What if you want to use a font that flipfonts hasn't offered?
EDIT: NM got it, an app for Root users called Type Fresh can backup/ restore system fonts, and can install new fonts with proper permissions. Any TTF font file works, but picking ones that are designed for on screen viewing is best.

EDIT: i tried the app. i got to the point where i restart the phone but the new fonts do not apply. have you or anyone got this to work right on the vibrant yet? (the chrome coyote)
I tried it as well and also had no success. Font would not apply.
At least you Vibrant users got some "starter fonts" out of the box.
Captivates don't come with any besides the default.
I highly recommend the Helvetica Neue from the Market, btw, especially if you were fond of the Zune interface.

Yes. I ran into this problem as well. You need to go to Settings and return your fonts to "Default" and reboot before you will see the changes.
The app works by replacing the default fonts, if the phone is already using a flipfont font then it wont work

Just tried it. Did not work. Not sure if I did anything wrong, but I followed directions properly. Phone would not boot past initial Samsung Vibrant screen. Luckily I was able to ADB the .backup out and replace the original.
I just recently put this in the sticky in the general section. I listed the directory where to put the font, reboot, go to the settings and select the font, phone should reboot with the new font added.
I would LOVE IF you could test the directory for me. I bought helvatica through the system, do I think it's correct.

You need to adjust the permissions of the renamed font files to match the stock fonts or else you'll boot loop

Ok...I followed the directions and did as they said. So, how does one go about doing this?
I use Root Explorer, as its one of the easiest ways to move system files around your phone.
To save you time looking in /system/fonts the permissions are:
User: Read-Yes, Write-Yes, Execute-No
Group: Read-Yes, Write-Yes, Execute-Yes
Others: Read-Yes, Write-No, Execute-Yes
Using Root explorer, you can navigate to your renamed DroidSans.ttf and DroidSans-Bold.ttf files, long press on them and select "permissions", then make sure the permissions match the stock font's listed above.

For more fonts and also international fonts, I did a tutorial on a Moto Droid couple months back, it should be exactly the same for "ROOTED" Samsung Vibrant:

What I would like to know is how to write the AKP for flipfonts.
I wanted to pull one of the APKs from the Apps directory, but it seems to to work. I also tried making a backup of the APK with titanium backup, but the zip is empty. It seems the files are protected in some way.
I just wanted to take a look at the structure of the apk so I can use it as a template to create custom font APKs to side load.
If anyone can manage to make a backup of one of the flipfont APKs please explain how you did so.

I want to take away the LV TELE 2| Tele2 thing on the bottom and then change the clock and date text, because it looks ugly in my opinion. Is there a way I could change that?
And also the circle above the Tele 2 text, can I change that? If so, how?
And also when i type an SMS, it vibrates when I type one letter, how can I remove that? I have tried to untick vibrate in settings but it doesnt work :S

Read the rules again and everything's fine.
So, for deleting carrier name, just google, there's a tutorial.
Is changing the font enough?
Then just replace the fonts at /system/fonts. (You can find the correct one by the name.)
And the circle. Decompile your framework-res.apk and look for the graphics at the hdpi folder.
If you don't know, how to do this, google. It's easy, if you know how to do.

If this apps works for you, you can use it to set the carrier name to ' '?
You can find some nice fonts here. http://www.dafont.com, http://www.1001freefonts.com/
Or if you want to use fonts, which are already on your computer, they're located at: C:\Windows\Fonts
So, to change them.
The folder /system isn't on you sd. It's on your phone.
You can view this folder, if you download any root explorer app from the market.
Then you can find the /fonts folder and replace some fonts.
For example there's the font 'DroidSans.ttf', rename the font to 'DroidSans.bak' and then copy some downloaded font into this folder. Then change the name from (for example) Arial.ttf to DroidSans.ttf.
Reboot your device, and it's ready.
There's a app, which is easier, but with this method, you know, what you're doing, and you learn something.
But, just in case, the name of the app is 'Font Changer', you can find it in the Play Store.
The circle on the lockscreen..
To change it, you have to copy you framework-res.apk, which is located at /system/framework to your sd and then to your computer. (Or you upload it to dropbox or someting else, just bring it to your computer. xD)
Then rename it to 'framework-res.zip', after this you can open it by winrar or 7zip.
Go to the hdpi folder in res and search the image of the circle.
Then delete it, and put your own image (it should have the same dimensions) into the archive. But important! Don't select 'normal compression' or anything else, just 'save'!
If you have this done, change the file extension again to '.apk' and put it to your sd.
Then, copy it with any file manager, and paste it into /system/framework.
This can brick you device, so create a cwm backup before!
It worked succesfully for me with 'ES File Manager/Explorer', but only with the method, where the dialog 'Replace?' appears. So don't first delete the framework-res.apk
Okay, and for vibration.
Go to settings, keyboard, keyboard settings, and uncheck vibration. That's it.
Now my hands hurt.^^

I have no clue what font I should use but I'll see which one I will download because there are so many
I don't think I will change the circle on the lockscreen because It seemed hard and I'm to "noob" to do that and I don't wanna brick it. But I'll save that information If I wanna do it later.

1. I recently rooted my phone and put on CyanogenMod 9 and now I have Apex Launcher Pro on it. But I can't find my contacts or where I add contacts so I can save my friends phone number. Do I have to download an app for this?
2. When I'm on my lockscreen and wanna unlock it, I drag it and it unlocks. But It vibrates when I drag it, is there a way to delete this vibrating?
3. I've used Swiftkey 3 keyboard but I don't like it so I want a new one. I loved the keyboard I had before I rooted on ICS verision 4.0.3. Is there a way to get that keyboard now in root? If not, do you have suggestions for me which keyboard I should download? I don't want one that they correct the words I write, only a simpel and easy keyboard.

Try Ubuntu font, google for it.
No? Or 'input settings'?
There's no contacts app? Maybe it's just hidden in apex launcher. Go to apex settings, drawer settings. And check the hidden apps. Or look in the apps section in the normal settings, if contacts/people app exist?
Hmm, in miui, there's an option for the vibrating. But as far as I know, in cm not. But you can google for it, maybe there's a mod or control panel, which includes this.
Yes, I hate auto correction too. It's very bad if you write in different languages..
In the settings of swiftkey, you should be able to disable the auto correction. You can access the settings directly via the keyboard. There's a key for this.
But I prefer the stock ics keyboard. (Play store: ics keyboard) It's very simple and you can disable auto correction and vibration too.

For renaming, you don't have to open the file.
Just press long at the file, and there should be a popup, with options like 'rename', 'copy', 'cut', 'open', 'properties' etc.
If there's no option to rename it, use another file manager, like 'es file manager' or 'root explorer'.

Of course, mate.
If you're using es, go to settings, scroll down and enable 'root-explorer' and 'mount file system'.
Then there should be a popup of superuser, just accept it.
After replacing the fonts, remember to set the correct permissions, too.

Worked I think, did everything you wrote before in this thread. But the font didn't change on the lockscreen. Is there another file I should rename or change too in order for it to change font on the clock on the lockscreen?

Rename it to driidsans.ttf.bak but first click on R/O to make it R/W.... you know read only and read and write

DroidSans.ttf was just an example.
So, I'm not sure, but try Clockopia.ttf.
But a while ago, I used a cm-build, where the lockscreen font was named something like. 'androidclock.ttf'
So just look, maybe you can guess it via the name, which font it is. If not, you can copy them to your pc and click on it, then windows let you view the font. Then you just have to look for these special numbers of the lockscreen clock. And the last way is to use font changer.

Multi Window on the Note 2 is kinda cool, but it only works with limited apps, which kinda sucks. There are 2 solutions to this - the first is to wait for developers to add support (perhaps using my guide), the second is to edit one of the framework APKs to enable other apps. The second is the most useful, but perhaps a little complex for most people.
So here's a tool to help.
This tool takes a list of apps and creates you an update zip (for flashing via clockworkmod) with a modified framework APK that enables your chosen apps for multi window support.
Important points to note...
This tool is ONLY tested on the LJ1 release, additional options are added via user requests. I STRONGLY recommend you don't use the resulting zip on a ROM version other than that for which it's intended.
Backup before flashing the update zip. No really! Or at LEAST backup the framework-res.apk.
If you don't want to use clockworkmod you can extract the framework-res.apk and push it via ADB. Make sure to set the permissions to 0644 or your device won't boot.
Be very careful to ensure that your entries in the tool are correctly formed or again you could end up with a non-booting device.
Use this tool at your own risk!
Got that? OK, let me tell you how to compile the list in the tool.
Simply, you need to enter <item> </item> tags with the 'package names' of your chosen apps in the textbox. Package names are best found on the web Play Store by looking at the URL. Here's some examples for you.
Plume on the web Play Store is at play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.levelup.touiteur - therefore the package name is com.levelup.touiteur and you should use the entry <item>com.levelup.touiteur</item>.
TVCatchup on the web Play Store is at play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gzero.tv - therefore the package name is com.gzero.tv and you should use the entry <item>com.gzero.tv</item>.
Simple eh? Just put in the ones you need, hit the button and download your update zip.
To use the tool, head on over to this topic.

if you want faster to find out package name. go to www.play.google.com then press installed apps and you will be able to find faster package name of your all installed apps

There are 2 solutions to this - the first is to wait for developers to add support (perhaps using my guide), the second is to edit one of the framework APKs to enable other apps. Paul did most of the leg work even for what I did. All I did was turn his findings into a mod so that people could have something while Paul worked on a better system (like this one he has made).

I threw together a little app to steamline the process a bit. This is my first android program so this thing contains a whole 3 hours of android wisdom...
It's a frankenstein mix of googled code but it gets the work done. A work in progress. This version asks for some storage/call/debug permissions which I have no idea how to remove or limit. So if that makes you feel uneasy pm me and I can send you the netbeans project in a 7z and you can check the source code and compile it yourself.
What the app does is display a list of installed packages by item name, you can then select the ones you want, hit the export button which will copy your selection to the clipboard, open a browser window to pauls page where you can paste it into the text area and download the generated apk all directly on the phone.
I would not recommend selecting all items in the list, this might have horrible consequences. Just select stuff you recognize.
For me the download popped up cfw but then failed to install the apk (possible due to file location), so I moved the apk to the root dir, rebooted to cfw recovery and then flashed just fine.
In later versions I'll see about reducing permissions, add icons to the list.

Everytime i add an app to the multiscreen view the one that i flashed before disappears. So, if i add dropbox and then imdb i will imdb but dropbox will disappear. Im flashing the zip files using CWM recovery. Can someone tell me how i can solve this? Thanks

Are you adding one app. Flash the generated zip and then add one app, generate a new file and flash it? If so, dont do it that way You must add all apps you want in the same file, generate that and flash it

Hi,
I modified "SamsungCamera2" from my Note 3 and would like to install it now on my Note 3. My phone is not rooted and doing so would currently trip the knox counter (I don´t want that).
If I try to install the apk I get the message "application not installed".
Is it somehow possible to convert the apk so that I can install it as a "normal app"?

no root no party, however i think that its possible to root the phone over knox without count
to install system apk you can do in 3 ways
1.install normally by a file manager as normal apk but in this way you can only install ORIGINAL APK like official update NO MOD
2.copying the apk and maybe the odex in /system/app NEED ROOT
3.using clockworkmod NEED ROOT,or maybe using the stock samsung recovery need a flashable zip of your app

With my current firmware there is no known method to get root without knox=0x1.
If I develop my own app I can install it without problems. So, what exactly makes apps from system/app different?
How does Android know that I did not implement this App by myself?
Is there a way to further modify the app so that it looks like I implemented it by myself and install it then?

Android expects applications installed by opening the APK to be signed.
It's quite easy to sign them with a generic certificate: but when apps are updated both the old (in /system) and the new version must be signed with the same one.
(Extreme problems lead to extreme solutions: if you need Samsung service, flash a bad bootloader so that's permanently bricked and doesn't even get to Odin...)

But how does Android know that I am trying to Update an already existing app? Is it just because of the class names of the MainActivity? Is it possible to refactor the app, so that it looks like a brand new app?

It seems to be the correct way. However, something seems to be odd:
I the log I get the following:
12-29 23:47:03.981: E/AndroidRuntime(27444): java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to resume activity {com.sec.android.app.cameraoc/com.sec.android.app.camera.Camera}: java.lang.SecurityException: Requires SET_ANIMATION_SCALE permission
However, this permission is set in the AndroidManifest.xml file:

every APK has got a signature when you modify an apk or the mali code the signature became invalid so you cant install that apk anymore until you sign again the apk
if the signature is different you cant install system apk when you has already installed an app with the same packace address
else if the signature is the same (only the author of the app has got the original key of signature) you can install it
there is a critical bug in android until 4.2.2 version, the MASTERKEY BUG
google fix it in android 4.3
i got root with this bug using cydia impactor
with this bug/exploit you was able to modify system partition bypassing signature protection and then get root so you was able to have full access to your phone

OK. This was already made clear some posts above. My new question was: Can I change the signature to install it as a "new" app.
I tried it out by myself. I modified the manifest file to change the android package name from "com.sec.android.app.camera" to "com.sec.android.app.cameraoc". The java package is unchanged.
With this modification i could install the app without any problems, but I get a permission exception, when I try to execute the App:

I got the exact same issue when modding the S5's camera apk. The trick is to open your original apk with an archive manager and only replace the classes.dex and resources.arsc. I then copied the apk to /system/app/ and after a reboot I could successfully launch the camera.

I guess it's called "Richnote." I'm wondering if someone could export that APK and upload it somewhere so that I can try and get it running on a Galaxy S4. I found http://koolwap.in/games_app/dld.php...ba/comlgeapprichnote-30200111-v32.htm&ext=apk, but the phone just says "application not installed." I have a notes backup from an old E970 that I'd like to view, but I obviously can't with the GS4 (the format is .rnt, whatever that is), and I don't have any other LG device to view them from.

Unfortunately, for both of those APKs, the phone just says application not installed.
It won't install as a normal app. You need to copy it with a root explorer to system apps, set permissions and reboot.

That probably explains it. The phone currently isn't rooted.
Regarding Perfect Viewer, it's unable to find the "backup.rnt" file that Richnote made during the export, even if I tell something like ES File Explorer to open that file with Perfect Viewer.
So there's no way to install that app without rooting?
So I rooted, copied one of the two APKs that were posted here into /system/app, changed the permissions to match the other APKs that I saw, rebooted, and nothing new showed up. Do these APKs need a matching OPEX file? Both of the Richnote APKs do this.

The one I posted shows up as "notebook" in app drawer and it doesn't have an odex file. Not sure if that would keep it from working on an odexd ROM. It is a modded apk. and I am pretty sure I found in a Samsung forum.
Oh...and googling .rnt it says it is files for CNC machines, but there are some free programs to open them.

Ah... I'm really confused, then. I tried putting some random APKs in /system/app and they ended up showing up after a reboot, so I'm not sure what's happening with the APKs that you guys posted.
I might just go to a T-Mobile store to open up my Richnotes backup and email all of the text to myself.
This is where I got it from downloaded the zip and pulled app from it. Does it look like the same note app you are trying to get?

I'm not sure what it looked like before (I barely used the phone), but I don't think that that's it.
I think I skipped out on your APK (the first two that I mentioned, one was from Alex_XV6700, the second was RichNote_a003.apk from a stock AT&T ROM for the E970). I put it in /system/apps, and the app works, but it's a different app overall, unfortunately. Thanks anyway.
I think the idea of going to a store to get the notes would be the easiest.
