Which Rom is the best for the Mate 10 Pro - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

Hey Guys,
what do you think is the best costum rom (stable) for the Mate 10 pro?
Is it possible to flash it with Pie 9.0.161?
Thanks for Help :victory:

Just wait for the ota update to pie.

that's definitely a worse rom. i'm on it right now.

If you have the Pie update from firmware finder it's an approved ROM unless you have a modified recovery it checks and you wouldn't be able to install it if it wasn't approved so you probably have the latest approved ROM

Hi! Quick question. My BLA-L09 is on build number 8.0.0.131(c782). I'm rooted with Magisk via Pretoriano's TWRP using the all in one tool. I can't receive firmware updates because of this (they fail to install).
If I update to Pie, will I be able to root again with Magisk? How can make this update? I suppose I would need stock recovery back and don't know where to get it from it how to flash it. It was my first time doing this on a Huawei, I'm used to Samsung devices. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Nope, you won't. Any version from 8.0.0.146 and above will contain the new bootloader which won't let you unlock it or install twrp, magisk or whatever, most probably you will brick your phone like I did.
You'll be a lot safer to stay on what you're on. Huawei did a nifty development to make life miserable to anyone which likes to customize their phone. Maybe they should be called Huapple from now on...
I was in a similar situation as you, 141 if I remember correctly. Installed Xposed via magisk, got a bootloop, did a system restore via erecovery, got it working again and lost magisk/root so thought it would be the time to do the ota, didn't know about the bootloader change so found I was on emui 9, tried to install twrp but that bricked the phone. So I tried to do the system restore via erecovery again, but that didn't work.
After that tried every possible way (inc. paying funkyhw etc.) to recovery the phone, no way. If you try to downgrade it to a version before 146 it will hardbrick leaving you with a paperweigth.
So if I were you, I wouldn't touch a thing. I gave up and am waiting for my Oneplus 6, much better phone for this stuff.

Thank you for the info! And what about staying on my current bootloader and flash a custom ROM on my already installed TWRP?

There is a ResurectionRemix rom that can be used for that. Just search for RR-O-v6.0.0-20180402-bkl-OpenKirin.zip it should work as this one's flashable by twrp. I haven't tried it so can't tell if it does. I have the file but I don't know if it's complete as it only contains system.img which seems strange as normally there would also be a boot.img or at least a kernel.img

Need help with soft bricked Huawei P8

Hi guys...quick question. I have a Huawei P8 that "used" to have Marshmallow Beta Rom installed. Long story short. Since there was no root I tried to revert back to stock with fastboot. Problem is when I tried to flash the B200 stock rom it got stuck on the last "sending" file for about half an hour (which normally takes about 3 minutes for full rom flash). Thought that I just unplug and try to reflash rom again(big mistake it seems but my last 2 phones were nexuses so I thought that it's impossible to actually brick your phone). Anyway...now I'm stuck on a bootloop with no way of entering recovery or the bootloader or fastboot, or anything else for that matter. The Vol+ - and Power combinations don't seem to be working. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Yeah...already tried that. Eventually this morning, after countless tries I managed to flash the first firmware for our P8 which is a beta B030 version. Now technically the phone works..but I no longer have audio and device isn't getting recognised by the PC (though Fastboot works fine), therefore it must be a software issue. An hour ago I managed to flash B170 and even B200 but the audio issue and usb connection issue is still there. Kinda running on fumes here. Anyone has any other ideea if I should flash anything else. Mind you...I can only update via fastboot...Normal update methods do not work. Thanks
If you had marshmallow beta rom, there is a downgrade package. Have you used it? It's version B300

No...haven't used it. Got a link by any chance? I did a google search but the links were all dead. Thanks
UPDATE: Ok....found it...but I'm gonna need to extract it since local update isn't working. Will update. Bottom line...I messed up because I didn't do the research before trying to rollback to B200. Stupid me
You should go back to marshmallow and do a proper downgrade: B313 -> B300 -> B200
Check the thread, you have to downgrade via 3 button combination for B300, and 2 button combination for B200
B300 is the only proper downgrade package
Good luck!

[Question] How to do an Full Ota without loosing bootloader unlock?

Heeyy guys,
I have a question.
First time using huawei devices and can say that it's quite a hassle. Did brick my phone already once and afraid to do it again.
I got the update notification for the 8.0.0.142 firmware but I have twrp installed so I can't update though the Ota.
I want to do an clean install with the latest update but I'm reading that the bootloader can go locked again. Now with Huawei not providing a bootloader unlock I find it a bit tricky because I really need Magisk.
My question is.
Will someone be so kind as to help me out?
Info:
Huewei Mate 10 Pro
BLA-L29 8.0.0.137 (C432) (Current version)
TWRP Recovery installed.

If you have unlocked previously, I don't see your problem do full update and then unlock again your bootloader unlock code won't have changed from last time.

I've yet to come across any fw that lock again on Oreo. On Nougat this was standard.
And I have b142 installed and it didn't lock
You can however, if you don't want to flash back stock recovery, flash using HuRUpdater using TWRP.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/development/tool-flash-official-firmware-recovery-t3769279
I've tested it and it works if you're using TWRP by pretoriano80, as it has some stuff needed that "official" TWRP by dees_troy doesn't have.
You can find it here if you don't have it already: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-10/development/huawei-mate-10-pro-twrp-3-2-1-0-t3769904
Edit: As for update files; you can either use Firmware Finder app to download them to phone, then rename them to what the thread says (update_data_full_public.zip to update_data_public.zip and hw zip to update_all_hw.zip). Or you can use the site http://pro-teammt.ru/firmware-database/
There you just search for the update, BLA-L29C432, then click on the File list link in the FullOTA row. Copy paste links there into a new tab and download, then rename files and transfer to phone.
To get TWRP to stick, place the TWRP image in the same folder as you have HuRupdater.zip script and rename it to recovery.img, then it will flash it back after it has done update.

No need to unroot. You will, however, need to flash Magisk again after update as ramdisk is replaced with stock one.

Thanks. Please let me know if these steps should work. I am currently NOT rooted and my bootloader is locked. I do have my bootloader code. I'm currently rebranded to USA BLA-A09 (C567) from using funkyhuawei. Originally my phone is Europe BLA-L29 (C432)
Step 1. If I use funkyhuawei (I have that unlimited account for this phone) and rebrand from USA BLA-A09 (C567) back to my original BLA-L29 (C432) and then get the OTA to the latest build .142 everyone is raving about. That is simple part. USA brand is very far behind all other countries with updates....
Step 2. Do I use DCunlocker to unlock bootloader or is it just a command in fastboot mode that I issue?
Step 3. Root the phone (what tool should I use) as I need to modify the build.prop file to allow for VoLTE to work on T-MOBILE in the USA. I found this guide for volte to work -- it seems there are instructions to root in this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-10/how-to/guide-enable-volte-icon-mobile-network-t3764826
Then can I unroot the phone and if I do so, will my modifications to the build.prop file remain? Or do I need to keep it rooted?
Lastly, will the phone pass safetynet if bootloader unlocked and the phone is rooted?
Appreciate any assistance and guidance and thank you.

1. Yes, that is fine.
2. Huawei stated they will close down the service, but I *think* it's the service to get the unlock code, not the ability to unlock the bootloader. This may change in future updates, but until then you can just unlock using 'fastboot oem unlock code_here' command (This wipes /data so make sure to backup stuff)
3. Basically you just flash TWRP (https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-10/development/huawei-mate-10-pro-twrp-3-2-1-0-t3769904), then flash Magisk (https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/beta-magisk-v13-0-0980cb6-t3618589). The current beta of Magisk is a little buggy so you can just flash the stable one (16.0). Buggy being that Magisk Manager closes down when you open it, it can be countered by clearing data of Magisk Manager through Settings -> Apps.
Magisk will pass SafetyNet in most cases. Some builds are not yet certified by Google so they won't pass (b142 passes fine), it usually takes 1-2 weeks after they release on http://pro-teammt.ru before they pass.
If you want to unroot you can use Magisk Uninstaller, it's available in the release thread.
And if you want stock recovery you can just flash back stock from fastboot after you've installed Magisk.
Though there's no need to unroot since SafetyNet will pass. And if you only want to replace build.prop you could do it from TWRP. Bootloader needs to stay unlocked though, and I'm not sure if Safetynet passes with a modified build.prop (but it should I guess).
And! Magisk supports modules, so you could just make one that enables VoLTE (by passing the prop using 'resetprop') without needing to modify build.prop at all.
Understand the update official mechanism
Hello guys...
I need to know the mechanism how Huawei mobile device being updated, using SD card if it's possible with new model or can I manually get the update packages link, download them and how to inject them into the device, because the update come with three zip files.
If any one knows clear way please feed me back.
Thanks in advance...

Can't downgrade from EMUI 9

Hi everyone,
When EMUI 9 was first released on Firmware Finder, I've updated my phone with HuRupdate, since then, my phone model has changed from STF-L09C432 to
STF-LGRP2-OVS, since then, I'm stuck with the build 9.0.1.157, even though I've tried many time to flash another update or go back to EMUI 8 but I never managed to do it. I've tried with official recoveries, dload folder and it always failed, I've also tried flashing with TWRP, ADB, HWOTA or even MultiTool 8, but it never changed. Last time I tried flashing Kernel I've got an error saying that the file doesn't match the size or the path of the Partition. Have I done something wrong? Will I ever be Able to go back to EMUI 8? And If I ever manage to do it, Will I be able to receive official updates? I've seen that EMUI 9.1 was released as I saw a Honor 9 Lite with it and I want to upgrade to it as soon as possible
I'd be thankful if anyone can answer one of these questions!
I have Honor 9 STF-Al 10, with the System Emui 9.0.1.179
Due to some bugs, i intend to downgrade to Oreo.
it is said the phone will be hard brick by the method of HuRupdater.
the only way to downgrade to Oreo from Emui9 is Hisuite.
I heard about the HiSuite method, but when I go in the update menu it only tells me that i'm using the latest official version (which is wrong), and it doesn't show me any "switch to other version" button to downgrade the phone

should use the proper Hisuite version on PC (mine is 9.0.2.301)
there is an option to switch to Oreo
I'm using the same one, is it written somewhere which version is the right one or do I have to try and retry each version?

you mean that your Hisuite is 9.0.2.301,
but still no option to switch to older Emui?
Exactly!
Not sure about If I should edit or double post but I thought that it also might be because my phone is Unlocked?
Wow I got exactly the same issue! Also STF-LGRP2-OVS but 162. No chance to downgrade!
I would be also fine with flashing a "normal" L09C432 version of EMUI but don't know how to..
Maybe if someone can post a TWRP Backup of EMUI 8.0 with no user data it could work since we can still have access to TWRP

Firstly I'm gonna try to go back to a normal version, not this OVS crap. Maybe if you go to a normal STF-L09 Rom, Hisuite is offering you a rollback?
I don't even know how to do that to be honest. Shouldn't it be possible just with fastboot and a FF rom?

You tried to flash the EMUI 8 rom directly, right? I would firstly flash a "regular" (no OVS) EMUI 9 Rom and then try to roll back with HiSuite. I'm probably gonna end up with flashing the regular EMUI 9, lock the Bootloader and sell that crappy phone to get a flashfriendly Xiaomi

Be super careful downgrading to oreo because android P has rollback protection. I would recommend contacting HiCare and asking them to put you on EMUI 9.1. Although it's not a downgrade you might recieve and upgrade via OTA

use a dload meant for C432 with a build version superior of the one you actually are.
Try https://androidhost.ru/TTy
use a working SD or usb-otg ExFAT formated

Question Mix 4 CN Rom To EU Rom questions..

Hi all, have a few questions that might seem daft to some but need to get my head around it.
I have my Mix 4 and its obviously running the CN Rom. It is littered with bugs and there are many features that do not work or just missing, to the point where i could not use it as my daily driver in its current form.
Ive been reading up on flashing the EU Odin rom, and see alot of the issues are already fixed in it.
So after 4 hours of faffing i have managed to request a bootloader unlock. and i understand this will be a full wipe and reinstall.
This is my first question 8 days wait!
1: how do I keep an eye on the time left?
2: I have what i think are all the files ready to go to flash, but i understand this is done through fastboot?
3: So no OTA updates after this i would have to keep reflashing manually.?
4: I here something about TWRP that would enable this, but dont quite understand the process, or where do the updates then come from?
5: Are there any security issues like running Banking applications after unlocking, as i think it plays with security issues.
Hope someone with better understanding can help.
Hi...
1) I use my calendar to see when the time is right to resume the unlocking process
2) there's tutorial for this ...
[ROM][MIUI][odin] Xiaomi.eu ROM for Xiaomi MIX 4
How to install Xiaomi.eu ROM for Xiaomi MIX 4 We will release fastboot ROM versions until TWRP for odin is released Steps to install xiaomi.eu ROM for first time from China ROM (All your data and files on internal storage will be deleted!) -...
forum.xda-developers.com
3) yes... no OTAs from within the system, but ...
4) with TWRP you can flash the updates. You need to check,if the update-files are marked 'fastboot' or 'recovery'(TWRP)
5) Can't answer that one.
Good Luck.
Ok thanks for your help, still deciding to take the plunge or not, expensive bit of kit. Awhile to decide i guess.
so sorry another question, if we do this one withough twrp, can we just updat or is it a complete flash again?

Updating through TWRP should leave your apps and data intact.
Edit:It was way to early to answer the question... without twrp, only fastboot is possible as far as i know. When i used fastboot, i made a complete clean flash.
So once you have done it through fastboot you can use TWRP thereafter, thats cool.
I believe a CN to EU is a data wipe anyway.

If you have TWRP available...
Ok guys managed to unlock my phone and flash the rom, all seemed ok untill it started updating my apps, and then gets stuck on app 8 of 144 and just will never progress?.
It seems i have somehow flashed a slightly older rom, so going to reflash with the latest, but i dont want to do fastboot again as i have to keep manually updating, is there a twrp yet?

Did you follow ALL instructions of the tutorial? How exactly did you proceed?
I think I accidentally tried to restore a google backup from my old phone, guess there was an app it didnt like, anyway reflashed to 21.9.8 and all is going well, amazing improvement over the original. very pleased.
Been having a play and only found 1 issue as yet, when you lock an open app in recents, you can still swipe it away?.

Thanks for replying. Did you have to do anything special like Magisk hide to hide that you rooted the phone?
Im not rooted, just running custom rom. I have no need to root.
What if I want to go from EU to CN? Bought the phone. It came with EU rom. But I would like to install the official rom.

How To Guide Downgrade US OEM (DE2117) Android 12 firmware to Android 11 BEFORE installing Lineage!

Lineage installation on N200 REQUIRES that you are running Android 11 or phone will soft loop after installing the Lineage boot.img
If you are updated to Android 12 firmware and want to install Lineage, you MUST downgrade first to:
DE2117 OEM Android 11 FINAL OTA
WARNING: This WILL erase all user data.
1. Place the firmware .zip file in the user root of internal phone storage.
2. Sideload OnePlus firmware Downgrade Tool on phone and use tool to flash the Android 11 firmware.
There is an Emergency Firmware install tool that OnePlus posted to the OP forum that does NOT check root status when the need to downgrade back to A11 was first acknowledged due to modem issue with first A12 OTA release.
This file was removed in a few days when they posted the official Downgrade tool replaced it.
I have used this tool to upgrade DE2117 C_16 to DE2117 C_17 while rooted and the built in upgrade tool failed at 37%.
Nice, first thanks for the hard work you're putting in. Second, is there an advantage to converting first to DE2117 then installing lineage as opposed to just installing lineage from DE2118 that you know of? I know in the other post you answered my other question stating that the Lineage will install on either so I wasn't sure if I'd get any benefit from starting over and converting my DE2118. TIA

Lineage is using own kernel and boot.img on A11 so in the short run it is not going too make any difference, but when Lineage moves forward to A12 the OEM Firmware has newer drivers and is updated sooner, has more OEM features and bugfixes as well as no carrier bloatware.
It is possible that OP will neuter the Carrier firmware with an OTA update to prevent cross flashing device away from the Carrier rom in the next OTA update by preventing fastbootd from flashing the us oem from a carrier phone.
They have already removed fastboot boot command to boot a boot image without flashing it for test before you flash and to allow Magisk to make a backup of the original boot.img before adding Magisk.
I would convert NOW, before they decide to slam the door on this ability with a future OTA that will not allow you to downgrade and prevent this as they are under contract with the carriers to not allow this to be done.
Ok, thank you for the explanation. Guess I'll back everything up and convert it.

This worked perfectly after following your convert guide and upgrading to 12. Downgraded back to 11 so I could install lineageOS. Thanks again!
This reddit post has a link to an English version of the downgrade apk which makes it a little easier.

Did you remove root (Restore boot.img) and then factory reset?
You will loose all data doing this anyway.
I m trying as well .. but stuck with verification failed message just as scanman0 I m on stock android12 no root if anyone know how to fix it ... please assit
I just downgraded. Make sure you remove root via magisk. Then proceed to rollback to Android 11. Everything worked fine. I'll install lineage tonight when I get home.

I did not have to remove root. I used the version posted that does not check for root but maybe there's a different reason.
Does the downgrade apk have to be sideloaded via ADB?

Just place apk in phones working directory, same path where your downloads folder is. Then install from there like any other apk and run. I also kept the FW file in the same directory but I'm not sure if that was necessary.
So, just to confirm, I press "local install" and select the firmware zip and it closes? Is the tool supposed to do anything else or am I good to flash LineageOS?

Ummm if I remember correctly hit local install and then it will prompt to point towards which FW to use. After you hit it, it will go back to the previous screen, I think verify and unpack it, then install it. Mine did appear like it was doing nothing after picking the FW and so I picked again which screwed things up so just wait after picking, it should start.
After its done it will give a message saying to restart phone I think for it to take effect, then after you restart it should ask to wipe phone, then restart again and you'd be in A11 presumably. Once in A11 your good to follow the normal procedure to install Lineage. This is all from memory though so I MAY have missed something but I don't think I did.

When you say "screwed things up" what do you mean? How did it effect the install?

Nothing major, caused the UI to glitch out and made it seem like the process was stuck at 81% but when I closed the app and tried to do it again it jumped to 100 and said to restart the device.
I've downgraded a second time (I'm very indecisive on which OS I want to use) and that one went as expected since I knew to give it a second to start doing its thing.

Weird, for me it just closes the app and does nothing, both the official and emergency ones. I even tried adding it to magisk's deny-list.
But I just restored the boot image via magisk (didn't restart) and it works now...

Yes I factory restored the phone and tried again. Still fails every time
Has anybody had any luck figuring out the verification failed message? I too have tried both the official and emergency apps, of course I can't read the actual message in what I presume is Chinese, but it doesn't do anything and the other version says verification failed. Have not rooted. Kind of at a loss right now and all I want to do is install Lineage! I've already got my unlock token from OnePlus, but my understanding is that the phone still needs to be on A11 before installling Lineage.
