DNG can't be used on anything except main camera for Pro mode - Samsung Galaxy S10 Guides, News, & Discussion

Sadly, DNG (RAW) only appears to work on the main camera.
When you're in Pro mode, the wide-angle and telephoto lenses aren't available to shoot with.
It's frustrating that this is still a limitation. Perhaps Samsung are embarrassed about the RAW images from their telephoto?
Guess I'll be looking at the Mate P20 Pro which does allow DNG on all cameras :/

Maybe its working with third party apps? Are they any that allow to switch between cameras? ProShot maybe?

Are there any solutions? No way to have RAW pics with wide camera?

It works in Hedgecam 2, apparently it works in open camera too though I couldn't work out out.

HedgeCam 2 only supports raw from the main sensor, not the wide or zoom sensors.
You can use HEIC on all sensors instead of JPG for possibly a very minor increase in colour fidelity when pushed but nothing like raw.
It's a shame that Samsung doesn't open it up. I do miss that feature from the p30 pro I had before, lots of creative possibilities in Lightroom. (the s10 takes better JPGs out of camera though)

Gcam Latest MGC and Sanity

I got the latest gcam versions working on mix 3 so gonna share it here
Sanity:
https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/cfiles/gcm1/GoogleCamera_6.2.030_stable_alt.apk
BSG:
https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/cfiles/gcm1/MGC_6.2.030_RN7_V1plusplus_FINAL.apk
Will Attach Sample Images Later
The Sanity apk worked for me but BSG kept closing. Thanks very much!
Everything seems to be working without any issues - it has some cool camera modes not in the stock camera.
I will use this for the night sight because I hear it's better than MIUI's version.
But I'll keep MIUI camera for front facing pictures:
gcam front facing flash lights up screen rather than uses the torch at the front.
In gcam settings, front camera photo resolution maximum is 6.2 megapixels instead of 24MP.
gcam has digital zoom! This is good - stock doesn't have digital zoom.
Does anyone have any opinion on MIUI camera vs gcam for daytime pictures though (mix 3)? It's night time here so I can't compare yet.
Looks like gcam does not use the optical zoom (2x) like stock does. Only digital zoom available. So stock camera may be better here for far away shots.

Using the telephoto lens is different on GCam 6.2 version, it was easier on previous versions. IIRC, you have to go to settings (settings > advanced > on the bottom there is a "Switch to the auxiliary back camera" switch) every time you want to use the telephoto lens. A bit annoying but there's nothing we can do about that, I'm afraid.

RAW support

Hi,
Can someone with Xperia 1 please:
1. Install "Camera2 API probe" and report if it has a green check for "RAW capture".
2. If RAW is indeed supported, please install "Open Camera" (or another third party app supporting RAW output), take some pictures in DNG format and provide the original DNG files.
3. Also take the same photos with the stock Sony cam and provide the original JPG files for comparison with the DNG.
I think this may help quite a few people since we have yet to see any evidence of RAW support and samples from Xperia 1.
Thank you in advance.
Here you go buddy :

Thanks a lot for your quick reply.
Of course if you have a chance to post some unprocessed DNG's vs stock cam that would be great.
I'd like to test if we can extract better quality than stock from the RAW in post processing.
Raw Capture App : Camera FV-5
Hi there, I too realized that the stock camera under not so ideal conditions does not really produce the best image. Hope sony does fix it with an update, they have after years made a good phone to compete with other really hope they don't screw it up.
Coming back to topic :
I am currently using Camera FV-5 paid application and the RAW image is amazing in terms of getting a good base to play around on lightroom. I am even getting extremely impressive images by editing it on phone with Lightroom (paid full) android app.
I will try and post a google drive link in sometime, but for a quick feedback the RAW capture on Xperia 1 is good. I am sure even other 3rd party RAW apps should work well., given it has full Camera 2 API support. (Note it does not support level 3 API though)
Thank you cletusindia for your valuable info,
Can you tell me if the RAW support also applies to the telephoto and ultrawide lenses ?
Also can you access these lenses with FV-5 ? (I have FV-5 but only 1 lens on the XZ2 so I dont' know how it deals with multi-lens.)

No, just the main camera. I also use Open Camera, even this app only uses main lens with digital zoom.
Also from camera2 probe (APP) i noticed the Wide angle lens does not support RAW. its only the main and telephoto lens.

Isn't it possible to switch to the wide angle and telephoto on 3rd party apps like open camera?
It doesn't make sense sony locking it even if the JPEG are great.
LG phones have RAW on all lenses for years altought JPEG processing in the later models is not very good.

How To Guide I am fed up of this ****ty camera processing of Nord 2.

The stock camera app of Nord 2 is ****. It over processes the images and the photos don't look like they are taken from a 50MP camera.
Any suggestions on what to do or some good GCam you can suggest?
Some examples? High mp sensors suffer in low light and have a more shallow depth of field especially up close to subjects. An accurate AF lock is important because of the narrow DOF; example, always try to get a AF lock on the subject's closest eye when shooting a face.
Adjust your shooting style according to the camera's strengths and weaknesses. See as the camera sees not as your eyes see. Human vision has exponentially more processing power and an incredible imaging system more so than any camera.
I want a proper gcam version if available or any better alternative that stock.
Always disable HDR option and pictures will look a lot better (sadly the app doesn't remember this setting so you have to turn it off each time) . The HDR process in the Nord 2 is absolutely awful .
Download the first file in this link. Photos taken with the primary camera will be much better, though I don't think Night Sight works. https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-wichaya/f/dl5/
DISABLE HDR. It's a known issue.
But you can't disable HDR when taking photos directly in other apps (whatsapp, telegram, etc)? I had OP8T and it had same issue and I had returned it...
GCam won't give you 50MP. AFAIK the only way to get 50MP on stock Nord 2 is by using the Extra HD feature in the stock camera app.
I'm curious to know if people with rooted devices have this capability enabled in the API. Let us know please

I don't think HDR and other processing options are enabled for 3rd party apps (same goes for the ultrawide lens, you can't use it in other apps) for me whatsapp and telegram pictures look good (but they are heavily compressed)

50Mpx is available in some GCAm versions (Wichaya and Nikita if I remember correctly, BSG and Greatness don't have the full resolution option) , but the 50mpx full resolution of the sensor is totally useless (not only with the nord 2 , but generaly with all other phones) , 12mpx pixel bining gives you better image processing, less noise , etc... a quick look at the reviews explain very clearly why is not a good idea to use the full resolution (50, 108mpx etc...) of a phone sensor.
Personally I use the BSG 8.4 v10 version and pictures are great, Google HDR+ implementation give a lot better results than stock app

Was this on stock or rooted? Btw for me the 4:1 binning is not something desirable since I stack very low light photos, run my own denoising and various other process. Hence why I need the full sensor data made available to apps like OpenCamera

Yes, IM apps do compress photos but that's different story than colour fidelity. In my time with 8T the colours in photo app and telegram/whatsapp were simply blown out of proportion: something normal-red in real life was glowing like burning Mars in 8T photos. After disabling HDR in camera app the photos looked ok (though still overprocessed hence IMHO OP3 photos looked better!) but in whatsapp/telegram I still had same issue with stupid extreme colours...

It's for Camera Raw And/or Lightroom. I tried importing it in Lightroom but it's not showing up for some reason.

It seems that Adobe updated Adobe Camera Raw to support S23 Ultra, and because S23 Ultra has four different camera modules, they all require separate linear profiles, because the linear profiles are camera specific. At least I think so.
Here are the four camera specific linear profiles. They all work with my Lightroom Classic v.12.2 and Adobe Camera Raw v.15.2.
All profiles are made with Adobe DNG Profile Editor, from Samsung Expert RAW 16-bit dng files.
The naming convention corresponds to the camera focal length as it is shown under the histogram:
Galaxy S23 Ultra 2.2 Linear Profile is for the Ultra Wide Camera
Galaxy S23 Ultra 6.3 Linear Profile is for the Wide-angle Camera
Galaxy S23 Ultra 7.9 Linear Profile is for the 3x Optical Zoom Telephoto Camera 2
Galaxy S23 Ultra 27.2 Linear Profile is for the 10x Optical Zoom Telephoto Camera 1
Loving what ACR can do with S23U dng's. Blows any other phone I have owned out of the water. The performance of the 10x optical zoom is particularly astounding.
All of the below were captured with GCAM 8.5 (ACG version) with a almost completely plain vanilla .XML config file for the S23U, then loaded into ACR. I practically never do any sharpening, but have obviously manipulated light and contrast heavily for artistic effect. Things look beautiful on a 27 inch screen, surprisingly close to what I can get out of a Z6... when the light is good. Obviously when the light gets bad the Z6 wipes the floor with the S23U, but that shoukd not surprise anyone.

Question Camera: no auto HDR in pro mode?

It seems that when the stock camera is in pro mode it does not apply Auto HDR to the JPEG image, whether it is told to save the jpeg only or RAW+jpeg. Is that the intended behavior? I agree that the raw needs to be left alone but not applying Auto HDR to the jpeg is disappointing, to say the least, particularly since pro mode is the only place to tame the overly saturated color rendition of the stock camera app.
Unfortunately it's intended behavior.
You can try Good Lock Camera Assistant and disable Scene Optimizer to tame the contrast in default mode.

You already answered your question about missing HDR in Pro mode. HDR does over saturate the colors.
Samsung should be embarrassed about this camera. OP, did you find a way to reduce saturation without losing HDR?
I tried GCam but half of the functionality doesn't work on S23 at present and I want my camera to be easy/reliable.

I don't think that there is any.
You can go with camera mode, but the picture is overprocessed, and you cannot play with it much.
You can go with PRO mode, but you don't have HDR and therefore wide dynamic range.
You can go with ExpertRAW, but the processing of the pictures is somehow even worse than in the base camera app.
You can go with GCAM, but then you don't have access to greater resolution than 12 Mpix (as Samsung is not exposing API to 3rd party apps for 50Mpix and 200Mpix) and some of the features are not working that easily and video mode is limited (same reason as for 50/200 Mpix not available).

I agree. I use GCAM, but of course, it is not perfect. So many decisions in the camera department made by Samsung simply do not make sense to me...
The amazing thing is how bad the Fruit Cam has gotten too.
