Moto g6 plus soak update, android 9 - Moto G6 Plus Guides, News, & Discussion

Hilo: Minimal ADB and Fastboot
ADB Descarga Directa
Drivers
Y de paso los BootLogos
Instalador Automatico BootLogo (Blanco y Negro)
English
Hi Everyone, This is the update process to Android Pie (Soak Test)
[FONT= "Century Gothic"] This would not be possible without the support and collaboration of the members of the "evert" group [/FONT]
"We can do all things together"
First of all, we must have the Unlocked Bootloader which can be obtained from any of these two Post
Unlock Bootloader (English & Español)
Preparing-to-unlock-bootloader-t3854240
Then download the Stock Rom with the compilation: OPWS27.113-89-2
Download
Download the Ota's files
Download
Let's not forget the ADB files and Motorola Drivers
Thread: Minimal ADB and Fastboot
ADB Direct Download
Drivers
And of course the BootLogos
BootLogo Automatic Installer (Black and White)
Once with all the files already downloaded, we proceed to put them into a single folder, so they can be used more quickly.
Unzip ROM 89-2, and adb in a single folder
Run the File " flash rom.bat
Connect the phone in fastboot mode and wait
We skipped all the configuration without allowing you to connect to the Internet
Unzip the zip with the otes and pass the largest file 27 .----- to the phone's memory
We go to Apps permissions -> Storage -> Show System -> Activate, deactivate and activate "Motorola Update"
We should see the update menu, if not, let's go to updates and it will appear
We let it install and restart
Now we put the other files in the internal memory and automatically the updates will be detected, installed and now.
After installing all the updates, we do a hard reset.
If we want to remove the announcement from Bootloader, unzip the zip with the Logos and choose the white or black and execute the corresponding ".bat" (Important not to use it before or give an error in the update process)
Root:
We got it with Magisk
We pass the zip to the external memory (the internal one is encrypted) and we put the phone in fastboot mode
Download the Recovery and execute it
Download TWRP executable
We install the Zip and reboot, in case it presents errors or does not appear we repeat the previous step.

Thank you. I'm downloading and I will test it. I hope it will work.

I put a massive warning out here for anyone that's going to install this. First of all, with the public version rollout probably very soon, you should ask if it's worth it to install the soak because you have to go back to stock oreo for the official pie ota.
But aside from that, i'm putting a warning here as there have been people bricking their device with the soak.
Obviously, bricking is always a risk factor when your flashing things but i don't know if there will eventually be a fix for those that end up bricked. Do with your device whatever you want but keep this in mind. Yes you get stock pie with soak, but consider if the risk taken is worth the gain.

Hello, what firmware version were you on? I'm on 89-5 and I'm not sure if downgrading to 89-2 can cause bricks

Hi, Albert, I think you are the one who did this tutorial. THANKS :highfive: . It worked for me; XDA is the most known comunity so I think you should post it here too...

"(…) Download the application "Y200ToolBox".
Then, configure the device
> Settings -> Applications -> Quick Restart (uncheck)
> Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging (enable)
Adb drivers installed connect the device and given the option to finish installing the phone disconnected).
Turn off the device, remove the battery a few seconds then put back. Get the device in Fastboot with the combination of the [Volume-/ Power] during 15sec until it stay stuck in the logo
Connect the device to the PC and run the software
Select the Root + CMW
It takes a few seconds to work, do not touch anything.
It takes a while because the software will be doing some work, but it tells you when the process is finished completely and boot.
And you'll be already root users”
It work perfect for me for rooting, CMW I’m still trying, and when I get it I’ll post it. I hope it will work for everybody.
All credits to the friends in MyHuawei.net for the creation of the tool”

IMPORTANT/IMPORTANTE:
When I used the tool it didn’t work, so I navigated to the install directory Programs Files/MyHuawei.Net and I found a BAT file: “root.bat” that I ran and did the job, it took like 5 minutes. Follow the steps in the Albert tutorial, and run “root.bat” instead of the “Y200ToolBox.exe” if this happens to you. Wait a while, then the phone will boot unrooted, wait a little more and it will boot again by itself and do the Root. :victory:
The error message was like: It’s not a win32 valid application.
XDA doen't let me post the link. Search "Y200ToolBox" in google.
XDA no me deja postear el link. Busquen "Y200ToolBox" en google.

Why did your pc restarted? or do you mean your Device?
This is what the root.bat do:
first it erase the recovery image and flash an image with cwm (step that will make your device to not get into the recovery any more... There's a solution)
second it flash the y200recovery.img that is in the y200toolbox directory
third it boots
then when the device boots into the android software and you see the loader, or the lock (depending on your configuration) it will run a shell in adb that will get the superuser.apk in the /system directory. If you're using an Huawei u8655-51, there will be not a chance to damage anything if your pacient.
last it sends the adb reboot command to the phone and the phone boots rooted.
Know, make all things again, but wait until the command promt shuts itself.
If you damaged the booting process in the phone it might be because you used another ".bat" in the directory. Which will change the boot.img so you should use the stockkernel.bat whit the device in fastboot mode to restore it.
Hi... I have used "Y200ToolBox" to root my phone, but it seems something went wrong. I tried to do it again, but while I restart the phone it restarts to CWM recovery. I don't know when this happened. So I think I disconnected the phone before the rest of the process completed the first time I tried, I mean the rooting part... Can you help me to solve this?
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Instalelo
Reinicie
Ya tienes Root

can't root motorola g6 plus (xt-1926-3)
I have a Motorola moto g6 plus (XT1926-3). And i've been trying to root it. I'm trying to unlock my bootloader but , whenever i go into fastboot mode.
Suddenly my phone isn't detected by either fastboot or adb. When i'm using my phone normally it gets detected by adb and not fastboot. I have tried to install the usb drivers by installing Motorola device manager but, i hear a Windows error sound when it gets to step 2 and just hangs on the last few percentile of step 2. I also tried to install the drivers from a site called Motorolausbdriver but then the installation hangs at about 60%. To anyone willing to help me, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

[GUÍA] [ESPAÑOL] [STOCK] Cómo actualizar tu Moto Z2 Play a Pie 9.0 con adb (fastboot)

This guide is for those spanish native speakers that do no understand the english language, please note that translators sometimes makes inaccurate translations and might cause misleads, causing confusion or a required CRITICAL step to not be followed properly. These inaccuracies with the fact non-English speakers might not understand everything as well as a native or fluent speaker, can lead to otherwise unwanted avoidable bricks.
Pasos a seguir:
2) Instala los drivers (Windows) en este orden, primero instala los Drivers Universales ADB, luego instala los drivers de Motorola y reinicia la PC;
3) Descomprime el firmware, el ADB y los scripts todos juntos en la misma carpeta (agradecimientos a htcmania por el paquete);
4) Apaga tu teléfono y ponlo en modo fastboot (Volumen menos + Power), luego conéctalo a la computadora, espera la instalación de los drivers si es necesario;
Code:
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
Fabio Feher said:
echo KEEPVERITY=true>>/data/.magisk
echo KEEPFORCEENCRYPT=true>>/data/.magisk
6) Flashear Magisk
7) Reinicien

Agusti94 said:
Click to collapse
Code:
fastboot flash logo logoz.bin

[GUIDE] [STOCK] How to update your Moto Z2 Play to Android 9.0 Pie (fastboot)
Due to the forum rules there must be posted an english version of the original thread. Any questions you have you can ask here or DM directly.
FOR SECURITY REASONS YOUR BOOTLOADER MUST BE UNLOCKED, IF ITS LOCKED AND SOMETHING GOES WRONG DURING THE PROCESS YOU MIGHT BE UNABLE TO UNBRICK IT RENDERING IT UNUSABLE, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR FAILED INSTALLATIONS, BRICKS, ETC. IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED TO BACKUP ALL YOUR PHONE DATA (SPECIALLY NFS SO YOU CAN RESTORE YOUR IMEI IF YOU LOSE IT SOMEHOW) WITH TWRP BEFORE STARTING.
This guide is based on @HTCDevil's guide, which was originally meant to upgrade from Nougat to Oreo, so I adapted his guide so it also works to update from Oreo to Pie and also updated it with more relevant information that isn't available on the old outdated guides.
It has been tested and it works with the following models of the Z2 Play:
XT1710-01, XT1710-02, XT1710-06, XT1710-07, XT1710-09 and XT1710-10 works without issues with the general same commands, it also works with the XT1710-08 and XT1710-11, the former needs to remove the two modemst lines and with the latter it needs to remove also those two lines, plus the modem and fsg lines, so I included all possible cases for every model.
A special, big, superb thanks to Junior Passos @Junior Passos the op of the motozbrasil thread. <<<
NOTE: This guide focuses mainly on upgrading to Android Pie with adb fastboot, so I am already assuming you have Android 8 (Oreo) installed, if your phone is still in Android 7 (Nougat), you might as well do the official OTA update since at this time and date it is now available for all models of the Z2 Play worldwide.
Steps to follow:
1) Download Drivers and all required files (links at the end of this post);
2) Install the drivers (Windows) in this order, and install Universal ADB Drivers, then install the Motorola Drivers and reboot your PC;
3) Unzip the firmware, ADB and the scripts everything in a single folder (special thanks to htcmania for the package);
4) Turn off your phone and put it into fastboot mode (Volume down + Power), then connect it to your PC, wait for drivers to install if they haven't installed yet;
5) Copy the corresponding script to the root folder where it is located the executable adb.exe
6) Depending on the model of your Z2 Play, execute the corresponding script .bat and follow instructions.
Profit.
It is recommended to do a clean install, that is, do a full wipe before updating.
To simplify things there are 3 entirely omitted lines that aren't really needed and in fact in can cause problems in the chinese variants, these files are:
Code:
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
It is known that the modem file (NON-HLOS.bin) that comes with Stock Pie causes audio issues during calls whenever a custom ROM is installed afterwards, because it distorts the audio to the point it becomes impossible to understand the call, so this file specifically should be skipped unless you are updating from Nougat to Oreo, in that case it should be flashed too. The modem file from Stock Oreo works flawlessly on all Stock and Custom ROMs, so stay with this one.
Also you will need a RETAIL Stock ROM, at the end of the post I will leave the link to get that and the modem.
If you have a corrupted boot.img and you are not able to flash (like bangood or other shops do with chinese model), you first have to give that:
Code:
fastboot flashing unlock
---STUCK ON LOGO AFTER INSTALLING MAGISK ON STOCK ROM --- HOW TO FIX IT
Sometimes when installing Magisk your phone may get stuck in bootloop forever, so here is one workaround to fix it, you can also flash uninstaller and try again with other version.
Agusti94 said:
VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!
To install magisk flash first V19.x from twrp, then update to V20.x from the manager. otherwise the phone gets stucked in bootloop

About Magisk in Oreo, you could give a thanks to Fabio Feher:
Fabio Feher said:
It work for me:
1: Reboot into Bootloader
2: ADB Flash TWRP
3: Start Recovery (TWRP)
4: Enter in ADVANCED > TERMINAL
5: Run commands:
echo KEEPVERITY=true>>/data/.magisk
echo KEEPFORCEENCRYPT=true>>/data/.magisk
6: Flash Magisk
7: Reboot.
Click to collapse
To install Magisk in Pie follow the same steps above, except you don't have fo follow steps 4 and 5, just flash it and reboot.
MAGISK IN GSIs: To install Magisk in Custom GSIs, you need to flash this modded version of phhusson's Magisk, also you cannot update it, so you have to stuck with that version, you can update the manager apk, tho. If your phone gets stuck on logo or keeps in bootloop flash the uninstaller provided at the end ot this post.
Moto Z logo
After unlocking your bootloader, whenever you turn on your phone you will notice that the Stock Moto Z boot logo is gone and instead it shows some ugly text telling what is already obvious, so in order to get rid of that and replace the Void Warranty text you can flash this Stock Moto Z logo with this command:
Code:
fastboot flash logo logoz.bin
It worked for me, so it should work for you too.
Hope is useful.

That happens when you flash the incorrect boot.img. incorrect I mean another firmware version of the boot.img or a boot.img from another device .
You have to get the correct boot.img and flash it the same way you did it.
* Be sure you have the Moto One Fusion. If you have the Moto One Fusion Plus you have to get the firmware for that specific device. The link in the steps below is for Moto One Fusion.
Don't worry, if you read carefully and follow the next steps you can fix your device.
1. I suggest you to download the most recent firmware from here https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/astro/official/
2. Unzip the downloaded file and get the boot.img
3. Flash it the same way you did it with the incorrect boot.img
4. If that fix the touch issue and everything works fine you can use the same boot.img to be patched by magisk and try the step 3 with the patched boot.img.
5. If step 3 doesn't work return to step 1 and try with another firmware version.
6. If the steps above didn't work, You can flash the full firmware. You have to follow another steps for that. Let me know first if that happens .

Good to know your phone is working again. That guide has exactly the steps I was talking about. Just in case you still interested in magisk, you can use the boot.img file you flashed to fix your phone to be patched by magisk app. The result will be a flashed_boot.img that you can flash using the command:
fastboot flash boot flashed_boot.img
and there you go. If something goes wrong you can flash the original one as follow
fastboot flash boot boot.img
The only rule here is to flash the correct boot.img file. The same your phone is already using. If you use a boot.img from another firmware version you're going to experience the same screen touch problem.
fastboot flash boot flashed_boot.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
good friends again what happens is that it begins to present errors in the android. the screen goes black every time I use it. and then I have already restarted it from the factory, I have also fasted all the versions of the firmware and it continues with the same failure if someone knows why this happens to me I would thank you
,
Can you make a video (from another phone)

Ok, I asked for a video because I don't understand the problem at all.
By the way, are you sure you flashed the last firmware version?
Can you put here the full firmware file name ?
Have you tried with another firmware versión?
