XZ1 or Moto X4? - Sony Xperia XZ1 Questions & Answers

Hello all,
I am currently looking for a small phone with a headphone jack at around $200-250. The XZ1 is really tempting for $240 with flagship features but my only gripe is the battery capacity and how difficult it is to replace it later on. The moto X4 on the other hand, can be had for $200 which is around the same dimensions as the Sony and easier to have the battery replaced with some mid range specs. What in your opinion is a better value in 2019? How is your xz1 holding up so far?

Bro, to be honest I would have clearly gone again and again with the xz1. Here is their difference in detail : https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=8804&idPhone2=8634#diff-*,*,*
.
Battery is always important but you get twice performance from the xz1
Also, Chipset, CPU and GPU clearly greater which is the biggest effects on the performance
For the Camera you wont regret it believe me
Battery it is 300mAh less but is clearly the winner (check the link above : Battery life XZ1= 82h endurance rating Moto X4= 64h endurance rating)
for which I can tell you without any root or any Stamina I am seeing 6 hours of screen time and it rocks from the performance.
Moreover, Xz1 was the high end phone of that period when it came out.
The above ones were the details, and I just believe that it is a decent phone for that money, no need to go with another midrange phone since their support is also good. But this is my opinion.

I picked up a brand new XZ1 about two weeks ago from amazon, and I'm floored at how fluid it is, certainly compared to the XZ I was using previously. It's running Android Pie without any obvious issues, and battery life is one and a half days easily, with seven and a half hours screen on time minimum. I paid £199.00 on Amazon, the design is stunning, and it's arguably one of the last great xperias. The only points I would flag are that the camera is competent but not exceptional, and android support will end towards September 2019, although the value for money is tremendous and criticism in the main focuses upon the bezels, which is slightly ridiculous as you can clearly see what you're buying before you commit. It's shockingly good at it's current price......

Thank you for the responses. Did you guys update to Pie? If so, how is the battery life now? I've read some user complaints about xz1c that new updates causing battery drain.

I updated to Pie immediately, so it's all I've known on this handset. At the time of writing, I've used about one third of the battery, which has delivered almost three hours' screen on time. Battery drain overnight is almost a flatline (XZ1 handset, UK firmware, February security patch)......

XZ1 all the way. Better in all aspects. Phones built like a tank with a 3.5 mm jack.

Good News for Alpha Owners - Bigger Battery !!!

In researching the two weaknesses of the Alpha Vs. Z3 Compact I discovered
this.
http://www.expansys.ie/zoompic.aspx?i=268141
A 2500 Mah Battery and Backplate from Samsung for Alpha .
Same price as a spare Samsung smaller Battery !
Assume the Camera will be more flush to Backplate.
So what would SOT be with 2500 Mah Battery ?
Another good thing is no SD card but all Media can be backed up
and run off a USB Thumb Drive etc. apparently without loading using
USB OTG.
So the gap narrows between Z3 C and Alpha and Alpha feels really
durable, will check Z3C in Sony Store soon but unlocked Bell Canada
Alpha may be more practical for me .
let me know if u get one
I wonder how it will look. I hope they do a better job than their Qi backplate!
I'm really excited about the the bigger (thicker) battery and no more protruding camera
Google it if you want to see the back plate (I can't post any link yet)

Sorry there's only the back cover picture though, but I'm pretty sure it'll make the camera no longer protruding, although not as thick as the (ugly) wireless charging back cover
is that kit available already?
Nice battery kit!!We have any pic with the new battery case?

did anyone order this already?
I was about to order it, but I don't think making the phone bulkier (thus making a lot of phone cases useless) for 700 mah. That's not even a 50% increase...
If it were 2800 mah or 3000 or something, then I might consider it (though I can't imagine how thick(d) it would be since the battery is very skinny (w))
Either way thanks for the post, if this could get the phone to about 48 hours daily use I would consider it (i'd get about 52 hours out of my HTC when it was new but it had a less demanding screen and 2600 mah battery).
Will wait for results, currently as it stands I can barely get 24 hours out of my phone with casual gaming and websurfing. Thank god it charges extremely quickly at least
It's not released yet. But if it has 1/3th more capacity, it's save to say it will give you 1/3 more uptime.
Looking at the backplate it will be about 3 mm thicker than the original one, making the camera flush with the plate, imho it will still look nice and original.
If that is not enough there's still the "zero lemon" which is also coming to this phone.
It will give you approximately 1 hr and 20 mins of screen on time with 40% brightness and moderate use.
So i would say not bad since i'm averaging 4 hrs of screen on time + that extra mah will give me at least 5 hrs+ sot... hope they will release it soon.
I have not decided on Alpha vs Z3 C yet but this makes
one of the weaknesses a bit better on Alpha.
5 to 5.5 hours SOT sounds pretty good.
I hope the back is flush with Camera with this Kit -
Because if it still not flush I will think WTF,
room for a 2800 Mah ? Lol.

Beware hensk, because in those implementations (cheap chinese, mass producted),
the nominal mah, is muuuch muuuch different from the...actuall
for example if nominal is 2500mah, i seriously doubt if the actuall is beyond... 2000-2100 max
Thanks for the advice м8

dunno about you guys, but i get the felling that this device
is handling energy with a very efficient way, so, even if it has a small capacity bat. its not noticeable in everyday usage

[Discussion]MI5 vs HTC One A9

Greetings,
I am looking for a lightweight, Android phone - particularly interested in MI5 and A9. MI5 seems to be a fantastic all-rounder and it is very tempting to buy that. But, I like the HTC one A9 too.
Keeping the performance and price difference aside AND considering the Display,Audio and Camera quality...which is the better device..i am asking this because I got used to HTC and Sense and I kinda trust HTC quality..not sure whether switching to Xiaomi over HTC is a good idea..what do you say?
I have used both phones and both phones are amazing.
HTC One A9 is an amazing phone and doesnt have that many performance issues. Camera is quite good too.
Now for the two huge cons:
1) Display - Maximum brightness is 368 nits and its almost impossible to see anything on the screen when outside. Absolutely hated that. Compare it to Xiaomi Mi 5 which has maximum brightness of 650 nits and amazing bright sunlight readability
2) Battery: This was more pathetic than you can imagine. With 100% in the morning, i ended up at 30% by late afternoon and there is no way that the phone can last one day. Considering I am a light user, this battery life is crap at a different level. Even with Quick Charge 3.0 (you will have to buy a compatible charger separately), you will have the fear of the phone dying on you at all times. Mi5 has amazing battery life even while using both sim cards.
I like HTC Sense too but the drawbacks on HTC One A9 are too huge to compromise onl
that alone should rule the HTC out of the conversation - that battery life is pathetic

the only problem that may happen to you is not liking MIUI... I can''t really trust the non-Miui roms without the kernel released
You should buy the MI5 ,its SoC is much better and the other specs ,too.Battery life is amazing , mine has about 5-6hr SoT.Overall a great phone.
If you were comparing the Mi 5 to the HTC 10, it would be a tougher decision.
In this case, not only do you get massively superior performance out of the Mi 5, but also the battery life is also quite amazing. Note that the A9 is using a Snapdragon 617, scoring ~40k on the AnTuTu benchmark, while a Mi 5's Snapdragon 820 is able to score above 140k. A previous comment also noted GSMArena's battery test results--the Mi 5's rated for more twice the web browsing time.
For more info check these reviews:
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_one_a9-review-1331.php

GSMArena's reviews are quite detailed and should help you gain a better understanding of the two devices.

3450 mAh battery: is it legit?

Ok, i think that my Moto G4 Plus battery is going down for good. I am planning on buying another one, and i started searching for a slightly bigger one. I found one for my Nexus 5, back in the day and it had a capacity of 2450 mAh instead of 2300.
Now i found one for this phone that is 3450 mAh. It is sold on Aliexpress on what it looks like an official store/seller from this Losoncoer brand. (???)
The capacity increase actually makes sense as it has a 15% increase from stock battery. My Nexus 5 enhanced battery had 7% increase and it was a smaller packaging, so i don't think it's THAT blatantly fake.
My only doubt is: is it stable enough? I don't plan to have this phone for many years yet, so a slightly less stable battery in the long time distance is ok to me if i can get a 15% more daily use NOW.
Have you guys heard of it? I couldn't find anything on google, let alone xda itself, but maybe i missed something.
Here is the link for the battery:

Once I bought battery for my Samsung galaxy s3 from other brand. Original battery was of 2100 mah but battery that I bought was of 2200 mah with same size. But the battery backup was actually less than original battery though it was of slightly higher capacity.
So if it cheap enough for you, you can just give it a try and share your experience. And it does not seems to be fake.
The "store" has less than 10 ratings...
There is a similar battery here too. They have misspelled the word "perfect" on the label.
I have bought several things on Alibaba. ALL of them had issues.
LE: On eBay I saw some so-called OE batteries, cheap, marked as "Engineering Sample". Those where not supposed to be sold, mfg date shows something like March 2016 or Dec 2016... basically old stock. Others don't even have a mfg date printed on them.
All Li-ion batteries start to "age" immediately after mfg, regardless if they are used or just shelved. I would stay away from those too.
Enjoy burning your house down...
Hey, the OP made me curious.
Since it is only $13 and since I have house insurance, I think I will buy one, just to test it
Well, I got mine today and I have replaced it. Seems OK for now, came with 56% charge, it charged fine. The box had a label with Production Date 01-22-2018, which is good (if true).
To remove the old battery I used a Torx #3 drive. I didn't re-apply the double-back sticky tape on back of the battery, I didn't have any and I don't see it's usefulness. Careful when "peeling" out the old battery, it "bends" very easy, it's mechanical resistance like a stronger putty, don't puncture it (when prying) under any circumstance!
Hmm.. I was actually looking for a new battery and was considering buying this.... after reading some of the comments, yes it seems it fits that definition of "too good to be true..."
If your high quality battery is called "Enhanced Business Batter" I wouldn't buy it. Batteries have a limit to their energy density and some cheap chinese firm that uses bing translator won't change that.
After a few days (two weeks) of testing, I appreciate that this new battery lasts about as long as my former 2 year old battery.
Well, $12 down the Chinese drain:

If only gaming on PUBG SOT drop to 4h since the game has a drain of 25%/h
I rarely let the battery drop below 20% and charge more than 80% to limit stress on battery, and it last for a full day.
BLA-L29 156C432
Wifi, data, gps, screen rotation always ON.
Cool! There might be differenciation between the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro in terms of SOT because both the phones have a OLED and LCD Screen. I'm easily achieving 6hr 45min of SOT provided that I charge the battery up to 100 percent and a depletion now lesser than 20 percent.
Gaming vice, yes. PUBG is a CPU / GPU hogging game whereby it sucks the most out of it. Depleting battery with a higher temperature is one of the contributing factor to a sturdy battery. GPU Turbo does indeed help in terms of thermal dissipation but then no much can be done since Mate 10 doesn't have the liquid cooling technology.
Yep, I'm using only black/grey background, it can help a lot since screen is like 60% of the drain in normal use.
I forgot to say it was with auto brightness ON too.
For me the mate 10 pro is really good with this game. Best battery drain of all the coworker team when playing, including iPhone 8+, one plus 5t, mate 9, iPhone5s (that just literaly burn in 20 minutes xD). Temperature are good too, since it's just warm like 35-38°C, with higher settings after 30min of game. But I still don't have GPU turbo, dunno why, I don't have the game center app. It was said activating it drains more battery, so I don't really care, I play on Switch and PC, phone are just for little break and 30FPS are far enought for me.
I think 3-4h SOT on handeld gaming is really great, Switch and 3DS don't do far more on demanding games.
My 950XL with liquid cooling got hotter, but Snapdragon 810 had an infamous hot temper too.
It was great but after October google's security update it doesn't seem well (no idea why this happened) and now im wating for pie maybe it gets a bit better
And I use my phone a lot (3 charges a day from 40 to 80 usually) and never lets it's charge drop below 40%

Question Should I buy a 9R?

Hi,
I am thinking of buying a 9R. I am hearing negative comments about display regarding tint issue, flickering at low brightness. Some are saying they have not faced any display issue. So, I'm little hesitant.
I'm looking for a phone with following priorities:
- Flickering is a concern for me; I mostly use my phone in dark room with phone brightness below 30% (current phone: Redmi note 8 Ginkgo with IPS LCD - I like its display);
- Close to true color display. no to boosted color/over-saturated display;
- I want an android phone with usb 3.1 standard (for quick data transfer);
- clean/light ui or stock android;
- good build quality;
- I dont play games on phone;
- Camera like Sony IMX 586 will be ok for me. (I liked the camera quality of age old Nokia N8, it has very true color reproduction)
Will it be okay for me to switch to 9R?
I mean, not sure what you are expecting. It's a OnePlus. Software is mediocre, updates are late / non-existent, often buggy. Notifications are delayed. Hardware is often plagued with faults here and there. But we buy it because it's cheap and the dev scene usually is good. This does not really apply to the 9R because its a niche device, niche market.
> - clean/light ui or stock android;
That's not OxygenOS tho, lol. It became a super heavy skin the past few years, versions.
I am not trying to hate, I am also pondering about the purchase. It is cheap after all, and it's top of the line chipset, even with OnePlus's sneaky limitations ( https://www.notebookcheck.net/OnePl...aims-leaves-a-lot-to-be-desired.549823.0.html ).
Trying to decide if I should buy a Mi 11 Lite 5G (way lighter, but similarly bad OS); Pixel 4a (superb phone, bad battery, costs a lot for the hw) or this.
If you're thinking about Oneplus 9R. Oneplus Nord 2 is a better value for money option. Go with Oneplus Nord 2

It's still on OOS 11.2.LE28DA (have not updated)
1. I'm not happy with the screen - this is my first android with amoled - didn't like black smearing - brightness control response not smooth - there is an off axis(45degreesh) light pink tint (even type not patchy) (noticeable on white, not a deal breaker for me, it's visible if you look for it) - well I didn't face any other tint issue ---- High quality/Color accurate IPS screen could have been used. And side mounted fingerprint sensor (which would have been much faster than in-screen FP sensor.)
2. Battery doesn't drain fast on idle (I have disabled the usual stuff - location/wifi scan/bluetooth scan/some other small things). - but battery consumption is little more than usual on daily use (browsing, social media apps, phone calls, [NO Gaming]).
Strange thing: Yesterday, on 4G single sim (data on, moderate to full signal, no wifi), with 120hz refresh rate, moderate use, ~2hrs youtube music, ~1.5hrs poweramp music, some insta/fb/twtr/google/browsing, the battery lasted ~2days (@15% remaining battery - 3H 43M voice call, 3H 28M SOT)
I noticed sometime it uses more battery on wifi.
3. Main camera is okay in good light. It suffers in low light/indoor lighting (tuning is not done properly by oneplus.) [Main camera sensor could have been improved in this price range] (I didn't use other back cameras that much)
4. Front camera is okay.
5. Headphone jack could have been given.
---------------
This phone is now my daily driver; so I'm not planning to flash custom rom. I flashed lineage os 17.1 on my redmi note 8 (Ginkgo).
On wifi, screen on 120hz RR, single 4g sim, no gaming, no music listening, ~30 mins voice call, light social media-firefox browsing:
