Worth buying a new Mi Pad 1 in 2019? - Xiaomi Mi Pad Questions & Answers

EDIT: I managed to find a used one for half that price, so I jumped at it!
Hi!
I found a local dealer who still has a few brand new Mi Pad 1 in stock for about $250.
Is that a good price, and is it worth getting 2019?
If I buy one it will be mainly for gaming (emulators to be more specific). I wanted to pick up a Nvidia Shield K1, but they seem rather expensive for a pre owned one, and a Xiaomi Mi Pad is internally pretty much the same thing, right?

I dont think it is a good choice in 2019 and that too for 250 dollar is too much i bought it 3 yrs back (brand new) for 10000 inr that's arround 140.45 dollars. I would say rather go look for mi pad 4 or any new ipads. As far as gamming goes nah drivers are not too much optimised hence poor performance like you will get 20-25 fps in pubg with everything set to lowest with gfx tool and custom rom (nvidia shield blobs which in my opinion is the fastest available for this thing)

I paid $80 for mine pre owned, wouldn't much more than that even for a 64gb model.

$250??? Oh my God,Profiteer!!!

Go for Mi Pad 4. Treble support, SD 660 and stable Pie for $250

In general it would definitely be a bad idea but if you just want to play low power emulators like NES and all then you could go for it. But don't expect good performance from emulators like dolphin and PPSSPP. also, I would recommend you install a shield blobs based rom as soon as you get your device.

Looking for inexpensive tablet that performs well after custom rom and overclocking?

Ok guys I am looking for a 2nd tablet that can be used in the home. I purchased a transformer prime but am now looking to get an inexpensive android tablet. What I would like is maybe something that has been out a while that the price has dropped on that maybe out of the box isn't so great but once a custom rom is put on it and some overclocking makes it a real joy to use. I think the HP touchpad might be good for this but finding one is hard and still most that I see are above the $300 dollar price. I am looking to maybe stay $250 or less if possible.
Maybe this is a good choice.

Google might release a tablet that costs less than $200. Running Android 4.0. 7-inch display!

Looking for something that might be out already.
looks fake to me. ICS will probably be outdated by june. plus, there's no way they will be able to price it under $200 using "high end latest hardware". The only way tablets today are able to remain under the $200 pricetag is by re-using existing technology like outdated but overclocked CPUs.

Any ideas have any good suggestions other than debating what is coming out?
I suggest Nook Color. OC to 1300, put CM7, and nothing can compete with it, price vice. Just go for manufacturer refurb, save $50, apart box you will see no difference.

Nexus 9 16 for 400$ or nexus 9 32 for 500$

Is this tablet worth the asking price? I currently returned my Nvidia Shield Tablet because the quality felt a little meh, and the screen kept showing distortion by pushing it.
Any thoughts and suggestions?
I would really like to stick to Android and this seems to be the closest to the quality of the Air 2.
Would I be ok with the 16 GB?
not worth it for most people imho. lotsa problems if you check all the existing threads. somehow the majority in the threads, including me, are only getting 5-7 hours or screen time web browsing when the pro reviews show ~9hrs (videos are fine - 10hrs+), memory leaks needing daily reboots (which could be fixed by a patch), light bleed, removal of the ability to adjust the volumes without going into settings (you can only adjust the volume of what's being used at the time you press the volume button - ringer, alerts, media aren't expandable).
i still love mine for now, but i'd never tell anyone to buy one until google patches the software problems. the hardware is decent but far from premium. i'd say at $250 it's a good deal, $300 is fair, but at $400 there are other options.
i got it because i just got my hands on a old galaxy tab 8.9. i used to have one when they first came out and i loved the size. i have a note 8, but kinda not digging the size any more. i considered the 8.4, but the nexus at 8.9 - 4:3 is as tall as the 8.4 @ 16:10 and as wide as a 10.1 @ 16:10. for me it makes for better browsing and reading. some people prefer not having black bars in movies, but the size of the image will be the same on an 8.4 16:10 as it is on the 4:3 nexus.
also, the speakers are nice. i haven't had a tablet with sound this good since my archos 101t.

I have the 32gb Nexus 9. I bought an open box 16gb first but I donated that to my daughter and got the 32gb. Having said that I have noticed no build quality issues with either one of them. It looks good and feels very solid. I have owned many different devices and the Nexus 9 is built better than most. In order for me to use a 16gb device it has to have a microsd card slot.

I hate the huge markup on the 32 gb but its the way to go. would prefer 64gb if they had any.
THanks for reply guys. I reserved a white 32GB model but then saw the 600$ price tag with taxes here in Toronto...for that money I could literally get a laptop
I wish it was around 300$ for the 16 GB and 400 for the 32 and I'd totally be ok with that...but at 529.99 I might just get a video card at this point .
I really like the design of the nexus 9 and the look is very beautiful though! I'm sure most software problems will be patched but I expected lollipop to be a smoother transition.
I am in Toronto got the 32gig version, never regretted it.

I, too, wish the Nexus 9 was cheaper. Heck, I wish most things in life are cheaper.
With that said, I had my Nexus 9 16GB since almost day 1 (day 3 to be exact) and have been loving it. Unlike some people who have complained on the forum, I am fortunately among the Nexus 9 owners who never had a single problem.
You may be able to get a laptop at around $600 but it would be a crappy one and it would still be a laptop and not a tablet, which have very different functions. Some of the cons of a laptop being heavier, harder to just pick up and use, lack of touch screen... etc. If you DO for some reason want an "actual computer" for work, then no tablet is ideal for you.
I got the 16 GB also. Instead of forking over extra cash for additional 16 GB space I put the money towards a WiFi HD. All I need now is cifs support.
I'm thinking of Getting the 16 GB model, then using an OTG cable and putting a usb stick when ever i need to watch movies.
I'll just put minor TV Shows or Movies on the tablet that I watch on subway (although I watch mostly on my phone on subway).
Everyone bought the 16 GB version though LOL, I need to find one
@woshiweili
You're missing the point of what I mean though, I'm not trying to make it sound Like I want everything to be cheap, I just want everything to be fair.
The price is very Expensive. for the same price you can get a Samsung Tab S which has a superior Screen and the addition of microSD, also 3 GB ram.
This tab should have been 300 price for standard and 400 for 32 GB...also 680+ for LTE? I'm sorry but no LTE card is worth an additional 150$
Anyways I'm going to go pick one up today hopefully if I can find one.

Get one of these microSD card readers:
http://www.meenova.com/
It is very small so it will not get in the way as bad as a OTG cable and usb drive.

You will need something like ESfile Explorer to see the device when you use it on your Nexus but it works perfectly.

That's no problem, to watch movies I usually use ES anyways since it also has root access.
i know with archos media player you can index just about any non-root folder, even networked shares (paid version, dunno about the free) and other media players shouldn't have any problems directly accessing a mounted drive.
i considered using my otg cables but i didn't want to lose the ability to charge and use an external drive if it ever came down to it. helluva lot cheaper thought, lol.
I was lucky enough to find an open box Nexus 9 32GB so I saved give or take about 75$. So I ended up paying 25$ extra or so for an extra 16 GB. Will open it when i get home.
Thanks for help guys!
dunno where you got it from, but amazon has the 32 for 429 and bb will price match. I got my 16gb for 350 plus tax new.

As you can see from my profile pic I'm from Canada, and Best Buy will only price match with the Canadian Amazon. Either way I came out about the same with the open box, the only downside is that it was opened but looking it over it's literally brand new.
Don't rule out Swappa. I bought a brand new, sealed 16GB Black Nexus 9 for $330 shipped/no tax, and went on online chat with Google Play Store to transfer ownership of the serial number to me.
Hope you enjoy it. I've made the decision to keep mine and let go of the note 8. Gonna miss using the s pen when taking recipe note while cooking. Lecture notes and a standard capacitive pen will make do until thet make a 9" note. I don't regret my purchase and like the 4:3 more than I thought I would.
I ended up returning it because it had a lot of screen bleed. I'm just going to wait and see what happens when the nvidia x1 comes out.
Thanks for replies guys!!
I went through too many exchanges with the nvidia shield to do it with this one...and this is around 200$ more. I'll just wait and see of any revisions fix the problem.

Should i (or would you) buy Nexus 9 now or wait some time for new devices?

Hello everyone,
Sorry for pretty dumb question, but i hope you could give me advice! I'll explain my situation a bit, i currently own 10" Chinese Onda tablet, performance is pretty awful, battery life also (~1 hr of reading/browsing can drain 40%), i use it mainly for browsing and reading because gaming is impossible (from one side it is good, because i can spend more time with my family ) ) i never take it out, mainly because of battery life..
So from one side i can live with it with my needs like reading, books and browsing, from the other side it lag's like hell, crashes and battery, well as i said...
So i tried to look for some more descent alternative (one of it could be eReader, but then i still would need another device for lazy browsing or some apps, so i'am more on the tablet side). So i checked what is on the market today and i could get Nexus 9 16 GB for about 300 EUR on Amazon. And as BlackFriday is landing i'am hoping for some discounts, so i'am wandering, should i grab Nexus 9 if it would be available for let's say 250 EUR? What concerns' me is how future proof will it be? Dual-core + 2GB ram seems to be pretty low for today. What i like that it is supported both by Google bot Custom ROM's, so while it is popular device it will have at least some support. But maybe it is too late to buy one today and be patient and wait for future device?
I don't feel like paying more than 300 EUR in any case for tablet, though i could afford it i just don't justify it as proper "investment"
So, that it! Thans for your help and opinion.
UPD: What about new NVIDIA SHIELD K1? What is your opinion, seems like super deal for 200EUR? Maybe except screen size and aspect ratio.
300 Euros is way too expensive for this tablet. Even 250 is too much. If this tablet had a Nexus 5 level of speed and smoothness, it would be worth it. Unfortunately, on stock, it doesn't. As they haven't sorted it out properly in a year now, I don't think they ever will. :crying:
In the UK at the moment, Argos are selling the 16GB version for £150. This is a more reasonable price.
If you are on a budget, I'd also consider the LG V500. Its still on 4.4.2, but the performance is great and it has an SD Card slot. If you know where to look, you can pick one up for £100/145 Euro. the V510 from the US is even better. :victory:

Hi, thanks for your input. I can't find any deal at Argos for £150 :/ About LG, i don't like ones that drop support for their devices.
What everyone think about new NVIDIA SHIELD K1? It will have Marshmallow, 3D performance should be awesome, also i should be able to utilize my GTX 970 here, and it cost £150, only downside for me is screen size, but it is just IMHO, i never used such aspect ratio.

Yes I take your point regarding LG. If you could get a V510, its a GPE device making it almost Nexus.
I cant comment on the Nvidia shield. It does seem strange to me however that the original Nexus 7 had memory issues and the Nexus 9 has memory issues. The both used Nvidia SoC as oppose to Snapdragon. Maybe just a coincidence? I've never had any issues with devices using SD SoC.

V510 from US would cost around 200EUR, and GPE seems to be dead already
New shield seems very interesting device... My hands are itching
I like the Nex9.
I bought the 32GB for $305 shipped and got a nice $12 case, so basically $320 total and I am very pleased. I was mainly concerned with battery life as I like to sometimes leave it alone for 3-4 days and want to have a charge.
I am on Pure Nexus ROM, but even on stock mra58n build I was able to leave it overnight and only lose 3-4% battery. So I can leave it around for say 5 days and still have at least 70% battery.
I get around 6 hours SOT so far from my use but I've only had it a short while so I expect it to only get better as it calibrates.
It has its faults, and something better I am sure may be on the way, but you may find a great deal on black Friday and I would jump on it.
When I saw the 40% off from HTC I did and am glad I did.
Best of luck.
I was a frustrated N9 owner until MM. I still can't believe it! The lag has not returned as it always had within a month of each of my six wipes over the past 10 mos. I tried DU and ran Elementalx. Lag remained and reboots (up to 3x daily) continued. Each flash was a complete wipe. Chrome (I use beta) is still a battery hog--probably what causes the heat, but it's my choice to use it. My tab works the way it always should have. I'm running xposed with gravity box. Everything is running well. For the first time, I can recommend this tablet--especially if you can grab the next HTC 40% off deal over Thanksgiving.

Mi Pad vs Mi Pad 2 for Gaming

Hey guys! I'm planning to buy a tablet for mainly for gaming. Just to mention, the SDcard slot isn't a biggie for me since 16gb would be enough.
I know that the Tegra K1 is powerful, especially for gaming, but I'm also seeing some good feedback with the 2nd gen's Intel performance. I'm leaning towards the 1st gen due to the Tegra chip, but I'm not sure how the Intel chip would perform against the Tegra K1. So I got just one question that would be a deal maker/breaker for me.. Game performance-wise, is the Mi Pad 2 better at games versus the 1st gen Mi pad? Or does the Tegra chip outclass the Intel chip on framerate and game stability?
or...
Are there other 7.9-8" tablets around that price point that are good/better at gaming? Please don't suggest the Shield. It's extremely rare to find one here.

forget any decent gaming on mi pad 2 the intel gpu(12 eu) cant keep up even with mild games. The original mi pad is still pretty solid for gaming. Even the atom x7 is no match for gpu in k1.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/9219/the-surface-3-review/6
(note on android the scores will be slightly higher but performance would be the same)
Oh, alright, thanks! The mi pad 1 is using miui 7 already, right? I'm also seeing some threads in miui that compared to the shield, mi pad is kinda lagging. Is that true?
Hi mipad user here . Gaming on this tablet is excellent but expect some overheating . can't compare it to a shield cuz I don't have one . but I think a shield will play games better cuz it has more optimised software . yeah buying this tab expect not much software support from xiaomi . you will get updates for miui but those updates are features that should have been on the OS when this tab was launched . I suggest if you can buy shield buy it but if your on a budget buy this tab . also can't compare it to mipad 2 cuz I haven't used one also but I think the windows version is interesting . also if you ever buy a mipad I suggest flashing a custom ROM cuz miu7 on mipad is not on par with miui 7 on other mi devices .
guys is mi pad 1 having update to lollipop yet?
Based on this http://xiaomiadvices.com/list-of-phones-getting-miui-7-android-5-1-1-lollipop-update/
its on the list , btw fellow users do you guys experience anything such as undetectable SD card or unable to use OTG ??
No.. MI pad 1 is still 4.4..yet it is far better then the pad 2

Best Bang for the buck Sub 8" Android Tablet?

Hi everyone,
I'll try to make this short. I haven't looked at android tablets since i bought the Nexus 10 when it came out.
I'm currently looking to get a cheap android tablet to carry around all day. What i'd like isn't much
- Priced as low as possible (sub 100€ would be great). I'm willing to go used if i have to but prefer warranty.
- Sub 8 Inch. 7 preferred
- Either comes with close to stock android or some stable stock rom (ideally android 8)
- Decent Web-browsing and HD Video. No gaming required.
- Bonus Points for a Sim slot but Wifi only will work.
So, whats the go to small Tablet with XDA Approval (dev support) i should get? The Fire Tablets look incredible for what they cost, but Rom Support seems so so. I'm not sure how close they are to stock with Lawnchair launcher thrown on them.
Is the last model Nexus 7 (used) still serviceable or is it completely outdated? Maybe a use Nvidia Shield K1? One of the budget Chinese Options from GearBest maybe?? I'm really lost here.
