7 inch screen replacement - MTCD Hardware Development

I have an Eonon GA2170, PX5 MTCE and it's screen is very dim in direct sunlight.
Is it possible to upgrade the screen in these units?

Do you have auto headlights? Maybe the Eonon unit thinks the lights are on and is going into its dim mode.
You can try the following:
Settings > Car > Factory Settings > Password: 126 > 'Other' tab
There is a setting in there for the backlight trigger. Sorry I can't remember its name. Disable the option and click [Apply] and allow the unit to reboot. Hopefully that helps!

When I turn my lights on the head unit brightness turns down, and then back up when I turn my lights off.
So I think that's working normally but I'll have a look through those settings anyway.
My particular model has a lot of posts about its really bad screen, so I think it's just poor hardware.
I'm hoping someone can give me a part number for a similar unit that has a good screen and I can just swap them over.

I also have one with a 7" screen with a similar issue. If there was a display I could swap in I would definitely be keen to do this also!

I haven't been able to find anything after a lot of searching.
I might email Eonon and see if they can sell me a replacement.
Failing that I'll just have to take it apart and find a part number to help my googling.

Yea I own the same headunit and I was thinking the same thing.
I contant with eonon and when I found another screen with better resolution and ask the if the headunit supported.
They reply that cant confirm that because they dont have tested
Try to sell the headunit and get another one

It took me awhile to find a replacement screen & digitizer for mine ( not your model) I got it off aliexpress after countless hours and hours of searching literally everywhere, I found one with matching #'s so bit the bullet and ordered 2
I actually just got it yesterday I'll letcha know if there's any difference in brightness. If you can take off the front panel find any numbers on the LCD and slap those into google it should come up with something.
Good Luck !

Cheers mate. I'm really interested to know how it looks for you.
I didn't want to run the part number of my screen because apparently my unit is well known for its **** screen, so I wanted a different brand LCD or different version.
Do you mind sharing your part numbers and how much your replacement was?

Sorry for the super late reply, I went ahead and bought 2 both from different sellers but on the back of each LCD it says Hannastar. I didnt notice much difference at all so I installed Lux Lite from the play store. Works a treat !

annoying auto dim

does this happen to you?
i was playing on my tablet then the screen turn soooo dark
like as if the bright setting is turn all the way down.
i can hardly see to operate, i press the power button then again to login.
but when i check the setting it appear untouch
even after turning off auto brightness.
Mine kinda does this... mine just goes super dark, but i usually just touch the screen or the power button and it brightens back up, just like a laptop getting ready to go into sleep or hibernate mode.
It happens again after I set timeout tok 30 m3inutes
It could be bad lcd, I could not see a thing.
That would suck if it is a bad LCD, but at least it would be under warranty!
This happened to me, I think it is because I had brightness at maximum... I turned the brightness slightly down and it has happened again. But maybe that's just me?
Sent from my Sony Tablet S using xda premium
It has a light sensor and auto-adjust capability. I've notice as I move around with mine or change how room light hits it will darken or brighten. Doesn't bother me enough to go looking for some settings to disable it, but there should be some there.
I have the same problem too... everytime I turn off the screen using the power button then turn on again the screen turn very dark when the setting is set to auto brightness... it is very annoying while doing something on the S and went away from a while then come back to use it the brightness is totally so dim...
I'm sorry to say but you guys have a defective unit. Just switch it in right away.
turn off auto brightness.
I contact newegg yesterday but no reply yet.
edit: i call them via phone got my shipping label.
Turning off auto brightness doesnt help, but tuning down the brightness from max down slightly I havent had the issue.
If it happens again ill have to send this back, I feel bad loosing the official siony screen cover.
Byt loosing $30 is better than five ninty-nine us dollars.

The issue describedhappened to my first one which is why I know it. Just re turn it. Its not normal behavior.

my xperia x10 2.3.3 fw and before that doesn't bug me this much.
if all 3.2 fw tablet does it then i would blames on 3x
go ahead turn on your auto brightness and browse the net in a well lid room.
I have one that is doing the same thing. Also every now and then the screen shuts off and I cant get it to come back on for awhile unless I hold power for like 30 sec. Is this a defective tablet or honeycomb 3.2? Thanks!
I'm telling you guys, I sell the things andI KNOW the issue they are taking about. We played with the settings all day and it kept happening but the issue NEVER happened to any of the other units. It's most likely a defective unit because as I said, it only happened to the one unit.

[Q] Need Help with screen

So it looks like a small part of the top of my screen is dead, already tried everything and no luck, The draw line test shows about a 10% of the screen not working. I think this might be a hardware problem, but not sure.
If its the hardware, is it possible to only replace the Digitizer glass, without replacing the LCD screen?
Where can I buy the part (hopefully Original, I read that third party replacements are usually disappointing, because of quality.)? I tried searching in ebay and amazon and was only able to find for the HTC one X not the plus version.
Is it too hard to replace or i'm better saving for a new phone?
Do you mean the area where the status bar is? My HOX+ also doesn't recognize touches there. It happened suddenly 5 months ago when I was playing games . However, I used to it and it is not a big problem, I will give it to repair when I get on vacation .
I already made some researches on the internet and it is not an uncommon problem for touch screens. Yes, it is the digitizer's fault.

Exactly the same problem, upper part of the screen (all notification bar). I have an OCD and this tiny things bug me a lot. I guess now I need to find a digitizer to replace it, the problem is that on ebay and other sites there are not HOX+ available, all are for the HOX.
Is there any difference between HOX and HOX+ digitizers? I thought both got the same screen.
I'm not an expert so I won't fix it on my own, better send it back to service .
Btw. I've read one time that you can put a piece of paper between the bezel and grill to clean some mess up which could get inside the phone. I was wondered that I was able to slip the paper there, but it didn't work .

yes it will work, but you can't only change the digitizer, it's too hard glued together. I broke my LCD connector while replacing the screen although
I was really careful, so it's not as easy as everyone says.
Thx, i will keep that in mind.

[Q] Should I replace my phone's motherboard?

Hey guys!
I have a GT-i9300 for about 2 years now. Long story short - last year I bought a liquid air refreshener for my car which leaked out and without noticing it I just threw my phone in it and later on reallised what had actually happend. So fast forward 1 year later, the phone is till working though not fully. The lower part of the screen turned green, about 3-4 cm has a gree hue on top of the content( if it turns on actually, sometimes it does not turn on ). When I turn the brightness higher it gets a bit better, still not fully. The touch functions absolutely normal.
So I opened it and checked the motherboard, it looks weird and has a few small "bumps" arround the chips . I tried removing them but it didn't help ( it might be just some sillicon, I don't know ). So I was thinking would replacing the motherboard help? I found one that is from exactly the same model and has the same memory size, could that help me with the display?
Thanks in advance!

Sounds like your motherboard may not the problem here. I would suspect the lcd. You would need to replace the lcd, digitizer and glass combo.

Repeated burn-in issues.

Hello, recently i sent my phone to warranty because of serious screen burn in issues, they replaced my sceen, which had more light bleeding issues, but i wouldnt mind that, as the burn-ins were gone, but to my surprise, yesterday after about 3hrs of constant on screen texting in whatsapp, the burn-in started appearing on the new screen, i am seriously pissed off, i really like this phone overall with the features it offers and so on, but the quality control... Wtf LG.. I now have bought a phone which i should just send for warranty repairs after a period of time?
Just wanted to share my experience with you, i still have a gpad 8.3 thats is still rolling on the latest 7.1.1 and has no quality issues and a robust metal build whatsoever, but this is just annoying...
Im sorry to hear about your issues with g5. Its a great device, whats wrong with your screen? Light bleeding whad do this mean?

Dont you think i am aware of this? How does it help me? I have wrote ot in threads before and i write it again, this one was about the same thing happening even after warranty repair, and the cause is a faulty panel, i am sharing my warranty experience, i dont really understand why would you post these links? How is this helpful?
i think it would be interesting for all of us to know the period when it started to happen for the first time and then when exactly after the replacement?
I for myself got the screen replaced about 2 month ago having the screen burn issue as well. Phone IME starts with 604. Since the replacement no issue for me so far..but i am not so sure if it the problem is solved with that and the screen burn in starts again after a while again......

Its indeed interesting as it really seems to not appear at the beginning, and once it shows up it starts to get more noticable over time, for example as i said, it occured after heavy using whats app for about 3hrs most of the time with auto brightness sometimes hitting the highest levels, right now i can notice the burn in, but its not at levels where it would become disturbing, ill see how it goes, if it progresses and so on..

If you had read all of my linked threads, you should know...
...many people has this problem with different LG devices...
... it was recognized at LG G5 phones produced between march and jun. 2016 (see serial number starting with 604 up to 606)...
... there seems to be a new display without ghosting but with a little more power consumption recognized since serial number 609...
... it makes no difference witch country code your device was! all displays could be affected!
...that some users have installed "sFilter BlueLight" app to prevent this issue!
...as some users reports,it is not granted, that this issue never returns on changed displays because it seems to be a general fault...
Maybe that all this informations does not help to solve YOUR problem, but this is a forum for questions and answers ant i thought, that this informations could be helpful to know. But as it looks like,it seems that this will be for other users only!

Sorry, but to me the reply seemed non-friendly, as it would be addressed to a rookie user, who hasnt done his research, maybe im wrong about your post...
But overall, yes i have seen all those threads, and unfortunatley, as i have mentioned in some other LCD display threads, the app could basically be a temp fix for the issue, when its not at a disturbing level, as its a cause of a faulty panel.
At this point where my panel has been already replaced, i cant really keep track of its model.

Okay so lets go through this together.
A burn-in only happens with amoleds as this is permanent. We have LCD panels so we have image retention which is non-permanent.
A LCD is a liquid crystal display. Means you have a certain state of the crystals. When you apply a voltage the crystals rearrange themselves and block light. This is why we need a background illumination. Anyway once you use it for a longer period with a semi-static or a static picture (like whatsapp typing bar, google maps info boxes, keyboards etc) the crystals start to shift in their relaxed form towards another state. Blue light is due to its short wavelength energy consuming -> high voltage applied -> faster image retention.
That's why blue light filters do work to some extent. (With cf lumen and root you can adjust to use less blue instead of having an overlay draining additional energy)
This liquid crystal thingie is dependent on a lot of different parameters, that's why some get it faster and some slower. My 1,5k$ thinkpad has the same issue with the navigation bar being a persisting image after 10h+ of browsing.
TLR
So this is actually not a warranty issue. LG also returned phones unrepaired as this is the negative side of a lcd and considered standard behaviour. Go for an AMOLED the next time as they can't suffer from this, but once you have image burn-in you will never get rid of it. So doesn't really make a difference.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_persistence (helpful for that burn in issue which a lot of people seem to get wrong)

Thanks for the interesting article on LCD artifacts, however, i wanted to say some things:
As my for my first panel, that got replaced, image retention was pretty hard, as when the phone got warmer, it became really disturbing and barely usable as the keyboard and status bar started to ghost on grey background apps such as xda, the only way was to let it cool down and wait till everything disappears, as soon as i started using my phone a bit longer, the problem resurfaced very quick. So it clearly wasnt a normal reaction. Just to add, no CF.lumen like apps were able to help back then.
My current replaced panel is showing only minor signs of this, it becomes more apparent on longer usage times with the same elements and the ghosting is barely visible with not so intense usage, so i hope that this wont eventually get stronger as before. As it would seem to be a natural usage reaction, i still consider this an issue however, cause none of my previous LCD phone had anything like it, not even my LG Gpad 8.3. So im gonna try to apply warranty again if needed, as repair services seem to be pretty helpful in my country at least, as long as they have spare panels in stock.
And about amoled, i think ill pass that for a while, i have seen enough samsung demo units in stores have serious homescreen burn-ins.
With LG G5 the quality really seems to be an issue, yes there maybe lucky people with good units and so, but overall it is pretty disappointing, as feature and hardware wise i really love this device.
lol
I see the so called expert stopped responding like a retard. I had the same problem I just lgup and flashed stock all over again about 4 times and it started to show improvements. As of now I got rid of the burnt images on my lcd

Dead Pixels on the screen

So after month of owning this phone (SD version), yesterday I noticed that there was green pixel on dark backround. After a while of looking at black picture with max brightness, I noticed several small red-blue-green dots all over the screen, which weren't visible on other backrounds. I have already sent it to repair centre (free screen replacement). I just wanted to ask, is it frequent problem with RN3 or I was just unlucky? Is there any side effects of replacing the screen?
I'm using this device for about 6 months now and i haven't seen even one dead pixel in my phone till now, but I haven't noticed even one dead pixel on the screen till now...
So, I guess you were unlucky and your device had this problem...

I have rn3 sd version.
and I noticed 3-4 dead pixels on the screen
it cannot be seen on regular usage. hardly can be noticed when lcd test (dark screen full brightness)
I think many rn3 phones have same problem. many users just have not noticed yet.
it's common and expected, for the price you won't get the best panel, i also have 2 stuck pixels, one green and one red
Yeah I got one too and maybe 2-3 more...but not visible in normal usage.
Happened after like 5-6 months.
hmm, it seems that many are having stuck pixels, mine just had too many and it's free screen replacement anyway, so Thanks for replies guys.

I couldn't spot any dead pixel on my phone....
I guess I'm the lucky one then:fingers-crossed:
Some of my friends have the same device and they also don't have any dead pixels...
Well, see if your replacement panel also have the same issue...
Edit: I don't think that's a kernel bug as many users including me are on Radon and none of them reported this issue...
I have a unusual red fingerprint that barely visible on the bottom part of my screen.
You can only see it on still black screens and you will have to look carefully to see it.
It is a comment problem to LCD screen my all phones have dead pixel except Redmi note 3

Well, see if your replacement panel also have the same issue...
Edit: I don't think that's a kernel bug as many users including me are on Radon and none of them reported this issue...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure thats not kernel related (I haven't flashed any custom kernels anyway). I hope replacement screen will be good.
I had a orizontal green line at bottom only on miui.
On aosp doesnt exist.
My phone has several blue and green patch, when I purchased never noticed it till 1 month. After that I got screen replacement when I visited service center, Now my phone creeks.. If grabbed hard its back panel creeks.
I don't blame, Its a cheap company and cheap phone. But performance is good.

Creaking is actually common on RN3. Althought mine didn't (well, I was using a silicon case) and I don't think screen replacement did that, unless service center did a bad job at it.

Actually back panel is rubber glued. (The speaker and upper panel) I think when they open up phone, for screen, they removed rubber glue, so now it creeks against plastic..
