Best rugged case for Tab S4 - Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 Accessories

I'm a new Tab S4 owner, and don't have a case yet. I had the screen shatter on my first tablet, a Galaxy Note 10.1 2014, and I've been crazy scared of drops ever since. It had one of the leather / cardboard book sleeve covers. Bumped off a bed stand onto a hardwood floor, and bang! On phones and smaller tablets I've gone to Roocase and on my Galaxy Tab S2, I have a Beetle Defense cover.
It seems like book sleeve covers are much more common than heavy duty cases for the Tab S4. Especially in tandem with keyboards. Are there any that are rugged enough to protect a dropped tablet? If not, is there any concensus on the best rugged case for the S4?
Thanks,
Joe

You are probably better off searching Amazon for " shockproof rugged samsung tab s4 case " and reading the reviews. There are a number of them out there. I personally don't use one myself. At home my Tab S4 sits in the pogo charging dock in my home office on my desk. And when I'm on the road I use this case https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GXDCGLQ/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 If you look closely that case has a strap that goes around the back to hold the case shut and pretty well protected. Though I have yet to drop it to test it out. FWIW I had the similar case by the same company for my Tab S3 and it is still running like a champ 1.5 years later.
But when I need to take notes by hand I take the tablet out of the case as it is easier for me to write on it with no case. I don't know how much interference a rugged case would have trying to write on it in terms of ergonomics. So I'd be sure to check reviews on how hard people found to write on the tablet while in the case.

Thanks, aspexil, I'm seeing a lot more cases on Amazon with "shockproof rugged" than I did looking for just case. Search terms are everything. Thanks also for comments on folio case - it is one I was looking at yesterday.
Take care,

Not cheap but Otterbox does make a Defender for it.

Thanks for the link. I was surprised not to find the Otterbox on Amazon. Glad to see they make one for the Tab S4.

[Q] Best Case?

I just got a Tab for Christmas and was wondering, what is/are your favorite case(s)? I'm looking for a case with a built in stand and good protection. Material and cost really don't matter.
I have had the official samsung galaxy tab 10.1 case for several months now and it's holding up nicely. Contrary to 3rd party cases, it fits the tab perfectly, not adding excessive bulk to the tab. You can stand the tab up or just have it rest at an incline. When completly opened it gives much better grip to hold the tab with one hand. You'll find several reviews on youtube if you search for "galaxy tab 10.1 case review"

Are you referring to the Official Book Cover? The only problem is the cost, is the case worth the ~$60 price?

Yeah... That's the one I was referring to. It is in fact a little steep at ~60$, but I find it's worth it because of the fit. The leather ones wrap around the corners and cover the sides, which actually may protect the tab better, but I just don't like the extra bulk... The galaxy tab 10.1 is a very thin tablet, I want a case that keeps it that way as much as possible.
On youtube one of the reviews compares the official case to the Belkin one, which gives a good idea of diffences in fit.

I really like it.
Clip case by Pyro Skins. I sent an email to him applauding the case and mentioned what MAY have been a problem with the case, and 30 minutes later I had a tracking # for a second case, no questions asked. You cant beat that kind of customer service.
Indeed the Official Samsung Book Case takes this one. Very functional and keeps the thin profile of the device. Only gripe is when taking pictures, since you'd have to hole up the front cover. But who takes a lot of snaps from their tabs anyway?
I do. Not a problem with Pyro Skins. Also thin and cheaper to buy.
I chose 360 case because of
A. Price
B. Don't have to leave case open in order to charge the tab. I want my tablet covered when left out on desk/table when charging. The official book case has to be left open to charge (I believe).

I agree
this case is very thin and I love it
After looking at all the suggestions, I purchased the VIPERTEK Premium Slim Leather Case Folio with Built-In Standbest from Amazon for $25. I really wanted a clip case and I chose the ViperTek over the PyroSkins clip case for the ability to charge while the case is closed. Thank you all for your input.
I am using the Belkin - Ultrathin Folio & very happy with the case so far.
Drop Tech Series
I got the official samsung case and it's pretty awsome. A little expensive tough. A friend of mine was looking for a case for his tab and he found a similar case at dealextream. It does look a lot like mine, at least from the pictures.

Ive got one of these coming for mine.
I wanted an EVA case yet not too huge/heavy. The strap/handle seems flexible so it can securely "sling" for a bike/skate trip, but also carry like a briefcase.
I also like the added room (sunglasses, wallet, possibly charger).
I'll give a review once I get it and have some hands on experience.

I've seen the CaseCrown up close and personal. My buddy bought it for his Galaxy Tab 10.1. Nice case, well designed and constructed. For the price I think you'll be happy.
I've got the Targus case and love it. It's got 2 compartments so it'll fit both the tablet and dock separately or together.
Timbuk2 Quickie Carry Bag- real nice!
Picked up one of these (Size Small) from amazon and it is real nice as a small tablet bag for the Prime, with full shoulder strap. A little pricey, but Highly recommended. Great build construction with lifetime warranty to protect the prime, and 2 side pockets for the charger and phone. It's smaller than it looks in the picture- just a little larger than the tablet itself
Insulated very well inside with well constructed bubble membrane foam, to protect the tablet from vibrations.
My Prime has a leather case and it fits great inside this bag !!! A nice compromise between a sleeve and a full size laptop bag, with still a good amount of room for charger and cable! I think the Prime with the Keyboard dock should fit nicely too!

sleeve/pouch case

I'm looking for a good sleeve/pouch style case for my tab 7.7.
I want it to protect it from scratches and maybe for "short" drops.

Yes, I received it on Saturday and it was a quick delivery as well. It's originally designed for the BlackBerry playbook and slightly smaller in dimensions in comparison to the 7.7
Some photos soon perhaps...
Another option is PDAIR, they also have pouch type case :

IIRC, their case got some positive reviews before
Here are some photos attached to this post
I ordered a Noreve case for my 7.7, to hold me off while I wait, I picked up a Blackberry Playbook Zip sleeve. It was on clearance at a local store, got it for $10 vs the $40 it originally sold for!
It fits as if it was custom made for the 7.7, it's an absolutely perfect fit and nice quality! Getting this for $10 almost makes me feel like I wasted $100 over at Noreve, lol.
http://crackberry.com/blackberry-playbook-zip-sleeve
Ive already got this one and it works pretty good. I originally got it for a HTC EVO View, but it works good for my 7.7. I also just ordered this, only $7.45 shipped and the embroidered "Galaxy Tab" logo looks great. It also has a pull tab that lifts the tablet out of the sleeve. I know it will fit with no case on, but Im hoping it will fit with a snap on case I ordered from Brando. Probably wont, but Ill still use it.
PSA: The black Tab sleeve (ET-GTABBSSGSTA) doesn't fit the 7.7. Not wide enough.

I can confirm this. I wrote a short Amazon review so other 7.7 owners will know.
I went for the BlackBerry PlayBook case too - Only £7.50 delivered from Amazon UK.
It is a perfect fit and is made of memory foam. Quality.
Ahhg - it's only £4.41 now! Still - it was good value at £7.50.
Black, Grey, Orange or Sky Blue
Not sure if it's the exact one, there's no label on it and I've thrown away the packaging. But, using a Belkin Kindle case works well for me.

Is the Belkin case you're talking about actually for the Kindle Keyboard (3rd generation)? I have a sleeve for my kindle 3 and while I can slide the tab in, the top sticks out a bit. I should see if I can find my old kindle 2 case.

Well to be honest I know nothing about kindles so no idea which is which. The cover I have is pretty much the exact size of the Tab, it fits perfectly.

Thanks for this post. EVO view case fits perfectly
Not to resurrect a somewhat dead n' buried thread, but I'm on the hunt for a sleeve to protect my 7.7 while keeping the OEM bookstyle case always equipped on it.
I'm utterly disappointed at the lack of sleeves specifically designed for this tablet considering its made by Samsung, a top tier mobile computing company. Kind of reminds me why my next PC build will be Intel and not AMD, less third party vendor support - simply better chipsets and mobos. Maybe we should all get Ipads just to get some proper accessory support?
I'm kidding, but suggestions are appreciated. I even checked out amazon uk and can't find anything decent. I'm not too crazy about using a playbook branded sleeve either.

Just an FYI, the Blackberry Playbook Leather Sleeve, also works well with the Tab 7.7.

SZLF Bumper Case

Has anyone tried one of these SZLF Aluminum Bumper cases for the AT&T Note? It appears this is only for the International version but I am not aware of any differences in the size of the phone so it may work for both. All of the listings I have found for this on eBay only mention i9220 and N7000 though.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Luxury-...374880?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item4163fca0e0
Also, if you have tried this, does the case cover the edges of the screen (further protecting a screen protector)? I like the look of this one as well as the Anymode Bumper but the Anymode looks really big.

Sweet armor is nice and all, but the fake is 1/4 the price, so it would win my vote. The review showed that the original is better made, but I just don't think it's that much better depending on how biased the review is.
I got the sweet armor (fake version, same as szlf) and ended up not using it. Here's why:
1. Makes phone more slippery and heavy
2. Scratches screen protector when taking on and off (and you must take it off to access battery)
3. Not very ergonomic

They look cool, some people like them, I just don't see the point since I agree with primarily your first point. The other day I was laying in my recliner with my 2 year old beside me and we were looking at a zoo app of animals while holding my phone above us. It slipped and I cracked my poor baby girl in the face with my phone. Since then I keep the silicon jacket on it untill my Seidio comes in the mail.
Can't stand the "SZLF" logo all over it...
Stay away from Aluminum Bumpers
My buddy and I both have Notes. We were just troubleshooting (Like 15 muintes ago) network connectivity problems he has been experiencing here at work the last few days. The connection would drop or stay at 4G, and rarely hit LTE. What we discovered was it was the aluminum bumper he installed around the same time the problems started. It drastically reduce his signal quality. Stay far away from these.
Thanks everyone for all the feedback. Based on the issues with potentially scratching the screen protector putting this bumper on and the poor signal strength I am just going to keep looking for something else. I like the BoxWave TPU case I have now but it does not cover the edge of the screen/SP so every once in awhile I notice it pushing up against the SP causing the SP to move slightly.

I am not sure, but it also looks like the battery cover for the N7000 is different than the one on the I717. Noticed on this SZLF case, the bottom back portion would block the I717 cover.

Flip/folio/wallet case that's easily removeable?

Got an N6 on the way, looking for a flip case that can easily be removed. I'd like to be able to clip the phone into the case when I'm out and about, but remove it when I'm at home or at the office. Anyone have a case like this? I've done some looking but it seems like most of them are TPU cases attached to the flip cover. For my other phone I found one that clipped around the edges in only a couple of spots. I'm hoping to find something similar or at least one that can stand up to the abuse of many in/out cycles.
Might give this one a shot. It's a bit bigger than some other cases but it feels pretty nice. I will warn you though, while not a huge issue, the edges on the flip cover started to look a little frayed after a few weeks. Probably just wear and tear though.

Not particularly, no. I will say they are not the best though. Theres a little bit of play to them. If you can get it cheaper than the 30-some odd dollars they charge, I'd go for it. Personally I usually carry my nexus 6 w/o a case just due to how nice it feels, although if you find a thinner, rubberized flip case let me know.
All in all, I'd give the casemate a shot. Does the job just fine.
I know you might have your reasons for wanting a flip case, but because I wanted to do the same as you (protection when out and about but naked when at home) I went with a really nice larger pouch case instead.

Thanks for the help guys. I considered the case-mate, especially since it was originally sold on Google play so it's close to "official"/oem but the multitude of bad reviews scared me off. I like the pouch idea too but I like to have some protection when I'm using the phone on the go since that's the most likely time I'd drop it. I only remove the case when I'm home or at the office since I'll be at the table/couch/desk there's less risk of dropping it and I prefer using the phone naked as much as possible.
I ended up finding one of these in eBay for 25 and it seems to work well, although it isn't as easy to remove as the flip case for my last phone. I haven't used the card slots yet as I'm a little concerned they could scratch the screen and I don't want to use a screen protector.

I've been using this inexpensive but very form-fitting case since I bought the n6. Easy to slip it out of the case, and I've used nillkin book-type cases for multiple phones. They usually last the life the phone (for me, that's about 2 years)

This is the one I use, and definitely have enjoyed it. I haven't had any problem with cards scratching the screen yet.
If you're still looking for a wallet themed case, you can try out this one by VENA, I have had it for 2 months and it's been great.
http://www.amazon.com/Google-Nexus-...8&qid=1449112949&sr=1-4&keywords=vena+nexus+6
I like my phones naked or as close as it comes (ultra thin transparent tpu case), but I also like to have something to put it in when out and about. My Nexus 5 was kept in a Mofi Kangaroo pouch case which was great. Unfortunately, they seemed to have stopped making them and only ever made them just about big enough for the N5. There are similar alternatives but none seem as good as the Mofi.
So, finding a removable pouch type case big enough for this beast is a challenge! I ordered a hand made fabric one from etsy which is well made, but at the size of the device, looks more like a small sleeping bag than the home of a sleek Nexus device .
So I took a bit of a gamble and ordered something not designed for the Nexus 6. Its primary advertising is for the Iphone 6+, but also states is suitable for Note 4. Looking at both devices dimensions, I concluded it was almost big enough. The Nexus being little longer, thicker and wider than both devices, but not much.
It seems to have paid off. Its a very nice luxurious pouch wallet case in genuine brown leather from what I gather is a brand owned by tuffluv. You can't tell from the site, but the phone pouch part on the side, top and bottom is elasticated so happily accommodates the Nexus's superior girth!
I can even squeeze it in with tpu case - just, but its a bit tough to pull out. Might have to seek an ultra thin tpu case - any recommendations? Without the TPU, its next to perfect! Fully loaded with cards in the card slots makes it slightly tighter to close fully, but still very acceptable in my book.
Currently its in the sale on Tuffluv site where its claimed to be a £50 case (and going by the other similar cases going for in excess of £50, I believe them!). With the sale price and discount it came to £17.99 delivered.
Just thought I'd share in case anyone else was looking for something similar but hadn't found anything labelled as suitable for the Nexus 6.
Can't paste a link but go to tuff-luv dot coms site and search for "Alston Craig Vintage Genuine Leather Wallet Case Cover Pouch for Apple iPhone 6 Plus / 6s Plus / Samsung Galaxy Note 4 - Brown"
Alston Craig have their own site, but there is a discount code for a couple of quid off on tuff-luv
Hope this helps someone.
Oh, ps, there is a small slip of paper in the packaging that states you should have a screen protector fitted to protect the screen before use. Its material lined; not the soft microfibre type, but not something I would be concerned about.
pps. Only issue I've found is the elastic straps are centred, so covers headphone and usb port. Shame, not a deal breaker for me.
