Bluetooth car audio - phone OK; playing music -> no sound - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

When hooking up my Poco F1 to my car audio (Toyota Yaris, 2012) via bluetooth, I can easily connect and make/receive phone calls.
When hooking it up to a bluetooth speaker, I can stream sound, e.g., from VLC player.
On LOS16 (20181219) and crDroid (20181219), when hooked up to my car via bluetooth, I can see which song is being streamed (song title shows up on car screen), but no sound.
I have no magisk modules activated at all. I do have magisk 18.0 installed for root purposes.
I have experimented with beryllium-V10.1.3.0-9.0-vendor-firmware and am now on 8.12.24-9.0. No sound with both.
I want to look into this in detail, but not sure what to experiment with.
I like a full-featured ROM like crDroid or AEX and I really need a ROM that is confirmed to work with encryption.
So, questions:
- any one else has similar problems?
- what should I be experimenting with? ROM version, vendor version, magisk modules, codec settings, ...?
- any known solutions?
EDIT: the same problem exists when connecting my Poco F1 to my desktop via bluetooth: no audio streaming sound from my desktop speakers. On my Axon 7, this is not a problem.
Thank you.

[Q] Routing Audio over HFP instead of A2DP?

I wonder if it would be possible on a rooted Android phone to play audio (music, navigation) through a HFP-enabled bluetooth car-system.
Many car-systems don't support A2DP but just HFP or HSP.
I'm aware that HFP/HSP is not stereo and just low-quality but it would still be way better than the builtin phone-speaker.
Basically an app would have to open an HFP channel (thereby simulating an ongoing call) and then route the "normal" audio via that channel.
Any ideas? Would that work?
I am looking for something like this did you find anything?

Hey, folks!
Today, in 2014 there are many options for not rooted Android users. Just search : BTMono, BTHeadset, BT Music, Audio Router and alike...
Some are free, others paid, some trials, etc. The one I have is working quite fine: BTHeadSet
The car acts as if I were receiving a phone call and the audio is routed, sent to the car speakers.
Have a nice day ! *-*

OaT's LnT - my bugs

Well, in light of everything, I still will post the bugs I'm experiencing on 8/29
I have the 32GB version. I wiped/factory reset.
- Bluetooth pairing to Jawbone Jambox is hit or miss, when it does pair, trying to enter into the BT settings causes an FC everytime. This has been happening with all the builds of LnT I've ever tested (#1 reason why I didn't use it as my daily rom) As a comparison, CM9 08/19 nightly doesn't have this problem
- Dolby mobile audio doesn't seem to do anything meaningful. I don't have any .mp3s stored on my TP, I've been using EX file explorer to connect to a local NAS, and then playing the .mp3 with whatever default audio player is built into EXFE. While it's playing, I first tried to switch between speaker/headset toggle, and through the speakers, it doesn't make any difference to the audio currently being played. I don't know if this is user error or what, maybe it only works with local mp3s using android music player?
- Turning off Dolby mobile audio will not allow me to turn it back on until I reboot
- I tried the Beats Audio build, again, turning on for example Bass boost did nothing for my ears. Does the equalizer only work for local mp3? I was trying with streaming audio from tune-in radio
- Intermittent: touchscreen stops responding. The workaround is quickly turn off/on TP. Then it works again
Sorry, I'm a n00b and a bunch of these could be user errors, not understanding the feature.
OK so the audio loss bug is still in 8/29 for me. The work around is having headphones plugged in on boot, let it sleep, wake up and unplug headphones
Also, crackling audio also occurs for me, sleep and wake fixes problem but then touch screen is intermittently unresponsive. These bugs do it happen for me in cm9 nightly

Bluetooth car stereo connecting as "(no phone)"

Hello,
Need some help with phone calls not passing through Bluetooth to my car stereo.
It's a new stereo, the old one died, but I could make/receive calls with it without any problems.
The new stereo recognises BT media audio, but not phone calls (incoming or outgoing).
The BT settings screen shows the car stereo as "Connected (no phone)"
I am using [ROM][Slim][6.0.1][AOSP_r74][Slim 6 For Kenzo][21/11/2016] and I saw two posts here and here from @DoubleDroz experiencing the same issue.
I would ask at that thread, but unfortunately it has been locked by @Umang96.
I've seen this problem mentioned before with some ROMs.
I know the phone's BT works fine because it worked with the previous car stereo only yesterday (and it works with the new stereo for media audio).
I've tried a few apps from the PlayStore but nothing sorted the issue.
Ideally, I'd like to stick with this ROM, old as it might be, as I find it just fine for my needs (I don't play any games, it's work only).
But if I have to install a different ROM to get bluetooth calls in the car I will because it is a necessity.
I don't want to install MIUI though, can't stand it.
I would use Krexus-CAF if it hadn't the issues with GPS navigation, which is also a necessity.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Hi, i found fix for bluetooth "NO PHONE" on car set. It's work on latest LOS rom. Follow this post.

Bluetooth phone audio not working

I've bought a pair of bluetooth stereo headphones with mic. I've connected them successfully and both options for phone audio and media are enabled. I can listen to media, music and audio from apps. The problem is when i place a call. Although on the call screen at the bottom left the bluetooth icon is selected the call's audio is redirected to the phone's earpiece not to the bluetooth. The same headphones work great with another phone i checked. I have tried everything from dev, stable roms to aosp rom.The problem persists on call. I've tried mono bluetooth and calling works great. I've tried the sound about app and all the same.I've tried google dialer but also the same problem. So i am left with a bluetooth headset that i can only listen to music and not place a call.Any help or idea?
I am also facing the same problem. The Bluetooth connection displays - "Connected (no phone)". The Bluetooth headset works fine for phone media but doesn't work for calls. Anyone is able to use a Bluetooth device with Redmi NOte4 please?
I've been using Bluetooth on RN4 on nougat. However, I faced the issue you're describing only on Oreo ROMS.

this is a bug prevalent in all oreo roms, however some say that in omni rom, bluetooth call audio works, so maybe you can try that out

I am using the stock MIUI 9.2 ROM and still facing this problem. Any help is highly appreciated.
No issue with BT calls on mido 9.0.5.0 or 9.2

It works in Atomic OS Plasma (Oreo).
BTW, there is a list of Oreo ROMs here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-4/help/extensive-list-oreo-roms-mido-t3741277
Yes exact same problem cannot enjoy call via bluetooth headset. I think it's manufacturer defect in the phone. Cheap Bluetooth hardware Xiaomi placed I guess

Crappy bitrate through bluetooth headphones?

If you've got a relatively decent ear for audio quality and you've used bluetooth headphones with the poco F1, you'll have noticed the bitrate sucks. A lot of ugly distortion in quiet parts of songs.
It's due to the F1 being limited to the SBC codec I think. You can go into the settings and change it to AAC but it instantly reverts. So you can't really change it. With Bose headphones at least.
Has anyone successfully fixed this? The only thing that sort of worked for me was rooting the phone and installing a Magisk module that juiced up the bitrate. This was great. But the module would randomly disable itself, and having to reboot the phone every time you wanted to re-enable it made it impractical to use. And I can't even see it in Magisk anymore, it's vanished.
The module was called "Bluetooth stack audio bitrate changer for SBC + aptX & aptX-HD enabler" for anyone curious.
Has anyone here looked into this low-quality audio issue and found a solution?
Still the same. What the hell, where's everyone?!?!?!?!
UPD: That happened after i update my MIUI from 11.0.5.0 (latest Android 9 version) to MIUI 12.
