H830 Sim card will not register on tmobile network, or any other: solved - LG G5 Questions & Answers

Yesterday I noticed that I had an er081 (no wifi calling). I thought it was a wifi issue at first, but I tried calling and had no network connection. It shows bars, but will never register the sim on the network. I thought my sim might be bad, but I popped it into an old phone and it worked fine. I tried to reset network to defaults, checked APN (which was greyed out so I could not edit, but looked correct). Then I gave in and did a factory reset in twrp which is super annoying since my phone was working perfectly. None of these things helped.
Any suggestions? I was going to try and upgrade to a newer stock, but I was actually already on the newest stock rom anyway (from august).
Tried
*#*#4636#*#*
I have an IMEI etc...I would post pictures, but that seems sort of like a bad idea. It seems from googling that this is a problem that used to be more common, but suggestions do not seem to work. I don't see how this can happen when SIM works fine on another phone.
I have installed the sim on a nexus 5x and a 6p, both worked. That makes me think hardware error, unfortunately, but I honestly do not see how that can happen if I can see all the networks and their signal strength etc...
Weirdly enough I borrowed someone else's sim card and tried it. Upon boot it said they had a new voicemail which made me think it was connected, but when I tried to call it said emergency calls only. It was like it connected for a second then got kicked off the network.

Ok so I found out the cause and I am an idiot sort of. My phone was marked as stolen. I could not log in b/c I could not verify with my phone number previously so I gave up on it and forgot to recheck when I got an old phone. Still sort of perplexing as I have zero idea how this happened. Could it occur somehow in a pocket? It seems highly unlikely. Anyway I am happy to be done with this, but sad to reset everything back up. Bleh...

NOT a unlock problem!! "your sim card does not allow a connection to this network"
Sorry i know this may or may not be related directly to the hero but i'm trying to sort out why it happens, so i can fix it.
My phone works fine at home, but when i get to work (and near) I lose data connection, then if i reboot i get the "your sim card does not allow a connection to this network".
This only has been happening for the last two days!! and had been working for months.
Any ideas as the network provider isn't much help?
BTW: the network shows in the "search networks" menu.
well signal and network connection has returned.
Strange thing is, when i checked the networks settings it has automagically changed to "wcdma only" i've changed it back to auto and it disconnected then reconnected fine.
Hmmmm.....????
I'm sorry to tell you this, but the phone has been IMEI blacklisted.

If that were the case it would not work anywhere. The OP reports that the phone works fine from home. He alsl reports that the network connection has returned. Neither of these would happen if the IMEI had been blocked.

ignore that clown
Sounds like the cells in that area may be having some issues, call the network and advise they should be able to take some examples and check the metrica type reporting systems most networks use. This will show alarms triggered by the cell itself and allow the fault to be fixed or reset.
When ever you have an issue and it only happens in one area as its a radio network the issue wont be handset related. In very rare cases certain radio roms can have issues depending on equipment on the base station but its very rare.
Don't worry, I'm not gullible enough to believe him!! Admittedly though that was my first thought before realizing it still worked when i got back home, as the network denied all knowledge of there being a problem. Next I thought maybe it was something to do with my sim......but anyway i never really found out.
I just think it was a bit suspicious that after many calls to the provider and nothing, i thought i'd try again and as i was talking to the 2nd line support it magically appeared back on the network and they said it wasn't them??? hmmm...
If i was to take a guess I think i may have had poor reception in a supposedly good reception area for a while and i had been blocked from connecting via gsm and only 3g (is it wcdma?) or something like that. (i've heard similar has happened to others in the past).
@Anarchyuk: thanks for your insight, its nice to find out how the operators and systems work.
I have found that if I am in an area with no phone reception when I switch from standby i get a warning sign with a picture of the SIM card crossed out and a message suggesting that my SIM card is not working. That is very misleading - all it means is that I have no reception, but my SIM is fine!
I paniced a bit when I first saw it (in an inner office within a large building in a weak reception area) but trial and error has shown it is misleading and I now just ignore it.
Yep, that's normal behavior as far as i'm aware.
The problem i had was completely different, but yes that threw me the first time i saw it as it doesn't obviously look like purely no signal.

This fixed my issue completely. I was set on GSM only and set it to auto, everything came back at once!

Data is dead after removing and reinserting sim. Help?

I have been running custom roms on my droid since the root explot was first discovered, and I have a rooted xoom as well. Last night I rooted my thunderbolt and installed the debloated rom. I don't think it is even related to my problem, as it still worked fine after doing this, but I thought it was worth mentioning. I removed the sim card today, just to prove to my brother that it did indeed have a sim, and after reinsertation, my thunderbolt has not been able to connect to a data network. I do not live in a 4g area, and I have tried reseating the sim several times. I can make phone calls, wifi works fine, but I cannot get the 3g icon, and the browser won't load if not on wifi.. I'm starting to get scared. I can't think of anything else to try. Any suggestions?
EDIT 1: I have intermittent 1x data, but I never get 3g. And when I say intermittent, I mean I get it like right after a call for maybe a minute, then it goes away.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
I had this same issue as well when I removed and reinserted my SIM card. When I booted back up I was stuck on 1xRTT. After making a call, they phone locked back on to LTE and everything was good after that. If it still isn't working I would recommend giving Verizon a call. They may be able to reactivate it. I did notice that the problem persisted even though I flashed a couple different roms on the device. I'm thinking it probably isn't a great idea to remove and insert the SIM if you don't have to.
Just an update,
I spent 2.5 hours at the effing verizon store today after spending an hour on the phone. Even after all that time, and giving me a new SIM, they STILL couldn't get my TB to connect to 3g. They said that it might magically start working at midnight for no particular reason, but had no clue what to do (I was actually at a corporate store btw) If it doesnt start working tonight, I am going back tomorrow. I have no idea what the hell is up. I am very tech savvy, and this is just insane. It must be a verizon problem in my area that it wont let the phone reactivate for the 3g/4g

[Q] At&t Galaxy SII unable to read the sim card

Hi All,
I have a Galaxy SII, which I rooted and flashed with ICScrewD ‬‬‬‬‬♦‬♦♦‬♦Homemade Ice Cream
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1375255
It worked fine for a couple of days, now all of a sudden I am not getting any signal on my phone, and instead of the signal bars I am getting the no network symbol. I tried different modems, different ROMs, doesn't seem to work. I even went back to the stock, but no luck.
When I went to the wifi & network settings and tried to click on the network settings it says "insert sim card" even though the sim is already in there. I tried my sim on a different phone, it works fine. So i am guessing its not At&t's fault.
Has anyone else had the same problem? Any help is greatly appreciated.
When you re-inserted your sim card back in your GS2, what happened? Is it an old sim and are the contacts worn and scratched?
The contacts are just fine. Even when i reinsert it nothing happens, I still get the no network symbol. It is basically behaving like no sim is inserted.
Well it sounds like a trip to an AT&T store might be in your future to test another SIM card. Hopefully that's all it is. Wifi radio works fine?
Try reflashing back to stock?
The wifi works just fine, and i tried flashing it back to stock, did a factory reset also, but nothing seems to work.
I have not dropped my phone even once, so that rules out the physical damage.
Well not sure this will help *fix* the issue, but might provide a bit more insight into what exactly the phone is and isn't seeing. If you download Elixir 2, linked below, and run a report and send it to yourself via email, look in the Telephony section of the report and see if the phone even sees the SIM card. Obviously it sounds like it doesn't, but if it gives you your SIM serial info in there, you might be able to rule out an issue with the actual card itself, etc.

Nope, it says sim state is unknown, I guess i will have to go to the At&t store then.
Thanks anyways.

Cant make receive calls/texts

Recently bought a second hand S3 on the UK three network and used a unlock code as on t-mobile/orange. It was working fine but recently it stopped sending and receiving calls and texts. Data usage is fine. Not sure when this happened as mainly use it for data as have a works phone. Can remember doing a software update (think to jelly bean) recently but couldn't say whether its started after that. Have used my cut down sim in the wifes S3 and it works okay and put her sim in miner and that has same issue. When I try to call it immediately ends call and texts just fail. Have tried setting to network manually both 2g and 3g and auto, sometimes it say cant register and other times it does but when call ends it then seems to change to another available network. Started to think the imei may have been blocked but wouldn't expect data to work. Anyway rang t-mobile and they said everything looks okay their end and the imei is not black listed but not sure how they could tell that. Said the issue must be with my phone. Have emailed samsung to see what they say but not to hopeful with it being a second hand phone. The bars on the signal seem okay too.
Anybody got any idea's on what to try or do as its currently an expensive data only device. :crying:
Have already tried a factory reset.

If it's not your imei number. Did you have a backup of your efs folder?

Didn't have a backup of anything, why? One thing I have noticed is that the sim card doesn't click into the slot. compared it against the wife s3 and the sim card doesn't go as far down as if something is blocking it. Tried my sim in the wifes s3 only putting it in the same distance and it worked fine. Anyway just in case I took some of the plastic off the bottom right up to the metal chip so it would sit in the right place not being all the way down but it still does not work. Whilst having the sim in the wifes phone I diverted all calls to my works mobile and when back in my s3 its shows as calls being diverted so it must be working up to a point. Not sure whats wrong with the sim card slot, the mechanism which you push to insert and release seems to be broken so not sure if this is the cause or just a knock on effect from taking the sim card in and out alot
.
Can the sim card slot/mechanism be replaced/fixed easily?

[Q] Stuck with a disappearing APN problem

Yesterday I bought an i717, an unlock code so I can get it working on T-Mobile, and put the newest Cyanogenmod nightly on it.
I noticed that my data speed was stuck on Edge and found out with some searching that this was common problem. I went to this thread and have followed it's instructions but now I've hit a wall and can't figure it out.
I've flashed both the radios that should work but am getting no working results. Can anyone offer me a hand with this? I would greatly appreciate it.
I don't have T-Mobile but suggest try different ROM. Also make sure have most recent twrp

I'll give that a shot, thanks
Thanks for the reply. I tried all that, new TWRP and all kinds of different ROMs but the problem persists. I did notice one thing however, and that was when the phone had the ROM flashed on it, brand new (like just after a factory reset), 4G worked really well. That is up until I turned the wifi on. Turning the wifi back off, and/or restarting, and/or clearing cache and dalvik will not get the 4G connection back. I'm at a loss. Also if I try flashing a different radio I'll have the disappearing APN problem. So for now I'm stuck with EDGE.
What other options could fix this? Could the build prop be making a fuss? I don't really know where to go.
It sounds like your sim isn't a 4g provisioned sim. The APN would stick if the sim was appropriate.

I think my SIM is provisioned, it works fine in any other phone from tmobile. in my gs2 I had it worked fine. that was a few days ago.

Tho I guess a new SIM card could be worth a shot.
This is "The Answer Post"
I got it! It was in the mobile network options. Since this is an ATT phone with an ATT radio I had to think a little differently, since I'm used to T-Mobile settings. The "Data Roaming" and "National Data Roaming" check boxes were unchecked. Again, being an ATT radio I guessed that these needed to be on. Once doing that I went down to network operators to manually select "T-Mobile" as my network. Once I did, voila! 4G connectivity now works like a charm.
Just wanted to let the internet know, in case someone else needs this.
Good save!
