There's a small strand of something sticking out of my new Poco F1's secondary camera - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

That strand of fiber is actually inside the glass covering the camera and somehow got stuck in there during the manufacturing process.
I'm from India and this was purchased two days ago from Flipkart. And I was wondering if this will be a cause of concern in the future. It also has a very slight screen-bleed at the bottom chin noticeable on grey background. But I don't mind that much since almost all the Pocos come with the screen bleeding issue.
Good people of XDA, should I opt for a replacement? I got this for Rs. 12,600 ($180) with a 6-8 months Buyback Guarantee @ Rs. 10K ($143), after exchanging my old Redmi Note 3 along with an SBI Card 10% off and an SBI-Rewards Flipkart coupon of Rs. 1000. So, pretty much a sweet deal.
I'm sorry I couldn't post a proper link to the image (since I'm a new member), so I've added spaces to the url of the pic showing what I've described above.

Prob wont cause issue but a new item shouldnt have this issue so I would change it if you can otherwise might reduce value later when you sell it

[Q] Wooter - Dead Pixel

Hello XDA,
I just received my Gtab this morning (a day early!). I quick plug it in and turn it on to see a dead/stuck pixel on the top right of the screen on the status bar.
No, no, I am not a tech-newb. I have rubbed several stuck pixels out of panels before. I have bought 3 refurb hp2465s and two of the three needed a little love. With help from some stuck pixel videos and some massaging they look pretty sharp. This leads me to the point. From my experience i have been able to identify the difference between stuck and dead pixels. This time around I cannot truly tell:
-Said pixel looks just fine in a WHITE background, it blends in
-In black it looks RED
-In most other backgrounds it looks GREY
Any suggestion or hints would be appreciated.
Btw, I haven't checked with woot yet, but I am pretty sure there will be nothing they can do. I will contact Viewsonic tomorrow and see what they suggest or if they will replace it.
*Update - 04/02/2011*
As of mid-day my new tablet was delivered via FedEx just under 3 days of contact by Woot. I never had to formally request an RMA, 100% painless. I charged the new tablet while at work, upon returning there were no dead pixels to be found. I am content.
To those interested, I was somewhat disappointed with the build quality of the Gtablet and almost had Woot give me a full refund. If I wasn't going to Scotland in May and needed a tablet/netbook for the flight, I probably would have took the refund route. To my delight and surprise, I found the replacement Tablet to be beyond superior to the original with the dead pixel:
1) The side bezel lines up better with each half not causing an irritating excursion.
2) The webcam lens is centered in the hole - not shifted to the side.
3) This one could be my imagination, but I am pretty sure the viewing angles on the tablet's screen are significantly better. If the original was a refurb sold as a new tablet, then this panel is of a high quality. (Otherwise the panel was just install right-side-up as some threads have hinted)
I am now 100% satisfied with this purchase. Now to wait for my travel sized mechanical keyboard to arrive, and a final decsion on my first ROM to try. Any suggestions?!
Apple has a dead pixel policy - on the iPad, it's three. Not sure what Woot! / Viewsonic will do, but you might want to call Viewsonic. They might want you to do an RMA.
arent ipads pixels like a quarter of the size? i know ipod touch pixels are small as hell and would be nearly impossible to see if just one was out without putting the thing to your face
The iPad2's resolution is 1024x768. The pixel density is very close to the gtab's.
wow, isnt that almost the same as the iphone 4's res? i thought they were unusually high res
resolution and pixels are two different things. if they were the same a 42"1080P tv would look horrible compared to a 24" 1080P tv
Same thing happened to me!!!
Maybe Woot got a deal on these tablets with a dead pixel? I'm trying to send it back ASAP.

Mine didn't look repackaged at all. Everything was in top notch condition packaging wise. There were no fingerprints or scuffs/marks that would indicate anyone would have previously RMA'd this device. If viewsonic packaged these in a seaperate bundle to sell to an online retailer such as woot, I would consider Viewsonic pretty shady.
As I said, I will contact viewsonic and see if they will make right by this. I have been nose deep in forum posts since my woot purchase and I haven't seen much in the way of dead/stuck pixels on a Gtab.. yet.
As a last ditch effort I might need a tutorial for disassembly. Maybe I can massage this stuck pixel.

woot listed them as "New", not "Refurbished" (obwoot: rox0rz!)
FWIW, I had a problem with an Archos 504 MP I bought from WOOT in 2007. The item was brand new and had a defective display. I e-mailed Woot's customer service and they sent me a new one before I even mailed back the original to them. Their customer service is fantastic, or at least was in that case.
Definitely contact Woot first before going to Viewsonic.

Thanks for the advice. Looking forward to emailing Woot the second I sit down for "lunch".
i would google it some...
i bet there is an easy fix... i thought i saw something on lifehacker about rubbing it out ....
Wooter here. Just got home and to my dismay a nice dead pixel on the top left. Sucks.
Just emailed Woot. Hopefully the replacement comes soon.
I hope it's not symptomatic to the wooter tablets. It may be that Woot got a deal on them because they are second grade.
same thing here, trying to fix it first.
Same here. Two STUCK pixels, bottom left and near center
Dead Pixel
Sadly, I also have a dead pixel on the bottom left of my tab. I did the over the air update but it made no difference. I am reluctant to do any modding in case I have to send it back. I just have issue with something "new" having a dead pixel. It distracts/bothers me. Thanks to all for sharing their experiences so far. I wonder how many others will have this issue.
---EDIT---
Well, Woot is hands down the least painful RMA I have ever done next to newegg. I am super impressed. They have a customer for life.
*Update
Good news! Contacted Woot and posted in their forum for the Gtab, and I got a response in less than a day. Woot is going to replace the tablet with one dead pixel and cover a shipping label. I've had plenty of online purchase that lead to an RMA.. this was hands down the least painful. I am impressed by Woot.
I will post and update when fully resovled. At that point I can finally root and install a ROM.
On a side note, viewsonic was a pain. I don't plan on buying anything viewsonic in the future.
I bought my gtab from woot as well ..
Ok .. After the first day of playing with my new tablet .. I noticed a dead pixel as well .. Mine is about a 3/4 way up all the way to the right on the very end .. I was thinking, is it worth my time to go through all the bull to send it back and wait for another one.. or just put a nice white background image as my background so I don't see it .. I think I'm just going to deal with it because its not "that" noticeable, the fact that I know its there is the only thing that makes me crazy! .. I can always sell it anyway and nobody would notice unless I pointed it out. Another reason why I don't want to get a new one is because I spent hours rooting and installing a new rom and it would be a waste of my time to do it all over again .. haha
Yep, same thing here. I got on the Woot deal as well. Have a dead pixel about 1/2" down in the middle, horrible place for it.
Just emailed Woot, hopefully they will do the same for me.
***Update***
I have to give it to Woot. Within an hour of my email to them they have sent an RMA and will ship me a replacement before I send mine back.
Also in reading their forums on this deal it seems that some people did in fact get what seems to be either returned or shelf models from Staples. Woot seems to be working hard to get this corrected.

New screen hangs

Hi, I'm Martin from Germany
That's the story:
I've (already ) broke the display of my HTC Mozart after 2 months of usage ordered a new one at mobile-phone-lcd.com. The replacement itself took me about two hours, where the longest part was the removal of the "old" glue which is used to keep the screen in its housing.
But now the reaction of the screen is very bad It's 1. the typical "lockscreen problem" but 2. the menu often scrolls "up" when i push the screen down. And I'm unable to write messages because I can't touch some letters.
But I have to note that starting from the point when i broke my old screen, the phone "already" had the "lockscreen problem" and a few letters were not touchable.
With the new screen the "touchability" is worse than with the broken screen.
I already flashed it with RUU_Mozart_HTC_Europe_1.30.401.01_5.54.09.21_22.33b.50 but nothing changed. I just wrote an email to the seller but somehow I can't believe that's a harware-related problem. I already tried to run it with different positions of the cable in the plug... no success
Maybe anyone of you has similar experiences or any ideas how to fix it. Tomorrow I'll try to flash it with another ROM.
Cheers
Martin
It really seems an issue with the new screen, a bad device or both...
I don't think you can repair it playing with the ROM...
Thanks.
Let's see what the supplier says...
first of all you info was not clear, when you mention screen, is' it the LCD or the digitizer, it's two different pieces, it seems like the problem is the digitizer.
You're right, the problem is the digitizer.
The support-team already answered and needs a more detailed description. (I wrote a very short email) The guy answered that I should try a touch screen calibration! I've already searched for a way to calibrate the touch screen/digitizer, but I wasn't successful. Does anyone of you knows how to?
In parallel I'm bidding on a HTC Mozart on eBay which is water damaged so I can try another digitizer. (hope the digitizer is still working...)
how much is it going to cost, i've seen oem digitizer in china go for around USD 30.
also no touch calibration will do any good, the digitizer has some dead section, from your description.
Mine was 38 USD without shipping costs
Currently the damaged WP7 is @ 30 USD....
You're right. Where have you seen the digitizer? Could you provide the link to me?

Replacement LCD Quality vs. Your Original Screen

For those of you who've replaced your screens either DIY or via LG warranty replacement...please post how your screen quality and viewing angles compare to the original LCD.
I'll start...
1. On my Current G2, I had a perfect screen. Perfect viewing angles and excellent image quality with no defects
2. Ebay Replacement screen #1 had dead pixels and Mira lines.
3. Ebay replacement screen # 2 had horrible color. Almost black and white
4. Amazon replacement screen has great color & image quality but lesser degree of viewing angles.
It's hard to explain but easy to compare to other G2s and phones when you compare side by side.
After all these screen swaps in the last couple months I've decided to keep this screen and use the phone as is.
How does your replacement screen compare to the original one?
I got LG performed a "total refurbished" when I dropped and shattered my screen.
It came back and looked like new, no difference to the original.
After a shattered screen i got it replaced.two months waoting time.now have jdi panel but brightness is very low and have lots of screen bleed around the edges.the repairman did not do a good job but the panel itself is of lower quality.color and contrast ok but luminosity is about 70%of the original...not happy but no money for yet another panel...
Conclusion:dont drop the phone...
After having touch screen issues on my phone (no-touch zone, ghost touches), I bought a replacement screen for my D800 off eBay.
Got it replaced and so far, the quality (colours, brightness, touch accuracy) is very good. I'd say the screen is slightly more yellow than my original screen but it's by no means an issue.
The screen I got for my "new" Z3, is full of problems. It has press marks(areas on the screen which appear brighter/whiter) and the screen "flickers" on high brightness. My friend can't see it well, but I can very clearly see the screen going bright->dark->bright->dark slightly and very quickly.
Dropped mine and got it replaced at a cheap place in Bangkok.
Colours are the same, viewing angles are not as good, but
those doesn't matter to me.
Been 2 months dropped phone again, screen shattert again...
Biggest supprise: Touch is still working perfectly! Seems like the cheap replacement screen doesn't have the NoGap technology like the original ones haha. Seems like win win to me!

Thanks for the responses guys and sorry to hear about your screens.
Made a new poll. Please participate.
I'm trying to make a case that there are different versions of LCD panels made by different manufacturers.
They don't advertise which is which but we're starting to notice now that we're having out screens replaced.
I replaced my LG D800 screen with one from Amazon and the colors are slightly darker but other than that no big deal. I didn't do a good job with the replacement so there is definite light bleed on the edges and after four months of using it im getting ghost touches if I press on the lower portion of the screen. Don't think it's quite worth the $80 replacement to try again and get it right, just something I'll deal with until a new phone comes out and I can get it replaced all together.
Similar experience to laboratik except the repair was done at LG so the workmanship is good. But it is jdi panel and darker than the original.
Thank you guys for the responses. This thread should be helpful to others in our same situation.
The sad fact is that the market is flooded with aftermarket screens made by who knows.
Just compared my screen with the S6 Edge and have to say I'm very impressed with the image and color on this replacement screen however that's where the buck stops.
The reduced viewing angles are tolerable at best. I'd hate to remove this replacement screen send it back all over again...roll, dice pray I get a perfect match but unless I'm removing it from a G2 myself I'm starting to believe it's not likely it'll happen.
Check out this review on Amazon re: the screen I have.
This guy nails my current situation

I got a few of them from eBay, I can link you the buyer if you want, I've sold them and they are close to OEM, they only have one MAJOR flaw, they are thicker. While you'd think this wouldn't be an issue, they are thick enough to not be able to slip into most cases, so it's annoying.
http://www.ebay.com/usr/wholesaleblimited?_trksid=p2053788.m1543.l2754
That's the ebay seller I use for replacement parts.
So far the screens have been OEM quality( G2, GPro, AHD) I've bought a few from there, and they all have great quality, except for the thickness, they all seem to be thicker, this is probably due to it not being real gorilla glass, and just a knock off lol.
it looks like my replacement screen for LG service center has slightly lower sunlight legibility than original,
I dont know which panel is this, but brightness is reduced

After removing the Amazon screen and reinstalling the original one, I notice the Amazon one has slightly higher ppi/contrast with a smoother looking picture....WTH
Now if I can have that with the original screen's viewing angles I'd be golden....
Oh well....time to pack it back and return it back...will report back shortly

That one almost certainly looks like it will be a low quality replacement you will be unhappy with.
My personal opinion, if you want a full frame screen replacement....at least get one with the LG logo.
Saw one on ebay for 59.00 last night. The seller claimed to test them before they ship.

Being a Vodafone user, I have some insurance which comes with it. Raised a claim from them. Need to submit few docs. Let's see how it goes.. I just enquired with mi service center here and they charge a ridiculous rs 6133 for the screen replacement. Anyone have newer updates for a good screen.
Original screen for POCO F1
I thought the back cover could probably the first part gets damage, cause it's plastic. Sorry to hear that. You know you can check witrigs for the part, reliable, and they always sell original parts. Original is the most important thing for cellphone repair for me. Hope this can help you。
Hi,
@Kaadyep
Mine was broken as well. I ordered one on Aliexpress. Seller is Trafalgar (can't post link, rating is 4.9 at the moment, at 100 orders) and cost around 30-38 USD inclusive tools.
Fits perfect and work without issues and no bleeding. The included tools are ok, just the Torx is not fitting. Open the phone is easy but the display is glued. Since the display was broken anyway, i just used one of the included plastic clips and push it under the edge of the broken display, go one round and then you can remove it. The phone still need to be fully disassembled since the flat cable is under the motherboard and battery pack. After that I used very thin double sided tape on the edges to glue the new one in. That is 2 weeks ago and no issues.
Hope that helps.

The Manufacturer in the System Details shows "dsi_tianma_fhd_nt36672a_video_display". Not sure why it's named fhd cause the resolution is the right one (1080 x 2246 pixels).

Chris
WTF, the quotations were a ripoff (to me atleast) but you can save like half and install it on your own if you buy online from China.

It could be that the FHD only denotes the 1080 part then the other would be dependend on the aspect ratio. You could say that a panel is FHD but the ratio might be 21:9 (ultrawide), 18:9 (for smartphones), 16:9 (regular), etc.
poco F1 screen reppacement is not so hard
any one can easily replace poco F1 screen or you should visit nearby to get fix , it will cost you 2300 to local market ( good quality screen)

Phone Repair - is risky ?

I decided to change camera as it has lost its focus. But some of my local shop say that this Phone can be opened thorugh front ie display. There say 80% changes that display+touch might break. I don't have idea about.
Is it true ? Or my local shop are noobs.

How? I'm afraid that I breake the screen.
The screen, from info gathered on XDA & around the internet, is notoriously fragile. My X829 needs a new battery, so I bought a battery and a screen replacement kit just in case. I'll let you know how it goes, but I won't be able to do it until later this week, possibly not until the weekend.
Finally got the battery replaced. I DID break the screen though, even after applying heat and taking 20 minutes to slowly pry it off. So I'm glad I bought a replacement screen when I bought the battery. The new screen seems the same but (except the bezels are a different color ?). I'm definitely not a professional phone repair person, and in the past I have replaced already broken screens so I wasn't saving them for re-use.
If you've done a lot of phone repair and you have semi-professional equipment you might be fine, but my advice is to buy a screen too just in case.
I was afraid to i used some cheap repair kit from aliexpress, very big help is small glass swing and something like thin card what u pull between screen and frame. In any cases u can check YT there are planty of tutorials.
