Mi 9 Transparent 8/256 variant coming soon! - Xiaomi Mi 9 Guides, News, & Discussion

Looks like in addition to the Transparent 12/256 variant we are also getting a 8/256 too..
https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_mi_..._256gb_will_come_by_late_march-news-35952.php

Looks like it knocks $20 or so off the "expected price"? So not much and not really worth cutting RAM by 50%,

You mean 33%?

Where you said "cutting RAM by 50%" it sounds like you mean taking 50% off the original with 12GB which would be 6GB

ah yes it you go down from the 12GB model and use that as the baseline then 50% would be 6GB. Im decent at math, not very great at writing things out in english.

im using this model.

1gb of ram?

I read that the Samsung galaxy s2 has 1gb of ram but when I look at the task manager it says I only.have 838mb. Is that supposed to be right?
Ya thats right. You only have 838mb available after the system memory takes what it needs to run the phone. All phones say they have less available then what they really have due to the system taking up some.
Thanks! That's still plenty of ram compared to most phones right?

There's only a handful of android devices with 1gb ram out now - it's starting to become the norm now. But, don't worry, 1gb ram is plenty for gingerbread and ice cream sandwich.

Correct.

[Q] i9300 or i9305

Hello XDA,
I really don't know what to choose. Just the other day I bought the I9300 Sapphire Black but then I realised I could get the I9305 for only 65 USD more. To get the I9305 I'd have to mail back the I9300 and then get the I9305 sent to me.
I am planning on rooting my phone and find a nice ROM that suits me. Having looked shortly over the ROM lists for both devices it seems I can find one that fits me on both devices. Is this extra price worth it? I do not really care that much for 4G (I don't even have a plan that supports it yet), but I kind of dig the 2 GB ram.
Now my question is, is it worth getting the I9305 for 65 USD more?
I9300
- I currently have this one at home (Seal unbroken)
- only 1 GB ram
- Huge dev. support
I9305
- 2 GB ram
- 4G/LTE
- Less dev. support
- More battery drain (?)
- 65 USD more
I just don't know what to choose... I don't think I'll need the 1 GB ram as of right now, but I'm just thinking what about the future? I remember from my old Desire Z that I couldn't really get ICS because of only 512 MB ram. Could I possibly run into this problem in the next 2 years with 1 GB ram? (I already see new phones coming out with 2 GB ram).
I have been searching all night trying to get an answer for this question... I don't know what I should do :crying:
return the i9300 and get a i9500

I can't justify a purchase like that. It's almost double the price of a i9300.

*sigh* Once again, because the S4 is almost double the price of the S3. As I wrote in OP I ran into ram limitations on my old phone (512 mb ram). While the phone itself could run ICS (I am now talking about my old phone), it was short on ram... I am just worried that I might run into these kind of problems soon again with 1 GB... I don't know if that's stupid to think.

Why available RAM on 4.4.4 is so low

Hello there, I just bought Xperia Z Ultra and I'm very pleased with it. I noticed that available ram is kinda low compared to my previous phones. I have 1 GB-900 MB free ram after boot (nothing installed, after hard reset) and like 700-600 MB after one or two days of usage. I'm just wondering if this is normal because 600 MB of free ram when doing nothing is ridiculously low. And yes I know how memory management on Android works but my Note II had like 1,4 GB of free ram after boot. Is there anything I can do without root?

Nope and thanks for your useless contribution. Please, stop mindlessly repeating things you don't understand. Free RAM = Useless RAM applies only when RAM is used to keep applications you're using (and while this is partially true, I'd say that less than 10 % of filled RAM is used to actually keep apps I use, rest is garbage). In most of situations, it's: RAM filled with garbage = Useless RAM. I assume, you have all of your plates filled with something because obviously, empty plate must be a useless plate as well.
I have to admit it still works very well, considering how much RAM is being used.

Look at it this way then
Free RAM = Unused RAM
Unused RAM = Useless RAM
If you know how RAM/memory management works in the linux kermel why are you worried? Do anything get dropped from memory when it shouldn't?

That's the same and its still false in most of the cases as I explained above. Unused RAM is better than used RAM filled with garbage. I was worried because I have used a lot of phones with 2GB of ram and in all cases RAM usage was lower than on ZU. Considering the fact that Sony overlay is actually one of the most lightweight overlays, this is something that could give me some worries. But since it works fine I'll live with that.

It was not my attention to make a stupid comment, as I apparently did, but to calm you down, that if your phone dose not stutter, you have nothing to worry about.
So Sorry for replaying to your thread, I will make sure that I don't do it again.

What is the difference between 4GB and 6GB Ram in Mate 10 Pro?

I wonder if someone compared the performance.
Don't have two phones in order to compare them but it's obvious that 6gb ram phone is better in multitasking...

Multitasking is not an issue since 2013. Performance is still a benchmark like app opening speed and gaming.

Anyway, i think that there is not a really difference in today's usage. The only difference is that it would keep apps in memory longer, assuming that it is coded correctly.

3gb ram 32gb ROM vs 4gb ram 64gb ROM

There's this 2 versions of Redmi 5 Plus ...
The 4gb version worths the invested money?
My doubts are:
- The 3gb ram can handle reopening browser (mainly Opera to me but could be Chrome aswell just for the sake of testing) without reloading the webpages each time??? If so please tell me..
- Should I choose the 4gb ? It has some other major improvements over the 3gb ram ?
I just don't want to waste money for no significant improvements. Thanks! :fingers-crossed:
I think it's more important 64gb storage than 4gb of ram
For me 32gb it's not enough.
There are many videos showing the miui memory management problems on YouTube. (look at the comparative VS videos).
3gb is fine with stock Android. But miui has very bad ram management. It closes background apps much faster than stock Android. So, if you need multi-tasking it's advised to go with the 4gb version.
(4gb on miui seems worse than 3gb on stock.)
I'm on 4gb and happy with it so far.
Edit: That being said, if you come back to your browser after open perhaps 4 or 5 apps you should be fine with 3gb. But get the 4gb to be on the safe side. The price difference is only 20 bucks anyway, so definitely worth it).

It would be nice if I get paid in dollars, lol.. 20$ turn into 100 R$ (my local currency) .. comparable to 100 dollars to someone who lives abroad. It worths the investment anyway..
I have a Xiaomi Mi Note 2 (but it fell off to the ground yesterday and stopped working :crying .. Before I had a Lenovo Zuk Z2.. both with 4gb ram... I ditched MIUI in favor of Resurrection Remix .. What I can remember is that disabling MIUI Ram Management in settings it can hold a lot of apps in memory.. but as I said, my experience was not with 3gb ram..
Those comparison videos are not clear if they disabled the MIUI Ram Management.. so it would probably hold the apps opened in background (even with 3gb ram)... With 4gb it's garanteed to do the job..
If anyone here with 3gb ram can tell us your experiences regarding ram management and disabling that option, I would appreciate..
For those who are in doubt over prioritizing memory VS storage.. I would go for memory.. as the storage is upgradeable (with sd card).. memory is not.. and it gives you more time range to spend with the chosen device :good:

3gb version using since few months and it's quite good, miui memory optimization disabled by default in newer version.
Also I am using moded miui rom which is super fast as compare to stock miui.
As far as I know browser sometimes reload but it's speed is quit fast so I didn't noticed any difference till yet.

been using the 3gb for some time now... it good for multitasking. 4gb is an overkill. you should go with the 4gb variant mostly because its 64gb memory, I don't think you'll notice a performance difference in because of the increased ram, tho it's always nice to have more ram; you never know when you might actually need it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
