Is there a way to improve AOSP camera quality? - Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite Questions & Answers

AOSP roms have really really bad camera. Its worse in low light places.
Is there anyway to improve it? Any camera apk or a good rom that isn't MIUI based? 3;

Probably not, at least not until Xiaomi releases the kernel source.

Any Stock Based ROMS with CM Themes?

Being a photographer, I don't think I am going to be able to use an AOSP ROM cause the Camera options just fail in comparison to the stock camera.
But it would be awesome to have the themeing options of the CM based roms. Any such luck?

I don't think that's possible
Thanks,
Kind of what I assumed. I have been out of the flashing game for awhile but the Verizon update to Lollipop was just horrendous I had to do something. Flashed Euphoria and aside from some issues love being back on an AOSP ROM, just really unfortunate that the Camera situation is so dismal. I have even flashed the Lenovo Cam with the Bravia engine etc, just not stable or fast enough

RR ROM vs Aosp extended

Hi can anyone point me a difference between those two roms? I guess both are using official kernel from xiaomi now? Is one based on aosp and another one on lineage OS? Or they are the same but loaded with different features? Which might be better for girl daily use and good similar to stock ROM battery experience?
Thanks!

There are differences in terms of features.
Yep, both Roms based off kernel sources released by Xiaomi.
Yep, AOSP extended is AOSP base & RR is LineageOS base.
You'll notice, both were almost same & RR has few more features than AEX.
Battery is as same as Miui, 8hrs SOT guaranteed, doesn't matter whatever rom you're on.
Both Roms are official ones, choose which one to go.
So probably aosp extended would be better.
Now we have around 11h sot that is even better than my oneplus 3t. Just amazing.

Try something CAF based like Citrus but that won't improve the camera much.
Unfortunately xiaomi.eu ROM and a custom launcher like Nova are the only way to go if you want a decent camera and good battery life.
And one last thing: Try LineageOS 13 based on Marshmallow by Gizmo. It is supposed to take better pictures than Nougat based ROMs

The camera in custom ROMs based on Nougat is worse than in stock ROM, yes.
In Marshmallow based ROMs, the camera isn't that much worse but the images are still different than with stock. Someone posted photos here on the forum comparing stock and LineageOS 13 camera
Try N os now the camera is some what optimized now 21 St build

There's no point in comparing camera quality between different ROMs.
Historically the area where custom ROMs suffer the most in comparison to stock ROMs is image quality.
More or less the quality will be the same as the software remains the same, Snap camera, and all the ROMs use mostly the same sources for the same hardware.
The difference will be made by software image processing, which only MIUI can provide.
So if you want the best possible image quality from your sub 200$ phone, you have to use MIUI or be satisfied with the camera on your custom ROM.

u can flash oos cam in any rom. everything works except beauty mode
A lot of the new ones do. I'm using Purenexus right now with it and it works well, they even have the correct/working zip of the OOS 3 camera. The only thing that doesn't work is beauty mode, the rest is functional.

Great, does the battery drain fast? Or are you satisfied with it?

The battery life has been better than any other rom while everything is actually running smooth. The phone easily gets through 15 hours with 3 to 4 hours of screen on time. Very little standby battery drain. (and I don't use Greenify or Powernap or anything like that anymore). It's also the only rom I've used that literally everything works which is a first. There's usually something wrong that the developer doesn't want to recognize..
Bro there is difference between Camera App and hal. An app can be esily installed but a hal needs to implemented in the deepest core of a android system. I also want a list of nougat roms based off oos camera hal, if someone can provide please...
OmniROM gives you the choice.

Battery friendly is relative. It depends on your use, and you can tweak the kernel settings or use a kernel custom to correct things.

Best Nougat Rom for Leeco Le Max 2?

For a long time i use Resurrection Remix 7.1.3 ROM from andr68rus and i was wondering if there is a better ROM that i can use! The most important to me is a ROM that will give my phone a better battery life but something else that i want is the option to close my phone buttons and use NavBar (that's why I use RR).
So guys if you know which is the best ROM please tell me!

I'm working with LineageOS 14.1 since last week (2017/08/18) and its works really fine. This is based on Android 7.1.1 so you can download the new adapted Pixel Camera HDR+ in order to improve your Pics.
I hope you find it really helpful.

Yeah thanks but what about battery life and NavBar?
slim rom... just perfect.
Heyyo, eh that's a tough one tbh. RR is the most feature packed but yeah has battery drain issues...
So I'd say Dark Unicorns for battery life and customization or OmniROM.
Pure Nexus Project is also pretty darn good but it has been a while since I tested it so tbh I'm unsure how battery life is on it.
Andr68rus is supposed to have a new build of Paranoid Android really soon so tbh I'd wait to see what people say about that. Odds are since it's not LOS based like RR Nougat is? It will have better battery life.
Slim is pretty good ...

Not, the infrared dont work.
Best regards
AtomicOS.. full performance with a few touch of customization.. very smooth.. 153K on AnTuTu.. but here the battery is drained at 3.5h of SoT.. AOSP based ROM is the best performance for me..
