3. I hope we have as long a run.
Sadly the V10, which is more than capable of running all newer versions of android as is the case with many phones, was left abandoned by the side of the road by LG and Verizon. It is a sad because the V10 is still a more than capable phone. I am passing mine off to another family member running a LG G Vista (great phone except for the 3 gig of storage left after Android take it's share of the 8 gig of storage).
I hope root does still come to this phone. It would be nice to be able to tweak it for my family member.
Now we move on to the Pixel 3 and its issues but also updated OS and security patches.
Peas out.
I have a question for some soul out there. It's been awhile since I had to do anything on this phone., but I've retained root when since it was available.
How do I go about wiping everything off it and resetting it but maintaining the root? I have forgotten sequences with this phone
I figure I can sell it.
Thanks for the assistance

Buying used poco

Hi folks how are you all doing?
So I have a question and maybe one of you will be able to awnser me.
I have a Mi6, but I got stolen last year, and a few months latter I managed to get it back. But I got it back with a few problems... The biggest one and the most annoying was the wifi, it just stopped working, I tried everything. The other annoying thing is that I only managed to install the stock rom, every other custom rom, even those MIUI based didn't work.
So, if with my original phone I already had a few problem after getting it "second hand", if I buy a used pocophone, would a simple clean up of the sellers phone enought to save me from some annoyances like the ones I had. I really doesn't like MIUI, the notification is so broke that unlocking it and installing a custom rom is a must for me
Thank you

I can actually buy a second hand oneplus 6 for 5~10% more than a brand new pocophone. But the 700mAh more of the poco, the lack of a wide used quick charge technology and the screen burn in is getting me away from this option.

As u wish.
My advice is always buy 2nd hand phone with decent hardware(quality, not quantity).
There's absolutely no harm in buying a used Poco F1 or any device for that matter, I've been buying used devices (only mobiles) since a long time and trust me I've had no issues so far. Make sure you're buying a fully functional device and there are no hardware related defects.
I'm currently using a Poco F1 that I bought few months ago and this is a used one too.
if you don't like MIUI on different level! don't buy MI fones again! I believe Mi6 was on Android ONe?
there are many other options for you to consider!
Samsung /Huwaie /Xperia /oneplus (6 is cheaper now) /nokia is on stock android but nokia has no flasher and minimum developement on xda
