We have been stuck at 5.7" since Note 3, could easily have been up to 6" by now.
Crikey Nexus 6 which came out alongside Note 4 had a 6" screen.
I still have the Note 4 and will be looking at other makes for a 6 inch+ QHD screened phone even if it comes at the expense of loosing the SD card.
Flat scratch proof screen as Moto Z - I don't buy the Edge concept - .

IR Blaster
6GB Ram
Snapdragon 830-821-823 faster cpu for a more bloated phone.
New UFS Micro SD std instead just uhs (a big miss considering precisely Samsung just introduced the first UFS micro sd to the market) .
I rally don't care about 3.5mm audio jack I'll prefer am bigger battery instead, 4000mah to be happy.

Who's everyone? Until the tech changes bigger batteries = bigger devices. It's been more than proven people want trimmer and lighter phones. The Note7's waterproof, smaller than the Note5, and has a bigger battery than the Note5 all squeezed in to less space than the S7 Edge because of the silo to accommodate the S Pen. Based on the way Android manages memory, what's the extra 2GB of RAM going to do? The OnePlus 3 has 6GB of RAM and users have a choice of more background apps open and ****ty battery life or vice versa. USB-C and/or 3.1 is a benefit only to those still using cables. The only time I use a cable anymore is to connect my phone to my car because it's an Android Auto requirement; but that's just me. Point is "everyone" wants something different and the 99% of people that buy phones and aren't on XDA don't care about the same things we do or value them differently.

I've had the Nwxus 6 for a while now, and while I miss the S-Pen from my Note 2 and 3, it would be very difficult to move to a smaller screen and speaker(s) that are not front-facing.
And if this Note 7 is locked down like the Note 4 (reason why I stopped buying Samsung in the first place), then I'll have to pass on this one as well.

Not really unless I'm missing something. The Note7's waterproof, has a larger display, and a silo for the S Pen and the same size battery. Yet it's shorter and narrower and only .9mm thicker and 6g heavier than the Moto Z Force. Kind of points to Samsung being a master of packaging.

It's all about trade-offs. My bank is one that's signed on for Samsung Pass so I can use the Iris Scanner for banking. That's pretty cool (to me) and it's a smartphone first. Between the Note5 and Note7 I've lost nothing. I've gained waterproofing, a bigger battery, a better camera, a slimmer design, external storage, an iris scanner, a faster more efficient CPU/GPU, more S Pen tools, a curved screen, and an updated UI. It's also the first Samsung device to support USB-C but I'm 95% wireless so that's not a big get for me. I've had every Note since the Note II and over time I've lost external storage, replaceable batteries, FM radio, and an IR blaster. When you add it all up I've gotten far more than I've lost which is why I stick with Samsung.
I get through the day on my Note5 so with the efficiencies of S-820 and the 500 mAh larger battery I'll be better off with the Note7. A bigger battery, at least using today's tech, means a bigger phone. If asked, I'd prefer a smaller footprint over a larger battery. Others may differ. Samsung pulled SD cards last year and brought them back. They obviously misjudged the market when they made that decision. They reversed it this year and S7 sales climbed in a down and saturated market. The S7 Edge with its 3,600 mAh battery accounts for over 50% of all S7-series sales. So people seem OK with that combination of size and battery capacity. The Note7's 3,500 mAh battery is about 2.5% smaller. That's pretty inconsequential because if you go below 5% on either phone they're going to fail over to power save mode and you won't be able to see the screen anyway. If battery size (2,915 mAh on the iPhone 6S+) was such a big deal people wouldn't be buying massive quantities of iPhones which don't even support quick charging 3 years after it was introduced and wireless charging two years later. Apple's about to pull the headphone jack on the iP7. It's a consumer unfriendly move but do you think people will stop buying iPhones because of it?
People want different things and OEMs like Samsung shoot for the middle. Sometimes they fail like with the removal of external storage. Sometimes they win by bringing it back and re-introducing waterproofing. (S7). There's an old adage, "you can't please all the people all the time."

Coming from the S7E the N7 doesn't seem impressive at all to me. I guess if I was coming from the N5 then I would have been impressed. As I said, I get the feeling that these Android companies are holding back on purpose. I wish I could stand iOS, I would have moved to the iPhone 6S Plus in a heartbeat.

Samsung aren't targeting people who upgraded 6 months ago to the S7, their primary target are majority of ordinary users on a 24 month upgrade cycle (from the Note 4), and enthusiasts who may upgrade from the Note 5, and for both groups I think the Note 7 represents a decent all round upgrade.
In terms of my wishlist, I would have preferred a larger battery even if it meant a thicker chassis.

I wouldn't worry about battery life. Seeing how well Samsung optimize their S8 and S8+, I think the Note 8 will have the same battery life as the S8+ or just a little less.
If they offer a trade in program similar to the S8, then I will trade in my Note 5 for it.
Yeah, I still have my Note7. Gonna return it (get my refund hopefully) and get the Note8.
Couple of problems with the renders he leaked (that all the blogs are quoting) and the stats. First would be that the screen ratio and size along with all the top mounted sensors cant be correct. His leaked renders show the various sensors more than half an inch below the top of the phone which is too far to allow for the screen size/width. They're actually further down than they are on the S7 or Note 7 which would make the bezel free design that in theory should be mimicking the language of the S8 impossible. The width of the phone and the battery capacity also don't jibe. Even accounting for the volume of the stylus the phone is shown thicker than it should be with the stated battery size. I'm not completely discounting these latest rumors but something has to give somewhere, his renders cant possibly match the stats he is quoting so something is not correct.
As to will I buy, I love the Note series but I hate rear mounted fingerprint sensors. Yeah, I've had several of them and I like them less every time I own one. I'm seriously conflicted at this point.
Not without a 4K Display. If the Note 8 truly lacks a 4K display, will get a Note 7 back or if its too expensive too, I will get an edge 7, and wait till a 4K display phone comes up with Amoled. (unlike sony's lcd 4K display which is absolute trash for VR).

So I've ventured back to android again wanting somewhat of a break from ios.
I decided to take the plunge on the note 10 but discovered that the majority of users don't get the snapdragon varient.... Which was some what of an annoyance considering it seems to be the better performing chip!
I've ordered a 7t Pro which arrives In the next few days and I'll highly expect I'll be returning the note.
Has anyone else come from the new note or tried it compaired to the 7tp?
For my uses (Gaming, Quick point and shoot camera, large screen) it makes massively more sense over the note 10.
Also... That refresh rate :victory:

Also - does anyone know if you can somehow stream the phone to Windows like the note can
I have a Note 10+5G. The 7T Pro is much smoother scrolling. I also prefer the color on the 7T pro. The one big advantage to the Note is the screen size. My work phone is a S10+ and that's closer to the 7T Pro size. Disadvantage of the Samsung phones is the horrible Bixby and UI. I prefer a closer to stock Android experience. I'm keeping both for now.

Well, the Note+ is 6.8" and the 7T Pro is 6.4". Not that big a difference but it seems bigger.
As to why plan to keep both... I've been buying 1+ phones since the beginning. I like the stability of the Samsung phones as daily drivers but like to mess with ROM's so I keep the Note for daily use and mess with the 7T Pro in my spare time. Also, I have an issue with buying the latest/greatest phones Since I never pay retail for a phone, and keep them in perfect condition, I sell many on Swappa and don't really lose much money. I don't make money but spending 50 bucks to play with a new phone for 3-6 months is worth it for me. It's basically my only hobby.

After having the OnePlus now, is agree that the note still feels a lot bigger...I think it's the width that gives it that feeling.
Anyway ... Major remorse.... Note 10 plus was just the nicer feeling phone.

I feel the 7T Pro McLaren is a better overall device. Just wish I could get it on VZW's network. TM is horrible in my area.
I've been coming down the same road, currently staying with the Note10+, though.
I agree with the comments above that the 7TP is generally smoother and faster in handling, at least from the feeling. Actual game or app loading times are pretty comparable. My Note10+ is with Exynos CPU and it is less performant than the 855+, especially in graphic-intense applications like COD. A surprise was camera, as the Note10+ camera is in my opinion inferior to the one on the 7TP with GCAM.
As for size while the phones are pretty comparable in size the Note10+ screen "feels" bigger, maybe due to the more squareish appearance and the less pronounced curve in the edges . The 7TP is nicer in handling due to its more rounded corners, though.
I'll stay on the Note10+ for the time being and wait for the OP8...

If this is asked, I didn't see it but I wanted to ask the guys using the P6 before I decide which way I'm going, are you happy with the 6 or would trade up for the P6 Pro?
And if so, I'm curious about why or why not?? The extra $300 is a little harder to swallow 2 months after buying a house in an inflating economy...

They're the why's, for me I wouldn't touch it because I have an irrational hatred of curved screens, they turn me into the Hulk. Oneplus 7t Pro and 8 Pro taught me that.
I love the 6, it has some niggles (fp sensor for starters) but overall it's good
I haven't seen a 6 Pro yet but the 6 is about as big a phone as I would be comfortalbe with. Nothing about the Pro would make me want to have a phone bigger and heavier than the 6. (Note I always use a case)
I've been using a P6 for the weekend and I know I would have used the telephoto lens a couple of times if I had it. Either one would be the biggest phone I've ever had and the P6 (without a case for the moment) isn't too bad in my pocket. I have no preconceived notions about flat vs curved screens and I use the front camera maybe a dozen times in a year. I am having a wifi turning off issue on the 6 so tackling that first. If I have to swap the phone because of the wifi turning off and Pro was available I'd probably pay the extra and take the Pro.

I've been using my p6 for 6 days now and I'm loving it! I am thankful to not have a bad screen (at least not noticeably bad enough to rma but also not quite as good as my OnePlus 6t) and I haven't had these wifi issues you're mentioning. I didn't copy any data over from previous phone just set it up as new and manually added accounts and apps. Sometimes I feel this will introduce little software bugs that could be like what you're describing? Might give it a reset and try again?
As to the question, I would have liked the p6pro but I've never spent more than $250 on a phone (got them all used in the past) so this was already the most expensive phone I've owned and couldn't justify the extra expensive for just a telephoto camera.
To me the 6P is just to big. Hell the 6 is too big but I'll live with it. I don't mind how tall it is but I do wish it were a little narrower. That's what I loved about my OP8. In fact if it weren't for my desire to finally own a phone with a good camera I wouldn't have left the 8.
I went with the P6. Like you I simply couldn't bring myself to spend 50% more on the P6P. Sure it has some nicer features, but it simply isn't worth the 50% premium IMHO.
P6P Pros
- bigger screen: nice, but the P6 isn't a slouch either. I came from a 3a XL, so the P6 screen size was already an upgrade.
- telephoto lens: this is the one feature that I will truly miss, but in the end it just isn't worth the extra cost.
- mmWave 5g: unless you live in one of the largest cities in America AND frequent high density locations like sports arena and airports, this simply is a waste. mmWave techology is terribly short range and it is never going to be used as the primary backbone for 5g service. It is going to be/has been installed at these high density locations and that's it. AT&T and Verizon have both bought more mid range 5g frequencies now and will shifting their networks to these frequencies after realizing how poorly a mmWave 5g network was going to perform.
- 120hz screen refresh rate: unless you are coming from a phone that had 120hz, you aren't going to notice a difference using a 90hz refresh rate like the P6 has. If you are coming from a 120hz phone, you might be disappointed going down to a 90hz screen.
P6P Cons
- Battery: even with it's larger battery capacity, the P6P seems to have worse overall battery performance than the P6 (partly due to the mmWave modem and 120hz refresh rate)
- Cost: 50% more than the P6
Other factors
- Size: Personally 5mm on the height of the phone isn't a big deal. I laugh every time I read when someone says the P6 size is OK, but the P6P is HUGE! I'm like, "It's 5mm (half a centimeter) in height, that's it". The width (which is the only size that makes a difference as far as holding it in one hand) is basically the same between the P6 and P6P.
- Curved Screen: most people either love it or hate it. It's all personal preference. To me it's not a deciding factor one way or another.
I was planning on the Pro, but tried both out and am getting the 6. The telephoto is super nice on the Pro, but I found the curved screen really awful in the hand. A case might fix that, but would also block edge of screen. I thought about mmWave, which T-mobile theoretically has some in Seattle, is is really the mid-band stuff that is important with them. The 6 is just much nicer in the hand and I couldn't see a difference in resolution at arm's length.
The curved screen kills it for me.
I went to Best Buy and played with both for about 20 minutes the other day, along with my 4XL. First I used the pro, but as soon as I went to the 6 standard I knew that was it. The flat screen and the edges just make the 6 standard feel good in the hand.

P6P Pros
- bigger screen: nice, but the P6 isn't a slouch either. I came from a 3a XL, so the P6 screen size was already an upgrade.
- telephoto lens: this is the one feature that I will truly miss, but in the end it just isn't worth the extra cost.
- mmWave 5g: unless you live in one of the largest cities in America AND frequent high density locations like sports arena and airports, this simply is a waste. mmWave techology is terribly short range and it is never going to be used as the primary backbone for 5g service. It is going to be/has been installed at these high density locations and that's it. AT&T and Verizon have both bought more mid range 5g frequencies now and will shifting their networks to these frequencies after realizing how poorly a mmWave 5g network was going to perform.
- 120hz screen refresh rate: unless you are coming from a phone that had 120hz, you aren't going to notice a difference using a 90hz refresh rate like the P6 has. If you are coming from a 120hz phone, you might be disappointed going down to a 90hz screen.
P6P Cons
- Battery: even with it's larger battery capacity, the P6P seems to have worse overall battery performance than the P6 (partly due to the mmWave modem and 120hz refresh rate)
- Cost: 50% more than the P6
Other factors
- Size: Personally 5mm on the height of the phone isn't a big deal. I laugh every time I read when someone says the P6 size is OK, but the P6P is HUGE! I'm like, "It's 5mm (half a centimeter) in height, that's it". The width (which is the only size that makes a difference as far as holding it in one hand) is basically the same between the P6 and P6P.
- Curved Screen: most people either love it or hate it. It's all personal preference. To me it's not a deciding factor one way or another.

I think I'm gonna do that this weekend and see how they feel. THat extra $300 bucks is a tough pill to swallow for only a handful of differences

I actually was thinking I would get the pro, but using them both in person changed my decision pretty quick. The 6 just felt way more "Pixel" than the pro.
Please, convince me on not buying the Pro...
I have the S21 Ultra so didn't need the zoom ,120hz and so the extra 300 for the Pro were not worth the hassle.
Also the 6 has everything else the same and in the UK you got the bose 700 headphones on preorder regardless which you got.
So it was a no brainer for me.
If you are not a camera person the Pixel 6 is the way to go.
Also compared to the Pro the S21 Ultra is a better buy with 10x zoom and the Spen feature and you probably get it cheaper now.
Didn't think it was worth $300 more.
The Pixel 6 Pro has curved screen edges while the Pixel 6 is a flat screen which is what I prefer.
Curved screen. Have an actual camera so the $300 for the telephoto did not seem economic.

Yeah the telephoto would be cool in certain situations and there's been a few times already I wish I had it, but not enough to justify an extra $300 and having to put up with the screen edges and extra bulk.
Physically the Pixel 6 is a nearly identical in size to my Pixel 2 XL, just a smidgen heavier.
Size. Pro is too big.

In the UK the price difference is £300, which is over $400. Crazy amount to justify the additional zoom and screen differences.
I also prefer the black frame look to the metallic sides of the Pro.
improved battery live over the Pro. Often I ask keep asking myself the same question and so far come back to the same conclusion. It would be really cool to have a flagship phone with the beautiful curved and larger screen and the additional camera feature. But then it's $300 more for that and the additional RAM. I've had an S21 Ultra before and sometimes miss the large smooth screen.
If there had been a difference in the processor I would have definitely picked the Pro.

I bought both to compare to each other and send back one within the return window.
I like the size of the 6 better, and the color of the sorta sea foam. The 6 screen wasn't as responsive out of the box but now for some reason feels more fluid.
The audio is important to me as I use phones with Viper4android with high end gear and both phones sound the same in that dept, almost better than my S21 Ultra, which until now was the best sounding phone to me.
Weird that Pixel doesn't have dolby like Samsung and One Plus phones.
Mostly price, but also size and flat screen.
Price was too much for me, don't care about telescopic lens, phone is too big for me, and lastly the curved edges make it difficult to find a good reliable glass screen protector.
As of now, not even Whitestone Dome has come up with a glass screen protector and they make great glass screen protectors for screens with curved edges.
The Pixel 6 is about the same size as previous Pixel XL devices which makes it the perfect size for me. The regular sized Pixel was fine for me back then too but the small battery along with not being able to see very well when having two windows open is a deal breaker for me.
Mainly price and being a flat screen device.

The bigger question for me is why I got a Pixel 6 and not a lower end phone. I never even considered the pro because:
A) Price
B) I preferred a even smaller, not larger phone.
C) Camera was of minimal concern for me because I rarely use a cell phone for 'real' pictures - I have a mirrorless APS-C camera for that. Cell phone pics are more for in store "which item should I get?" type pics.
D) Coming from a 60Hz screen, 90Hz was already an upgrade.
E) I am not a gamer, and don't push my phone hard, so extra RAM was not necessary.
D) According to reviews, real world battery life on the regular model is suppose to be better. (I assume the bigger higher res screen on the pro is the main reason)
I came from a Pixel 4 XL which became a sweet spot size wise for me. The Pixel 6 is very comparable in size to the Pixel 4 XL so that and the price is what made me buy the 6 over the 6 Pro.
If I hadn't needed the 512 GB version of the Pixel 6, which is only in Pro, I would have strongly considered the regular 6. I don't regret having the Pro except for the curved screens, but I knew it would.
I had never seen a Pro until yesterday, but it only took me 10 seconds for me to know I made the right choice. I don't like the curved screen and although it is slightly taller, it didn't appear to be any wider than the regular 6.
