A case of being overwhelmed by choice (ROMs, Kernels, and more) - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

Hi guys,
I'm a new Poco user. I've checked out the forums and saw lots of ROMs, Kernels and even Recovery software. I'm a bit overwhelmed for the first time as I'm liking stock MIUI 10 for now. Can someone enlighten me on which ROM has the most features, what ROM is the most stable, which kernels go best with which?

Stability: BaikalOS, Pixel Experience
Powersave: BaikalOS
Customizability / Extra Features: Resurrection Remix, crDroid, Havoc-OS / POSP
Performance: Nitrogen OS, crDroid
Pixel Like: Havoc-OS, Pixel Experience
These are the ones I know but haven't tested all of them. Tell me if I'm missing any.

Wow thanks. Does BaikalOS have the app cloning feature? How good is the battery life compared to MIUI 10?

best kernels
Sphinx and Franco kernel
Best roms
Lineage and stock
Stock is of course the most stable, but the beta builds always have bugs they always remove settings add settings fix something break something.

It doesn't have the app cloning and battery life is a lot better if you manage the background apps strictly but you still have to install it and test it yourself.

There is no best rom or best kernel, it all comes down to personal preference...

Lineage Pie with Franco kernel.
..and go with pixel experience only if u r into very stock version which I think is overrated given its customization limitations.
I have always hated chinese ROMs or apps, take MIUI for example they have like hundreds of apps injected into core system (miui security, miui contacts, miui dialer, miui messaging, miui this that and what not...)

Do you know if Lineage OS has the signal issue fixed on it? I only really moved away from it because of that. Im on crDroid and my signal is much better now

Hi fellow Flip! Yeah I went with Ambasidii rom based on stock MIUI since I need the cloned app feature for ROM (Slave priest). It's rooted and has derp kernel. Battery life is quite a lot better. I was redownloading all my apps overnight and it only drained about 7% of battery life which is 1% more than full stock on idle without WiFi.
By the way, do you do a battery recalibration once you switch roms? Standby time is fantastic on mine but it seems to drain a little harder while playing ROM compared to stock.

There's no need to recalibrated when switching roms. Recommended calibrating your battery ( each month or every three months )
android phones this days use lithium-ion (Li-ion) or lithium-polymer (Li-po) batteries for Poco F1 . This batteries don’t need to be fully discharged, and come with smart chips that make calibration unnecessary and that's the good thing for us.
Just want to share this method , i do this all the time after switching custom roms.
First, drain your phone’s battery completely. Don’t charge it at any point while it’s draining. Let the phone keep working till it shuts itself off. Once the phone has shut itself off, restart it so it shuts off again. Even though the battery was at 0 percent, it has a few reserves left. Now, while the phone is off, charge it to 100 percent. It’s safe to use quick chargers for this, but make sure you hit 100 percent. Once it’s fully charged, unplug it and boot your phone. Android might not say it’s at 100 percent, and that’s okay. In that case, plug the charger again and let it get to 100 percent. then unplug it. This cycle of full drain and recharging lets the chip calibrate its readings with the battery’s charge cycle.
hope that helps:good:

Best rom & kernel

I need the best combo of rom and kernel ! recently got back into the android game after having an s3 and then switching to a 6s plus now I'm back, with the oneplus two
I need help on choosing the rom and kernel, would prefer for the rom to be stable and the kernel to give me great battery life
right now I'm on aospa 6.0.1 it's alright
I was so excited to get back into roms and android that I didn't even last 3 hours on oxygenOS
OOS3 is actually pretty decent. Especially if you get a ROM that is a modified version of OOS like Oxydium. Exodus is also another good choice for speed, battery, and reliability. So far though, in my experience, it's pretty hard to go wrong with any of the ROMs available for the OP2 though. CM based ROMs have seemed to not get quite as good battery as OOS based or Exodus for me, but they have more features of course. Good luck on your search!
Official cm13 with boeffla kernel is my default setup. But using aospa and resurrection remix (benschold kernel) once in a while )
Waiting to see more features in aospa

I think the best rom at the moment is Oxydium
Good battery, Android N-designed, great performance and no heating

I'm thinking of trying Oxydium
The bad part of oxydium, is not upgraded to the ota release. Happy user of cm13 unofficial, as daily.

The battery life is good, better than cm13, 4-5h sot
Now i'm using PA and it's more smooth than oxydium but camera is not as good as oxydium.
So far mm ROMs are still buggy and things are getting a lot better but the best ROM at least for me was VisionX but its a lollipop ROM
For me RR is still best in battery life

Latest
6h / 7h is achievable
Mostly i have 2 days of standby with 4,5 / 5h sot
Last couple of days I'm thinking about switching from OOS3 based back to CM13 or AOSP or PA. So I'm going through threads and I'm kinda shocked to see how most of them are now plagued by bugs which seem to have nothing to do with our devs, but it seems like they are getting that from sources, CyanogenMod mostly. Also, I don't remember any problems from couple of weeks (months?) ago! Like no notifications (dead silent phone), alert slider not working, echo in conversations, problems with camera, heavy on battery... before I had excellent battery life, notification and slider worked better than in OOS3, ROM was better with each version... any thoughts on that?
hi,
AOKP + Boeffla Kernel at the BEST! :good:

Can easily confirm, Resurrection Remix has given me much better battery life than OOS3 with my usage. Constant 5h SOT on LTE, 6+ on WiFi
CM13 Unofficial by Seraph08 + Boeffla Kernel works pretty well for me. I get a Standby time of almost 30 hours and SOT of over 4 hours. I used to barely manage 3 hours SOT earlier with OOS3.

I have been wondering the exact same thing.. I flashed PA June and it's been o.k. but has some issue with speaker / mic that weren't present in other MM rom's I've tried..
I went to Exodus. Feels great, works great, but with Trebuchet launcher as AOSP is very limited. I could recommend it easily

The Best Gaming Rom For Kenzo is Out Already!!!!

**THIS POST ONLY REFERS TO KENZO GAMING**
I have been searching for good gaming ROMs for a long long time....As PUBG Launched their Mobile version and unlike everybody I wanted to Taste it....
Then I read posts I came up with AEX 7.1.2 (N) with Radon Kernel (with gaming configuration) was a good....but for some reason no android N ROM was good for my Kenzo\
So There was No Chance for Nougat ROMs to work for me on PUBG.....
EDIT:- I Again Tried AEX latest April patched ROM with RADON gaming config But Still it doesn't work for me in any ways....so don't expect ROMs which are running 7.0/7.1.x
Then somewhere In EpicMIUI (N) OR KISSASSNYA Build of MIUI (sorry if there is a spelling mistake) they shared a SS of Antutu Benchmark scoring almost 1 lakh n above so there I thought that's the end.... Found the ROM...but then I got to know benchmark are not the things that we should believe in....and No MIUI ROM is capable of running PUBG MOBILE... As we know they Are RAM consuming.....
But Then All this Came to End...When I Found These ROMs1)Bootleggers ROM v2.3 (Stock Kernel) {22.06.2018}
2)MOKEE ROM 8.1 (Stock Kernel) {Build Date:-09.06.2018}
3)TOXYC + RADON KERNEL(GAMING CONFIG New Devices Tree) {BUILD DATE :-13.06.2018}
4)AIM ROM (Stock kernel) {BUILD DATE:-26.04.2018}
5)ABC ROM (Stock Kernel) {BUILD DATE:-08.06.2018}
6)DU v12.2 + RADON KERNEL(GAMING CONFIG New Devices Tree) {BUILD DATE :-02.06.2018}
7)MIUI 9 Global Dev ROM v8.5.19 (Flash By TWRP)
8)RR Darkness Remix (Stock Kernel) {29.05.2018}
9)ColtOS 2.1 (Stock Kernel) {02.06.2018}

NOW THIS IS WHO THIS ROMs PERFORM & BUGS
1]Bootleggers is finest ROM i came across...not even a single frame drop.....you know the amount of custom option the provide....so not much to tell about it...the main concern is like whenever i unplug my charger it drops 1-2% within 1 min of use like if it is 100% charged within 1 min of use it drops to 99/98 % but then....after this its nothing serious its has the best gaming performance i came around.....a slight heat up around 34-38 degree...no major heatup....
BUG:- Non
2]MOKEE its flawless nothing can match this one....i can play in highest possible graphics with no issue...now below is CARBON rom here you will ask which one to go with...see its upto you....MOKEE has got no custom options like rest of them is all PURE STOCK ANDROID the only thing which may hit you not to install this ROM but This more beats every other ROM in this LIST
BUGS:- Non
3]TOXYC with Radon Kernel Works So Much Smooth......i was Simply Surprised To See It Handel Stuff So Much Flawlessly.......Super Smooth No Lags No Heating Issues No Battery Drainage. And is playable with possible highest settings....The ROM has A Good Amount Of Custom Options.....Battery With That Kind Of Flawless Performance is Just A Cake Walk......*******MUST TRY....MOST RECOMMENDED*******
BUGS:- Not Faced Till Now....
4]AIM with stock kernel it is great with PUBG.... Is Simply HOT KNIFE & BUTTER walk....Its has all The custom option that NOS has & does have curved edges already on and much more....
BUGS:- Non
5]ABC with Stock Kernel Is Super Smooth NO Lags No Heating Issues No Battery Drainage PERFECT BUILD. This can is my all time fav ROM for PUBG as This POST was initially All about this ROM....I Cant Say Much About it Its Also Has The Latest Security Patch...(5 Jun 2018)
BUGS:- Non
6]DU with RADON KERNEL NEW DEVICES TREE works super fine.......for PUBG.....And is playable with possible highest settings....Custom Options are pretty much decent......NO LAGS....NO HEATING....NO BATTERY DRAIN....All I can Say Is simply Flash This ROM and Enjoy the Build...
BUGS:- Non
7]MIUI has been known for RAM consuming...and not letting KENZO reach its full Potential.....But Trust Me With this Its not like that.....PUBG is soo much better.....It was a real surprise for me to see that....i didnt expect this great performance anyway out of MIUI.... "BUT REMEMBER STOCK ANDROID IS STOCK NOTHING CAN BEAT THAT THING" You easily can make it do GOOD GAMING 40-45 FPS WHICH IS DAMN GOOD KEEPING IN MIND THAT It's MIUI...AND ALSO THE SLIPT SCREEN & QUICK SWITCH WORKS LIKE CHARM
BUGS:- Non
8]RR Darkness with Stock Kernel is good enough with low graphic settings and the best part is with great amount of Custom options......having those things and still going great is a Big deal...if you need gaming and custom options....
BUGS:- LOW WI-FI SIGNAL STRENGHT
9]ColtOS-2.1 is again the same ROM like AIM but it is at initial Stage so cant say much but but gaming is as same as ABC with Radon gaming config.....just the thing is here it was stock kernel...gaming was pretty good.....few bit of UI lags here and there....which is common as it was very first build.....
BUGS:- A Little Laggy UI (Will Be Fixed Soon as It A Initial Build)
BATTERY PERFORMANCE
SOT shared is all Based on my Usage & I use YouTube alot.....And Yes do note that my phone is 2 year Old so battery decay is the most common factor....here so your battery performance my vary accordingly
Bootleggers is like if you play a classic match which lasts for about 30-40 mins you can see 12-17% drop...SOT is around 4hrs50m-5hrs20m :- GOOD BATTERY
MOKEE is like if you play a classic match which lasts for about 30-40 mins you can see 12-15%(APPROX.) Its in that range its different everytime...SOT is around 5hrs10m-5hrs30m :- BEST BATTERY
TOXYC is like if you play a classic match which lasts for about 30-40 mins you can see 10-13% drop...SOT is around 5hrs-5hrs30m :- BEST BATTERY
AIM is like if you play a classic match which lasts for about 30-40 mins you can see 15-18% drop...SOT is around 4hrs30-40m :- DECENT BATTERY
ABC is like if you play a classic match which lasts for about 30-40 mins you can see 11-15% drop...SOT is around 5hrs-5hrs-20m :- BEST BATTERY
DU v12.2 is like if you play a classic match which lasts for about 30-40 mins you can see 12-17% drop...SOT is around 4hr50m-5hrs10m :- GOOD BATTERY
MIUI is like if you play a classic match which lasts for about 30-40 mins you can see 14-20 12-15% drop...SOT around 4hr40m-5hr :- GOOD BATTERY
RR Darkness is like if you play a classic match which lasts for about 30-40 mins you can see 14-20% drop...SOT around 4hrs30-50m:- DECENT BATTERY
ColtOS-2.1 is like if you play a classic match which lasts for about 30-40 mins you can see 16-22%drop...SOT around 4hrs20-40m:- AVERAGE KIND OF
SEE WHEN I STARTED THIS POST THERE WERE ONLY 2 ROMs ABC&AEX....AND AT THAT POINT I THOUGHT I WONT FIND GOOD ROMs FOR PUBG HERE AFTER....BUT SINCE THEN I HAVE TRIED SOO MANY ROMs....BUT HERE NOW I AM SHOWCASING 9 ROMs....IF YOU ASK WHICH ONE I PREFER...SEE IT DOESNT MATTER ME IF I HAVE CUSTOM OPTIONS OR NO SO I CAN GO WITH MOKEE BUT IF YOU WANT CUSTOM OPTIONS GO WITH AIM....CARBON IS STANDING IN BETWEEN ON MOKEE AND AIM CARBON HAS FEW CUSTOM OPTION AND BATTERY IS GOOD BUT AIM HAS THAT CUSTOM OPTION AND A DECENT BATTERY SO I MOST OF THE TIME SUGGEST AIM BECAUSE THEY NEED CUSTOM OPTIONS...
Note:-Sorry if I said something bad about any ROM....I know building ROM is very difficult stuff...and we should respect their work....I totally do respect that thing guys....I just shared what I thought would help you guys....
DO THANK ME IF I HELPED YOU:good:
I will try ABC and Radon and See how it works. I am running AEX 7.1 with Radon and i use HDR setting and it runs at 30-60fps, the only Problem is heating. I was really surprised that i got this good performance on AEX, because I was getting huge lag in NOS

Elixir os oreo is good too but the project was shut down. I'm still using it with radon on my own gaming configurations and pubg goes as smooth as a hot knife in butter.
Try aex march build nougat yeah it is official ,no heating issues after 4hrs of pubg at balanced graphics ,the phone barely touched 40 Celsius ,just search for aosp extended nougat then do and download the latest build which is 4.6 march security patch and give it a try no use of custom kernel is required

With the following combination (AOSPEx 0417 build and Helix Engine) I'm getting a minimum of 6.5 hours SOT - I'm not joking...
https://downloads.aospextended.com/...5Y3dwQlNTcEI1VGlUODRDNGtjbXRHVkxUSURSQm9Rbz0=
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teamhelix.helixengine
P. S. I don't recommend any newer builds of AOSPEx currently, as the dev switched the kernel to EAS and hasn't tuned it properly yet.
I've included a screenshot of my current SOT, which is 3:20, at 41% battery usage...
please, as the link to build 0417 does not work, if you can put it back or say where it can be found?
Lineage 16 is the best

Yes i tried and it works
The best battery ROMs are often problematic because they cause stumbling in the interface.
I tried the Baikol ROM saying there is a battery saver but I couldn't try the setting because the settings part is in English.
AOSIP ROM is best for me.
I get an average of 4-5 hours of SOT.
You shouldn't expect a miracle anyway, it's a 1 hour SOT difference between all ROMs.
The important thing is that you need to take a look at which one meets your trouble.

Everything is OK.
I'm using Android 9 pie version.

What about your device's ROM?

Hey everyone! Which ROM you are using on your le max 2 for daily usage and why?
Latest AOSIP. Why: Oreo, everything works like a charm, it's fast and has a decent battery life (3-4hrs SOT, AccuBattery says the current battery capacity is 2750mAh)
Latest LineageOS, because it's simply most stable
EUI stock...'til now, marvelous
I have tried several roms and my favorite so far is AOSiP, its stable, fast and battery-friendly, although sometimes the animations don't feel smooth at all, but not really a problem for me
and also the boot animation is sick

Yes! I do really love sound enhancement of stock. It's really good ROM, everything works very cool. But old security patches and some more issues. But I can use stock ROM anytime for daily usage.

All other custom roms have the same bugs, because all of them are modified LineageOS.
The only difference - they keep adding their own bugs, not existing in Lineage.

But lineage os lags more than aex. Lineage has dynamic color contrast bug. Lineage heats too much. Lineage has YouTube playback bug. And these bugs are not in others. Am I missing something. And are these bugs solved.
I've been using AEX 0417 build for awhile now as it's quite stable, battery friendly, relatively bug free - as a matter of fact, I've not noticed any - and has a number of features I like. I've also checked out Dirty Unicorns 12.X and MSM Extended, both of which are very good, but weren't as battery friendly - this may have changed with the newest builds, though... ?

I don't actually know what do you mean. I'm not experiencing anyh lags or heat. Youtube works fine. I have no idea what is "dynamic contrast bug"?

Carbon 20180605 brings a nice functional minimalism with low battery drainage - 0.5%/hr in screen OFF mode,
and occasionally I charge the phone after 2 days (instead of everyday with other roms)

I tested Carbon for a evening once recently. Besides its gestures, which didn't appeal to me, I found it be a bit bland like Lineage really.
I can get 1%/4hr idle drain with that AEX build I mentioned, but I'm using Helix Engine power manager with it - it's available on the Play Store, by the way... ?

Best battery optimized rom?

Hello, so far i have tried pixel experience rom and despite battery last is not bad i feel miui made a great job allowing to restrict app energy almost completely with greats battery times. What is your opinion in choosing a rom mainly based on battery time?
PE is the best. Stay on PE
PE is worst ...miui rocks
I think that its's not the rom, it's the kernel. And the daily usage.
And the amount of background-activity apps.
The roms differences are in the level of customization and how frequently they are updated.
Mine for example is AOSiP. But PE and Syberia Project are good too... Also Havoc and Arrow... There are many...
I've tried a few myself, but I keep coming back to RR. It has very decent battery consumption out the box and has an array of tweaks to improve things.
With moderate usage I get a little more than 3 days out of a charge.

Absolutely agree with him.
For me RR is best. Had been using this Rom for years on many phones in my family.
Tested other roms in between but for me no Rom matched RR.

If you have rooted your phone, you can use greenify app. Its gonna hibernate your apps when not in use.
You are gonna have great battery time.

Pie
This is to summary my experience regarding battery comparing to a MIUI in a "office" use all in Pie:
1. Resurrection Remix
2. Pixel Experience
Currently triying AOSP

How was your journey? Did you find RR better than Pe? My battery is aging and just can't go over 4hs of sot in a day just needing good standby , currently naptime by franciscofranco gets the job done pretty well

Yes, the order of battery time is as follow without using battery saver which is good but background apps often get closed
1. RR 9
2. AOSEP 9
3. PE 9
