Do sound magisk mods work? - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

So yeah is it worth rooting and trying out some sound magisk modules when I'm already using PowerAMP with its 24bit 192khz output?
Would love to know please and thank you for your time

Yes! I have viperfx and viper hifi running at the same time and its great! (requires Audio Modification Library). I would also suggest to remove default audiofx app so that it doesn't conflict with these 2, with an system app uninstaller and then reboot and youre good to go!

Yes they do, I currently use Viper4Android but i've tried Dolby Atmos and Ainur Sauron, all worked.
They are definitely worth it if you're an audiophile or just listen to a lot of music in general, great improvements can be made with these mods. There are no non-root solutions that come even close to what these mods can do, especially compared to viper or ainur sauron.

I added ainur sauron with viper now that you mention, experience is now amazing!!!

I see. That's not Dolby Atmos. It's Dolby Digital Plus, and yes, there is a difference. That's why I was confused when you wrote Dolby Atmos, which is not ported to PIE, yet.

how did you get it to work
i have it all but it still doesn't work
specifically "processing:no"

I still haven't installed any mods yet because I'm not convinced it would actually make a difference. I am happy with PowerAMP and it outputting to 24bit 192khz so I ask would Viper4Android sound better then what I'm already using? My PocoPhone F1 is paired with a pair of 1More Triple Driver in ear headphones

Anyone?

It's very worth it, these mods DO work, and they work well, a lot of customizations and optimizations, give viper a try and see it for yourself, it's the single biggest enhancement you can make to mobile audio. Especially since SD 845 has a good DAC that can output pretty good audio.
Nothing non-root even compares to what viper and airun sauron do, just give it a go, 10min to setup.

Have you used V4A and PowerAMP (not together) to compare the audio output? As I understand V4A can't output as high quality as what PowerAMP can

V4A can work with Poweramp just by disabling "Direct Volume Control".

I used to be skeptical about these types of mods, but when you've set it up the way you like it, man, the difference is night and day! I personally use both V4A and Ainur Sauron, used in conjunction with audio modification library of course.

I haven't used PowerAMP in a while since all my audio library is on Spotify with high quality streaming, so can't really help you much, you have to try it yourself

It's cool, I understand. I'm trying to stay away from rooting because I'm not planning on keeping the PocoPhone F1 for much longer. I will be moving to the LG G8 Thinq as soon as it comes out anyway. I just hope with the LG G8 Thinq I don't need to touch V4A lol it's also hard to decide because the 1More triple driver in ear headphones are really really good and at the moment I can't decide if I need V4A because they are that good

Understandable mate, i've heard LG phones have the best mobile DAC's out there, so V4A shouldn't be as important as it is here. I praise V4A because even tho my headphones are pretty good, there are certain audio enhancements which I cannot live without. Btw, rooting doesn't leave permanent changes on your phone, unrooting is just as easy and doesn't break any system functionality

Yeah I have used V4A and have rooted phones many times before. It's just the first time I have brought myself a really really good pair of headphones and I can't decide if V4A is needed because I'm outputting my 320 encoded MP3's with PowerAMP to 24bit 192khz and it already sounds great with the pair of 1More's. I just can't imagine it getting better with V4A

I've just tested v4a with using Poweramp bro(by disabling dvc from Poweramp)
I also had the same doubt and bte I've already rooted my phone and installed v4a ... I'm a chronic user of poweramp too!
Nothing can compare to the clarity and bass enhancement driven by Poweramp dac...you can rest assure and satisfied that you don't have to root or thinking if using v4a is best for you

[Q] How to improve sound quality?

Hi guys, I would like to ask, if you are using any kernel/mod which is improving sound quality (headphones) of the S6 Edge.
I believe that it is just software issue, as there is Wolfson DAC and I always liked its sound (SGS1, SGS3). I have a good headphones (UE TrippleFi) and I'm using also great app (Neutron).
Yesterday I compared my S6 Edge to the S3 with the same setup (same headphones, same settings in Neutron, no effects active) and the S3 sounded better. Big time.
Sound on the S6 is to me narrower and kinda without life. Missing the low end and also upper lows, boring mids and too much highs.
I believe that this can be somehow sorted (maybe it already is and I just dont know about it), so I'm asking if any of you know some solution.
Thanks a lot!

Thank you for your reply. I know viper but as far as I know it is only a software tool, EQ if you like. I have pretty versatile EQ in Neutron, so this is not what I was looking for.
What I had in mind was something which can control DAC directly. Something like Boeffla Sound which controlled the DAC itself so I could bypass any Samsung crap or whatever is causing this sound issue.

I completely feel with you.
I also own the s1, s3 and the s6 edge because of the Wolfson DAC. The one included on the Snapdragon Galaxies like s5 is worse...
One the s1 I used voodoo sound on the s3 Boefla kernel with boefla sound....
AFAIK there is no custom kernel with direct DAC control features available, that sux.....
I myself modified the audio_effect.conf (removed the soundalive libraries) and the mixerpaths.xml (more output power) in order to get more power and to remove the soundalive and adapt sound crap from Samsung. Besides of that I have frozen both apps and use viper4android instead of them.
viper4android isn't just an equalizer it is a powerful sound pre-processing tool.
Although there is no custom kernel for direct DAC control and bypass features I guess to have managed it sounding as good as the s3 now.....
Anyway it would be great to get a kernel which can bypass that Samsung stuff already and has got direct DAC and stuff like Boefla sound and or voodoo sound...
BTW: Great to have somebody like you who also appreciates pure Wolfson sound..
The superior Wolfson DAC quality made me to refuse to get an Galaxy S with a Snapdragon.....

You lady (I guess by the username) are reading my mind. I was absolutely the same. After I was pleased by Wolfson on the SGS1 it was one of the main reasons I got S3 and S6 Edge.
About the Viper though, I don´t feel that way. I tested it on my S3 and I wasn´t able to hear any notable difference (Neutron itself is very good signal processor). I don´t use EQ for my headphones as they sound great as they are and I want to hear the track how it should be. I use EQ only on a speaker to fine tune it. Thus I didn´t really used any of its features. As you know we need the DAC Control
And about those changes you made, is it significantly better? Uuu and you might help me. So far, in all ROM threads I asked no one answered my question. I´m looking for ROM in which you can set up the Volume steps. Neither guys in CarHD or CrissCross threads answered this question. And this is crucial function to me as the regular 15 steps makes huge leaps. Thanks!

Hello again,
I am male even though my nick might sound female, lol.
Well, I thought somebody would create a kernel with those DAC control features for the S6 Edge sooner or later, but nothing so far….
I thought when I’ve got the S6 Edge on April what can I do myself?
I can remove Samsungs pre-processing and I can gain more power on volume…that’s all. I cannot modify the kernel myself that way…..
First I noticed that the s6 isn’t loud enough due to that odd EU volume restriction.
I knew setting some values at the mixer_paths.xml might raise volume level.
To introduce more steps I found not necessary, though. Besides of that I do not know how to achieve that TBH.
Reading on the viper4android thread concerning the s6 edge I noticed that the neon drivers of it do not run on enforcing kernel….
So I used a script run by chainfire’s super su on start which allows them libraries run when enforcing…additionally I had a look on the audio_effect.conf where Samsung’s own processing libs are called……
Yes it is significantly better than pure stock defaults…sound alive and adapt sound removed, volume increased, viper4android neon drivers running and much trial and error to get proper settings….
And yes I neither used viper4android on the Galaxy S nor on the s3. It wasn’t necessary at all.
But on the S6 with current possibilities I decided to go for it.
It is the best I could get myself….. I am using Samsung’s stock player with custom viper4android profile…..as said I guess I have managed it to have it as good as the s3 has been….
I am still running android 5.0.2 since I am pingpong rooted and to not want to trip KNOX (not for warranty reasons but for personal idealistic reasons, lol)
I modified anything myself by exchanging the files.
Maybe one should email the dev of Boeffla asking if he ever will develop for the s6 edge….in the meantime I am afraid that this is the only solution, to remove the Samsung’s own processing libs/apps which concern headphone output and to use viper4android and a volume mod instead of…
Here is my post where I published the way I have running it till today: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61526054&postcount=253
If you compare the files with the originals you should find out how to modify the current ones as well…
I don’t know what current custom roms can do.
But I’d suggest to try one which comes with viper4android and a volume mod included. Maybe you come close to the s3 as well...

Haha sorry for calling you a lady then I was surprised that a girl would have such interest in this geeky stuff, but one never know!
I will defo read trough your list of changes and try em out probably. Altough I never had a problem with volume as my headphones are in ear and they are pretty loud. I´m never listening louder than about 50%.
One last thing if I could ask you. Would you be so nice and try out the Neutron music player? It is super powerful player with plenty of customization. I find its sound much better than PowerAmp or other players. If you have a good headphones you should notice the difference immediately. If so, Neutron has free trial app and I can post you list of possible best settings. To my knowledge, Neutron do bypass all software processing and listen directly do DAC. I just want to hear from you if you find using Neutron made your listening experience better or not. Feel free to just send me to the hell
Sit rep: I sent a text to Mr. Boeffla and unfortunately I have to tell you bad news.
In his statement he said, that he is not developing for Samsung anymore as well he is not buying any of their products, so there is no chance he is going to develop anything for our S6/Edge :/ Well, at least we know!
Thank you for the update. It’s a shame that Andy won’t develop a kernel for the s6 edge, anyway I can comprehend his reasons to be disappointed/frustrated about Samsung.
I’ll give Neutron a try, thanks for the hint!
I need to find time for excessive testing, though. But I’ll definitively do it. If it’s better I’ll buy it.
The modifications at sound_effects.conf are necessary to get rid of Samsung’s pre-processing from their stock player. 3rd party player can run DAC directly…..
I tried many different players and came to the conclusion Samsung’s own is one of the best choice.
Poweramp is one of the worst IMHO.
A friend is using playerpro and is very satisfied.
I have got 2 completely different headphones. One is for classical music and the other for rock/electro.
Concerning output volume it depends on impedance of the headphone. I do not like in ears, though. Over the ear or on ear with higher impedance required a volume boost by modifying that xml.

Oh in that point I totaly see why you needed to boost volume. I prefer in ear as they isolate noise and therefore I can keep volume down.
Definately give a try to Neutron, I already bought their app as it is the one I use most and Im super satisfied. Years ago I was at poweramp but then I tried Neutron and never ever went back. The clarity of the highs and detail of lows in completely somewhere else. If you'd like I can send here some useful tips how to set up the Neutron. But if you are not audio noob, what I guess youre not you will find your head around. They have also very good faq at their website to answer most questions. Many users are complaining about the UI, but I think that once you learn how to use it you wont go back. My top tip about UI, would be to dissable swipe to skip track in UI settings so you can use swipe to change the screens. Please let me know how you like Neutron
And for future, I guess we just have to pray for some dev to unlock DAC and amp capabilities for us. Maybe some port of the boeffla sound concerning its Wolfson?!
Hi, just dropping a note that I did not forget to test Neutron....
Recently I am busy with other stuff though...not sure when I get a spare weekend....
I probably update to 6.0.1 first......

Hi again,
I successfully updated to 6.0.1. I 've rooted it and tripped KNOX and installed Viper4Android. (Wrote a how to here @xda).
And I had time to install the evaluation version of Neutron.....4 days left.
As a 'first' impression I can say (after 3 hours of testing) that it is a decent player. It sounds better than Samsung stock player and has more features.....the UI isn't that bad.
ANYWAY: Without viper you don't get by far the best listening experience....
Pure Neutron output has still a narrow 'confined' sound. It is better than Samsung pure stock sound though....
In combination with Viper it seems Neutron is better than stock, but need to test that next 4 days....
Maybe you can post some Neutron settings you are using?
P.S.: You need to test viper4Android, it is amazing...it definitely improves your sound experience, Neutron alone cannot perfom that..
I'll come back for a final opinion...

Oh so nice of you man.
Glad to hear that you like Neutron, it is really a feature packed player (10 band parametric eq with a choice of a filter, just wau).
Thanks to you I will test the viper on the s6. Only reason why I didnt do that was my previous negative experience on the s3.
Settings Im using and which are relevant to sound are:
Resampling - Audiophile
Replay gain off
Gain protection off
64 bit processing on (it influence only the eq)
audio hardware - lattecies to minimum, dither on, hardware gain on, audio focus on, generic driver on, 32 bit output on, frequency 48k.
Hope it helps

Thanks. I have basically the same settings. Although I noticed when using preamp and gain protection one does not need to modify the mixer_paths to gain more volume. (headphones with a higher impedance)
Neutron player is by far loud enough out of the box.....
Considering the player alone, I have to say Neutron is the best one I have tried so far. The EQ is fantastic and highly customisable.
But together with viper the difference to stock player is not big anymore...better said it is very hard since you need to adjust viper to Neutron as well.....
At some tracks I'd say the overall result is better on Neutron plus viper....but would it justify to spend more than 6 bucks?
It depends on kind of music and quality, even though I do not have them worse than 320 MP3s...
Still testing...I needed a break since testing too much makes one feel like I know nothing anymore...which settings are better.
When testing viper goto UI setting and switch to 'expert'.
Do not use the EQ at first...
Try playbackagc, viperddc, differential surround, reverberation, dynamic system, viper bass and viper clarity...
Try to find a combination of some of them enabled and adjusted...leave the other viper settings alone at first...
I'll test more..cu again
OK, my Neutron player has been expired.
For users without root it is probably the best player....
For users with root viper4android is a must have. IMHO.
It is amazing and almost unbelievable what the programmer of viper4android has achieved....I seems nobody of the pros (Samsung/Sony/HTC) can reach that with their DSP soft...
Also the current players available cannot...
The S3 with boeffla sound engine is a combination that sounds very good without viper, but it seems that is an exception.
If you want I can try to make a viper4android 'default' which sounds 'relatively' good (but better than without) on a greater variety of headphones and can upload it....so you could start from there...
Just drop an reply...either way enjoy your rig
BTW: I have asked 2 kernel devs if they can port boeffla sound engine to the s6 kernel...no answer yet....

Sorry for my response time, I've been busy.
Moving to a new place and work mostly.
But I also bought a new cable for my headphones so I'm still testing/enjoying
Hope you're good

I Highly Recommend Ainur Sauron Audio Mod.

I have previously used his "Nero" mod for my axon and with the new release of his mod "Sauron" it sounds even better. I highly recommend you axon 7 owners to check out his mods and try them for yourself.

Hi,
You asked there that "Will the Sauron mod be able to fully utilize the AKM dac/amp of the Axon 7?"
Have you got confirmation, because I didn't find answer there.
If yes, could you please tell us in few sentenses what is the benefits of this mod from audiophile point of view. Just because any Nougat ROM sounds greatly. Thanks.

Hi! I haven't got any answer yet but if I would describe the sound I would probably say that the bass is tighter and less "all over the place". The vocals are more detailed as in it's easier to hear things such as the singer slightly swallowing some air. The highs I'm not to sure about but I will say that the detail is really good without any fatigue. I just started using the mod yesterday so I'm not completely sure about the difference but the noticable thing are what I wrote above and that it generally sounds "better".
I compare this mod with my HD 598 and on Lineage OS. With and without the mod.
If you look at the third post, looks like there's a mod that includes DAC support. It's not available yet but it was edited two days ago saying "Soon"

Thanks for your reply. Actually I thought different things, mainly technical related feature why mod would make sound quality more clear, than the factory. Is there any DAC related parameter or else what can be set or change? Or anything else what you think can be useful to understand what is the benefit of this mod.

This mod isn't made for Axon 7.
It aims to provide adjustments for Qualcomm, Exynos and Mediatek devices with default/integrated DAC.
There's zero mods for Axon 7 audio yet...

How do you know? It does something to sound at least because it doesn't sound the same without the mod. And also AudioFX doesn't effect the sound with the mod enabled.
Yes, it seems to change it. Still audio is the big disappointment for me on this phone. With my best iems I sometimes I prefer the sound of my tab s2...

Because our device needs specific changes.
That's why took so long for a proper sound under LOS and AOSP ROMs.

Yes but there could be changes that don't affect the hardware side of things but the software. For example it could do something with the outputted data from let's say Spotify.

I would really like some input on what the mod actually does as well.
One observation on what it does, apart from the subjective experience of how it sounds:
I was trying out new stock version B02 for G.
With sauron installed, and playing through USB Audio Player Pro with bit perfect checked (not sure if this makes a difference when only playing through phone...) there is no difference between ordinary sound and hi-fi sound in settings.
If I uninstall sauron there is a difference again.
With sauron it sounds like an improved version of the non hi-fi setting, which is good I think, since as the hi-fi setting mostly seem to make the sound a bit v shaped, with increased and bloated bass.
// And... When playing through tidal app, with S installed, there IS a difference between hi-fi setting and non hi-fi, and interestingly the difference is much larger than it is without sauron, like two different types of sound, and the non hi-fi sound closer to what you get with UAPP, but UAPP improves it a bit.

The point is: the files needed to make a difference in this modification are left untouched by these "tweaks".
The .so for AK, for example...
What it does we can do by just disable SoundFX under settings/apps.
You should try

Thx

I found out that ONLY stock roms uses the best DAC.

Hi, all audio enthusiasts!
So recently I purchased a pair of Sennheiser IE80. These IEMs are known to be VERY sensitive and thus you need a really good DAC unless you want background noise in your music.
When I first plugged these IEMs into my phone I was hugely disappointed, the sound was pretty good I guess but there was this constant annoying background noise whenever audio was playing. This was noticeable even when listening to high tempo EDM music with a very low dynamic range, and when I tried some acoustic music with a higher dynamic range the background hiss completely ruined the music experience for me.
Disappointed as I was I decided to ditch LOS and get back to stock and try the audio there since I've always poor battery life on ALL nougat Roms anyway I decided to try the latest Stock Marshmallow build (B11).
The standard HiFi option sounded very poor, I think even worse than LOS but I'm not completely sure as A/B testing is practically impossible. When I turned on the Super Hifi option, however, ALL background hiss had vanished and the sound just got to another level!!! This could only mean two things; either LOS based Roms have some very funky audio processing or (whats most likely) Only stock builds use the best DAC which is presumably the AKM 4491. I haven't tried Nougat but I suspect that the audio is more or less the same ass on Marshmallow.
TL-DR: Only stock build uses the best DAC (AKM 4491).
Where to turn on the Super Hifi option?
It is using the AK dac without genuine drivers. It is not going to sound great the way it is being forced to work. If drivers could be found then maybe it would be like stock.

Yeah this could be accurate. Anyway LOS has hiss, Stock with Super setting doesn't.
Has anyone tried this fix for LOS rom? Or the latest nightly if the patch is merged?

That was merged mid to late April. It is on all of the Los/asop roms now.
I dont know many why many people using wrong DAC number it should be AKM4490 or 4961

Is Viper4Android/ARISE still needed with the V30?

Hey guys,
Just a quick question to all asking whether or not you think Viper would still be needed with the V30?
I've used Viper on my Note 3, Note 4, and Nexus 6P - it being an absolute requirement on the Nexus with the terrible bland audio it outputs .
Having never used a device oriented towards sound, I have no idea what to expect - But my experiences so far are with comparing the devices I've had so far both with and without Viper, and the difference has always been night and day - to the point where I rooted and installed it on the 6P for the third time when I bought it despite wanting Android Pay.
I'd rather not have to root and install Viper on the V30 if it's not necessary - the only reason my 6P is rooted is for that, there's not really much use for me bring rooted root other than for Viper seeing as though Xposed isn't out for it.
It depends on what your looking for, in my experience the v30 has excellent high's and mids, but lacks in the bass/sub bass areas compared to other phones ive had in the past. Ive never used viper, but i was researching how to get more bass out of the phone and i remember viper coming up. So if your going for clarity, it will meet your needs, but if your listening to bass heavy songs then you may find it a bit underwhelming.

That's pretty interesting - thanks . Hmm damn, that's exactly what I was looking for, the bass - how does it sound when you ramp up the bass/sub bass on the equalizer? Is it still weak?
I have v20 which also has a good DAC and I absolutely use viper on it. I'm holding off on buying a v30 until it gets root for that reason.
Moving from V20 to V30, the bass has improved in my opinion, but I still needed to get Viper/Divine just so I can customise it freely, and it's great! Don't worry about Android Pay. Instead of SuperSU, get Magisk installed, it's systemless and lets you use it Android Pay with root access. Also deroth, from what I just said, root is out for the V30! Since official TWRP isn't out yet, use fastboot to boot into the alpha version of TWRP posted on the forums and through that, you can flash SuperSU/Magisk/Viper. I've had no problems so far.

Thanks guys :good: - yeah I was going to say that I thought root was already available for the V30. But that's great! Good to know the magisk method lets you use Android Pay because I thought that method was patched by Google, guess I heard wrong.
So no issues with the alpha version of TWRP then? -- Thanks again, having both Viper and Android Pay solves all the issues for me!

No issues for me. I've only booted into it since I don't want the alpha version to be flashed, although I should mention it asks for a decryption key when booting into this TWRP. You skip that but you won't be able to access your internal storage, so you'll need a microSD with the files you want to flash, that's how it worked for me.
Ahh alright cool, thanks for the heads up! I got my V30 last week, loving it so far - I see what you mean with the bass, if I crank it up with the EQ in either the stock music app or BlackPlayer, it seems to do the trick enough that I don't mind not having Viper for now :good:.
Comparing the audio from my Nexus with Viper to the V30, I'd say the bass is thicker and fuller with viper (surprising Viper has that much effect given the awful audio by default on the Nexus), but the clarity and separation nowhere near touches the V30's - so in line with what you guys were saying.

Fair enough, Viper did completely transform the audio on my Nexus to the point where it was an absolute necessity - I'll probably hold off on root for now since I'm happy with the audio as is, Viper absolutely destroyed battery for me on my Nexus as well, but was totally worth it .
Couldn't get ViPER4Android_FX_v2505_A7.x_Nougat_IO_test_fix.apk working. Installed busybox then v4a. Everything ok but no processing. Couldn't find a zip with that version that would install with twrp. Flashed an older version 2.3.4.0 from https://android.gadgethacks.com/how...your-lg-v20-for-better-sound-quality-0176443/ that works. Still interested in the latest version.
viper4android with DAC
Hi, Can someone tell me how to use my DAC in conjunction with viper4android? because if viper4android is installed then the dac does not work. I already had the ainur souron mod on it, but it still has too many other things that I do not want to sell. I only want to use viper4android with the dac on my own
Viper alternative
For those of you like me who would like viper but are unable to root, I recomend equalizer fx from the play store.
It works with spotify and google play music, might work with others but those are my primary music apps. It works over bluetooth and makes a noticeable improvement on soud/music.

I totally agree. But I have a H932PR that I cannot root (and no updates since december) and eq fx is at least a working solution.
V4A is amazing. It makes my ultracheap $25 bluetooth earbuds sound decent. And if root is ever achieved for my V30 variant it will be the first mod I will install. Quad Dacs are ok but the miriad of options on Viper plus the ability to work over bluetooth is incredible. I have a Galaxy S8 Plus (AT&T) that also has no root and I am seriously considering selling both for a current phone that can be rooted, Pixel 2 XL maybe, just for Viper.
can someone tell me if I can adjust the dac synonymous with viper? the default settings of the dac make viper the whole sound. that's why I would like to regulate the dac over viper. I have already written to the developer of viper. but I do not get an answer from anyone ....
can someone tell me which versions or from where you have Viper4android installed? I have a problem with my G7 that does not sound good with the Viper modules from Magisk. or incorrect.
at viper4arise the drivers do not work. So there is no sound
is there anyone who can port Viper4android for the G7? I found out that some of the original sound files have to be changed or replaced. if it should sound neat and clean.

Audio experts here who have root say Viper is trash for our V30 because it down samples the audio and may even bypass the excellent quad DAC, if I understand their explanation.
@soundgirl101?
okay that's right. But maybe there is something, where you can increase the clarity of the songs? because I like to use the clarity. that sounds even better
so have my LG updated. can someone recommend settings for more heights in the equalizer?
or another soundmod where i can fix the clarity, but which does not downsampled the quality

If you have viper4arise you might want to try this.
Go to settings, turn on developer mode, and then disable selinux.

Headphone Jack Sound Quality of Mido

Hi everybody,
Been using Redmi Note 4x for about 10 months now, and I love the phone in every way except the audio quality. Since I don't care much about the speakers, I am referring to the audio quality from the headphone jack.
I will try my best to articulate the problem so that you can understand my frustration. I would like to know: 1) Anybody else facing this? 2) Any sustainable solution?
Before Redmi Note 4, I have used a Moto G(2nd gen) & Moto X Play, and both had pretty standard audio quality, which is to say: Basic, Clean & Enjoyable. I use a Soundmagic ES18 (which is PRETTY Good, and gives a V-shaped clean sound output, very enjoyable).
Redmi Note 4 is just different in terms of sound, I don't know what or why, but after 5-10 minutes of listening, my entire body starts feeling irritated, almost as if I have been getting very mild electric shocks. Needless to say, as far as music is concerned, I am a very unhappy customer. I love music, and I just have not been able to enjoy. Plus, I don't know if my eardrums have been damaged in any way (i listen at very moderate/low levels).
I am trying to understand, is this something wrong with my particular set? If so, I have some time left in warranty to get it fixed. But if it is the sound signature of Mido in general, then has anybody come up with any solution to this? Mi Forum seems to suggest many other users complaining about the same thing, even though people describe it differently.
As I mentioned, the music listening experience is one of physical irritation. GSM Arena shows how Mido has a clean output, though it is very soft from the headphone jack. Since I use V4A, I boost the playback gain, so that is not the issue, the issue is that something about the sound signature is such that music is not enjoyable. Treble seems unnecessarily sharp, Bass feels unnecessarily synthetic & bloated, Mid-range is too harsh, and therefore, overall, the audio output is really bad, to me.
My girlfriend has the Redmi 3s, my father has the Redmi 4x (from my recommendation), and I have a MiPad. My girlfriend's and father's phones have a pretty enjoyable sound signature, so does my tablet, even though my tablet has a softer sound output, but none create any irritation. I have tested the sound from all these devices with the same earphone (ES18), and without turning on any EQs. These Xiaomi devices have a little different sound from my Moto devices, but still very enjoyable. Mido, however, is really bothering me.
Please feel free to engage with me. I am only looking to confirm what is the issue, and find out potential solutions. Please help me to enjoy music on this phone...
Thanks & Regards
Hi man! I've experienced the same issues...i didn't find a way to obtain a good quality sound. The best solution for me is to:
-try to have flac songs with high quality
-Use dolby Atmos (discovered in mi-globe rom v 9.5)
-modify the mixer.paths.mtp.xml file to increase maximum volume (i had a very low sound, with my headphones on and max volume set i can heard people talk around me)
But these are just "tricks"...i think that the hardware is the real problem!
