Hard drive - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

God morning from the Philippines! This is about file transferring. when it comes to transferring files on and to a hard drive and otg usb it takes too long than normal or than my other devices (samsung c9 pro an old model and huawei nova 3i). I needed to know or wanted to know if those who have updated their poco has resolved this issue and if not. If there will be an update to upgrade the transfer speed. Mine is not rooted. Not updated. All stocks from the box. Thank you!

I noticed it too. While using a portable HDD(2 TB) for transferring files, transfer speeds were very low 200-500 kBps but when I used a simple pen drive (32 GB) I was getting standard USB 2.0 speeds around 5 to 9 mBps. A point to know that the HDD I used DIDN'T have any external power and used the power from the usb port for driving itself. Maybe our phone isn't sending enough power through the USB port that's necessary for driving a portable HDD. I don't have any HDD that needs external power to work, so I can't test it. If I can get my hands on one, I'll post the results here.

[Q] HDDs that work with Galaxy Tab 10.1?

My current portable hard drive apparently uses too much power for the galaxy tab.
Are there any 500gig + hard drives that use the same power as a thumb drive or is this just wishful thinking?
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
You will have to use an USB Hub with power supply. All spinning HDD's require much more power than the tablet is supplying.
I know it is not cheap, but you can today buy 128GB USB flash drives - they will work well and store also a lot of HD movies!
i am curious how you are connection your HD to the tab? if you are usign the usb host usb adapter, the little paper that came with it supports up to 32gb fat32 drives. i dont know if thats true or not, but if it is, you wont even be able to use a 128 usb flash drive as previously suggested.
i can confirm that a 32gb fat32 usb flash drive works, used with my sandisk cruiser 32
For portability the Seagate wireless drive would work.
http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Satellite-Wireless-Storage-STBF500101-Black/dp/B004Z0S7K6
Using a powered hub will work just fine with portable hard drives. I have a 500GB Seagate that works very well
The USB 2.0 spec can only handle supplying 100mA x 5. So 500mA draw us the max it can supply to any drive. I don't know of any drives that are that low, might as well use a flash drive or SD card.

Hosts are actually not required to supply 500 mA even. They are required to supply 100, and may negotiate up to 500 during device enumeration.
PCs that don't support 500 are extremely rare, but mobile devices with OTG are a different story - many are limited to 100. This seems to include our device.
2.5" spinning hard drives that use less than 500 can be found. Less than 100 is not possible.
As to the 32GB limit - I have no idea why that's in the flyer, other than maybe the fact that it's VERY rare to see drives above this size formatted as FAT since Windows refuses to format drives of this size as FAT.
I have a 120GB WD external drive that works fine on my netbook (single USB port cable) I'll have to pick up a USB adapter and try it.
IIRC as the size (GB) of the drive goes up so does it's power draw.
Has anybody tried a 1.8" drive from an MP3 player?
Power consumption
Start 1.8W (max.)
Seek 0.9W (typ.)
Read/Write 0.8W (typ.)
Low power Idle 0.3W (typ.)
Stand-by 0.1W (typ.)
Though I suppose this Thread is kinda dead...I'd still like to know if there is a way to connect harddrives bigger than 32GB (and to format a Fat32 driver bigger than 32GB). Wish to stream media from my tablet to the PS3 and other players via Skifta...but I don't want to buy harddrives randomly, hoping they will work.
Tried with different USB Drives I have at home, but none works (well, NTFS of course).
Has anyone tried a bigger driver via powered USB Hub yet?
Or 64GB Sticks etc?
Cheers,
J.
i use a samsung hd 750 GB via powered hub, works great.

Sounds awesome! So, I suppose any powered hub works. Did you format the HD in any specific way or by the help of some fancy software (just wondering as I think Fat32 cannot be formatted under Win7 if the harddisk exceeded size x) ?
Thanks

If your tab is rooted you can get "usb mass storage otg" from the market which support your ntfs formatted drives no need for fat 32 crap anymore!

Edit:think i figured how to go around. Find attaches the. Apk file. I found a few seconds delay while first opening. Also sometimes i had to reopen the app to allow root acces.because it didnt ask for root access on first run. Apart from the first run, its a breeze afterwords

So it's true, you actually have to format your 500GB drive as FAT32 to get it working?
I guess this means no HD movies (files bigger than 4 GB) right?
i plug in the lod fashioned 3.5hdd externally powered and ntfs formatted,
not able to connect 2.5hdds yet. if anyone was successful, what is powered usb hub used, i was not able to connect using a local brand of powered usb hub.

[Q] Fastest file transfer for Galaxy Tab 10.1

Hi all,
What is the fastest way to transfer files to the Galaxy 10.1? I need to put approximately 2 GB in folders directly on the /sdcard/
I've tried Windows Explorer in Windows 7 and this looks like it's taking forever, and gives me no time estimate. Using Eclipse through Mac OS X seems more reasonable but I was wondering if there is a faster way through Windows 7, or if there's a faster way that I'm missing.

I just connected mine to windows 7 via the included USB cable and transferred a 1GB MKV over in 5 mins.
This is the oddest thing . . . I'm trying to transfer 2 GBs and it looks like it will take a day or more. I let it sit for at least 40 minutes, with very little movement on the progress bar and very slow file copy. Again, Windows 7 with the supplied cable.
Maybe driver issues? Had that problem with my sgs2, had to reinstall the drivers

I had to just buy the USB adaptor and transfer files onto a USB stick and then plug into the adaptor. Various files once transferred onto the USB stick making up 12gb takes about 10mins this way.
easy to transfer files back onto the USB stick once watched...i've just got 16gb FAT32 wouldn't be without it.

It's 20mbyte per sec... what brand USB stick do you have?
Cause any of mine can give me no more then 7/8mbyte per sec.
USB adaptor either usb or sd is far the fastest way imo. Win7 take far to long and wi-fi is a joke.

The usb adapter is surprisingly quick when transferring files. Plus it lets you plug in a wired keyboard if you feel so inclined. Wired mouse as well.

Slow usb transfers 16gb rooted

Anyone else having extremely slow transfer speeds?? Im seeing usb 1.0 speeds. I've tried switching cables, ports, everything. Here's a screen cap.
how big was the original file? the nook usb cable is known to be a usb 1.0.cable. I've used a usb 2.0 cable and I have noticed speeds increase. if u are tranferring a file that's 1+ GB then speeds will be more or less the same.

I've tried switching to my cable for my Evo but it didn't make much of a difference. The file is about 200mb, nothing huge... For now I'm ejecting the microsd and using a usb card reader but its pretty irritating.
I uploaded 60 Mb and 70 Mb video files fast, but when tried to transfer lot of pictures with all small size, the transfer almost took hours, so I guess the transfer of a big file will do fine, but for lot of small files, will take longer.
What I haven't tried is thru wifi transfer, will update later.
I find it hard to believe that everyone else has the same transfer speeds. Is it possible that its my nook?

You're not the only one - same goes for me 16GB rooted. I mean slow is putting it nicely. It would top out at 2/3 MB/s and fall way below 700kb - eventually settling in at 40-80kb/s. 5 days to transfer 10GB! Now I don't even bother. Just take the card out and put it in my card reader on the PC and transfer. I couldn't do this while I was on holiday however with a laptop with no SD card slot, so it was extremely frustrating.
Same here , but normaly my speed is about 40-80kbit. It takes ages to copy something

Yeah, I bought a usb sdcard reader and use that when I don't have access to my laptop. Or I transfer via wifi with ftp from my home server. It would be nice to find the problem though. Did anyone have this problem pre-rooting their device?
My numbers:
1.4.0 rooted
SanDisk Mobile Ultra 16GB Class 6
Two different "Nook" cables.
Large file (600MB video)
USB - 4.5 MB/sec
Wifi - 3.75 MB/sec
Small files (1-4MB jpg)
USB - 2.5 MB/sec
Wifi - 1.2 MB/sec
My experience has been that if something else is running on the Nook it can slow everything else down.

Define something else. Usually the only thing I have running in the background is andchat.
not sure if this will make a difference but there is an app on the market.. sd card speed booster (or something.. search it) i changed the value from 128 to 1024.. now getting write speed of ~10Mbps while transferring big files via stock cable..
btw i am on cm7.. and i also use teracopy for windows..
Oh yes forgot to mention i have 16gb class10 transcend microsd (ultimate) card
Haha, I only have a class 4 sd card. So that can be some of the issue. I also have started using SwiFTP. I get around 2-3 MB/s transfers with it and I don't have to unplug my nook cable from the wall. So it's a win win sort of thing now.
Same problem. Even if I use the Wifi transfer mode and put data in nook's internal memory or the sd card, the speed never goes beyond 3mbps. :-/

Zek USB 3.0 OTG Adapter

Has anyone here used one of these?
I use my tablet for just about everything so I'm always worried about running out of space.
But with this I could add so much storage space with usb drives, and an sd card.

I have been using OTG to transfer files from and to my galaxy devices and it is working very well
But the sad news is that our note pro cannot give enough power to portable HDD ( the ones i used were 1Tb and 2tb, on my note 3 and my note edge they work but not on the note pro)
You can connect flash memories and anything that consumes low voltage like a mouse or a keyboard or a flash memory

I'm not looking to connect hdd's.
I already have planned what I'm doing.
First of all I'm gonna find some way to strap it to the back of the tablet case, and then, I got 1 for now, ultra fit usb flash drive, which will go in one of the usb ports.
I got a memory stick pro duo adapter which I can slot two of my micro sd cards into, and then stick it in the otg.
And then one micro sd card in an sd card adapter to put in the sd card slot. :3
This thing makes no sense. It's great yeah, but it's weird, it can have three flash drives or usb devices running at once, but when it comes to cards of any kind, you can only use one at a time, even if one is in a usb adapter, it still won't allow two.
It makes no sense, usb all you want, but cards only one. Why?

Maybe the adapter requires extra power that the note pro cannot give
Can you send a picture of what you have and how you connected them to the note pro?
I will try it and see if i am having similar issue
Sorry, just came across this post. Here are several methods I use; a 128Gb Sandisk USB 3 thumb drive [http://a.co/9OVzdu5 ] and a USB 3 OTA adapter [http://a.co/jfMs2Yq ] along with the 128gb micro card in the device. If you need terabytes, get a wireless battery powered portable hard drive [http://a.co/fzM9ZPi], it works on mine. I also had a spare 240gb mSATA card from when I replaced my laptop drive. I bought a case for it and use that - the tablet has enough power to use it. Finally, I have connected a self-powered 2 Tb desktop drive with good results via the OTG cable. It just takes a while when opening your file explorer. Last, but not least, you can connect to your NAS via WiFi [ I use QNAP, and have accessed it from everywhere that I've visited that had good inet speeds via the QNAP apps]
Do you have more info on QNAP? Where to get it for instance? Is it in the Play Store?

QNAP is a hardware vendor for Network Attached Storage units - look on Amazon or NewEgg. I got the empty 2 bay one and loaded some spare drives I had laying around so I have 2 Tbytes mirrored now. Their apps allow remote access for files, music and movies to their devices.

Can't transfer files from Windows 10 or Ubuntu to Poco

I enabled developer mode, enabled USB debugging, but I either wont let me copy files at all.. or copies them at a SNAILS PACE, I mean slower than a commodore 64 or something.
Tried on both Windows 10 and Ubuntu.
To be honest, with the light bleed issue that many devices(including mine) have, and this issue of not being able to transfer files( especially with a 128GB version, whats the point if I cant fill it up?)
I'm starting to wish I never bought this 'Flagship killer killer'.
Can anyone get decent transfer speeds? If so how !?
Thanks

This is a bug... It will be fixed after next update.
I also tried to copy files from internal to otg or sd to otg and getting lag, means screen is not responding untill remove otg. Even I tried to copy from internal to sd and files transfer process is very slow.
Someone told me in this forum that he transfer a file (1gb) from internal to sd card in just few seconds as his mobile runs Miui 10 beta.
So it will be fixed after next update.
