Mate 20 pro Always on display / Samsung like - Huawei Mate 20 Pro Questions & Answers

Hello guys,
i´m new to the mate 20 pro and have a question about the always on display function.
Is there any way to show the notifications of Facebook, Whatsapp etc. on the AOD like the Samsung devices have?
I only have notifications about SMS and Phone calls.
Thnaks a lot!

Only with 3rd party apps, the native Huawei AOD is pretty much useless on this. I'm using this one
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.used.aoe
There were some problems with notifications display on the M20Pro, but they have been solved a couple of weeks ago.

I tried to use this, but everytime i turn off the screen it would always ask for fingerprint verification. After that then the app works. any idea what settings i should change?

Yeh in the apps settings untick where it says fingerprint support, fingerprint will still work but you won't get that fingerprint screen popping up.

Love this app, but had to delete it. It drains my battery fast. Left the phone overnight for about 7 hours and the app consumed 7% of battery. Otherwise this app is an absolute necessity (for me at least) for AOD notifications

Exactly same for me, i love it but it drains too much battery. There are other things to try like lowering the brightness but still too much for me. Don't think it can be helped though as the screens always on just blacked out, so the phone can't go into doze mode.

I have tried Always on Amoled and Glance plus and both were just too battery hungry for me, not terrible but more of a hit than I am prepared to have.
I have wondered if a halfway house like edge lighting only would work. I could live with the AOD if the LED was not so small and dim too.

how much battery drain are people xperiencing? Samsung AOD is approx 2% per hour... is it much worse than that?

When I tried a few of these a while back it was really bad - minimum 4% per hour.

The one that I linked earlier in the thread used around 2 percent an hour, no where near 4 percent unless you set the maximum brightness. But for me even 2percent an hour was too much that's why on my previous Samsung phones, I switched aod off and just relied on the led light. The aod on this phone is bareable battery wise. But maybe its because it has a bigger battery.

It is very odd that Huawei thinks the current AOD is 'good enough', I mean surely no matter what the market people have a handful of 3rd party apps that are critical to see notification icons about. Why have AOD at all if it is going to be so gimped? I'm new to Huawei phones, but since they obviously understand cutting edge hardware it seems odd that they are so out of touch with some of the software end of things.

I need help, if possible. I found this app as by far best aod on mate 20x!
All is perfect but one bug is making it useless unfortunately. Im my bag, probably on touch, it show navigation bar (I use it because nova launch) in white color and it stays like this endless.
So not usability even all other is superb for me
Edit
It happens when swipe down from top, it shows status bar and navigation bar and they stay. When swipe from down, it appears short and dissappear
It seems I need disabling touch screen. Only fingerprint to work.

Sorry, I'd like to help, but can't really understand what you are saying. What app are you talking about?

My solution to sticky slider.

Whenever I try to unlock my streak, half the time I get the sticky slider then can't unlock it (even if I try shutting screen off then turning it back on) for a minute or two. It drove me crazy.
I noticed when I get it though, if I turn the screen off then turn the streak into portait position and turn the screen back on, no sticky slider
Hope this helps you guys.

It might be a screen calubration issue, i just calibrated my screen and will report bsck in a few days
You know, after moving from the iphone to Android I spent so much time playing with the lock screen, mainly because I could I guess. I installed Wigetlocker and had gotten my lock screen to the point where it was a regular work of art.
Then one day it dawned on me that if I wasn't using the lock screen for security (as in, with a code to unlock the phone), that there wasn't really a point in having one.
So, I installed "No Lock" from the Market, and I have never looked back. Now, when I hit the power button, the phone is just on. Works great, and I have experienced ZERO negative effects. The phone has never turned on in my pocket, and the screen lights up just fine when a call comes in. I don't miss my lock screen at all.
Sure, I still have to deal with a slider to answer a call, but that's a heck of a lot less often than every time I want to turn my device on to look at it.
Anyway, just a thought for those who might be tired of dealing with a sticky slider on the lock screen.

Weather alert. Have you seen this?

So we are having storms in the area and this popped up on my phone. I have never seen this before. Has anyone else? And if so what app is this coming from? I'm also on vigor 360 ROM but it seems to be a sense feature I think.

All Verizon phones are getting that feature. You can go into Messaging settings and disable them.
Whenever one shows on the Rez, my wife gets one on her VZW features phone, and I also get one on my work phone (Sprint BlackBerry). Stupid!
They are the cellular equivalent of the Emergency Alert System that cable providers must deliver. Even the president could send an emergency alert.

Don't know why anyone would "disable" weather alerts such as tornados but ok.. it also appears on the lock screen if you enable it in the weather settings (last block). It is not part of Google Now. Oh and yes I have seen it and like it..

I live in southern California where the weather is completely different if you travel more than 20 miles in each direction. Thunderstorms always hit a few miles west of me, while where I am we literally don't have weather, just hot and sunny every day. That's why I shut them off.

So if you don't have bad weather then I would asume you never get alerts so you disable it because... ?? makes no sense but ok..
Yup that's the CMAS thing. Annoying as heck, especially when you get them at like 4 in the morning -__- I was getting them constantly during Isaac, and on viperrez the emergency alerts menu is finicky so you have to open and close it a lot for anything to show up to disable it.

I was just giving you guys a hard time its all good. I like the feature. One night when having bad weather I got an alert of a tornado warning. Its pretty cool for those of use who have weather I just got up and turned on the TV to see what was up.
Oh I'm sure it's great if you actually get weather. I was getting severe thunderstorm watches every day for two weeks. It hasn't rained here in almost 4 months. Seriously, we literally don't get weather here, it's ridiculous... I miss snow.

[APP] Battery Alert - Notification if your watch battery is getting low on your phone

This is a simple app to get a notification on your watch and/or phone if your watch battery goes below a set point. In order for the app to work, make sure the app is installed on both your watch and phone and that you have opened both to establish the connection. You can then set the level you want to be alerted at and whether you want to be alerted on your phone or watch only. If you wish to only get alerts on your phone you need to block notifications for the app in Google's Wear OS app. This was mainly an app I wrote to try out Kotlin but I hope it is useful!
You can get it on the play store here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.turndapage.batteryalert
I have really been wanting a notification on my phone when my watch is done charging. Can you add a second alert for when the watch is charged? Guess I should try it before asking but didn't see this in the description ?

Just try the wear battery full above. I never find the need to check the battery level. But I need to know when it is charging or not. I use Automagic and setup up the sound to tell me when it is charging and show me the average percentage used since last charged. It takes quite a bit setup, but the simplest one require the least setup. And you can do a lot of other stuff with it too.

Agreed about the battery life. I have to charge at least twice a day, while my previous mi band 2 only once in 2 weeks. But can't help with it, I need wearOS. Hopefully next gen wear SoC can get much better life. At least last 2 full days in one charge.

I see there is a case on the official site that has an aod on part of the screen. If you look closely on the lower part of the aod you can notice a missed phone call and messages icons.
Any ideas on the case and why huawei aod would only work on that particular one?
Huawei going 'all in' with this flagship...surely any shortcomings people kick up a fuss about will get addressed in some fashion?
say that with no confidence. I only have the P10+ and...while it had a few updates; I never really downloaded them because it required me to back-up and re-boot unlock and re-root my phone #useless

Mate 20 Pro is much better
No 3rd party app notifications on such a powerhouse like Mate 20 pro, I was so disappointed when I got mine yesterday... I moved from G6 and really miss that. I have 2 weeks to return my device and I might do that and go back to G6 and see what the companies will offer in the spring. This is ridiculous that Mate 20 Pro does not support 3rd party notifications on their AOD. Really disappointed.

Digging deeper
Sorry just woke up.
So now that I am awake I did a little bit more digging.
Apparently what I am seeing is not what I thought...
I think...
It appears that they added a ring around the cutout now but it only appears when you are on the unlock screen and while you have facial recognition turned on for unlock.
No clue if this was present before. But still cool either way because that means that they have it working and can add it for notifications.
