Hi guys,
I recently took apart my moto 360 2nd gen because the battery wasn't holding a charge, and after I installed the new battery, I noticed that the watch's bluetooth range was extremely short. I mean, I have to have it next to my phone (Galaxy S9) in order for it to get a bluetooth connection. I also tested its wifi range, and that has also taken a hit.
Any ideas?

Hi Liam. Same happened to me.
Did you find a solution? I suspect is may have something to do with Bluetooth/wifi antenna... I tried to look into internet for schematics or something like this, didn't find any.
The antenna is that sheet of metal paper around the case, it can get loose when putting it back.
Look for a full tutorial that includes the display and try again, if it was damaged you can try with a piece of foil to increase the surface. I have done this to notebook wifi antennas.

Anyone know of a possability to have an external antenna for wifi or anything else that would help increase or focus the signal to get a better/further wireless connection ?
Any ideas are welcome even if it means working (soldering) on the actual board of the Tytn if anyone has done something similar please post your findings here.
Tytn has an external antenna connector under a little cover on the case. Wilson sells antennas and cables and such for it, plug and play.

Just the phone signal as far as I've read. I'm not sure though.
I'll be trying it out as soon as mine gets here and I can let ya know, I need one for trying to get reception in the rural areas I go to often.
I have read somewhere on this forum that using the atennas that plug into the port on the back are a bad idea in these phones cuz the soders on the board break easily if you do and you lose all phone signal. I couldnt find again where I read it, sorry. So be careful if you do it.

im sure you could maybe, make some freak monster connector for the wifi antennas? nobody has done that? isnt there some basic internal one? or how does the wifi signal get broadcast/received?
yeah its possible but I don't want to fry the board if I put something that draws more power than the board can handle (because it sends and recieves) so I wanted to see if some electric engineer or hobbyist has ventured something like this before
your better off with some wrt54g(s) with ddwrt on it and use it to connect to it and then use the wrt54 to connect to whatever it is that you want for range lol i dont know in what situation your in... if its portable then ya the router thing would not work well if in car? or some other place then that would be the best choice heh
but if your connecting external antenna then its not really that portable anymore is it

I have no problem at home or at Uni but in hotels I usually have to point the device around to catch a signal (heads up that's where the base for wifi is) and the signal is so weak it disconnects or gets real slow somewhat annoying, still better than carrying a laptop around on small trips.
i'm willing to open mine up for better wifi, i would just like a guide or atleast some pictures and pointers with do's and don'ts.
i don't NEED my hermes, but i do love it enough to want it to continue to operate.. heh.
I took mine apart already i wanted to put the bestskinever on the screen its self so while doing that i was going to check out the insides and it was a pain to get it on without any lint and stuff on still got a very small one but its nice i cut the exact size of the whole LCD not the screen dimensions
so it covers it all... anyway
i saw both BT and WIFI internal antennas there... I really did not see any connector... though something that looked like one but i didnt pay much attention it was very small maybe .200" or so
I would assume you could un solder the internal wifi antenna but i would not recommend that... as there are i believe other resistor/capacitor and hmm coil that work for the right antenna length and so on... I THINK I havent done any electronics in a long time and never bothered with such devices and or high frequencies so I would not know.
I would recommend finding some other online forums dealing with the 2.4ghz wifi stuff and learn or ask questions if its possible to make a connector for the phone.

once again i would recommend that you get a cheap wrt54 put dd-wrt on it... config it properly for it to connect to other devices, they even have scripts to have it connect to open connections and the ones with strongest signal or you could config it manually through the web gui
that is far better IMO then modding your hermes heh, as i would think you would need an amplifier not just external antenna as that only might increase your sensitivity or a little better quality in signal but to boost the transmit power you would need an amplifier

there you go find the right one with the right version that will work with dd-wrt they only run like 50 bucks or so… and plus you can use it for anything else… you can boost the transmit power on them as well as replace the generic antennas

I've purchased 2 GPS antennas for my HTC Touch Cruise and for my friend who has the same phone from a reputed ebay seller who hasn't had any issues before with his products.
I've tried both antennas on my phone and none has shown an improvement, I also tried plugging in the phone to my car charger at the same time while I was in the car in case it had to be powered...but that also didn't work!
I also tried putting the antenna outside and my phone inside and still no signal.
Now it seems unlikely that both antennas aren't working on either Touch Cruise so I wanted to know is there a specific way of doing this? Did I miss a step?

I believe that my wifi/bluetooth cable is broken, as I have no wifi or bluetooth signal since dropping my phone as reported in a previous post of mine. Can anybody advise me on the difficulty of undertaking this repair myself, does it involve complete disassembly of phone, any soldering etc. If this is the case I don't feel confident enough to do this so does anybody know of someone who does this sort of repair, I have found the cable on e bay for £7 and it looks like it has push on connectors ?
What exactly do you mean by the "WIFI and Bluetooth cable"? WIFI and Bluetooth are wireless, that is the entire point.
purchased 2 of those devices specifically to use for tethering, need a device with wm6.5 and unfortunately can't use it since it can't pick up any signal from my routers or iphone or bluetooth tethering.
i can have this thing sitting on top of wifi ap and still get no signal. does anyone have any sort of a fix for it? thanks !

Would assume they have been opened for repair & not assembled correctly.
Usual issue for wifi/BT is coax cable not clipped into brass connectors correctly.
ideally you need pull back cover off & check the cables that rundown side near volume button.
also check all spring fingers on mainboard that contact on arial tabs of rear housing are present & correct position to contact.
Many people snap the spring fingers off the mainboard with rough handling & don't clip the coax cables in properly.
Also worth noting you have a power setting for wifi so that needs setting to max to help maximise range.
Use over 20 HD'2 in my work enviroment & wifi is perfectly good enough & they make a great wifi router/tetherer with wmwifirouter

To remove rear cover you don't use heatgun.
Pull battery, sim & memory card, remove all screws.
Use a plastic pry tool to loosen edges top & sides
*do not push any tools in around volume button area*
Main trick is to start at top as top has 2 good clips either side of speaker grill
once top showing signs of release work round side without volume key & once this shows signs of coming off it very easy.
Do not use metal tools, screwdriver as cause horrendous damage
Take care as many things are easily broken with poor handling.
Cover clips back very easily.

I have had this issue for awhile and have put it off thinking it was a headphone cable issue but it's not.
I have already tried cleaning with contact cleaner and rubbing alcohol.
My issue is that my phone will trigger "Google voice" search just by slight movement at the cable /jack junction. This is insanely annoying considering I bought this phone due to its audio prowess.
It will also automatically pause or change tracks with the same jack/cable movement.
I am Canadian and bought this from HK via ebay. I am one of those who almost never bother with warranties but obviously would seeing as I spend near a grand on this thing. How would I begin on a warranty claim?

Seems to be a common issue, unfortunately. I haven't really found a way to fix it yet.
How new is your device?
What type of finish is on the end of the cables ends?
I use this cable with almost no issue. Once in a while it will trigger voice when I plug in. But that's all.

I've also got a phone from HK prior to release in my country and have been struggling with this.
It looks to me that this is because of the way the phone detects your device. I've that the headphones that comes with the device and other earbuds works with no problems, but my bigger M40X for example have this.
The best solution I've found so far is this: plug it and leave it (not moving it at all) for about 10 seconds. After this the problem seems solved most of the time.
Unplugging and re plugging it several times also worked sometimes at the begging, but it was very frustrating and probably not so good for the longevity of the jack.
I'm actually about to make a factory reset for other reasons, but I'll post here if it makes any difference.
UPDATE: The factory reset did not fix the issue, but I have the impression it's triggering the high gain with my m40x as now I've noticed increased volume and no difference to when doing that trick of plugging the detachable cable first to the phone and then to the headset. Don't ask...
I had this issue a few times on my previous phone (Droid Maxx) when in the car, as I was plugging it in (usually when there was turbulence). I thought it was due to the tip of the plug contacting one of the other contacts in the jack. See this link for what the different parts of a headphone/mic combo plug or jack are. I'm not sure if your cable has all of those, but if the wrong ones touch maybe it triggers the mic to listen. Or internally your cable may be shorting between the different signals. Just spitballing ideas.
You know what guys, a friend of mine really liked my phone and got one as well. So when he got it I asked to him to test the jack problem with my headphones and it was simply not there. I do suspect this is a problem with the device. I'll try to get in touch with LG a second time for support (as the first time they asked me to get back to the country where I got it, the Philippines, and this is not really an option).

Funny you mentioned the volume increase. That is a trick I learned from someone in another thread as the standard gain setting for low impedance headphones was too weak. That made a vast improvement in volume and was a life saver because I bought this phone specifically for its audio abilities.
As for the Google voice thing the only thing I found that worked was going under apps and disabling the Google app which is ridiculous considering it kills Google on tap which is a big feature of android.
I am pretty sure this is being trigggered by the jack somehow engaging a contact. Explains why it's triggered when I move.
Drives me nuts. Read somewhere that MM fixed this but not for me. I will try enabling Google app and uncheck all the voice options and see if this helps.
You know what, after struggling long with this I've finally gathered the balls to buy a headphone jack part and replace it myself. I've done it with my old Nexus 4 (the jack actually broke there).
It takes a while to arrive, but I'll perform the change and post the result here.

I sometimes have the voice recognition and volume issue, but for me it appears to be an issue with my headphones (Bose MIE2i). I don't have the issue with any other headphone or cable. I have this issue when I fiddle with the in-line controls of the Bose (both this and the 1st pair of Bose). My belief was that it was due to poor shielding of conductors in the controller or shoddy wiring connections.
Did u ever solve the problem with replacement? Im having issues with left and right volume. Like a shorted cable, but bought new phones & still doing that.
Just in case anyone is still suffering from this problem, I made a discovery today. I've replaced the headphone jack in my v10 3 times thinking that they're just ****ty headphone jacks that break all the time, but in my case at least the fault wasn't the contacts inside the jack itself. I found that my problem was actually related to the push-down connector that clips to the motherboard. I had a hunch that keeping the phone in my pocket with headphones connected was slowly rocking it back and forth and would eventually disconnect it. In order to add more clamping pressure to the connector, I put 3 small slices of electrical tape on top of it before screwing the back down. On my walk home today, the left earphone would disconnect with literally every step that I made. After putting the electrical tape in the problem was solved.
