Device Hostname Change - Huawei P20 Lite Questions & Answers

Hello guys, I was wondering if there is any solution to change my phone's hostname without rooting the device...
I have changed both the device name from About Phone section, and in WiFi settings on WiFi direct and my phone is keep advertised with the default settings name (router's page). Also I have searched in Developers options and there is no device hostname :/
I don't know if this is something new, or it has to be done with security policy but I rly need to change it...
Additionally I am not sure if there is any option to execute commands in Windows Powershell (adb) with opened the usb debugging and OEM unlock. I had removed pre-installed apks with this way, that's why I'm being referred to it.
I appreciate any help, thanks in advance!

[Q] adb over wifi ... security

So, I downloaded an adbWifi widget, and followed the instruction and - woohoo - it works.
I'm trying to understand how is this secure (if it is at all).
I click with widget and it tells me an IP and a port. I tell adb/Eclipse this ... and it connects. So how come someone out there port-sniffing can't do the same, and connect to my phone?

What wifi network are you using? If it's your own wifi network you control the security with a WEP key or hopefully something better. For example I have my own wireless router at home and I use WEP (to lazy to use something better).
By the way, which adb wifi program did you download and where are the instructions? I would like to try it.

Nothing stops anyone on the same network from connecting to your wireless adb session if they know the port.
The best you could do is use a non standard port instead of the default 5555
I know the toggle I use doesn't give the option to choose a port but it is possible and asking the dev as a feature request might get the option. I have never bothered because I only use it on my secure network and don't know anyone irl that would know what adb is.
To start wireless adb with any port from a shell run "adb tcpip <port>" to restart the daemon on the specified port.
I personally think we should be able to password protect adb for if our phones are stolen.
Hoi,
can someone please tell me (us), HOW the Eclipse config must be modified ?
Right now i type in a dos-box the command adb connect <MyTCP>:5555.
When i click RUN in Eclipse it finds the device and all works fine.
I want to use this method permanently, so i am interested in the Config-Solution because my device didn't suck so much energy from the batterie as in WiFi-Mode (awesome effect, isn't it ?)

If you've never given permissions to a particular computer, it can't connect.

[Q] Intex CloudFX : Adb not working

Hi Everyone,
I have recently bought the newly launched consumer grade FirefoxOS device Intex CloudFX.
in order to fiddle order with it i tried enabling USB debugging and messing with Adb shell but to my surprise i am not able to see the device is adb devices. I use Adb regularly for android device on both Mac and Linux and they work seemlessly but Firefox Devices dosn't detect it at all. I can see in dmesg that the device is detected. I did manually added entries for the device in udev rules for linux box also.
can anyone suggest what i might be missing.
Note : I have disabled screenlock and i have also enabled ADB plus Devtools in developer section.

You would need to jailbreak the device first, I don't think there's any 'official' solution for it yet. Could try ZTE Open jailbreak, but I doubt it will work and you may brick your device.

Oh i thought atleast ADB would be available for consumer grade devices also.
Let me give rooting exploits a try.

Any luck?
I couldn't get it work either.
Even ticking the 'Developer Menu' doesn't enable a Developer Menu under Settings.
Do we know how to put any apps on it? (other than the MarketPlace?)
For those who want to give it a try:
SETTINGS -> DEVICE INFORMATION -> More Information -> Developer
I finally got it to work:
I have detailed the procedure here: http://nikunjlahoti.com/2014/09/14/intex-cloud-fx-turn-debugging-on/
I am not sure what's the guideline here. Shall I paste the entire content instead?
After writing this post I found another Mozilla help thread: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1018724 which also says the same thing.
Cheers!

adb Unauthorized except in 5.1.1

I currently have 5.1.1 installed on my honor 5x and am able to use adb automatically without accepting an RSA prompt (have installed twrp, rooted, etc.) but when I dload a MM stock rom and use usb debugging it is unauthorized and I get no RSA prompt I've even gone as far as to delete /data/misc/adb from my device and adbkey.pub from my desktop but there is still no pop up authorization in MM
Developer options -> Revoke authorisation (something like that), replug. If that doesn't help, change connection mode to file transfer and try again.

I actually don't have a "revoke authorization" button below usb debugging, odd I know but I've tried all those options to no avail

Tried toggling the debugging switch? I had issues like these on one of my previous devices, but usually these were fixed with a simple port change or debug off/on switch, if revoke->replug didn't work.
Have you checked drivers, or if dmesg says something about the device, if you're on Linux? Sometimes even running multiple adb instances (like one from terminal and one from Android Studio, for example) can cause this behviour.

Will pay for a way to get into my tablet

I have a jp5s tablet running android 4.2.2. It is a prison issued tablet. USB debugging is not enabled, and you can't enable devlopers options. Bluetooth works but app installation is blocked for security purposes. And the ability to allow unknown sources is disabled. Recovery mode only has reboot now. There is no fastboot so adb on windows will not connect. My only idea is maybe a picture or video file that runs a script to allow USB debugging, or installs an apk(a file manager). Also I'll pay for one that will set my devices year back to 2011 or so. Please any help or advice. Maybe a windows program that will force connect adb somehow.
Yeah you can go to settings but its very limited, pressing build number only brings up a list of installed apps.
Nothing google at all its a prison tablet that's the issue I want to install apps

Android 12 Developer options adb "Wireless debugging" option keeps turning off

The Android 12's new features for 'Developer options' 'Wireless debugging' is fantastic because you never need a USB cable anymore to connect between the PC and the Android phone using adb (e.g., when using Vysor or scrcpy).
However, I am CONSTANTLY having to turn the Developer options for "Wireless debugging" back on because that Developer option for Wireless debugging goes from ON to OFF (and stays off) every time the Wi-Fi is turned off on the phone.
Is there any way to keep the Developer option for Wireless debugging on?

Unfortunately, the question remains unanswered.
Here's some additional background for those who haven't kept up with the wonderful new changes in Android 11 and above...
[adb, scrcpy, vysor] What ports does Android 12 randomly set when Wi-Fi connecting via Wireless debugging adb "pair" or "connect" commands?
Bear in mind that Android 10 and below allowed wireless adb connections AFTER a USB connection was first established (adb tcpip 5555 && adb connect [IP]:5555), but that changed (for the better) in Android 11 and above with the new new Developer options Wireless debugging random port assignments (adb connect [IP]:[PORT] or adb pair [IP]:[PORT] [PIN]) such that the adb wireless connection never needs USB cable ever again.
Given Android 11 allows Developer options Wireless debugging via a random port, and Android 12 new Developer options Wireless debugging allows that to be accessed even easier with a new Developer options Wireless debugging tile, the only thing missing is a way to KEEP that random port from constantly changing on us.
One way to do that is to keep the Developer options Wireless debugging option turned on, hence the question asked in this thread of...
Is there any way to keep the Developer option for Wireless debugging on (even if the Wi-Fi automatically turns itself off)?

Hi Master ! I want help ! How can I turn on "wireless debugging" by root command without touch screen or usb debug?
I just want my phone turn on the "wireless debugging" after each reboot. I've wrote some cmd in a script file and let it run after system start:
svc wifi disable
sleep 5 # have a wait to ensure wifi is off
svc wifi enable
sleep 5 # have a wait to ensure it connected to PC hotspot
su
setprop service.adb.tcp.port 7777
# setprop persist.adb.tcp.port 7777 # have to try
stop adbd
start adbd
exit
I've tried many times and I'm tried. I found that there is no properties like "wifi_adb" or "debug.adb_wifi" can let me turn on wirelesss debugging switch after reboot. I have to touch it on screen so that I can connect adb over wifi.
is there any method to let the phone auto enable "wireless debugging"(even always enable) after reboot? I have ROOT !!! I SHOULD COUDL DO IT ![cry][cry] [cry] [cry] [cry]

I just have tried commands above and none of them could work. it just changes wifi adb port to what you want but no cmd can enable "wireless debugging" switch under developer options. why there is no properties like "debug.hwui.force_dark" that can be auto enable by "setprop".
even I'm rooted...
