Nethunter for Mi8 Explorer Edition - Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro Questions & Answers

I would like to install Nethunter on the Mi8 Explorer Edition but I can't find any information on it with regards to my device. The only thing I saw was how to build it on the Kali Linux forum. Any help would be appreciated thank you.

Just root with magisk and install nethunter via "modules". Then download chroot from Kali site and install It via nethunter

I'm not sure why I'm having that issue. Did you use the patched_boot.img? Can you mentioned how you installed it. I really need this to work.

Ok so I tried installing TWRP, and when I did, it didn't stick. And what I mean is I can boot into it one time, reboot, go back into recovery again, and it'll go back to Mi Recovery. Also the files which were showing in TWRP recovery weren't all of the files that were in my internal sd card. So why does it do that. BTW, this was for the Mi Mix 2, I haven't tried it on the Mi 8 EE yet.

Nethuntet mi 8 ee
I have mi 8 ee.
I have this problem.
start nethunter, then do an upload: "new app build detected", and then nethunter crash

Even with the files that were in my internal storage of my Mix 2 I couldn't access with TWRP, they just weren't there. I just don't want that to happen on my mi 8 EE so I'm cautious to flash it.
Edit: @turbo 1123, that version of TWRP won't work for my device due to the fact it's the Italian version.

To install recovery, you have to patch the boot. The button can be found in "advanced" section. If you want I can give you my toolbox to download the twrp

I have the Italian version with the mi 8 EE twrp. Remember, it's the same device but the EE has 3d facial recognition. Nothing that the recovery uses. If you need it, I'll pass my toolbox

I have an Idea to fix it I'm downloading fastboot Rom right now, it will take some time to download. (I'll report back here once I'm done downloading and Fixing) :good:
Meanwhile when I connect Mi4 to PC I see lots of drives 5-7 drives which are not accessible they need to be formatted. (I didn't do anything just left them as they are)

Unbrick the mi3/4 like this. Follow the steps:
1) get a fastboot rom. Preferably miui 7 leaked Chinese version fastboot rom.
2) revert back to the dual partition using cwm recovery
3) Goto fastboot menu, connect to pc and using miflash tool flash the fastboot rom. Make sure flash_all.bat is selected in the advanced option.
4) it takes time for initial boot.
5) transfer the zip files of 5.12.17 version and latest 5.12.29 into the Phone Memory.
6)rename 5.12.29 zip to update.zip
7) open Updater app in miui - menu - choose update file and select 5.12.17.
8) 5.12.17 will merge the partition
9)after successful flashing reboot and goto recovery
10) clear cache and data
11) flash update.zip
I can not install the gapps. Any help?

Can you see the drives connected than?
I had the same problem you have (except I could properly see the device as QHSUB which ur saying now lost)
Just open MI Flash and check if you can see the device. If yes than simply flash any fastboot ROM

TWRP 3.1 now up for axon 7

Now supports among other things back up to pc. I've installed and tested and works.

Edit: the original article https://www.xda-developers.com/twrp...-support-for-adb-backup-ab-ota-zips-and-more/
Edit: seems flashing via TWRP image flash is providing better success than via TWRP app. Recommend updating via TWRP flash.

Flashed 3.1.0.0. whit Flashify.
Worked great for me! I always flash in TWRP, I guess that a I am old school. Thanks for pointing out the new version. I will have to try out the new ADB backup feature later. Although I am not sure if we are still having problems restoring backups like we used to on this phone. I haven't been able to keep up with the forum's lately.

Ok I flashed TWRP through fastboot and it worked. I think my first DL was bad. It was half the size of the second one I downloaded.
Success here too. Thank you.
Its all ok with Axon Zte A2017 Chinese.
The last TWRP I conscioulsy installed was 3.0.4.1 but it now shows 3.0.N1-1, what is that? Could it have been updated automatically from the TWRP app?
Also, before I noticed that my boot partition disappeared from TWRP, I can no longer make backups of it or restore the ones I had. Why could that happen? I get something like "unable to locate boot". Thanks

I am guessing you used EDL mode to install TWRP as that is the modified version, as I saw that too. I used TWRP to flash the 3.0.4-1 image and all is normal.
EDIT: TWRP 3.0.4-1 on A2017U Running modified Stock B15 (lots of APKs frozen). Flashing TWRP 3.1 both from TWRP and from "Official App" results with black screen for Recovery. TWRP 3.0.4-1 re-flashed OK from app.
N1-1 is from unjustified devs bootstack.

N1-1 & 3.0.4-1 both work fine, but 3.1 boots to black screen. Why?
Twrp 3.1.0 worked fine on my Axon 7 US version A2017U
Flashed via fastboot over stock recovery.
Will edit this thread and report back if issue is discovered.

[GUIDE] Magisk v15.4 on Oreo

Hi guys I was able to root my P10 using magisk and the new treble project on oreo very easily.
All credit goes to @topjohnwu as he's the creator of Magisk and this method all i'm doing is sharing his work and adding the boot image for the P10
Requirements:
Your PC
P10 ON OREO B360 (this only works on oreo if you try to do it on nougat you could easely brick your device)
Bootloader Unlocked (?)
ADB & Fastboot
I actually don't know if you need to have your bootloader unlocked as it's using the treble project to update the boot partition.
I had mine unlocked when i did this.
Step 1:
Get your boot image from update files (huawei update extractor > settings > uncheck the first 3 checkboxes) here i have the boot image from my VTR-L29C432B360
Install the latest Magisk Manager apk from here.
Step 2:
Open Magisk Manager, go to Settings > Update Channel > Custom Update channel with this link http://goo.gl/jefZKH
after that check if the latest magisk update is v15.4 (as the time of posting this guide)
if it says Invalid Update Channel you probably misspelled the link
Step 3:
Copy your boot image to your internal storage/sd card
Go on Magisk Manager > Install > Patch boot image file > Select the boot image on your internal storage/sd card
when it finishes go on your pc and pull the patched boot image to your desktop or desired folder. it will be stored on your internal memory/MagiskManager/patched-boot.img
Step 4:
Open cmd on the same folder as your patched boot image
Go to fastboot (Power-off then Vol+ and Power)
now on cmd type
Code:
fastboot devices
should come as response a serial number and fastboot
this means your device is connected to you pc and on fastboot
after that type
Code:
fastboot flash ramdisk patched_boot.img
it will flash the patched boot image
when it's done just reboot
and you're set!!
You'll have root with Magisk and pass safety net without a problem.

Thank you very much for this guide, worked like a charm.
I even have full SafetyNet back, incl. CTS. What I didn't have before I flashed the patched bootimage.
I'm just wondering why you suggest to modify the update channel? I got an error message anyway (and I didn't misspell it), so I changed it back to 'Stable' and had not problems.

well the modified channel update is one that @topjohnwu modified for huawei's treble enabled phones like the P10 so that we wouldn't have any problem with safety net or flashing the boot partition but if it worked for you it might work for others too

Oh, of course. Sorry, I meant with "not flashing with TWRP" that I didn't need to flash the zip for v16 manually, just install it within the app. But of course you need to install 15.4 first.

About magisk...is the root gone away finally fixed ?
on my old nova plus, when rooted whit magisk,we had to flash that darn patched boot img every 1-2 weeks in order to re have root again

I think Magisk causes bootloop. I believe there is a modded version, but I don't have a link.
Edit: I found post about Magisk - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78003101&postcount=14

I didn't install any drivers manually.
Just connected my phone to a Win 10 PC.
As for fastboot I just used my usual environment.
Has been a while so unfortunately I don't remember precisely, but I think I got it from Android SDK.
I've used the same environment to root my Zenfone 3 Deluxe before, if that makes any difference.
P.S.
Rashad83 says it doesn't return devices but can execute the command.
I've flashed TWRP but didn't use the fastboot devices command(I could try when I get home) so that might be the case.

That's right.
Although in hindsight, twrp might not be necessary if u just want root, but I did it in that order.
(Was thinking of posting a guide, but since I can't post direct links yet, hopefully someone who can would
I tried 3 different cables on 8 different USB ports on 3 different Windows 10 machines, and I cannot get the phone to flash TWRP. I tried FASTBOOT DEVICES and nothing comes up. Regardless, I still tried to FASTBOOT FLASH RECOVERY TWRP.IMG, and all I get is <waiting for device>. All my other phones work fine, and I do have all of the necessary drivers installed.
Is there a way I can sideload or flash Magisk via ADB, since I can use that? I can live without TWRP.

I hope you guys having fastboot issues are using the official Android Studio and not the minimal adb or any other version.

I tried Minimal ADB and Fastboot. ADB connects fine, Fastboot does not.
I tried the Android platform tools version of ADB and Fastboot. I 'm pretty sure that is the same thing that installs with Android Studio. ADB connects fine, Fastboot does not.
Just for fun, I did the 2 GB download and tried the full blown Android Studio version of ADB and Fastboot. Strike three.
So, same results no matter what I do. I can interact through ADB, but not Fastboot on the ROG phone. When I try to issue a Fastboot command while the phone is in Fastboot mode, all I get is "Waiting for any device".
It's never been this hard with any of the 6 devices I've owned and rooted. I am wondering if I should flash the stock firmware and start over. So far all I've done is unlock the bootloader using the ASUS unlock tool APK.

What region is your phone? Maybe some region roms have fastboot disabled?

[AIO] Guide to Unlock bootloader , Flash TWRP and a Custom rom.

Unlocking Bootloader1. Make sure you have a sim and active mobile data. Then go to about phone tap build number 7-8 times. After that go to advanced settings > developer options > turn on OEM unlocking and then check if this device is secure and click add account and device.
2. Download Mi unlock tool from here. Extract it and paste it in C:/unlock. or else your device won't be recognized for unlocking.
3. Open Mi unlock tool and then enter the Mi account which was on your device. Put your device in fastboot mode by pressing vol- and power and then connect to PC. Press unlock and if it tells you to wait you have no other option but to wait. If your mi flash tool shows connect your device even after you have connected it. Follow this guide here.
4. After you have unlocked your bootloader reboot your phone.
Flashing TWRP and Rooting via magisk
1. Download this TWRP image here. Thanks to the original developer mauronofrio.
2. Download adb and fastboot tools here and install it.
3. Now put your phone in fastboot mode and connect it with your pc. Now where you have downloaded the TWRP file rename it to TWRP.img and open a CMD window there if you don't know how just google.
4. Type the following commands
1. fastboot devices
2. fastboot flash recovery TWRP.img
3. fastboot reboot recovery.
Click to collapse
5. Your phone will boot into TWRP now. But TWRP will be overwritten by stock miui recovery to stop that you need to flash Magisk. Download this zip move it to internal storage then flash by tapping on install and swipe to flash. Reboot your device. Reboot to recovery again to check if TWRP is present.
Now your device is rooted
OR
Flash latest OrangeFox Recovery if you don't want magisk.
Flashing A rom
1. Download.
2. Flash.
3 Format Data.
Done
Feel free to ask any questions. And don't point a finger at me for messing your device.
My mi unlock tool says can't get info. I using Indian version miui 12
Thanks for the useful guide. I have a quick question, does this works with MIUI 12?

Okay keep the sim inserted and use the device for 7 days. And if it doesn't work try using older version of unlock tool.
Hi there!

Flashing a custom rom is optional. You don't NEED to flash a rom to get TWRP...
---------- Post added at 06:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:46 PM ----------
I've unlocked the bootloader using the unlock tool and waited for 7 days,
But i rooted the device using a different method where i patched a boot.img and flashed that to the device.
Will this method still work for me as I'm already rooted but just want TWRP so i can flash other ROMs.. The post says you have to flash magisk from the (temporary) TWRP for the TWRP to stay as the recovery..
Will the magisk on my phone and the magisk installed here collide?
I just want TWRP so i can switch to a custom rom, so any input is appreciated!!

Skip the flashing a rom part and you will be good to go.

You can flash twrp and then check if it persists. If not flash magisk again their is no thing as magisk colliding lol. Just make sure you flash a newer version. And if nothing works flash stock rom and then twrp.
If you have the stock boot IMG flash it and then intsall twrp and magisk.

Nevermind.. i got it to work pretty easily..
I have twrp on this device and Pixel Experience ROM and it's working all fine..
But there's this one thing where when booting to recovery, it asks me to input a password for User(0) when i try to input anything it says password failed..
From reading the log, it says it's for decrypting data(8f I'm not mistaken)
Is this important? Do i need to decrypt it?
Currently the ROM works fine with no errors, so I'm not gonna bother, but would still like to know what this "decrypting" thing is..

Yes, If you use a lock screen enter that password it will be decrypted. You will have to format data if you decide to flash any other rom anyway.

Yes Unified means all Snapdragon 720g Devices which include Joyeuse, Curtana, Gram, Excalibur.
Hey buddy, thank you for this quick step-by-step guide. I flash ROMs since 2012 and you know what? It helped me the same. Having all stuff needed for go from stock to custom concentrated in one place (plus some useful tip like the Magisk flash at the end) it's always useful and time-saving. Thank you
2 Micro-notes about fastboot btw:
- write 'fastboot (with lowered 'f'): it may confuse some newbie
- it's 'reboot' instead of 'boot'
