[ROM][AL00][4/1/19] Mate 20 X GlobAL00ized 1.6 (fw 200) [Debloated][Mostly Deodexed] - Huawei Mate 20 X ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, & Othe

Welcome to the Mate 20 X GlobAL00ized project. This ROM's goal is to transform your Chinese AL00 into a global device. We accomplish this by magic. What does this do? Well, it enables google location services, google pay, and many other global huawei device features. This was a joint venture between myself, @cflynt, and @antiochasylum. It's about as close to a rebrand as you'll get without an actual "rebrand."

Requirements:
TWRP
Know how to boot into TWRP
Recommendations:
Be decrypted
A factory reset for first time users
Magisk installed to recovery_ramdisk
A backup of your system, preload, product, version, and vendor partitions. Not necessary as erecovery can restore your device, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.
Changelog in the second post
Update instructions in third post
Installation steps:
Step 1:
Copy ROM zip to your device.
Step 2:
Boot into TWRP
Step 3:
Factory reset from TWRP if this is your first time flashing.
Step 4:
Install ROM. This will take quite a while (3-5 minutes) to flash, as the system image is over 4GB in size.
Step 5:
Use the "reboot" and "recovery" option in TWRP.
Step 6:
Rejoice!

Notes to be aware of
Google Pay does not, nor has ever liked ROOT. Nor do pretty much any pay type apps. So make sure you use Magisk Manager, and click on the 3 lines in the top left corner and select Magisk Hide and scroll down to Google Pay and check that to make sure it is hidden from Root. Otherwise you will run into issue. Someone said they also had to hide Google Services Framework. So you might want to hide that as well. In my tests of using Google Pay, I didn't have to do that, but it isn't gonna hurt anything.
Smart Lock might need you to re-train your voice in order to work on the phone if it recognized you had already trained it from previous devices. My guess is to make sure it is more secure from the phone. So you might go into Google Assistant and do that before setting up Smart Lock as your unlock ability if that is your chosen path.
Updating to the latest version of EMUI Software
This is a tad extensive, but mainly just lots of info to try and answer any questions anyone might have. I promise it is much easier than all the text shows. Just read through it and you will see there really isn't that much to do.
I do recommend, just as a precaution, that you do a full nandroid backup in TWRP before doing any type of update. This just covers bases. If you go into TWRP and select BACKUP and make sure all Partitions are selected and then Swipe to Backup. It will store a full backup of all partitions on your Internal Storage. You can then transfer this over to your PC for safe keeping.
Step 1: Go ahead and download and transfer ALL of the following to your Internal Storage. All files are linked at the bottom of this post except the latest ROM which is in the first post. The latest ROM, the latest Update Full Base Zip, the EMUI Flasher, the Patched TWRP Image and lastly the Current Magisk Recovery Ramdisk Image. You will need all these files here in a bit. I recommend you save the TWRP image as twrp.img for easier use shortly.
Step 2: Next, we want to run the EMUI Flasher from the phone. Make sure you are plugged into Power or the PC via USB. Run the app, it SHOULD prompt you, if this is the first time you have ran the app, to grant ROOT permissions, as well as to download some Asset files. Just select Confirm. IF, it did not. go ahead and exit the app and close it out. Run Magisk first and then hit HOME and run the app again so that it prompts. Next, tap the Select button at the top right for #1 Firmware File, and Allow the permissions to allow it access your file system. Find the update_full_base.zip file you downloaded and transferred to the phone earlier. Tap to select it. You don't need to worry about #2 right now, if they push another patch later, I might update this to observe that. But currently we only have the one push. Now tap the RED Circle at the bottom right with the Down Arrow in it. This will reboot into Recovery and flash the update. NOTE: As soon as it is done Flashing, it will reboot, you will want to be ready to hold the Volume DOWN key to boot into Bootloader Mode.
Step 3: Now that we are in the Bootloader. We want to Flash the TWRP Image over to the Recovery Ramdisk. So type the following:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk
twrp.img
You should get an output similar to the following:
target reported max download size of 471859200 bytes
sending 'recovery_ramdisk' (24956 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.627s]
writing 'recovery_ramdisk'...
OKAY [ 0.175s]
finished. total time: 0.805s
Type:
Code:
fastboot reboot
To reboot the phone, then immediately unplug the USB Cable from the Phone. We want to immediately hold VOLUME UP to boot into TWRP Recovery. Until it says NOW BOOTING.
Step 4: Next we want to flash the current ROM you downloaded earlier. Tap on INSTALL at the top Left. Browse to where you placed the current ROM and tap on it. Swipe to confirm Flash.
Step 5: Now that the ROM has flashed successfully hopefully, we want to go ahead and flash the Magisk Recovery Ramdisk back on the Recovery Ramdisk. Hit BACK to get back to the main menu, tap on INSTALL at the top left, then INSTALL IMAGE at the bottom right. Locate your recovery_ramdiskMagiskAL00.img you downloaded and transferred to your Internal Storage earlier. Tap on it. Now find and tap on Recovery Ramdisk to select it. Lastly, Swipe to confirm Flash.
Step 6: Lastly, we want to put TWRP back on the eRecovery Ramdisk since most likely the Software update overwrote it. Hit BACK till you get back to the main menu, tap on INSTALL at the top left, then INSTALL IMAGE at the bottom right. Locate your twrp.img you downloaded and transferred to your Internal Storage earlier. Tap on it. Now find and tap on eRecovery Ramdisk to select it. Lastly, Swipe to confirm Flash.
That is it, hit BACK to get back to the main menu. Make sure to UNPLUG from any USB Device. Select REBOOT and then REBOOT RECOVERY to boot your system with the Magisk Recovery Ramdisk. It will probably take a little longer the first boot due to the software update and converting some files.
Enjoy the latest software!
Updating to the latest version of EMUI Software w/out using EMUI Flasher
This is for those that seem to have trouble using the EMUI Flasher for whatever reason. It has worked for us as well as many others that have tested it over and over, so not quite sure what the trouble is, but regardless, here is the older style instructions for those that do have difficulties with that flasher. Hopefully it helps ya get things updated that way.
Step 1: Download the latest ROM from the 1st post, the Stock eReocvery, TWRP Image and the Magisk Recovery Ramdisk Image all from the bottom of this post if you don't already have them and transfer them to your Internal Storage. You will also need a copy of the TWRP image wherever you keep your ADB directory for fastboot later.
Step 2: We now want to boot into TWRP to flash the Stock eRecovery. Plug your phone into a USB Device, either PC or Power and Reboot holding the VOLUME UP. KEEP holding even when it prompts for the eRecovery Menu, release when it says it is NOW BOOTING at the bottom.
Once in TWRP, tap on INSTALL at the top left and then INSTALL IMAGE at the bottom right. Locate your Stock eRecovery Image you downloaded and transferred to your Internal Storage earlier and select it. Next, select the eRecovery Ramdisk Partition to restore to. Lastly Swipe to confirm Flash.
Step 3: Now we want to Reboot into the Stock eRecovery, so with your Phone plugged into a USB Device, back out and select REBOOT and SYSTEM, hold VOLUME UP. KEEP holding even when it prompts for the eRecovery Menu, release when it says it is NOW BOOTING at the bottom.
Once in eRecovery. select to Download latest version. It might prompt you to enter your Wifi Credentials. It will possibly prompt about it wiping all your data. From our experience, this has never happened. But good thing you did a backup earlier right!? Once it is done downloading and installing the latest update. It will go through a verification. You obviously will have the time, but just be prepared for when it prompts that it will be rebooting. You will want to then hold the VOLUME DOWN button so that we boot into BOOTLOADER MODE. We need to catch it before the system boots up and re-encrypts the data partition. So just be mindful of the percentage it is at. Then you will have like 10 seconds when it says it will be rebooting. Right when it starts to reboot, hold that VOLUME DOWN until you are in BOOTLOADER MODE.
Step 4: Once in BOOTLOADER MODE, change to your ADB Directory unless you have it set in your path. Now we will want to flash the Magisk Recovery Ramdisk back as well as TWRP to the eRecovery Ramdisk. First, we need to get back into TWRP so type the following:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk twrp.img
This will flash TWRP to the Recovery Ramdisk temporarily. We now need to boot into TWRP so that we can put everything where it belongs. We aren't able to use fastboot to write to eRecovery. So type:
Code:
fastboot reboot
IMMEDIATELY unplug your USB Device and then hold VOLUME UP until it says NOW BOOTING at the bottom. Once in TWRP, tap on INSTALL at the top left and then INSTALL IMAGE at the bottom right. Locate your Magisk Recovery Ramdisk Image you transferred to your Internal Storage and select it. Next, select the Recovery Ramdisk Partition. Lastly, Swipe to confirm Flash. Now hit back, all the way to the menu to be safe. Once again, select INSTALL at the top left and then INSTALL IMAGE at the bottom right. Locate your TWRP Image and select it. Next, select the eRecovery Ramdisk Partition this time. Lastly, Swipe to confirm Flash.
Step 5: Now that Recoveries are where they belong once again, and you are on the current release of software, we need to flash the current ROM you downloaded and transferred to the Internal Storage earlier. Back out to the main menu. Select INSTALL at the top left, locate the ROM you downloaded and select it. Swipe to confirm Flash.
Step 6: If all flashed ok and everything is good, make sure you are unplugged from any USB Device, back out to the main menu and select REBOOT and then REBOOT RECOVERY to boot your device. All should come up as it should.
Huawei Dialer
For those that aren't fans of the Google Dialer, I am not sure why, but whatever floats your boat. Google Dialer has Video, has Spam and Blocking just like the Huawei Dialer does, only thing missing is the Call Recorder option which can be added by 3rd party, and I'd much rather have video capability. Regardless, it was requested. We have included the flash at the bottom. You can flash it in TWRP. Once flashed, you will need to go into SETTINGS and then into APPS and then into DEFAULT APPS, and set your PHONE APP to reflect the proper dialer you wish. The flash actually removes the Google Dialer from the system, but it won't remove any Google updates that have been done, so most likely it will still show up in the system. So just make those changes and it will now be your default dialer for incoming/outgoing. Enjoy. Note: All ROMS will ALWAYS come with the Google Dialer. You will have to flash this ZIP anytime we do a ROM update if you wish to use the Huawei Dialer. Keep that in mind moving forward.
Google Dialer
For those that flashed the Huawei Dialer and wish to return back to the Google Dialer can download the Zip at the bottom of this post. You will flash it the same way as you did the Huawei zip in TWRP. This will remove the Huawei Dialer from your phone and put the Google Dialer back in the system. It should become your default, but just in case any updates happened that downloaded anything out of our control you can double check your default apps. Go into SETTINGS and then into APPS and then into DEFAULT APPS, and set your PHONE APP to reflect the proper dialer, in case 2 show up there. Note: You will only need to flash this if you are wanting to return to the Google Dialer from flashing the Huawei Dialer. All ROMS come with the Google Dialer and always will. So this is the only time you will have to mess with it.

Best rom to best phone from best dev freeza

Running great bro. Good work

Great job guys!!!
Now I really need to get an unlock code.

Sweeeeeeettt! Nicely done fellas. Just need to get unlock code now.

Can people who have installed this confirm that notifications are working properly or do we need to go through the multiple steps to disable smart notifications, lock the app, etc, etc...
I can confirm even with the modified ROM, googlepay does not work for me. My american express won't confirm. I'm in Canada for reference and the same card works on my L29 phone. Also, using the A&W (fast food franchise) app won't load coupons because it thinks I'm not in the area even though I granted the app permission to locations.

I haven't disabled anything and get notifications all day long. But it is possible you will still have to do the usual power management notifications, we can't do that for you. That is gonna be an app per app thing. But all my typical notifications like messaging, hangouts, etc have all come through without modification.

I don't have an American Express, nor do I live in Canada, but it added and confirmed my Visa card without issue, and I even sent a test transaction with no issue. I don't personally use Google Pay, so I haven't taken it to a store to make a purchase, but I can only assume that if it sends transactions after the confirmation, that it works fine. Did you actually use Magisk Hide and hide the app? It is an app that won't like root.

does this need the unlocked bootloader?

Yes it does

I did some more tinkering and got Google pay working. Before doing anything, I enabled magisk hide on Google services framework before trying to enable the cards. Got confirmation this time.
Still can't get A&W app to find me. It thinks I'm on the west coast for some reason.

There are many threads on the general section of this forum as to where to purchase a code. This is a ROM thread not an unlocking thread. :good:

First, thanks for getting this out!!! Everything is working so far for me. Anyway to remove the Chinese below the time/date on the lock screen?

The Chinese text on the lock screen is due to the preloaded themes magazine unlock comes with. In the new ROM magazine unlock isn't present so no Chinese text should appear. Did you format data in TWRP when installing or just wiped system?

I definitely did a format... I had to type "yes" to perform the format. Is there a way to remove magazine unlock without formatting and installing the rom again?

Note app
Thanks for this. It is smooth. However, I bought the M-Pen and now the note app that comes up at the home screen is now gone. Can someone help with the apk? Thanks.

[NC][1.4.1][1.4.2][1.4.3] ManualNooter 5.08.20

THIS IS FOR 1.4.1, 1.4.2, and 1.4.3 ONLY - Please don't quote the first post.
As of October 31 2013, the Nook Color with Froyo is dead in the water, as far as the Google Play store is concerned. Google updated to Google Play Services 4.0, and with it killed off the API support for Android 2.2 Froyo. That means that almost all apps being produced or updated since then will not support Froyo. If you look up Angry Birds on the Play Store website, you will see that the minimum system requirements are Android 2.3 and up.
What it does:
Permanently Enable ADB via uRamdisk
Installs adbWireless
Installs su and Superuser.apk
Installs Busybox
Installs Softkeys
Installs Zeam Launcher
Installs B&N HomeLauncher
Installs HomeCatcher
Installs NookColor Tools (To Enable Non-Market Installs)
Installs Live Wallpapers
Installs Custom Boot Animation
Fix to Allow update to Adobe Flash and Air
App Auto Install (Open up manualnooter-5.xx.xx.zip from sdcard drop in /data/app)
System Files that get Modified:
uRamdisk - Enable permanent ADB Access
/system/build.prop - Fingerprint change
download.db - Fixes Market "Download Unsuccessful" issues
services.jar - Fixes apps2sd
Changes:
August 20, 2012 -
Updated Adobe Flash to version 11.1.111.10
Moved Adobe Air from the Data partition, to the System partition. This is to fix the "Read-To-Me" playback error.
Fixed the missing text in the "NookColor Tools" app
Introduced versions that disable B&N updates, by utilizing the SQLite method
Introduced incremental updates, so that you can flash only the changes that were made in the upgrade
manualnooter-5.08.20.incremental.zip - This will make the changes from manualnooter-5.02.19 to manualnooter-5.08.20. It doesn't block B&N updates.
manualnooter-5.08.20.incremental_block_updates.zip - This will make the changes from manualnooter-5.02-19 to manualnooter-5.08.20. It will Block B&N updates
February 19, 2012 - Fixed script that deleted the kernel image, and left you stuck at "Read Forever"
February 12, 2012 - Initial release
Before you begin:
You must do a complete wipe before installing this package.
If you want to update to 1.4.3 - Instructions HERE
You must already have a registered Nook Color
YOU MUST DOWNLOAD ALL YOUR B&N CONTENT BEFORE YOU CONTINUE, OR YOU RUN THE RISK OF LOSING ALL ACCESS TO B&N CONTENT
You must have a Google Account, for Gmail, Market, Etc. IF you used a Gmail account for B&N Registration use that one for this process.
You must have a bootable ClockWorkMod version 3.2.0.1 SD card: HERE - Use Win32DiskImager to flash this image to your SD card LINK
OR emmc CWM Recovery Installed
You must have enough intelligence to follow instructions.
If you don't have enough posts to post in the development section, please go post in the Q&A section, and post with "MN5" in the heading. I don't read every post on this board, so I can get to you a little easier if you follow these guidelines.
Let's get started:
If you're running a previous MN 5, you do not need to do a complete wipe.
Download one of the Following ManualNooter 5 files based on your needs:
manualnooter-5.08.20.basic.zip - It doesn't include apps2sd support, and doesn't block B&N updates. Doesn't replace any system files
manualnooter-5.08.20.basic.block_updates.zip - It doesn't include apps2sd support, but has B&N updates blocked. Doesn't replace any system files
manualnooter-5.08.20.apps2sd.zip - Includes apps2sd support, but doesn't block B&N updates. It will replace a system file, making it firmware version specific
manualnooter-5.08.20.apps2sd.block_updates.zip - Includes apps2sd support, and has B&N updates blocked. It will replace a system file, making it firmware version specific.
If you will be flashing with apps2sd support, you will also need to download one of the following kernel images to fully utilize apps2sd support.
Dalingrin OC kernel - Dalingrin 090111 OC kernel
OR Stock kernel - Stock. kernel with apps2sd support
Copy above file(s) onto your bootable CWM SD card using Windows Explorer, OS X Finder, etc.
DO NOT extract the zip file. It MUST be left as-is
DO NOT copy the zip file into a folder. Leave it at the top directory of your card.
Unplug your Nook Color from computer. (If plugged in)
Turn off your Nook Color. (If turned on)
Insert bootable CWM SD card with ManualNooter into your Nook Color.
Turn on your Nook Color
If using bootable CWM SD card this should boot you directly into recovery
If using emmc CWM Recovery instead of SD card CWM Recovery, boot to recovery.
When CWM boots select:
install zip from sdcard (Volume down 4 times, then n)
choose zip from sdcard (Volume down 1 time, then n)
manualnooter-5.xx.xx.zip (Hit volume up until you get to it, then n)
Confirm that you really want to run the update
Selecting this indicates that you take responsibility for your own actions.
Wait patiently and follow onscreen directions
If you flashed apps2sd file, now would be the time to flash the kernel for full support.
Remove bootable CWM card from Nook Color and select reboot
If you get "Install Failed" after rebooting out of CWM this can be normal. Just reboot again.
After reboot and unlocking your device select Zeam Launcher.
Open up Market and Accept Terms and Service/Sign In.
Exit out of the market, wait a couple minutes for Gapps to sync everything up, and market to update
When the market icon has changes, open it again to accept terms of conditions again for the updated market.
You may not have to Accept Terms and Service or Sign In if you're updating from a previous MN version.
If you made it this far your nook should be successfully Rooted.
Enable Non-Market Installs by running the Nook Color Tools App.
Uncheck the top box, then recheck the box again
(OPTIONAL) To restore the SD card to a "usable" state
Insert bootable CWM card into Nook Color
Go to Settings > Device Info > SD card > UnMount > Format
This will wipe your SD card of all MN/CWM bootable abilities. If you use this you will have to reflash the SD card for future MN releases if you don't flash CWM to your emmc.
If you are upgrading from manualnooter-5.01.21, or earlier:
You need to perform the market limited visibility steps found below
If the market dies on you after performing those steps:
Go into manage applications
Select Market
Uninstall updates
Open market and accept user agreement
Exit market to let it update itself
Open market and accept user agreement

update_disable.zip - You can also download, and flash this using CWM at any time to block B&N updates.
update_enable.zip - If you need to unblock B&N updates at any time, you can flash this file using CWM to restore the update function.
Can I change the stock keyboard -
Yes, some of the best known keyboard apps have all been tested to work. Just follow these directions to install the keyboard.
If you don't have the paid app "Root Explorer," you can download the free app "ES File Explorer." Once you open "ES File Explorer," you will need to go into settings to set root access, mount file system, and change the home directory to "/"
Download/Install the keyboard that you want to use from the market or Amazon Appstore
Open your explorer app, and navigate to /data/app
Locate the apk file for the keyboard that you just installed
Examples: com.touchtype.swiftkey-1.apk or com.swype.android.inputmethod-1.apk
Long press on the apk file, and select "Move" or "Cut"
Navigate to /system/app
If using Root Explorer, select "Mount R/W"
Now select paste to move the apk file into the /system/app folder
Exit your explorer app, and reboot the device
After the device reboots, open the app "NookColor Tools"
Select "Choose Keyboard" and select the keyboard that you just installed
If installing Swiftkey or Swype, you can now open the app to finish the install process
I did this mod from a request in another thread, LINK. It is a port of “revcompgeek’s” work under the Nook tablet section, HERE. The mod removes the QuickNav bar when you presss the n button, making it like a standard home button, and makes the back and menu buttons permanent.
I did not include it in the MN package because I am not sure how many people would want it, and it has not been tested long enough. Just simply flash the Statusbar_mod.zip file with CWM, it will take about 5 minutes to boot back up after flashing since it is a framework file. You will need to use the app “AnyCut” or “BetterCut” to create a link to the “Shop” and “Library.” If you don’t like it, simply flash the Statusbar_stock.zip file to return to stock. If you flash a new version of MN 5 after applying the Statusbar_mod.zip, you will need to reapply the Statusbar_mod.zip file again to regain it.
*UPDATE*
I noticed that "AnyCut" is currently missing from the market, and since the app was free in the market, I have attached it below.
Great!
Are there any of the limitations I've read about (read-to-me, free in-store reading) with regards to rooting 1.4.1, or are those now worked around?

Around 4,000 people have kindly tested different versions over the last two months, and everything should be working properly. The key step to follow in the directions, is step 4 under “Before you begin,” You must download all your B&N content before you continue, or you run the risk of losing all access to B&N content.
I don’t remember there ever being an issue with read-to-me, I remember there being touchscreen issues with kids books in the early versions of MN 4. A handful of people did test the in-store reading function, and reported that it worked fine.
Absolutly amazing! Thank you!
Dalingrin 090111 OC kernel with manualnooter-5.02.12.zip
I don't need apps2sd. Can I use manualnooter-5.02.12.zip and then install Dalingrin 090111 OC kernel?

That should work fine, it's what I had before the apps2sd release.

I tested read to me this morning using Tales of Peter Rabbit. It worked just fine.
success!
This is how I got 1.4.1 going from BN1.3 with MN:
I am running BN1.3 with MN4.6.16. I have CWM 3.0.2.8 on a bootable sd and have made a backup.
Instead of restoring to stock and then upgrading to 1.4.1, I I used the 1.4.1 image from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21203895&postcount=129 and then apply MN5.02.12
Before install 1.4.1, I wipe/data and /cache then install 1.4.1.
Did another wipe/data.
Since I have an old NC with the 5gb partition, I can continue to use CWM 3.0.2.8.
After rooting BN1.4.1, if I am unhappy, I can just restore my old BN1.3 backup.

I had been following the thread about the 1.3 firmware, and I saw the pre-releases for the 1.4.1 firmware had some issues. I'm thrilled this will work--maybe my wife will let me "borrow" her nook now

Probably want to get the multiupload mirror in this post instead... rapidshare has gone horrible as of late... IMHO of course.
Works like a charm!! Thanks very much! Question for you guys: In your opinion what is the best way to block OTA updates?

I'm not a guy, but here's what I used. I should add, I used it to stay on 1.3. It tells whoever is looking that you're on 1.4.1. I guess it'll have to be updated if B & N comes out with another update.
Market Not Loading
Everything went perfectly with the MN'ing, but when I try to go to Market, Gmail, Talk, etc, the NC tries to open Market or Google service but then immediately closes. Many attempts yield same results. Any ideas are welcomed.

To block OTA updates, I used SQLite Editor with the instructions below from "Mark"
I can't find this post anywhere and have no idea where I got it, if you are Mark..THANK YOU! and post a link to the original so we can find you! <G>
Worked perfectly for me. I've attached the text file so you can save it instead of trying to read the forum, it takes a bit but not as much time as you'd think.
The $3 is well worth it!
:::This is a one-time thing, and doesn't require revising it as new updates come out, as some other methods do (e.g., pushing modified build.props files down). Those are completely free, but a fair bit more complicated, and have to be redone every time a new update is released by B&N.
1) Go to Extras, open the Android Market, tap on the magnifying glass, and search for SQLite Editor. It will cost you <$3.
You don't need the companion product, Root Explorer, at all, that others have mentioned, so you can save some $$$ if you want (4 bucks, I think). It's actually quicker not to even use Root Explorer.
2) Buy and install SQLite. If you're running auto-nootered, you'll need to shut your Nook off and restart it afterwards. That's because the Extras screen info is cached, and not updated dynamically, so you'll never see any newly loaded Apps until you reboot.
3) After powering back up, go to Extras and click on SQLite. It will scan your entire Nook and find every SQL database file there. Even the hidden ones. It only takes ~10 seconds.
4) Scroll down to DeviceManagerService, and tap on it. Then tap on devicemanager.db.
5) Tap on the "registry" entry. It's easier now if you rotate to landscape, so you can see more of the fields in each entry.
6) All the entries in this table start with "com.bn.device....". Look for the one that's labeled '...fota.mode" at the end.
7) In the far right Value column, you'll see "Auto". Tap on that to select it. Then go down to the Status Bar at the bottom, and tap the Menu button (3 horizontal lines), and pick Edit Field.
8) You'll then see a black screen with one entry, the field editing form. You should see the field name of "value" there, and its contents will be "auto". If it turned out that your selection picked some other field (they are pretty small!), don't panic! :smileywink: Just go back and retry until you get the right one.
9) Tap on "auto" and the keyboard will come up. Backspace to delete the current contents, and enter "manual" in its place. Then tap Done. Then tap Save. Until you tap Save, you've changed nothing, so poking about is fairly safe. You may see a message about granting super-user permissions, which is normal.
10) You can now exit out of SQLite if you like (it's not necessary), but you're not quite done yet, so don't enable WiFi immediately. To make sure that the system is using the settings you just modified, you need to force it to reload and "see" them. So just power you Nook off and back on. After it reboots, it will use your new settings from then on. That's it.
Walla! You're all set. Auto-updates will no longer be pushed down to your Nook. However, updates you manually sideload wll still work. If you decide at some point you'd like auto-updating to work again, just go back in and re-enable it by changing "manual" to "auto".
~~
While the length and detail of the instructions above may make this look like it's more complicated than it really is, I'd rather err of the side of accuracy than leave something "obvious" out. It really doesn't take more than 2 minutes to do, and most could probably figure it out on their own, if they really needed to. The one thing they might overlook is the need to reboot afterwards, which isn't necessarily obvious.

I flashed CWM to internal memory once I had everything to my liking.
From past experience this will block the OTA update.
It is a minor issue to flash back to stock in order to upgrade the next time B&N does an update.
This may not be the right way, but it is easy, a lot easier than other methods IMHO.
i upgraded to 1.4.1 but after i run manualnooter 5.02.12 i am just stuck at read forever screen on reboot.
Watching ABC.com show problems
Running BN1.4.1 with MN5 latest. The show NCIS comes through fine. But the ABC shows (eg Castle) causes the browser Dolphin HD to FC.
Any idea what is causing it?

[ROOT/ROM/DEV] Korean Galaxy Note Development and Support sharing

Read First: Thread created ONLY for Korean Galaxy Note (SHV-E160 S/K/L ver) users. ROOT, ROM or any developments posted here cannot be used for N7000 or I717 Galaxy note ver.
I am not responsible if you damaged or bricked your phone!! Use at your own risk!! I do not own nor created the developments posted here.
I created this thread to post the developments and support for our beloved Korean Galaxy Note as well as to compile the tutorials inside and outside XDA all in 1 thread.
Note: If you decide to share a recent development here, please specify/tag if applicable to all SHV models or specific model only (e.g, [e160 s/k/l] or [e160 S only]).
Basic Commands/terms:
1.)Download mode: Turn off the phone. When it’s completely turned off press [Volume down (-) + Home + Power]. Once you see the Korean text press Volume up (+).
2.) Recovery mode: Turn off the phone. When it’s completely turned off press [Volume up (+) + Volume down (-) + Home + Power]. You should see the recovery mode at the top of your LCD screen (either tegrak or clockworkmod recovery). To navigate, press Volume up or down and use the power button as your “enter/ok” button.
3.) ROOT – gaining admin access to your phone.
4.) Root File: Some were mislead by searching for a folder named “root”. “Root” is equivalent to /sdcard (not external sdcard or a folder named “root”). So when the instruction tells you to put a specific file to the root it means that you put it inside the /sdcard.
5.) Flash – the term “flash” in android’s world means “transfer”. When a guide tells you to “flash” partition, it implies that you transfer the contents to a partition (such as system, cache, data, boot, recovery etc…). There are different kinds of data you can flash such as recovery, rom, kernel etc. this can be done by using your PC/Laptop using ODIN for PC or Heimdall for mac or ROM Manager.
3.) Checking your Korean Galaxy note version- Korean galaxy notes have different versions and it depends with the Korean carrier. To check if you have either S/K/L go to settings > About phone. Also note your basedband version (UI24, UH24, F09 etc….).
Developments:
1.) Successful debrick of Korean Galaxy note. Thanks to darkspr1te and to the contributors. You can find his page here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1914359&page=10).
2.) ROOT- Before rooting your phone make sure you have upgraded to ICS 4.0.4. You can download Kies here (http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/) to upgrade or do it via phone by going to settings>about phone>system updates>check updates. Make sure your phone battery is at least over 50% . If you’re using a laptop, make sure the battery life is full or better plug it in. Don’t use a cheap cable. Please use the one you got from Samsung.
a) [e160 s/k/l] Root instructions by jairrab: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1924535) I used this one to root my phone because it's easy to follow especially for root virgins. However, the instructions does not include the Clockworkmod recovery (CWM) installation. Hence, do this AFTER successfully installing the Tegrak Recovery:
I.) Download CWM Recovery (v6.0.1) cwm.tar here (https://www.dropbox.com/s/cyitd4ce3jq0zb4/cwm.tar)
II.) Put the downloaded file to the root of the phone (/sdcard)
III.) Follow the same method you used when you installed the Tegrak Recovery.
b) [e160L only] Root instructions by mycatisether: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1775015) found some useful info here (removing sms limit etc…) that are applicable to all Korean GN models.
3.) Post ROOT developments:
a.)BACK UP! After rooting your phone I advised that you do a NANDROID back up first (requiment: CWM recovery see 2.a in development section). It is a complete back-up of your phone. So anytime you can go back to your phone’s last condition. Do the following to make a nandroid back up using the CWM recovery.
I.) Flash CWM recovery
II.) Go to recovery mode
III.) Navigate using volume up or volume down and select “back up and restore” press power key to enter.
IV.) You should be in back up menu now. Navigate and select back up and hit the power button again. This will take awhile. Be patient.
V.) Once the back-up is done, navigate to “reboot system now” and hit the power button.
VI.) After reboot. Go to /sdcard and copy the clockworkmod folder to a safe place.
b.) Custom ROM:1.) [e160 s/k/l] CM9 Stable – Requirements: Rooted phone with CWM recovery (see 2.a under development section above)1.a) Download the following files and put inside the root (do not unzip)
CM9 ROM (https://www.dropbox.com/s/aaz0k19ddz0xytz/cm-9.1.0-quincyskt-KUKJIN-RC2.1.zip)
Front camera fix (https://www.dropbox.com/s/zqcjeegm6wn8vk2/old_note_front-cam_RC2.1.zip)
Google App for CM9 (https://www.dropbox.com/s/65703m0trd38gii/gapps.zip)
1.b) After copying the files in the root go to recovery mode (how to go to recovery mode? Read above).
1.c) In recovery mode select > “wipe data/factory reset” and select yes. > select “wipe cache partition” and select yes. > select advance > wipe dalvik and select yes.
1.d) After step 1.c STAY IN RECOVERY MODE and install the files you downloaded IN ORDER. Go to > “install zip from SD card” > 1st install CM9 ROM (cm-9.1.0-quincyskt-KUKJIN-RC2.1.zip) > 2nd install camera fix (old_note_front-cam_RC2.1.zip) > lastly, install Google app (gapps.zip).
1.e) Reboot and enjoy! Do not install the Korean keyboard! Or you can just uninstall it.
I personally use this CM9 ROM and it runs perfectly! I have no issues with the sms, battery, camera etc… All Korean bloatwares gone. No Korean keypad. Can send over 1000+ characters.
I really recommend the “Cobalt” theme as it made the CM9 even more smoother and you can download it here for free (https://play.google.com/store/apps/...h_result&rdid=com.dustinb.theme.cobalt&rdot=1) then go to settings>themes>select cobalt (ignore the message does not contain assets etc…).
If your SMS limit is not fixed. Download GO SMS Pro or Handcent SMS in google play store. Use it as your main messaging app. It will solve the problem.
Some have issues with their touchscreens. To solve this you can go to dialer and dial >*#2663# (no need to press the call button). Click “Touch key FW update” then reboot.
2.) Other ROMs – with some research and the help of the Koreans, Chinese and Vietnamese I was able to locate the following ROMs. Please note that I have not tested these ROMs, as such I cannot guarantee if they are working properly (however, darkspr1te told us the he will test some ROMs and provide feedback – just to prevent hard/soft brick). Some ROMs I found have instructions, some do not have. I’ll post my source and you can just use google translate and read the instructions from Koreans, Chinese and Vietnamese websites. PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE TAGGING I MADE. (E.G., IF IT's TAGGED WITH [S/K/L] IT MEANS IT’S COMPATIBLE TO ANY KOREAN GN (SHV E160]. IF IT'S TAGGED WITH [L ONLY], IT MEANS IT’S ONLY APPLICABLE TO E160L GN VER. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Issues with cm9:
Engineer mode cannot be activated using the cm9 dialer.
No S settings support. so no s-memo or any s-app. but you can still use your s-pen. Use SMBX for drawings.
No gesture support.
S-Pen writing hand solution for CM9>>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1860384
Cm9 does not support S-pen apps and S-pen calibration. But it can still detect the pen.
However we have better alternatives and I personally use them even when I was still in touchwiz.
1.) SBMX - One of the best canvas app for galaxy note. (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ngarside.memo&hl=en)
2.) Memo - Much like the S-app but better (you can crop picts, map, etc..) (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ngarside.memo&hl=en).
3.) Papyrus - Much like an S-note.
for gestures download >>> GMD Gesture Control Lite - you get more gesture with this app compared to touchwiz gestures. (https://play.google.com/store/apps/...nb29kbW9vZGRyb2lkLmdlc3R1cmVjb250cm9sZGVtbyJd)
I personally find the alternatives better than the s-apps..... But really... I miss the double tap quick note of touchwiz.

swype thing is pretty cool.
Another Cm9 issue I noticed:
Installation failed for apps purchased from Google playstore. Only for apps that automatically install itself in the internal storage SD card. No problem for other apps that automatically install in internal storage.
Solution: unmount the external SD card and internal SD card then download and install the app from playstore. Once installed, mount the SD cards back and just transfer the app from internal storage to SD card.

b) [e160L only] Root instructions by mycatisether: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1775015) found some useful info here (removing sms limit etc…) that are applicable to all Korean GN models.

Hi dycz21,
First of all i appreciate your work for bringing out CM 9 ROM for our beloved E160S/L/K.
I've been waiting for this for a long time.
Gonna install it tonight.
As you have already installed this ROM, are there any other major issues other than S pen settings?
Anyways thanks again.

Installing apps from Playstore always failed for apps that automatically install in SD Card. Solution is unmount the sd card(internal and external) then install the app from Playstore. Then mount back the SD cards after the app has been installed in phone memory. No problem for Playstore apps that automatically install in phone memory.
I tried to move some apps from phone memory to SD card but its not working (using apps2SD). Will try to find the solution.
S-Pen is still recognized we just dont have the s-pen settings and s touchwiz apps.
Im happy with the cm9 ROM. its fast as compared to touchwiz.
By the way, before installing make sure to back up your contacts, messages, viper and whatsapp messages and your APN settings. Also do a NAND back up. You need to set your APN manually after installing the cm9.

Hi dycz21,
You mean that there is no problem if i'm installing directly to internal storage. the problem is there only if i install directly to external sd card.
Please correct me if i'm wrong

My understanding: When you go to "settings" > "storage" you will see your storage is divided into 3 sections: (1) Internal storage (phone memory)/ (2) Internal storage (sd card) / (3) sd card (external storage). If you download from Playstore some apps automatically install in storage #1 (phone memory). For this we have no problem. For apps that directly install in storage #2, this we have the problem. Installation will fail for this apps. Solution is unmount storage #2 and #3 then start to download from playstore and install. The app will be forced to install in the phone memory and installation is successful.
So after you installed the app and decided to move the app to storage #2 or #3 you will encounter a new problem. Moving the app to #2 and #3 will always fail. I am still trying to figure out a solution. I think the chinese already sorted this issues but I dont have access to their website to download the files. Hopefully darkspr1te can help us as he have access to the website. I am still waiting for the koreans to post the solution.

[GUIDE] install OpenGapps on Stock ROM (Chinese version, VIE-AL10C)

I have recently acquired a P9 Plus (Chinese Version) and one of the issues with all of the Android phones sold in China is that they don't have Google services (Google in banned in China because of its refusal to comply with the Chinese internet regulations). There are ways you can install bits and pieces from the Huawei app store but it would be difficult to get all of the Google services together. There are ways already posted on XDA where you can install contact sync and app store one by one, but to me downloading through apkmirror (or any other site) could be a risk since those are uploaded by anonymous users and unless you can decompile the code and try to understand what's in those, it would be difficult to know if the apk is or is not doing something that are not designed for.
This guide assumes that you have unlocked bootloader and installed TWRP on it. Also I am not sure if you need to root the phone (which is pretty much for free once you had TWRP installed) but I had my phone rooted by the time I installed OpenGapps, obviously during this process you would have got the ADB drivers installed.
This process will wipe all user data, so please make sure you do a backup on your phone first.
First step is to download the installer zip to PC (or to SD card, I didn't have a spare SD card so I just download directly to PC), go to http://opengapps.org/, choose ARM64 (I know it is not actually ARM processor but somehow this package works, may be ARM and Kirin have compatible instruction set? That will sure make custom ROM development a lot easier!), 6.0 for OS version and choose the package you would like to have. I used nano but I am sure for other packages would work too.
Now go to TWRP on your phone. If you have downloaded the installer on your SD card you can just do Install -> select the zip and flash. I downloaded to my PC so I have to use the Sideload route, basically go to Advanced -> ADB sideload and simply do adb sideload FILE_NAME.zip (replace FILE_NAME with the actual OpenGapps package name you have downloaded). After that I originally tried to wipe caches and simply reboot but that didn't work for me.
So here is the trick, you will need to wipe Data and Internal Storage as well. I know, this sounds crazy but this is how it worked for me. If you managed to get other combinations to work feel free to suggest here as well.
What I did was I went to Wipe -> Advanced Wipe wiped Cache/Dalvik Cache, Internal Storage and Data (i.e., check everything except System and Micro SDCard) and then did a wipe.
After that, Reboot -> System.
Now once you are done with the set up, you will be greeted with an "uglier" version of the original UI (no fancy gold color!), but guess what, you should be able to see Google Play Store and you should be able to add Google accounts in Settings -> accounts.
For some reason I noticed if you try to add Google accounts you seem to be able to add one only (may be I overlooked something) so what I did was I went to the GMail app then go to Settings -> Add Account and that allows me to add the other Google accounts. Once you add a Google account on the GMail app it should be visible in other Google apps (App Store/Movies/Games, for instance) as well.
Any questions/better ideas feel free to post them below.

I don't think locking does (at least with my experience in using the dload method), however if you want to unlock again later on it will wipe the phone. I'd recommend you to backup the phone before performing any of these actions though.

why is the dload not working in some instances? like on AL10, I cannot perform the dload update method, i have the latest update of emui 5.0 thats why i wanna re-lock then downgrade using hi-suit, then flash twrp and flash the updated version. it sucks,
but maybe you can help me on how to do the dload update.

[ROM] X96 2/16GB with full root SuperSU and TWRP Recovery

This is my first attempt of creating any Android Rom myself, so don't expect too much.
Changes to the original OTA update which was the base for all:
Removed Superuser in favour for a fully integrated SuperSU by Chainfire.
Changed some root related settings in the kernel to allow a full root instead of factory default.
Keyboard bug fixed for all included keyboards and added a definition for those cheap wireless keyboards with touchpad you often get with the box.
This means pressing ENTER or OK really does just that instead of only producing unwanted characters.
Several versions for download (once I managed to test and upload all), all include a power menu for Kodi to shut down the box without the need for the IR remote.
General instructions:
Download the RAR archive of your choice and unpack the contents to a micro SD formatted in FAT32.
Insert SD into box and press the little button inside the AV port while you power the box up.
Once the logo appears release the button.
TWRP recovery will start and you should do a full backup of your box first!
I do recommend a full wipe after the backup to avoid conflicts after the firmware installation.
Install the ZIP and reboot once done.
Take your time as the initial boot will take quite some time, especially for the versions with more added programs.
Just the recovery image - for those who need it.
X96 stripped down...
In this version I removed all content from the OTA update that might be considered to be a concern in legal terms.
So no Kodi addons, no streaming apps, just a naked system with the standard Google apps and a modified Kodi.
The crappy file browser was replaced by the FX filebrowser.
For those with the need for more than the Media Box Launcher I added the ADW Launcher as well as the XMBC Launcher to have Kodi as the homescreen.
After the boot is finnished I strongly recommend to update the SuperSU binary.
I left this part manual as a confirmation that the first boot and setup really completed.
Only then can SuperSU update the binary in normal mode with success.
After that reboot to clear the memory and all leftovers.
Once you are done with all modifications and app installations you might need do a full backup trough TWRP again to safe you the time if something goes wrong.
Download RAR
After a lot of swearing, flashing, more swearing and flashing I finally managed to create a fully unbranded system that can be installed through TWRP.
If you still know how the original X96 looks with the original firmware you will be surprised
What has changed from the branded firmware:
Bootlogo original S905X.
Google bootanimation - that was the hardest part, allowing for a custom animation...
Media Box Launcher unbranded and with unbranded theme.
Unbranded Kodi completely removed so the rom will comply with all piracy laws and restrictions - more in the added apps section.
OTA updater removed.
All programs from the branded version removed, so no social media, Chrome, Netflix and so on.
Apart from the naked system with Google apps I included:
AdAway
ADW Launcher
XMBC Laucher for Kodi
File browser replaced by FX filemanager
Power Menu added - still requires to root the box! More under added apps.
Added apps and modifications:
Kodi was removed, but the install script for the addon packs is still valid.
The script no longer refers to the system folder but to /sdcard/apps
This means if you decide to install Kodi you can place the tar.gz archive for the addons in the apps folder of the internal SD.
Kodi itself is not included.
The additional apps I thought to be of use will be in the apps folder of the internal SD.
In FX file explorer it is called "Main Storage".
Here you will find:
Chrome
Facebook
Film On (from the branded firmware)
Lucky Patcher
Mobdro (from the branded firmware)
Netflix (from the branded firmware)
Showbox (from the branded firmware)
Skype
SuperSU by Chainfire
Twitter
VLC for Android
Three different Youtube apps to choose from, including a TV version.
How to install SuperSU:
All modifications to the boot image, scripts, libraries and so on are done and included.
This means the system is rooted except for the actual Superuser app.
Install from the apps folder and let the binary update, once done reboot and enjoy.
Ads...
Not all ads in programs or while surfing can be disabled by AdBlock.
For example everything coming from "trusted sources" like Google will still be allowed.
This is the only reason I included Lucky Patcher as it can be of use for some apps to enjoy without ads.
Install and use at your own risk!
Installation of the ROM:
As before wipe all through TWRP then install the ZIP file from extracted RAR archive - so unpack the RAR first to your SD card.
Installation through TWRP does take a few minutes due to the hash verification.
Since all included apps are integrated into the system the first boot is a bit faster compared to the above ROM.
And the additional apps land on the internal SD for everyone to choose or delete if not wanted.
Please allow about 5 minutes after after the launcher selection appeared before you actually start using the apps - some things are still installing in the background!
Once you finnished the network and personal setup of accounts and such bott into TWRP and make a full backup in case you need it.
A factory reset will set you back to the point of the installation of the rom - so no SuperSU and the added apps folder might be gone too.
Known bugs:
Just noticed the WiFi is not available at first activation.
As the chipset is identified during activation you might have to select the network twice until you see WiFi available.
Watch the boot on Youtube
Download from Filefactory
Beta2 with shutdown using F12 on the Wifi Keyboard and some other fixes. - This is just with the most basic apps.
I finally found a neat way to use the WiFi remote to shut down the box the same way the power button on the IR does.
Just press F12 and you will be asked if you want to power down
Will upload the Beta2 with this fix soon.
What's left to do?
Well, now that there is an unbranded and working S905x system out there it means someone could use it to make a ROM that works on all S905X systems out there...
Just needs including WiFi and where existant BT drivers, libraries and calls....
And of course a recovery capable of working on all boxes but that should not be too hard actually
Update: 12/05/2017:
Beta 3 and a Fully Naked Rom is available now.
The Fully Naked Rom has the FX File Explorer and SuperSU included, apart from that it is a naked Android without any Google apps left - great if you want to play around with different GAPPS packages.
The Beta 3 has some minor fixes and most apps moved into the system area instead of the user space.
If you need more apps or launchers then please check the Playstore.
Both have a system partition inflated to 1536mb, which is the same size as the factory OTA update.
On the Fully Naked Rom you can only install apps through the filemanager as no store of any kind is included.
Update 17/07/2017:
A new firmware was released and finally we have a navbar and notification shade "out of the box".
Other changes include the launcher and Kodi, now you find KD Launcher and KD Player...
The OTA can be found here, just unpack to the SD and use as usual, either with the supplied original recovery or your favourite TWRP.
Only downside is we have a locked bootanimation again
A cleaned rom with the usual fixes for keyboard and root can be found here as my Beta 4.
All removed and some additional apps can be found in this archive, just unpack to your SD and install with FX.
Those with just 1GB system memory or wanting to customise all themself can try the Beta 5, which is made small enough to fit on 1GB systems.
Use the above archive to add the programs you need.
Libreelec for SD or USB install.
Unpack the archive to your PC and use Rufus to get the tar.gz image to your SD/USB stick - all existing data will be wiped.
Copy the dtb.img to the SD, overwriting the existing file.
Plug in the box and boot using a toothpick.
Once Libreelec is set up it will work with the SD/USB inserted without you boot the normal Android from the internal memory.
Videoboot
With this version you can use a MP4 video file instead of a bootanimation.
Works with sound of course and should support every MP4 video the normal video player can play.
For your own video simply replace the bootvideo.mp4 in the systems media folder.
Update 04/06/2017: Finally with Open GAPPS!
The X96 showed some real resistance to overcome the chinese limitations and to allow a working installation of updated Google Apps.
As I already spent a lot of days trying to get it to work I only focussed on Open GAPPS but no manual install or the XIAOMI Gapps installer.
With the troubles in the beginning I created a way of installing it all that worked with no errors for me - I suggest to follow it before you try other ways.
This Beta is right now considered to be in an experimental stage until users provided enough feedback to confirm it indeed works fine.
All is based on a naked and slightly modified Beta 5.
The system itself is pretty much naked except for the usual fixes, everything that could make troubles was removed, this includes:
Camera, video and music, wallpapers and so on - install what you want and need through the playstore once all is working.
Main reason for this was to avoid problems with the GAPPS package and to allow the use on 1GB systems as well.
How to install:
Unpack the RAR archive to your favourite SD card or USB stick.
Plug into the box and start with a toothpick - TWRP will show up.
Go to Wipe, Advanced Wipe and wipe Dalvik/Art cache, Data, Internal Storage and Cache.
Go back and install the X96-no-gapps archive and add the opend gapps archive into the line.
Upgrading the neural network takes a few minutes, once the AI is fully operational the GAPPS package will install.
Simply ignore the fact that some of the listed apps will not be available, like Faceunlock - this is due to the removed camera and other things but also because of our harware platform.
After that reboot.
If all goes well and the intial boot goes well you can simply follow the on screen instructions from the wizard.
In case after 10 minutes the Google animation is still going you have to try again but with a different approach (50/50 chance for the first to work).
Start over with a another wipe as above, then install only the X96-no-gapps firmware.
Reboot and do your usual setup of network and screen settings - don't start any apps or mess with SuperSu yet!
Once all is good reboot into the TWRP recovery and install the Open GAPPS package.
Reboot.
Now all should go according to plan.
Troubleshooting and additional infos:
If neither the first nor the second way of installing works for I suspect that your previous ROM was not based on mine or the OTA firmware.
In this case try one of my other beta firmwares if the included firmware itself already failed to boot.
The initial connection to Google can take 4-5 minutes instead of the advertised 2 minutes, so please allow 5 minutes before you panic.
The additional Google apps are not available at this stage and the loading will stay on the screen until you click next - simply add whatever Google app you need from the playstore.
This included Google Music and Google Play TV.
Again: no additional apps of any kind are included, I suggest to use VLC for audio and video or simply whatever you prefer.
Oh, before you ask: Navbar and notification shade are active and working.
Allow some time and check the notification shade for the updates once the system is running, I did not include all updated versions at this stage.
Download the new Beta 6 - Open Gapps version.
Update 15/11/2017:
They finally released another update, got available two days ago but file date is a bit older.
You can check on the Baidu servers yourself if you like Baidu X96 Downloads
Password there is: hp7u
Download as a RAR from Filefactory.
Once I find some time I will check if and what fixes are needed that I can do.
My new x96 arrived yesterday also I found this thread and instructables yesterday. I'm really glad that you take care of this little machine.:good:

Guess I was just in the same boat as everyone else with these noname things.
Figured almost everything out I need, ecxept how to change the bootloader/kernel to allow for a custom bootanimation.
Main thing though was to have a working recovery to avoid weird UBS cables and manual flashing.
I wish I was 2 weeks further so I could test your build but I have to look through these things atm. Its interesting that the youtube tv app hasn't changed for a while.
Too many boxes available but I do think x96 is a solid little machine.
There's also opportunity to work with libreelec.
On my s4mini I have a dolby atmos app running modded by ahrion here on xda. Maybe it would be interesting.,wheather it runs on our little devices or not.
I am working on a fully unbranded firmware for the X96 atm.
The problem of converting USB burn images into flashable ZIP was one problem to get the "unbranded" original firmware to at least install another.
They really don't like you messing with their toys in china LOL
If I can't solve the bootanimation problem I will at least upload the otherwise unbranded version with a choice of launchers and updated apps.
Chinese toys. LOL.
Who has made the custom rom from February 16th. Rar @entertainmentbox?
No clue as I did not do it and did not check either.
But the fully unbranded firmware is on the way to upload
Finally custom bootanimations are possible
The pictures I've seen on instructables are awesome. Nice launcher.
Hope you're having fun tuning these Chinese toys.

Congrats to your unbranded system. Hope there will be soon more users for testing and enjoying your work
Fixed the shutdown through WiFi remote problem
Is it possible to have look like the normal android tablet/phone?
Hey Downunder35m http://www.tvboxforum.com/archive/index.php?thread-671.html
Just curious is the remote working? I btw changed the keyboard layout so the annoying enter key is fix as well as added the F1 = Power function
Nevermind I fixed my issues with the remote too. Now it is 100% working.
Wasn't aware that the keyboard needs fixing as it works fine here, including powering down the box
I didn't upgrade to the Beta2

Hello!
I have the X96 box mentioned here. Exactly this 2GB model: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Hot...32779857015.html?spm=2114.13010608.0.0.dF9x4G
The problem is... No matter what i do, i get the error 7 in TWRP. I tried beta1 and beta2, but same error.
I have tried retrying, rebooting, but no effect.
Any suggestions?
What i did was;
-backup files (to internal memory)
-wipe all (byebye backup )
-try to install image from sd-card or usb-stick (both fat32)
-installed TWRP recovery (which caused SD card not to be recognized anymore)
The recovery is specifically for the X96, I had no time to make a generic recovery for all S905X boxes, but seems it should be the next step here.
The error 7 through TWRP is caused by two things (at least during all my tests):
a) The system is totally wiped and the updater script is unable to find the correct hardware info as the build.prop is no longer present.
For this problem and during my tests it just works if you flash again without a wipe.
So right after the error 7 go back and install the firmware again without any reboot or anything else and it should flash successfully.
b) Your system uses different space allocations for the boot, bootloader and recovery partitions.
For this problem the only real cure is to first use the OTA installer for the genuine firmware to get the system working again.
Then only wipe Dalvik, cache and data - the system partition will be overwritten once the update starts but then the installer can find the build prop and if compatible will continue.
If you have a download for the original firmware I will try to incule your system stuff into the next recovery I make.
Otherwise you can always try the hard way if the system is currently toast anyway:
Open the updater script in the META-INFO folder (down in the last subdirectory) and remove the device check for the X96.
That would be the first two lines of the script- everything before th OTA check.
Downside of this approach is that your entire system will be replaced by mine and if your hardware is differernt or the partition sizes won't match then it still won't boot.
Let me know how you go and I will see that by tomorrow evening I have a universal TWRP for all S905X ready.

GApps on CN ROM 3.26 (PIE 9.0) - and root (CN and OMNI)

First thing first,... I'm Just a noob here, I just did some testing things during my quarantine free time and got many errors with this Red Magic (which as far as I know has no update until now for international user). So, If there's something you guys know more than Me, or if I might do something wrong on my guide here, please correct me...
My goal was to get rid of the touchscreen bugs which still exist on International ROM (Oreo 8.1), but I still want the RGB light feature also...
Do it at your own risk!
Here you go:
ROOT for Omni 9.0 Unofficial by Vache and CN ROM 3.26 you can get it here
This root method I got it from here by member changguangyu on Red Magic 3!
Here you go :
I've tried with Fresh stock CN ROM 3.26 (update from without formating, result always failed for google apps at least for me)
install TWRP from fastboot
Download Magisk Manager (using 7.5.1 (267) when this post created)
Extract your boot.img from your Rom and save it to your download folder (i dunno - already tried to put it in another place, it gave me nothing).
Open Magisk Manager and it will say something like Magisk not Installed
Install it and select and patch the boot file you saved before.
It will create magisk_patched.img and save it to your computer.
Enable developer options > make sure to check (ON)USB debugging and OEM unlock on your device
Open command prompt on Windows: reboot to fastboot command :
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Unlock your device
Code:
fastboot oem nubia_unlock NUBIA_NX609J
Use command :
Code:
fastboot flash boot magisk_patched.img
Reboot! and your phone should be rooted now.
Installing GAPPS on CN ROM 3.26 better, and simple method:
with this method, it was much simpler and the result is Google Play can download big files like PUBG Mobile
First, make sure your device is rooted!
Second, make sure twrp are installed (I use the one that came in the same link with omni 9.0 i think)
Third just flash GAPPS get it at Opengapps get it here . I use the pico one...
that's it! everything is smooth at least for me.
Now for a bit tricky part
Installing GApps (Google Play Services, etc) CN ROM only (I'm using 3.26).
This can be done after you root your device!
Open Magisk and go to the module, search for App Systemizer (Terminal Emulator) by Veez21 and reboot your device.
Download Google Installer (Chinese apps) (got it from this thread ) by Teeemoo
Click the blue-button and install everything until all the checklist is finished! After the install is done, don't open any google or add an account yet!.
Go to settings > App info > search for google calendar sync and everything that smells like google set every permission to yes! even storage! yes, Anything! (At first, I did not allow storage permission for play services, and it gives me an error during contact sync!) (Also you may want to check Settings > Notification Management > Playstore > make it open ).
Search for Termux (terminal emulator) on the internet, download the apk and install it. (I think I remembered it using F-Droid)
open termux use the following command :
Code:
su
then
Code:
systemize
then choose option
Code:
1
listed apps will be shown. choose Google apps at which number you want to systemize (mine started on 10 until 15) so i put
Code:
10
enter and then I make it as privilege apps or priv-apps by choosing option number
Code:
2
, and then go back to menu
Code:
y
--- Choose another google apps until it finished!
After all that, reboot!
Start by opening the play store
And Voila :fingers-crossed::good::laugh:
Tips:
Already tested it, some google features will not work nicely if it's not system apps... My solution is :
Install all google apps that i need after Play Store is installed nicely.
Example for Google Assistant (Saying "Hey Google" hot words) : Force Stop Nubia Share, Nubia Voice
Allow all permission, also go to Settings > Power Management > Application Power Management > Your Apps > Regardless of Control.
After that, Open Termux and systemize the Google Assistant.
After Reboot you will be prompted for "Okay, Google" hotword detection.
Again if someone has better tips, please post it...
I also experience some apps that don't run on the background (Whatsapp for example) - u need to run it first and don't clear from recent sometimes I guess.
I tried to download PUBG Mobile, and it says: can't update blablabla... see common ways to fix the problem (anyone knows how to resolve this issue? - (this problem only for big file i think) )
The Chinese Rom is nice, but it gave me a headache sometimes I already allow permission to some apps, when reopen, it goes back doesn't have permission again.... but after making it as a system (priv-app) from the app systemizer (from magisk and use it with Termux), all goes well.
PS: it will be great if someone can test this too, or make this ROM bloat-free! Thanks :good:
*latest update with CN ROM 3.32 = it works with this method...
UPDATE : CMIIW the 3.32 is so buggy for me, for example : we can't hear anything for ringtone after we changed the ringtone using mp3, and more bugs again... ringtone always getting silent by itself after several hour reboot, the most annoying thing is, fingerprint sometimes working sometimes not!. anyone that use 3.32 please share your experience too please...
Great work![emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
great
I suppose first of all you have flashed custom recovery and then you tried install root

For flashing boot.img I don't need to go to recovery... I just do it via fastboot command without entering recovery... But, it will be better if you have TWRP installed just in case.
