ROOT. - Xiaomi Mi 9 Guides, News, & Discussion

I have read on GizmoChina that Root will not be made possible by Xiaomi.
I hope it's not the case.
EDIT: ROOT IS POSSIBLE BY MAGISK....

Wow really?? Could you provide a link to this?
Surely this won't be the case. Though is this potentially meaning that bootloaders won't be unlockable?

Here is the source.... Second part,
https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/02/...g-to-blacklist-uncertified-apps-installation/

Hmm will be keeping a close eye on this and holding off until ordering until I know for sure.
I jumped ship to the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and whilst I LOVED the hardware, not being able to unlock the bootloader and/or root, was a big deal breaker
Fingers crossed for this!

Says nothing about the rumor of non root. This is about whitelisting apps.
On the other hand the kernel source is released so that should be a good sign. I guess?

360 hours so equates to 15 days.
Just 14 left for me now! going away for 1 week so that's half the waiting time

Will root only be possible after the unlock period has passed? I guess everyone with a new device has to wait!

As far as I understand, we indeed need to wait! Some are lucky and are able to unlock their devices with their older Miui accounts

It's a great phone so I'm not too upset we have to wait! I've only charged it once since Monday! Root on this will be amazing, I want to run L Speed, Greenify and all AMOLED black with substratum

Might as well start the unlock process now since it has such a long wait. Dont have to install TWRP or custom ROM at first, can leave it running stock but just ready to unlock.

Is it being devolped yet?

Benefits of B322 over B309

Dear HAM2 users, I am currently on b309 and would like to update to b322 but hate re-installing all apps again. Hence I am reluctant so far for that reason.
Is there big difference in performance between b309 and B322?
Will there be another update to b322 or this is it?
The fact that everyone hasn't received ota update gives me impression that this is not final yet.
Is it worth the effort to update now or should I wait a few more weeks.
Thanks.

Does that mean this is the final release and Huawei has completed the Lollypop official release?
I read somewhere there may be another update to this.

Amazing two letters can mean soooo much. Lol
Not sure why people continue to rag on Huawei. They released LP on the HAM. They did a bunch of updates and then released B322. It seems to be working pretty damn good. They may release updates as they see fit. Think we should be happy we got LP quite frankly on this device. Then again, some people are never happy.

Not releasing KK and then being late releasing LP was very likely not making people happy from what I gathered reading the HAM2 forum here.
I just my mega HAM2 a few days ago . Waiting for Huawei to sent me my bootloader unlock code ( I was not one of the people who received a response withing hours ) so I can root my LP upgraded phone and hopefully Xposed framework will be working on the HAM2 in the not too distant future.

Doubtful. The only reason they released L to start with was because SOOO many people raised hell about it. Basically killing any hope of selling a lot of people devices in the future. And anyone researching huawei would see that failure. Again this isn't a successful business practice. I highly doubt any more updates... Unless its a major security flaw. Having CM support boosted the chance people may buy huawei stuff again. But only slightly. There is obviously fanboys of huawei.. Just like Apple has its lemmings. For huawei though that isn't a significant number of users. One can only hope they Learnd a lesson this time. As Scoots said. IF... Time will tell.

LOL @Moody66...and there are the people who try their best to try and create as much fud and rhetoric as possible. We'll just see how popular Huawei is when they release the new Nexus and people who claimed they would never, ever use their products again and continue to post things like this, trip over themselves to buy one.

No. They have not.
They said mid-March.
Have a little patience.
I thought I was SOL when I stupidly updated to 5.0 without checking if you could keep root, or if there even was root. This would be awesome.
I was literally just looking to potentially get a new phone, was thinking of ditching samsung altogether for nexus, until I realized they don't use microsd (plus no stylus, I actually use that thing and the stylus app at work).
If I can root again I'll definitely hold on to the phone longer, and I would definitely donate a bit if it's through paypal, as this would save me a lot of money not upgrading for now.
Thanks for the hard work, guys, hope it works out.

Hi,
This seems to be a really really good news...
BUT it has to be mentioned that this source doesn't seem to be released by Xiaomi themselves.
So before we start ranting about it, I think it would be wise to wait to see if this is for real of if it is some kind of "generic" thing
If it's "generic" it will work... not a problem. But some things might not (because of missing driver if it's "unofficial"). And some will work but not exactly as they should (i.e. : battery life that will drain too much).
I'm waiting (patiently) and hoping for this to come true !!!!
Regards.

When will we see custom development?

Hey guys,
since I don't know how well or quickly the Xiaomi community is working, I was wondering when you think we will see the first custom ROMs and Kernels.
Especially an OC Kernel, I could imagine, would improve the experience on this phone alot.
Thanks!
It will take long time cause of accessibility problems. Very long.
Probably never.
Ah surely
Without jokes, there Will be custom developement in mid future?
No. Not before mid 2020

You can install any keyboard. I love GBoard, but you can use SwiftKey or whatever you want.
Just search for "Keyboard" in Play Store. If you want something very "raw", look for keyboards in F-Droid.
I spoke with some of the developers of custom roms and no one is interested in developing for this phone.
It really seems like there won't be any custom rom/kernel anytime soon and probably, maybe, never.
We will ahvr to stick to the stock rom.
Anyone interested in starting a reward campaign here?
First fully functioning custom rom gets the cash bounty
I'm putting in $10
Is that a feature? I would defo be willing to throw in some money!

Thanks for your information sir, could i ask why they are not interested in developing for this phone? Personally i think is a pretty interesting hardware
As MoneyFist, I also would donate for a good featured custom ROM ?
I don't understand why there are people saying we will not get custom roms. I think, the main reason for now, is that we have no sources, or I least I can't find them. Once we have sources, devs will be able for, at least, compile something
Sources have been released a while ago. I think once the phone will be widely available in India, we will see devs creating stuff...hopefully.

Development Woes Black Shark

Just checked the specs of this device and it suddenly averted my plans of purchasing an Asus ROG Phone 2 given the specs and features it offers - and considering that that device doesn't have any working Custom Roms (hey the reason we're here at xda). Now question is, is this device series famous enough to warrant the attention of the devs here? Considering that the Black Shark 2 doesn't have any working roms, even at this point, am I asking for a miracle? Would like to hear your thoughts fellas. Thanks

Hoping for TWRP, decrypt, and Magisk. That's enough to get a 7.1" phone (real objective). Stylus is a bonus.
I really do hope we get root. I'm planning to get one soon simply cuz it seems like the best option for gaming or watching watching movies. Even if the ROG phone 3 comes out later, it won't be any significantly better except the bigger battery but the charging on this phone certainly makes up for that.
I have the same concerns as OP. Currently have a Pixel 4XL and was thinking of moving to the OnePlus 8 Pro. However, this phone seems promising but it would probably be a deal breaker if there isn't any development for it. I'd love to see root with an AOSP ROM.
Just goes to show how appreciative we should be of the developers making all these goodies for us noobs

I agree. With the current issues going around OnePlus display issues, and that really high price tag coupled with the fact that I game alot and OnePlus tends to heat up rather quickly and gets hot to the touch real quick (currently running a 6T) I decidedly to pull the trigger on the Blackshark 3 pro instead. Really hoping for development here, as I think it's a fantastic device that's largely underrated.

The issue is mainly blackshark not allowing a bootloader unlock rather than anything else. If we get a supportive community I think it's possible overtime. I'd really just be happy with magisk and a few mods. The phone is already really fast and has great battery life (if you pair it with the 65W charger)

Too expensive. Guy is charging $80 for bootloader unlock, root and rom switch. All of which can be done for free if and when we can get the tools. Not worth it

Blackshark will never publish anything , the guy is an engineer at black shark and doing it secretely , so i think it worth it because we dont have any other solution
You can ask him to lower the price or only unlock and i will provide you twrp to root

In the meantime if it's no trouble can you please make a thread and tell us how well magisk is working and what modules are working etc. It might encourage other people to look to this option for rooting. We need more people on board if we want any kind of development.

Damn, and here I am, ready to purchase the K30 Pro Zoom instead. As the K20 Pro premium that came before it had lots of development going on.
How I wish black shark was the same. ?

K30 pro is a great phone. Well, I'm happy that root is AT LEAST possible, too bad paying is the only option we have rn for Black Shark. I still think the BS3 is a great phone despite low development but the choice is yours buddy
