Pocophone F1 on Google Cam vs Redmi Note 5 AI on MIUI - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

Hey guys, title says all. And I know I asked this question on Pocophone F1 forums because I know alot of you guys came from Redmi Note 5.
I've been doing some research and seeing some comparison vids, but I haven't really found the information I was looking for, because most camera comparison vids are comparing the two phones both running on MIUI Cam only, or MIUI Cam vs Google Cam but they use THE SAME phone.
I know Redmi Note 5 AI works much better with MIUI Cam than GCam because I own the phone myself, the phone tends to crash on front facing camera and alot of features don't work.
So I was wondering what would have the better photo/video quality if Redmi Note 5 AI was using MIUI and Pocophone F1 was using Google Camera.
And one more question, if Google Camera on Pocophone is fully working or doesn't have bugs.
Thanks!

Switching Galaxy S8 to Xiaomi Mi 8. Worth it?

Hi buddies!
My 3 last smartphones were Samsung ones (A5/2016, Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S8) and now I'm thinking of trying something different.
I have nothing to complain about my Galaxy S8, but let's say that I'm tired of it.
I use the smartphone mainly for for social media and taking pictures, so, the camera is the more important feature for me.
Thinking of a new smartphone, I have Xiaomi Mi 8 and OnePlus 6T in mind.
I had in my hands the Mi A1 and Mi A2, but never used one with MIUI.
How about the screen quality? Will I notice too much difference switching back from 1440p to 1080p?
Is Mi 8 camera better than Galaxy S8's?
What you guys have to say about this deal?
No, you won't notice the difference between 1440 and 1080. Screen is excellent but s8 screen is a little brighter. Nevertheless xiaomi developer team is really really slooooow don't expect to be up to date with Android releases. I mean I am running 8.1 on mi8 (flagship) while the S7 is already on Pie.

Xiaomi updates every week ONLY Beta Builds. S7 has PI look it up I can show you some picture later. Please stop confusing people glorifying xiaomi dev team.

Most of Xiaomi users even don't know what is MIUI Beta/Weekly and the Global Stable ROM is very slow to update.
I had the S8 and made the change to Mi 8.
At first, running the Global stable rom, i was kinda let down. Hdr didn't work, camera was not good and headphone audio volume was low.
Then i installed the Global beta rom (based on pie). All the above problems were fixed, the camera if you want to install the bsg Gcam is Amazing. Stock is good too but Gcam is miles ahead. The norch support is improved, you can now get notifications on status bar.
The mi 8 is snappier ( touchwiz is laggy).Battery on this thing is really good (geting 7h SOT on miui). The Mi 8's screen is a downgrade but not as big as i first thought. I played many videos side by side and could notice "blacker" blacks on the S8.
My opinion is to go with mi 8 if you want to install a custom rom, to make it pixel-like or AOSP in general.
Imho even a Redmi note 6 pro would be a massive upgrade from any Samsung device.
Can't stand their roms and bloatware. Great hardware but awful software.

S7 has Pie only on custom Roms! Mostly on crappy AOSP Rom's where the battery life and camera quality is really bad.
Mi 8 and also Poco has Pie on official Beta from vendor. Even the S9 didn't have a official beta from Vendor with Pie (as far i know, but don't keep an eye on S9 dev).
Please keep the facts! Has nothing to do with glorifying someone.

No. You are confusing them. S7 has no official OTA pie update. S9 does not have stabel OTA pie. Infact, both Xiaomi and Samsung are really slow.

In principle, I advise you against it,
I have Mi8 it is very good phone at an excellent price, I moved from Galaxy Note 4
Mi8 battery life is great, usually I get +7 hours of SOT, and sometimes I reach 48 hours of use on one charge.
display is great, colors and brightness
I don't play games on it but the performance is smooth in general
the design and dimensions are very good also
the finger print sensor is fast , convenient and well placed.
charging is faster than Samsung's
I have used Samsung's software for years and I like, but you can easily get used to MIUI.
the stock camera software is not that good, but you can use a Gcam port like I do.
I have one complain about the Mi8 which is the speaker loudness, it is nearly inaudible if compared to my previous Note 4.
if you "need" a new phone immediately it will be a very good choice at a budget.
If you are looking for an upgrade from the S8, I think you Mi 8 is not a suitable one, neither the OP6T, especially with that in-display slow andn insecure finger print sensor.
I explained my reasons here - https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-8/how-to/love-mi-8-t3876024.

You will notice the difference in sound quality if you have an In-ear monitor (IEM) like KZ ZSN.
but price wise, and performance yeah I will definitely choose Mi8. will just need to unlock and tweak the audio. cheers
I've done it myself and I can say that I love the MI8 for its overall performance and MIUI10 which is to me so far the best Android experience. I do miss some stuff tough like the wireless charging and IP68 certification which was really nice to have. But I don't regret my purchase.

I honestly couldn't tell if it's better or worse but it's really decent ?
I have the The mi 8 pro (in UK) and can confirm that the camera is nowhere near as good as the Samsung.
Very, very, disappointed.

Google camera not working great on pocophone f1

Hey
i just installed lineageOS on my pocophone f1 and i love it, only bad thing is, i installed the ported gcam.
i have 2 problems:
1) My slow motion is super choppy and i dont think its filming at 240 fps
2) My Front cam is only being shot at 5 mp, when it can go up to 20 mp
what can i do to fix this? and if i cant, is there a way to download stock pocophone f1 cam somewhere?
thanks!
Front cam uses pixel binning. 20mp is binned to 5 so nothing to complain there. Slow mo is a known bug. Read the thread. There may be a fix search around

I might be wrong, but google for a zip fix to flash with custom recovery.

Of course it doesn't. It's a community-driven port. A constant work in progress. This comes as a surprise to no one.
Stock cam on non-stock ROM? That's arguably even more work needed. Works worse than GCam imo. However, some people are doing good work in that direction.
The relevant threads for GCam and MIUI Cam Port here hold all the info. Search tool is your friend.

GCAM - Will Poco F1 / Mi8 / Mi Mix2s ever get Motion Photos?

Hi,
The last few days I've been searching a lot about Motion Photos in Gcam. Before, on my Mi A1, motion photos worked great, but with the Xiaomi Phones with Snapdragon 845 I can't seem to fix it. I've tried every possible setting and many different builds.
From what I've read the problem is that Gcam uses the YUV format for Motion Pictures and that Xiaomi doesn't provide the correct drivers for the Snapdragon 845 for it. This is also the problem with Mi 8 and Mix 2s. Does anyone know if this is true and if devs can work around this, or we just have to live with the fact that we never can use the feature Motion Photos?
Or is this something devs can fix in a custom kernel? CC: @Arnova8G2

Mi 8 vs Redmi note 7: what is the best solution for GCAM?

Good morning.
I'm going to buy one smartphone between Mi 8 and Redmi note 7. I'm looking for the best one with gcam.
I have two questions for you:
1) Which smartphone gives the best performances and the best quality of pictures with gcam?
2) Is it usually possible to use Mi8's OIS with gcam? Are there any gcam version letting use OIS with Mi 8 or is OIS always unabled from all gcam versions?
Can anyone help me?

Question Best Gcam

Best Gcam for Redmi note 11s.

Hello dear community, I got a Redmi Note 11S. I'm currently testing the GCam. I noticed that all mods on the front camera, which normally has 12 to 16 MP on the stock cam, with GCam only has a maximum of approx. 3 MP. with Camera2Test the resolution of the FrontCam is only 2320X1744 RAW_Sensor? Is that a bug or doesn't work anymore
