Mate 10 Pro, EMUI 9, No notifications problem - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

I just updated to EMUI 9.0 on my Mate 10 Pro. I did a wipe data and cache to be sure to not have bugs etc.
But I'm having problem with notifications of majority of apps.
I can receive notifications from Aqua Mail (push disabled), sometimes Whatsapp (not always), but not Telegram and some other apps.
I disabled settings in Settings->Battery->App launch e I setted them all in manage manually.
I disabled battery optimization for all the app of which I don't receive notifications.
I obviously not activated battery saving mode (I also tried performance mode)
I rebooted phone more than once.
I also tried to keep the app open in foreground (in recent apps), but nothing.
I noticed that when I open the app that didn't give me notifications it loads the messages or emails, there are not loaded in background, I need to open the app and make them load to make them appear.
Am I the only one with this problem?

If some you has mate 10 Pro with emui 9 and push notifications work fine let me know please

I have a non pro and all works fine.
I did a factory reset. U did wipe data and cache?
How did u do that, in settings is only the factory reset. Ciao

I first did a factory reset from settings.
Then I entered recovery menu and did a wipe data + wipe cache.

How did you enter recovery? What's the combination? I was able to enter it in EMUI 8 but I'm not on EMUI 9

Not alone

You are not alone there is a host of problems with the new update and this device.
I have same problem you speak of but it doesnt stay consistent. Sometimes i will get the notifications and another time i have to open the app. On my mate 9 i only get whatsapp notifications when i load the app and my third party apps do not work once the screen goes off.
Both devices now have an end call issue where another call is automatically sent out when i end the previous call.
The i am sent to the recent apps window in the midle of typing in whats app or fb messenger or automatically returned to home screen while browsing

I also have this problem with my Huawei Mate 10 Pro. A lot of my apps don't show notifiactions even though they are turned on and all setup is correct. Very enoying. However, some apps show notifications though.

Problem with push notifications

I searched XDA, Google and the official site of LeEco. I have found similar problems with push notification(Whatsapp, Email.) But no direct solution for the leEco max 2.
I've tried different roms, chinese and india, because of the EUI layout that i like.
I tried all the settings that are mentioned: Priority notification on, no battery saving, no clearing of tasks, installing Push notification fixer, reinstalled from scratch, and now on stock indian 5.8.19S.
But still no push notification when the phone is in sleep mode. After 30 minutes no use. Only after manualy activation of the phone.:crying:
Has anybody a solution for the EUI Rom? Or is the only option to try CM on the phone?
I appreciate all the help. Big Thanx in advance.:fingers-crossed:
In addition to what you have mentioned, you should put these apps in auto launch mode+app protection from phone manager.
Make sure that you have also enabled auto-sync data from account management.
Whatsapp and messenger notifications are working fine with these settings on indian rom 19s. However, I faced problems with Gmail notifications in other customs roms.
Autolaunch and app protection usually solves it

Settings plus, did it for me.
The Enable background resource control in the hidden menu.........I switched it off............no problem anymore for me with notifications. Whatsapp, Gmail, etc..... @sdevaux Thanx for the useful tip. @lukam01 and @anameeeen for helping out
This looks like a global sync issue that I've been trying to solve for almost a month now. Coming from the Xiaomi Mi Note Pro, I've been experiencing the same exact auto sync problems on both the Note Pro, and the Le Max 2. Gmail and Yahoo mail (or any other email client that I've tried) won't sync and give notifications unless I open the apps manually and refresh. I tried pretty much everything I could find on the internet to no success. Whatsapp works most of the time, but every once in a while it start's doing the same.
Power management is off, the apps involved have all the required permissions, they're set to auto launch, global sync is enabled (tried turning it off and on again to no effect), and of course, sync is also enabled in each individual app. Background resource control is off (hidden menu).
I have removed my accounts from both devices countless times, cleared the cache, data, uninstalled/reinstalled the apps, re-added the accounts individually...
I don't know what's going on, but I'm talking about 2 different devices and 2-3 different roms on both (the devices were set up as new every single time, not restored with Ti Backup), so I'm pretty sure it's a global issue.
Same issues here. In addition, some apps just plain don't work if the phone is asleep. I prefer using Google Clock for my alarms, and textra for my text messages. However, if the phone is asleep, the alarm will NEVER sound and I will NOT get text messages. I'm not just talking about not getting notifications for text messages, I'm talking that if someone sends me a text message I will not EVER get it. They only way to fix is to use the STOCK clock and text apps. Crazy.

Yes, but this did NOT help fix the Google Clock app. I have read other threads with people having the same issue with some google apps. The theory seems to be that perhaps the way gapps is added by LeEco into their roms breaks something having to do with notification system.
Maybe try an indian base rom, like Revolution 19s. Inadian roms have google apps natively installed

But I believe the Indian Roms also encrypt your phone by default, CN roms don't. Don't want any encryption slowing down my phone.
Stock Indian roms encrypt data, but in revolution version the encrypition is removed by rom developer

I have the same problem, I try all roms, the only rom that works and enable notifications even in sleep mode it is cuoco92 5.8.015S
It's a big problem for Leeco, notification doesn't work correctly
It's a Rom issue. Works perfect for me with Mokee
can you guys confirm that in mokee and cuoco all notifications work well. i tried everything from forums and this thread, whatsapp is fixed, but i simply cant force gmail notifications to come properly. huge disappointment in this phone because of it. so i just want this to work with stable custom rom and that camera works as in stock rom...any recommendations?thanks
anyone,please?
Use lucky patcher and move your Gmail/inbox to system app. Works for me.
I have same issue after a while notifications stop to work, resetting Google play services helps but issue occurs after few hours again. Trying to install different versions to see if it helps. For now also stopped Android Wear...
Using cuoco92 Rom S20v65
Make apps can launch automatically, work for me

Same here. I'm on tiny eui which is hard on 20s and I have done all the power and app settings. Every app works and I get notifications but alarms through alarm clock extreme will not go off when the phone is in deep sleep. I cannot figure it out.

Not receiving any notifications (CNN app on Android)

I'm using the latest version of "CNN Breaking US & World News" -app on Android downloaded from Google Play. The device I'm using is LG V30+ running Android 7.1.2 with latest security patches. The device isn't rooted.
Otherwise the app works just fine, but I'm unable to receive any notifications from the app. So far I've tried the different notification customizing options the app has built-in (including turning silent hours on and off and changing the density of news notifications per day). I've also deleted the cache and data of the app from the system settings and deleted and reinstalled the app quite a few times now. I've also restarted the phone multiple times and checked that the CNN app has proper notification permissions in system settings (and that the notifications aren't blocked or anything) and that no battery optimization is turned on for the app.
Other apps that I've installed on my phone are displaying their notifications just fine including CNN MoneyStream app that I've also installed. The CNN main app also displays notifications currently on my two other devices (my older Nexus 6P and iPhone 6s Plus). I'm also not using battery saving mode or "do not disturb".
The only other troubleshooting option left to do that I can think of is complete factory reset of the phone and/or wiping the whole cache partition clean. Since my phone is otherwise working very smoothly and there are no other issues at the moment I'm not willing to go there just yet. From previous experiences with Nexus 6P I've learned that sometimes wiping the whole cache partition can cause similar problems with other apps. Sometimes simply reinstalling the misbehaving app and deleting its cache can help, but that doesn't seem to be the case this time.
Before doing the most recent factory reset on my LG V30+ I wasn't receiving any notifications from AP Mobile (which now works) and BuzzFeed News (working as well) so this issue isn't necessarily tied to the CNN app, but is probably a larger problem with the way notifications on Android work. I've also tested the push notifications with a tester app and it works just as it should.
I recently did a factory reset because I was experiencing serious notification delays on my device. Some apps like Twitter displayed notifications with a delay of 30 minutes to 2 hours. Now all the other apps that I've installed are showing their notifications right on time (at the same moment with my iPhone 6s Plus and Nexus 6P).
So I'm asking you are you aware of any compatibility problems with the CNN app at the moment or is there anything else I could do to make the app show notifications correctly. It's a great app so it's really a shame that the notifications aren't displayed at all on my newest Android device. Of course I can use the widget for CNN, but it's just not the same. I've also emailed CNN app support about this issue, but they haven't replied yet.
EDIT. Just checked the running services from developer settings. CNN is using constantly over 200 MB of RAM on my LG V30+ (where the push notifications for it aren't working at all) and on my Nexus 6P (where the app works just as it should) just about 20 MB. So there's a significant difference there. The settings for both apps are identical. On my Nexus 6P there's also an additional process for CNN running (com.android.chrome:sandboxed_process0) consuming 2 MB of RAM. The aforementioned process isn't running at all on my LG V30+.

EMUI 9.1 update - all notifications late or not appearing

I know this is a topic existing over internet, I've googled it extensively, but up to now I haven't found a solution.
I've got a non-pro Mate 10, the Chinese version AL-00, rebranded to International/Global ALP L-29.
Approximately two to three weeks ago I got an update from 9 to EMUI 9.1, and maybe a week later, another update as a security patch. The current version of the software is 9.1.0301 (C636E2R1P12).
After the system update, I normally updated all the apps that needed updating and cleaned the phone's cache from bootloader. And although now I once again receive notifications from Google play when an app needs updating (I stopped receiving those a while back for an unknown reason), I stopped receiving notifications for virtually any messaging service or social network, including Gmail app.
To be more specific, when using Gmail, Facebook Messenger, Viber, Whatsapp LinkedIn or some other, I do not get notified of new messages/posts/emails whatever, UNLESS I am using the phone at that particular moment, or unless I am using that specific app at that moment. That also applies for my bank's custom app which should normally notify me instantly as soon as some expense occurs on my card. A few times it even happened that I would receive and reply to a FB message, close the app and like an hour later would receive a notification that that specific person messaged me.
This only started happening after that last update.
I tried turning off battery optimization for each and every single of those apps, I tried switching App launch to manual. It literally makes no difference. Force stopping and cleaning the cache of the apps doesn't help as well.
While I could live with it when it comes to FB or LinkedIn, I cant have Gmail or FB Messenger holding my messages for so long without notifying me. I need them for my work and sometimes time is of the utmost essence.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated
EDIT: I just noticed that I'm having same problems with Google Keep app when using reminders
Please, guys, help!

Do you have root? Try freezing powergenie app, it should allow the notifications to come on time. The only issue is there might be a "slight" battery drain from more apps allowed to run in background. That was a dirty fix that worked even in emui 8/9 and peps seemed to have no issues even after the mod.
Since emui 9.1 introduces erofs file system, you'll have to either freeze the app in question everytime you reboot or create magisk module that during boot replaces contents of /system/app/HwPowerGenieEngine3 with empy folder - I'm not sure how removing odex files affects the thermals so I suggest just removing apk file and keeping everything else from the original directory intact if the temps and phone performance behave odly after doing this.
Feel free to give it a try, but I don't think it's actually worth doing it. The old forum post suggesting this mod actually overlooked the importance of power genie when it comes to temps + performance regulations across the board. Without it the temps will rise, phone won't supercharge and the performance will dip.
I'm actually playing around with this rn, trying to remove thermal limits on per app basis, if I come across anything I'll let ya know. Good luck
Have you made test on both mobile network and on WLAN? And what provider do you use with this phone? I see OP1 and VIP in your profile, probably outdated.

Yep I did, sometimes switching between WiFi and mobile network does activate the apps to check for new messages/mail, and sometimes it doesn't. I haven't noticed any clear pattern.
And it must be difference between XDA forums and the app. I swear I switched it when I bought the Mate. But I'm still on VIP/A1

No I haven't, but now that I checked, it was turned on all the time. However, knowing that sometimes this actually works, I toggled it off and back on several times and restarted the phone. I'll pay closer attention during the day to see if that helped and report back here. Thanks for the suggestion.
I too have this issue in my M10Pro specially in messenger. sometimes the chat icon doesn't appear even if i have an unread message.

Here's an update: Turning off and on the "Stay connected" option did not help at all, the real proof is that i received an email notification of cheeze.keyk replying to this thread, and I only saw it when I logged in on my PC. The phone did not notify me at all.
So the problem still persists, unfortunately. I am really hoping that I won't have to make a factory reset, although it is also uncertain if that would help at all.
totally bummed. my Mate 10 Pro screen just went crazy. It now has a bright green line all across the very bottom of the screen. And the whole screen now has a faint "screen door" effect going on. just enough to be irritating. I doubt I can live with it, but I loved this phone.

These two screenshots show show which apps I have frozen/disabled and which of the Google based apps have and don't have battery optimisation activated.
This essentially hasn't changed since I bought the phone over a year ago. Do you think I should do something with these apps or change some of their settings?
Send also the complete screenshot of Settings > Battery > App launch > Three dots > Manage manually.
Did you restrict background data maybe? Settings > Wireless & networks > Data usage > Network access > in upper drop down menu switch to Advanced network settings > Tick all apps on both installed and system apps list.
And the last question, do you use Smart Data Saver? Settings > Wireless & networks > Data usage > Smart Data Saver

Nope, data saver has been turned off and moreover, most of the apps seem to be ticked as an exception if it ever gets turned on
Hope that you put all checkmarks on Google Play Services and all other apps you have notifications problem.
Well as you can see, considering Google's apps, all is good.
I mean this one in Settings > Battery > App launch > Three dots > Manage manually, have a look on attachment.
So, my Email client, Google Play services, Moj Telekom, Viber and WhatsApp have set all three options: auto-launch, secondary launch and run in background. With this setup, I have no problems at all.

notification issues.

For anyone experiencing notification issues.
I was. None were coming through when they were sent. I changed push notification delay. I tried near everything
(Not coming through you have turned on notifications turn off power saving etc for the app)
If you have root and are able to freeze applications ( I have used titanium backup) to freeze the security app. All my notifications are coming though properly now.
I saw on a website someone that changed the security app so I thought why not freeze it. It works .
Still have access to permissions etc.
The only thing to remember is to keep them in memory. If you close the app you will have to reopen it manually.
I'm on ZUI 11
Not root case
If you don't have root, you can turn off battery optimization in settings for the apps you want, them put them on "autostart" in the security app and just minimize the apps
It's not a good solution, since you can't close fully the apps, but at least you will have notifications

Yes, it's not good, that's why I'm trying a custom rom now
But for those who are afraid to root/install a custom, it's what they have (notificon also helps, but have to pass through the same steps)

Just bought lenovo z5 pro 64gb. I have same problem with whatsapp and other user app notifications. Im on ZUI 11. 1.093 ST.
Im finally found a way to make whatsapp and other user app to make a sound when message coming.
Just install Missed Notifications Reminder from play store. After installation complete, just give permission access for this app to run. Next, you can set reminder for as low as 0.1 minutes ( fastest option and its fast enough ) and set reminder repetitions, i set for 2x repetition. Then finally you can select what application do you want to be reminded (any app on your phone).
Now, when new notification come, my phone will make sound
For those who still use the stock china zui, the notification bug still occurs?
yes i still have notification issues sometimes with whatsapp even though i went through all the settings in the security app and battery optimization.even installed missed notifications reminder which helped a little but not always.
im using the latest zui rom 11.5.247.things worked much better on 10.5

No notifications after Android 10 Update?

I updated my 7.2 to Android 10 yesterday.
Since then i had some problems with third party apps (like WhatsApp, Instagram, Snapchat) that aren't getting notifications.
For example:
I have WhatsApp open in the background all the time. But i don't get notifications when i haven't opened it for a moment (30min?).
I close Snapchat in the background once I'm done with it. I never get notifications. Not even after hours of waiting.
Instagram is a similar thing. I close it once I'm done with it. Sometimes i get notifications with a delay of like 30min, sometimes I don't get any notifications.
Things i tried to fix it:
- I restarted the Phone.
- I deactivated adaptive battery.
- I checked to be sure that battery optimization is turned off for those apps.
- I checked that all notifications are allowed.
- I checked that datasaver is turned off.
- I deleted the cache of these apps.
- I reinstalled these apps.
- I changed the Heartbeat Interval with the PNF App.
Nothing helped so far.
Is this a bug in Android 10 on the 7.2? Is there anyone experiencing the same problem?

It seems to be an ongoing issue with some phones. There is an online document where everyone can sign up who as similar issues to have Nokia fix the bug. The docuement can be found on Openpetition.
